One of the best things about Victor is the fact he's so... versatile in terms of design. I mean, take xcom as his main habitat - and he's a perfect (not so) little Thin Man. Take that bad boy and yeet it in any other AU or even original universe - and hey, he's totally at home in there too. Ah, the perks of being a snakelike humanoid creature.
(What the hell do I call his species outside of xcom though... an alien? A hybrid?? Who are you, my son???)

Okay, might be a little fanfiction-brained of me but I think that in Xcom it would be so thematically fitting for Bradford to marry a Hybrid.
A way of showing him coming to terms with life after ADVENT. Setting aside his hatred of aliens to find love in the new world.

Did you ever play the original Xcom before making Roomies!? Because both the game and your webcomic have the idea of aliens abducitng humans to create hybrids.
No, I've never played Xcom. The abductees thing sprung from wanting to cameo the Aliens early in Roomies! via an abduction sequence, and things tumbled from there.
oh and later drawing everyone jumping off a building because it looked cool and realized wait that'd kill them OH WELL UH UH i guess abductees have superpowers, better draw somebody carrying jason down in the next strip

🎆Fireworks: for the self insert ask game, with any or all your self inserts.
🎆Fireworks: Do you/your self-insert have any powers or abilities? If so, what are they and how do they manifest?
Me as myself entirely--
With Central (main isekai verse): In the XCOM 2 isekai verse, I end up with Psionics (space magic essentially) and am bonded to Asaru (he's the Ethereal who is lampshaded to be helping XCOM; in my verse, my getting involved makes him not very happy about the entire situation).
Me as slightly modified--
With the Trunk Buddies (sorta isekai): In this verse I'm still me and so consider myself a Friendly; I end up trapped in a Green Box (secret storage of Delta Green supplies) after a desperate ritual gone wrong-- it left me transformed into a wolf human hybrid monster. I've got a few (undetermined) special abilities, but cons outweigh pros.
Me as a S/I--
With Parker (isekai-ish): I (as Misha) technically welded the Microphone before, as I am... Also Parker and came from my own seperate alternate reality, but it doesn't work anymore (although I still have it in my possession); I also have vague knowledge of what's coming and going to happen until the end of Season 24 (due to Misha being me -- he's a brain copy, essentially. It's all somewhat complicated.)
Everyone else, I don't have any special powers or abilities. I'm just me lmao. That may change eventually though.

Tira - The Herd - Charlotte Veldhuizen
Tumblr media
Now I'm not usually into ground animals, but Charlotte somehow turned this familiar concept and make it wonderful even to me. I just love the large creatures at the back, something about them is super unique and nothing like I've seen before. They have little antennas on the top, they have grasshopper like front arms, which then has giraffe like back arms and the rest looks like a mix between a zebra and a rhino. I also love that the leader has a white fluffy top body, but then has a contrasting dark skin with streaks of white on its back.
The little creatures are also really cool, they sort of look exposed like they don't have any skin, just sticking out muscles. looks like a hybrid between the Berserker from XCOM 2, a dog, and a crab.

Thinking about the whole “volunteer” aspect of the ADVENT army peacekeepers and like to imagine those that volunteer and don’t get shipped off to be converted or stripped down into goo, are mind controlled and moved to some place where they get “hooked” into the system to control a peacekeeper to do their “job” for the day.
The peacekeeper will roughly match how the person looks minus what’s under the helmet. A bit of a security blanket if they ever cross paths with family and friends.
Once their shift is over, they’re moved back to the wherever and simulate “clocking out” before being released from the mind control.
And false memories get implanted.

Penutup

.........oh no. How much do you think Jake gossips about the rest of the Resistance in barely-masked language ie; "Stanford" (in particular, about Moxrider, and other couples in the Resistance, and individuals aside from the Commander/totally-not-the-Commander) and how often does he get chewed out/physically threatened for it XD
Let's say, Middle Official Stanford is really good at teaching others not to spill the tea on air, if said others make little to no effort to censor themselves. Especially when said others lose all common sense and start gossiping about the XCOM Commander, whoever they may be, being in a relationship with XCOM's token ethereal hybrid. I mean, the gossip did end up beneficial for keeping the Commander's identity protected and not associated with Ensoi's undercover persona after all... Jake still got punched in the gut for it.
(Bradford wanted to do this for so long, you have no idea)
If you think that stopped Jake from being a gossip machine - lol, nope! But he did make an effort to be more subtle about the people he's gossiping about. Moxrider in particular is his OTP, he is the main shipper, he is writing fanfiction and that is not a joke. Neither Dragunova nor Mox are called by their names, or even factions, but, really... When Jake starts yapping about forbidden romance on the battlefield, Romeo and Juliet style, we all know who he has in mind.
Still, sometimes he's just too damn goofy and obvious, even when he tries not to. Remember that "penmanship" incident? The next note with the same request he gets is written more neatly, clearly by someone else, and instead of a name it's signed with "Jake, for the love of god, shut the fuck up, or I'm telling Brad-Stanford". His dumb ass reads that part aloud too.
He quickly gets accustomed to hearing Bradford growling "Jake..." whenever the Avenger communicates with him, before officer sighs heavily and tries his goddamn best to politely tell Jake to keep his mouth shut, or that punch won't be the last, he swears to god, how can Jake be this fucking stupid despite being a radio host for so long, FUCK. Jake, although threatened, thanks the universe that Bradford can't see his shit-eating grin right now.
Cue the sheer horror he feels when he sees not only Bradford, but the entire squad of the officer, Chit-Chat, Dr. Tygan and a couple of soldiers rapidly approaching the shack he's living in/streaming from. Oh, that's not good, that is NOT good. He fucked up big time, it seems, hell, Bradford is fully armed, too!
^ and then they push Victor forward and tell Jake that's his new radio buddy for some time. Yes, he's exactly who he looks like. Yes. Ye- Jake, shut up and listen. We leave him here to keep an eye on you, and we expect you to keep an eye on him as well. Good? Good.
The amount of gossip lowers down significantly after that, much to Bradford's delight. Though, it turns into Jake being all lovey-dovey on air, but, eh... you win some, you lose some.

Every time you have mentioned Xenos Rampant recently my brain has jumped to either XCom or Xenonauts (which is a spiritual successor to the original 1990s X-Com UFO Defense). XCom 2 DLC has the Lost which are basically zombies and you can easily have a battle between XCom forces and the half human hybrids the Advent while they are also fighting off the lost.
Xenos Rampant sounds very versatile for recreating fun sci-fi concepts/battles.
100%, I would like to do a zombie based Xenos Rampant game, along the lines of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
You’ve got survivors surrounded by the zombies, then you’ve got one special forces group that is working to rescue the survivors; getting them out of the area via transport or just securing them, and then another special forces group that is tasked to eliminate the survivors.

Xcom and Hunt Showdown are inspiring a new strategy game and the extraction of Shooter Hybrid
Ice Code, the Hard West 2 and Rogue Waters Games last year, manufactured a position for itself in tactical combat design with historical settings filled with supernova. Hard West is held and completed in Western American in the nineteenth century, chased by demonic creatures, while Rogue Waters offer strategic pirates in the monster seas. Now, the studio continues in a similar context with the…

Conversion Corner: XCOM playable races part 2
Hybrids
When the original XCOM organization failed to stop the invasion, and XCOM’s commander was captured, they were hidden away and implanted with a cybernetic implant chip and placed in stasis.
The purpose of this would come in the following years, as the organization that served as the alien’s front in governing humanity: ADVENT, began fielding troops that seemed human on the surface from what little of their faces could be seen with their concealing helmets. Officially, these ADVENT troopers were composed of humans who volunteered to work with ADVENT in promoting peacekeeping. However, in truth, these troopers are all hybrids of human and alien DNA, and while the first wave may have started as humans, altered to be more suitable as soldiers, but the rest were all clones of those original beings.
These hybrids were also implanted with a control chip that not only helped make their genetically predisposed brains and indoctrinated minds more obedient and compliant with their role as soldier-slaves, but also gave them access to a neural network of tactical combat data, supplied by none other than XCOM’s former commander themselves as their dreaming mind was flooded with scenario after scenario. (In other words, literally every playthrough of Enemy Unknown/Within is a false fever dream of the commander in his captivity before being rescued at the beginning of XCOM 2, unknowingly supplying the ADVENT military with superior strategic and tactical know-how.
However, clone or not, during the “War of the Chosen variant” of XCOM 2’s campaign, it is revealed that some hybrids sported defective or damaged implants, allowing them to grow self-aware enough to remove them and rebel, forming a resistance faction called the Skirmishers that rejected the near-religious worship of the Elders, joining the XCOM resistance in ending the invader’s control of the planet.
Fast-forward five years, and hybrids have perhaps become the most successful at integrating among humans, but things are far from perfect. Among the struggles one would typically expect of foreign refugees and ex-soldiers from a losing side, certain ex-ADVENT hybrids retain their zealous worship of the Elders, forming cults and terrorist cells, while many hybrids are at risk of a species-specific disease known as The Fade, which, while details are not given in Chimera Squad, it can be assumed by the player that this disease may in fact be a deliberately engineered creation, a way to limit the lifespan on what were originally disposable troops.
It is not specifically stated what the source of alien DNA is, it can be assumed due to their similarities that hybrids combine human and sectoid traits, using humans as the base while the modern sectoid in the reverse. However, whereas the modern sectoid was improved from the sickly and twisted state the Elders left them in, the purpose of the hybrid seems more have been to help impose the controls the elders already had in place on sectoids into human stock.
The result, at least physically, are humanoids with scar-ridged, hairless scalps, high, exaggerated cheekbones and brows, sunken eyes with squinting eyelids, and broad and flat noses with slitlike nostrils.
Culturally, the post-ADVENT hybrids as a whole are still very much trying to find themselves, much in the way that child soldiers and those who grew up in a warzone still adapt to a world that isn’t constantly at war. Just like humans, some falter and fall into dark thoughts, while others rise above. Those rare few that were truly modified from human stock may seek to reconnect with their past lives, while clones may seek to make new lives for themselves. They do see themselves as unified under the common banner of former slaves, however, and while many crave authority, they are reasonably wary of them, and seek out those that serve the people, rather than the other way around.
