Unlike most, Xavier had managed to underestimate the severity of this event. When others were speaking about the cancelled lottery, when they were trying to make sense of the rumours they heard, even when it became clear that the slaves would be punished, Xavier had followed his usual routine. He was convinced that those days would be uncomfortable but ultimately bearable. It was not more than a few hours in that he realized how wrong he had been. Stripped of his sight and hearing, Xavier had been left with his own mind. It was almost embarrassing how little it took for him to break himself. He was sucked into a darkness which had started long before he came to live on this island. He was reminded of a time where he not only experienced but indulged in human cruelty. He was reminded of the lives which he had taken and a strange certainty that he too should not have been here anymore. Every beating that followed, though not physically challenging, served as fuel to this self-destructive fire.

And he was not ready for more. Even when they were finally returned to their cells, it did not feel like the punishment had stopped. The majority of the slaves seemed to have fallen straight asleep or found comfort in being with one another. Part of him wished he could be there for the others too, but instead he was quiet with himself again. Yet fate had decided that this loneliness should not last. Xavier recognized the woman and was surprised that she chose to speak to him of all people. “There’s not an end to this” His voice was raspy and quiet, but there was no doubt that he believed to speak the truth. Xavier respected her concern, her attempt to give him strength. Maybe on a different day, he would have been able to show his appreciation more strongly. “Not for me, this won’t end”

“Nothing is permanent, love,” she countered gently, daring to take a step into the cell and take a seat next to Xavier.  The professor recalled their first meeting, his seeming recalcitrance towards her simply for her position on the island.  She may have had a title and more privilege than most, but they had more in common than he believed that first meeting.  “Even when it seems like there’s no escape and no end.  I once thought the same, yet here I am.  Free from hell - or at least usually.”  It was a poor attempt at a joke, but it was true enough all the same.  “I’ve been here off and on for over a decade now.  These things don’t last forever.  Neither does your position here.”

He gave a soft chuckle as his back pressed up against the log, keeping still as he felt the bristles running through his hair. "Thanks, Ren. I guess I just never got the hang of brushing around these things." Xavier gestured to his horns as he spoke, only flinching when he felt a tangle getting pulled out.

Still, it was oddly relaxing. A quiet moment, without having to worry about what their next step was. It was enough for him to close his eyes with a soft sigh, letting himself just focus on his hair being brushed. For a little bit, at least.

“That’ll be three hundred dollars because I’ve got all three properties and another three because of the hotels.” Evie reaches across the table and preemptively collects from Xavier’s cash pile. “Thank you for expending Mendez Enterprises, Xavi,” she grins, “I appreciate your support.” It’s a rainy day off and she’d offered to watch Tristan who had a cold so Sofia could handle some things around town. He’d gone for a nap and she’d convinced Xavier to play a game of Monopoly because for some reason she and Roman were banned from playing it at any family gathering which was a little excessive in Evie’s opinion but whatever. “Your turn.” She hands him the dice and glances over her shoulder towards Tristan’s room, listening for any sign of her nephew waking. Though she’s kept the truth of the DNA results to herself, and though she’d always considered him her nephew, there was something more special about knowing that he definitively was. @xaviersilva​

Lnds: Sleepy time!

Authors note: Fluff (not a lot of it) and a bit of domestic stuff.

Sylus:

It had been 30 minutes since you left the bedroom. Sylus was already well on his side of the mattress, reading the news while waiting for you to come back. He thought you were just up and about doing your normal routine of drinking herbal tea and doing skincare, but it was taking you far longer than usual.

He settled the tablet down on the nightstand and walked out of the bedroom. He searched for you in every room he passed by, and when he arrived at the guest bedroom at the end of the hall, there you were, perfectly tucked in under the unused duvet.

You were curled into a ball and too engrossed in the video you were watching; you didn't even notice the black fuzzy threads wrapping around your weird curled-up position. You lifted off from the bed, and when you came to, the view was of Sylus' back as you involuntarily made your way back to his bedroom.

"So you're not going to put me down?" you asked, paying attention to the video again. "Are manners not a thing anymore?"

The brooding man didn't spare you a glance. "I'm not open for discussion. You're supposed to sleep in my bedroom. Our bedroom."

"I just wanted a bed all to myself," you uttered. Here you were, planning what to watch and what to eat for the whole night, and this guy managed to foil it.

"I don't share the same sentiment, sweetie. You have the bed every time I'm overseas on a work trip. It's even infested with your colorful pillows," he opened the door to the bedroom and reeled you in, gesturing to your side of the bed which had vibrant pillows and bed 'pets,' as you like to refer to them.

"You really can't sleep without me, can you, Mr. Big guy? Afraid that someone's under the bed or something?"

"I'm more afraid that you're going to ravage my food pantry when you're not in my line of sight."

"The guest bedroom is nowhere near the pantry and I don't ravage it—I simply take a few snacks," you clarified. "Greg would be sad if the food spoils."

"Either way, you sleep in my bedroom or my couch, nowhere else, sweetie."

"Admit it: You like my company, don't you?" You gave him a cheeky grin.

"Yes, yes," Sylus agreed sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "You make a good meat shield when we get attacked in this bedroom."

"Oh wow. Reduced to a shield." You rolled your eyes in return and slipped under the covers. "That's Onychinus' leader for you."

"Right. Are you done now? I still have an early schedule for tomorrow."

"Alright, alright. I'm heading to bed now. You can sleep."

"Good. Now come here." Sylus opened his arms and you found yourself huddled right into it like it was the perfect mold. You shifted a bit and could feel his muscles relax against your back.

"Why did you feel the need to sleep in the guest room tonight?" Sylus asked under his breath.

"I was planning on reading comics all night. Tara recommended a new romance comic which I like, but knowing you, you'd probably take my phone away."

"Then it looks like I will be the bad guy tonight."

"Maybe. Until you fall asleep." You shrugged.

You hear the handcuffs being pulled out.

Shit.

Xavier:

3:02 AM, it says on the clock. You weren't on the bed. It was cold and it was proof that you never went on it, which was odd considering you told sleepy little Xavier that you were going to stay over. Poor little tired hunter was exhausted after a day's work and couldn't help but doze off while watching you do your little night ritual of moisturizing and doing a facemask.

Xavier sat on the side of the bed, letting out a big yawn. He didn't know where you were, but all he knew was that he didn't like being alone. From his palm, a faint whirlpool of light emanated, enough to guide him through his dark abode. His first thought was maybe you were watching in the living room. You weren't there. He then headed to the small bedroom right beside his, a spare one for guests, but it went unused when you both shared the same bed now.

He tried his best to quietly open the door. There he saw a little bump on the mattress and it made his heart squeeze; you were adorable and looked so small. Xavier tiptoed and folded the blanket away from you. He took a deep breath and lifted you up bridal style, pressing you against his chest.

"hm?…Xavier?" you slurred, vision dark and blurry.

"I'm moving you to our bedroom," he kissed the top of your head and continued his journey to the other room.

"You were sleeping," you paused, looking for the word. The drowsiness didn't seem to go away. "didn't want to…disturb you."

Xavier wanted to say something, but he and you both arrived at the side of the bed. He gently laid you down and placed a pillow between your limbs, which you automatically hugged. Xavier crawled to his side of the bed and yanked the cover over the both of you. Though you both weren't exactly touching, the little hunter's heart eased at your presence.

Gladly, he went back to sleep, hoping to maybe see you in his dreams.

Zayne:

Zayne's house was far too quiet when he arrived. It was only 7 o'clock, and by then you'd usually be in the kitchen, peeking your head out with a ladle in hand. There was no "welcome back" nor a simple "hello," but what did he expect? You were mad at him.

It's a shallow fight, really. Zayne decided to put you on alcohol time-out and took your hidden beers that you were so ready to drink after a grueling day at work. Zayne's judgment was far better than yours because when you get drunk beyond mental capacity, you tend to make a mess of the house, and you turn into a rage-filled, feisty lady. Moreover, you'd been chain-drinking for the whole week, and Zayne was getting concerned because you kept having hangovers.

His hands twisted on the knob to the little library of his house, where he would always find you on nights like these. There you were, curled in the lazy boy sofa and turned away from him. You were awake, but you didn't want to look at your lover.

"I'm home," Zayne declared.

"Dinner's in the fridge. Heat it up," you responded and closed your eyes. Zayne's footsteps grew closer and closer to you, and you felt his palm land on your shoulder.

"Your back will hurt if you sleep in that position."

The sofa might look soft and admittedly it's pretty comfortable to sit on for a long period of time, but with the curled-up position you have, it was bound to hurt when you fall asleep.

"I'm perfectly fine," you replied.

"Don't be stubborn." Zayne decided to pick you up. You wanted to thrash and get out of his grasp, but then you would look childish.

"I don't want to be with you tonight."

Zayne kept his lips in a thin line. He's more than aware that you're saying that because you're mad, but still—It hurts to hear it from you.

Gently, Zayne settled you in the middle of the bed. "I'll sleep in the living room. Stay here," he whispered and tucked the blanket over your shoulders. It was dark in the bedroom, so you couldn't exactly see him. You rolled over to face away from your lover and patiently waited for him to leave.

1:34 AM. You couldn't sleep. A can of beer would do you some good, but your tongue wasn't craving the bitterness of it. Instead, your mind looped over to a few hours ago when you said something that you didn't mean. It was harsh now that you think about it.

Now Zayne is keeping his distance from you. The owner of the house is sleeping on the couch.

With two pillows and a blanket in hand, you made your way down the flight of mahogany stairs. The living room was in full view, and Zayne was fast asleep on the couch. You nudged the two ottomans to the space between the coffee table and the main sofa. Then you threw the pillows and spread the blanket wide, letting it flutter down while you made yourself fit on the ottoman chairs.

You left a few spaces between you and Zayne, one that was filled by the cold pillow.

2:46 AM. Zayne stirred awake and found a blanket draped over his body. Beside him was his supposedly angry lover, clutching the hem of his shirt. He stared up into the chandelier above and took the pillow that was bordering between them, used it as his own, and pulled you closer, nudging the blanket over both of you even more.

Rafayel:

He's standing by the doorway, tapping his foot while a plushie was tucked under his armpit. He was frowning, and you could even see it through the dark.

"What?" you asked, shining the phone his way.

"So you're going to leave me alone tonight? Is that how you're going to play?" He was mad-mad, but that's why you were confused.

"Hey, drama king—you were complaining earlier in the day about my bad sleeping habits—I'm giving you the bed now so you can be at ease, but now you're mad at me again. Do you want me to sleep on the floor of your bedroom or something?"

"Duh? Of course not. I'm just complaining because it's true, but I never said you should sleep in the guest room."

"Then are you going to be alright with my sleeping habits?"

"No."

"Then sleep alone."

An audible gasp could be seen on the expression of the Lemurian. He looked so offended with the end of the conversation, but you weren't having it, so you plopped back onto the bed and hid under the covers, hoping that he'd go away.

The moment you peeked back out, you were rapidly crushed under heavy weight, making you sink to the bottom of the bed. Rafayel lay spread out on top of you, keeping you in your position and crushing you underneath him.

"Get off me! You're heavy!" You struggled underneath the blanket, nudging him and kicking him, but he pretended to be a dead body floating in the water. Rafayel kept still; if verbal convincing won't work, then he'll have to make you change your mind.

"Fine! Fine! I'll sleep with you!" you screamed. He rolled to the side, propped his elbows up, and rested his head on his palm. You just wanted to rub that triumphant grin off his face. He happily scooted underneath the blankets and hogged your side of the bed, wrapping his hand around you and shutting his eyes.

You didn't want to make a big deal of it further and decided to head to bed as well.

You were stirred awake by a strain in your neck. The lids of your eyes lifted at the electrifying pain that traveled to your head. You squinted, barely able to process the faint blue outside the window. Your body was spread out again, and nearby you could see Rafayel making use of the awkward space he was left with.

Guilt washed over your tired body.

Without much thought left, you held onto two pillows and let your body slip down to the carpeted floor. You hugged the pillow and placed another one under your head, liking the furry texture that brushed the side of your bare arms and legs. You closed your eyes again and let the tiredness wash over you.

It was cold for a summer morning. A large yawn escaped your lips and you patiently waited for your eyes to focus, and when they did, your eyes widened immediately at the beautiful sight of a sleeping Lemurian. Rafayel, too, was now on the floor, using his own arm as a pillow.

You tapped on his shoulder, and he just pulled you down back to the floor. "Five more minutes," he groaned, burying his face in your collar. Luckily, it was a Saturday, and you didn't have to go to work. You could indulge him in the meantime.

Author's footnotes: lol the tiktok was very cute, something that you'd see in a rom-com enemies to lovers sort of romance story. It would be a pretty redundant snippet if every situation is the same for the love interest so I took the liberty of changing things a bit.

Chapter 01: To Begin, Story 02: Mysterious Light

From the first moment I saw him, I knew he'd be the one.

i had thought of playing it as unbiased, enjoying all the love interests interactions n such but right from the beginning Xavier began growing on me..

Ah shit! Here we go again..

the way he doesn't wake up when you pat him but he does when he hears the sound of the watch?

i think this is about how he'd rather deal with the mess himself than get more people involved/in danger..

He's also like: WHO THE FUCK DISTURBED MY PEACEFUL SLEEP!?

Ngl y'all the annoyance looks HOT 🥵 on him.. y'all can call me smitten or whatever but I'd love seeing more of this Xavier..

you can see your face slowly registering in his suddenly roused, sleepy and addled brain..like OH IT'S YOU

I think (just my personal belief) that Xavier didn't intend to make direct contact with you. That his intention was to keep tabs on you from a certain distance. Like he found out you were preparing to become a Deepspace Hunter, and himself decided to work here a few years earlier on..even living in the same apartment complex as you but thats likely cuz most hunters live there..

And I think he would stayed low and kept watch over you from a distance but then on your very first mission, you encountered him by chance. I'M SORRY I'M A SUCKER FOR FATED ENCOUNTERS 😩✨

And then, he had no choice but to make direct contact/interact with you (and fall for you all over again..cause thats something he's incapable of controlling..)

this is the expression of a man who's being targeted by innumerable organisations, wanderers being sent after him, he's probably surviving on take-outs and cup noodles, hasn't properly slept in days..

Add to that: you appearing out of nowhere so now he has to make sure to protect you, even though he trusts you can fight and protect yourself quite well..

And on top of that the collar on his neck is being a bitch!

So yeah..he's just going through it 😮‍💨

Right! Well. All good now.

Let's go and deal with that wanderer together.

rin's side stories: 02 - where jenna forces xavier to do his paperwork

“Xavier.”

No response. The body on the couch is so motionless that a civilian would have dialed the ambulance minutes ago. 

“Xavier.”

It’s almost impressive. If she were feeling more charitable, she would call it some kind of art form. There are very few people who can simply lie down and look like all the life has been sucked out from them. There is something to be said about how committed to playing dead the figure across the room from her is.

“Xavier.”

Her tone doesn’t brook any disobedience. It forces the body on the sofa to finally shift, fingers clutching the pillow over his face to shift down slightly. Xavier peers at her from under the cushion, blinking blearily at her as if she forced him out a particularly sweet dream. 

As if he’s not currently on the clock. 

“When you requisitioned the sofa, I didn’t expect you to put it to such use,” Jenna comments, raising an eyebrow at him. “We should put a timer on it. A timer and a repelling collar on you that sends you flying from the sofa when you’ve spent over fifteen minutes on it.”

Xavier pulls the pillow further down, tucking it under his chin. “You would do that to the best Hunter on your team?”

“Who better to serve as a role model for the rest of the team than yourself?”

“Always so cruel,” Xavier sighs, sitting up properly. “The paperwork never ends.”

Jenna eyes the amount of paperwork piled up on his desk, the towering stacks of paper that bury the metal surface of his table. “It never ends because you never do them, Xavier. Get to it.”

“You’re the one in command. You do it.” Xavier gives her a look that is probably the closest thing to earnest, but Jenna’s fallen for it before and she’ll be damned if she falls for it again. 

“They’re your missions. The longer you put it off, the more paperwork there will be. All it needs is a simple mission summary—Data Analytics will handle the majority of the information. Look at what Ning wrote: ‘Tuesday morning, Wanderers at Chica’s Pizza, one Wanderer. Pizzeria was full of civilians, maybe thirty in total, full evacuation before engaging. No Protocore. Mission success.’ A total of twenty-five words.”

Xavier sighs. He stands, reluctance written all over his face and weighing his muscles down as he walks over to his desk. “What about something like, ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’?”

Jenna feels a headache come on. Xavier isn’t usually the main cause for her headaches—no, that position is saved for select people, like Nero, the serial escapist, or Andrew, the pain in her ass—but when Xavier gives her a headache, he gives her one that’s sharp and lingers. For ages. Because that’s how long he takes to complete his paperwork. 

“No. Captain’s orders. I know you have an excellent memory, Xavier. Once you put your mind to it, you’ll finish your work in no time.” She pauses, then, deciding to strike fear into his heart, adds, “be grateful I haven’t assigned you to liaise with Data Analytics on sifting through the data you bring back from your missions. I could make you list down all the Protocores you obtain from each mission, down to the specificity of each Protocurve. I could make you list the type of Wanderers you face, down to the category and details like how many limbs they had.”

The sound of pen on paper stops. When Jenna looks up, Xavier’s looking at her in shock. 

“You wouldn’t,” he says. He sounds hesitant even to her.

Jenna shrugs. This appears to be a surprisingly effective threat against him. She mentally files it away for a rainy day. “Maybe I would. I have the paperwork done up. All I need to do is have my hand slip.”

Xavier shakes his head. “Incredible,” he mutters, pen scratching away on the smooth surface of his documents. “You’re terrifying, Captain.”

"Just— just go!" Enid yelled at you over the pounding of rain against the roof. Tears streamed down your puffy cheeks as you quickly ran out of your shared dorm with the werewolf. 

You raced down the stairs as you ignored everyone you knew asking if you were okay or where you were going. 

You only had one person to go to, but he was outside. In the pouring rain.

You had nothing to protect yourself from the rain, so you just decided to run to his shed, to escape Enid and how angry she was.

Xavier was setting up his canvas when he heard a loud knock upon the door of his art shed, opening the door to see your face. 

You were drenched. It was pouring rain, and you didn't have a coat, hat, umbrella, or anything to cover yourself from the wet, cold air. 

Xavier immediately pulled you into his shed, going and grabbing one of the stray towels he used when he spilled his water for the paint or water would get into the shed. 

"Why did you come here in the cold rain?" He asked, drying you off and grabbing letting you sit down on the beanbag in the corner of the room. "I'm sorry, I— Enid got mad at me and made me leave the dorm." You murmured. 

"I'm sorry, honey," He cooed, picking you up and sitting down before sitting you on his lap. You curled against his chest into a fetal position, listening to his soft heartbeat. 

"I didn't mean to interrupt your painting session, or whatever you were doing." You said, looking up at the boy pitifully. "It's okay, I  hadnt even started painting yet." He said, kissing your forehead. "What happened anyway?" He inquired, letting you play with his tied up hair as you usually would when stressed. 

"I told her it was okay if she was a late bloomer and she just like– blew up on me. She's so upset she hasn't gotten any other werewolf features other than her claws." You said, looking up at your boyfriend as you aged with his hair. "I'm sure she was just stressed out," He comforted.

"Do you just wanna come to my dorm? Ajax won't be there for a while I'm sure." He reassured, getting up when you nodded. 

He quickly slipped his jacket off and slid it onto your shoulders as the rain wasn't as bad but was still there. "We can do whatever you want when we get there. Cuddle, watch movies, listen to music, talk, anything." He said, pulling your hood up for you as he locked his shed.  "I love you, xavier." You said, looking at his dark orbs light up from your statement.

"I love you more, my angel."

Shota is invited to Xavier’s school as a means to help students and to possibly establish more hero programs in the West.

I have finally settled after 36++ hours of travel.

The drive that I have to endure ever f*****g time.

I recently traveled from Manila (MNL) to Puerto Princesa (PPS) via 2Go Travel, on board M/V St. Francis Xavier. It had been over 20 years since I last took a sea voyage. I used to travel this way when I was younger, often with my parents and sister, or with my grandparents and cousins. It was a more affordable option than flying. At that time, budget airlines like Cebu Pacific and AirAsia didn't fly to Puerto Princesa, and Philippine Airlines tickets were quite expensive (over PHP 3,000 for a roundtrip fare in the 1990s).

Fun part was still seeing these kinds of sceneries.

It was the perfect time for a trip by sea. If I'd taken a flight, I would have been delayed by 1-2 days due to the global Microsoft glitch a few days ago. The voyage was supposed to leave at 7 pm but got delayed for five hours. Five hours isn't too bad compared to 1-2 days.

Sea travel alone bored me quite a bit. There was no one to talk to, and all I wanted to do was lie down on my bed, read, study, and take notes. A few strangers tried to talk to me, but I was never good at small talk, so the conversations were terminated after a few exchanges. Apparently, sea travel was a lot better when I was a kid.

I arrived at PPS around 3:30 in the morning of yesterday after a 24-hour travel and a 3-hour stop at the Port of Coron.

After more than a month, I met with my dad and mom so I could get my car. I noticed that my father’s legs have progressed to swelling and oedema, which started more than 6 months ago. I’ve already put him in diuretics and had him undergo tests for several tests to rule out heart, lung, and kidney conditions. Everything was fine except for a mild pulmonary regurgitation on his 2D echo. His Ejection Fraction was good. His AV duplex a few months ago was normal as well. In other words, all tests were inconclusive.

So today, I decided to start him on anticoagulants. I should have started him earlier but DOACs are expensive as hell.

“Iinumin mo ba ito kahit 92 pesos per tab?” I asked him.

“Oo, kung kailangan talaga.”

“Sige, ipa-labs muna kita. I need baseline labs para malaman kung pwede sa’yo yung gamot.”

Sometimes, treating family members can be more challenging than treating regular patients. I'm not sure whether it's due to non-compliance or the comfort of being able to share everything, including bizarre symptoms.

Xavier's Directional Orbit: Light - Stage 130 Clear + Vod

I realize this post clear write up is hella long over due, but July was such a busy month for me between balancing irl schedules and processing those Illusio Requests (which were more time sensitive). Nevertheless, for record keeping, Xavier and I cleared his Directional Orbit: Light - Stage 130 on July 22nd!

Some important information to know before challenging Xavier's Stage 130 is that you will need two teams. Team 01's protofield Stellactrum is 5-Emerald and 1-Pearl. Team 02's Protofield Stellactrum is 5-Amber and 1-Ruby.

By having a ’perfect match’ with the Protofield Stellactrum you will receive additional attribute bonuses (for every color you match increase DMG boost 5.0% and DMG reduction 5.0% up to 30.0%), as well as the ability to shatter two protofield shields in a single strike.

For this stage I opted to match the colors for each team. The bonuses of having a perfect match was more optimal rather than me trying to brute force it. I also decided to use Xavier's Lumiere companion for both fights; more about that below.

Looking back at this stage I'm pretty sure my first few run was with Lightseeker Companion in the first half. I actually had difficulty grouping up the 4 wanderers together since none of them seem to want to be near each other in order for me to utilize Luminescence Blade's Active skill for cleave damage. This is why I opted to use Lumiere companion instead of Lightseeker here; I needed his control abilities.

My advice is to focus on the Carmine Talons first and then eliminate the Elysian Lacertus. Kindly overlook my messy game play, but in my clear vod you can see that I can have the Elysian Lacertus come to me instead of jumping all over the place while I focused on the Talons. Having Lumiere's Support Skill, Lunar Vortex, made it easier for me get all the wanderers grouped up together while we did AoE damage. It was such a close fight, but thankfully my Ardent Oath came up in time.

For the second half of the fight, I don't want to say it was a joke but... Lumiere really is the best. His Passive Skill, Moonfall, is so broken when combined with Moonchaser's Active Skill, Moontide. That's why, if you have R2 Lumiere, having 2-Expedited Energy Boost beta protocores on Lumiere is BiS is highly recommended. If you don't have Lumiere ranked up I would still equip 1-Expedited Energy boost with 1-Oath Recovery Boost beta protocore at 11% in order to use Ardent Oath twice.

Unfortunately, I don't have screenshots of my stat attributes or have any recollection of which protocores I used for this fight. I'm also unable to recreate those stats I used for this fight because I've upgraded his memories and protocores since then.

So we'll just go off with what information I do have from my clear vod. If anyone has any questions or concerns about this particular stage I would be happy to help!
