Xenogender and Ao3 and Art
Hi xenogender and xenoaesthetic folks, entities, and realms and all and none,
it has occurred to us that we um, have written the majority of works on Archive of Our Own that have the xenogender tag. And we’re asking ourselves, we can’t be the only [(alien) robot] persons that plays around with this stuff right? (we’re plural btw)
When we talk to trans folks whether plural or nonhuman or no a bunch of folks relate to our terminologies we’ve come up with and sometimes giving people a look at the worldbuilding doc we’re not quite ready to post yet helps especially if they aren’t going to read fics generally, but also we know that our own experience with aesthetics that our oldest headmate struggled with for more than two decades to put words to and we helped her grasp she pronouns for, for herself in non-human history and assemblage terms, is just one small part of the vast xeno aesthetic spectrum. We’re just one system, and we want to know... what stories have you written, or are writing or making? We thought it might be cool if people reblogged around with their own stuff so their could be a post where all our stuff is together. More than anything- we feel a bit lonely sometimes, because being both on a xeno aesthetic spectrum and by and large a bunch of robots- we are beloved by our community and friends and loved ones, for which we are very thankful, and know a folks who can relate, but we wanna know what people are up to, or just thoughts.
So for those unfamiliar with us, our fanfic (we will eventually do original fiction) is about (Trans)formers and navigates hopepunk stuff regarding autonomy and aesthetic iteration with sparring, family, war, subaltern and community, love, diplomacy, gestalt consciousness, and so forth, drawing in part on the beautiful lore from seven different gender expansive canonical transforming robots in particular before Transformers Earthspark hit and introduced Nightshade (aside from how their whole choosing alt mode thing very much feels like choosing aesthetic expression and in Twitch’s case came before her pronouns were used but anyway) but specifically Arcee(s), Anode, and Lug. Our pg-13 or g-rated works thus far are mostly in the Autosignet Cycle aside from a few shipping fics. The Autosignet Cycle, mostly set in an original continuity, is probably going to continue for years with more fics to come, we started planning out very early versions of this in 2020 but tfwiki’s discord is what jumpstarted our first fic for the series, Day of Multiflame:
1. Day of Multiflame (complete)
A day of mirth, of memory, of rejoicing, of flames dancing together. On this ancient Camien holiday, some plucky heroes young and old across assemblage including two organics come together to celebrate, and to face the struggles ahead, of transformer majority worlds approaching outright conflict over rejoining the largest treaty organization of the galaxy… All the while ancient conflicts and motives beyond their current understanding overshadow everything, rolled up in the origins of these transforming robots. Between intergenerational family, swords, gifts, and I love yous and more, the steadying of each other is enough, to have a little bit of joy and wisdom on this Day of Multiflame.
2. Wheels of Mutuality and Symbiosis (complete)
Glyph tries to lucid dream to solve the puzzle of her sleep issues, not all is as it seems- but her love of Tap-Out and what informs her aesthetic experience runs strong, helping her through to some long awaited elucidations that are big if true.
This has some big zoomdare energy but I think that is what I often will end up writing.
3. Hold on to Your Dancing (complete)
In honor of xenogender visibility day (May 15th)- I resolved to write two poems, one about my own experience remains unfinished, but one in honor of robot aesthetics via fanfiction was something I was able to finish.
Here you'll find some hints about my plot - some of what this story is on about - with a visiting of the past: the beginning of the last territorial campaign of the Anti-Functionist War, from two war veterans you'll meet later.
4. Honey I’m Cheering For You But No (complete)
A blast to the past before the Anti-Functionist War- archivist Prowl is trying to sort out his life, hasn't been so easy for him after an awful job that has left him very sensitive to the disquiet of society as the very subtly not so Golden Age reaches an end. His old friends Arcee and Aileron who unintentionally helped spark his journey are visiting- and he is beside himself. What does it all mean to him, to them, to carry on as they do, to transform?
In short, we the author finally give some answers with words to the slice of life actions you saw play out in Day of Multiflame- answers very much in context with Sparkflung Trust.
5. Rekindling Flight (incomplete, 7/13 chapters)
At long last, The vast majority of transformers, residing in the Planetwell Polity Alliance, are about to rejoin the largest galactic alliance, which the PPA originally helped create and was expelled from after the Unicron invasion and the subsequent thousands year long war with Functionist usurpers. But, all is not well- threats loom from all corners upon the Autobot revolution: Decepticons, Unicronists, Functionists, and deep existential problems with past, present, and future will try people from all walks of life fighting for intergenerational hope and love.
Nonetheless, something new and wonderful yet old and familiar is afoot- efforts by trillions and their many subalterns are not vain: the power and practice of iterative story.
6. Addendum (incomplete, estimated 10/30 chapters)
7 million years ago, the latest blow to gender on Cybertron is dealt by the rising Functionist tide, stirring an Arcee struggling with loneliness and aesthetic dysphoria into enraged action to help bots in the Hadean System across the aesthetic spectrum save their transformative glory and stories… in the process, she finds aid from the scientist Jhiaxus, who also offers her a new reformatting surgery to let her spark do shaping with CNA editing help. Thus begins a new chapter in her life as a founding member of the expansion of what would later be called the Anti-Vocation League alongside her beloved partner and fellow old person Codexa, while grappling with her own growing pile of pains and traumas. As the millennia carry on and she heads to space, she eventually meets Anode and Lug in the stars, and some dear moments near the present all the way through to events after Transformers: Optimus Prime #25: Post… where she helps some gender expansive bots, and with help from Aileron and her pals she finally gets some answers and closure to her own self, and has a reckoning with forces pitted against her for millions of years. The years after are not what she expected during most of her life prior, and she is glad for them…
This is a fanfic revolving around IDW1, that seeks to add to her already detailed and beautiful arc of a trans woman errant warrior sage coming to terms with herself and deciding to trust people and herself. We love her transformations very dearly, and wanted to attempt to reconcile her appearance in Spotlight: Arcee with her later writing, drawing on wisdom gathered through study and experience, and imagination to connect the dots. As you can tell just from the mention of Codexa in the tags above, this revisiting of IDW1 Arcee’s tale is in part made possible by later writing of gal transformers who we adore, and we will note we draw from ones from all across the decades of fiction of Transformers. What can we say, we love them, and know so much more about ourselves than we ever would have because of them.
For this post, we will note: though it is an IDW1 fic with m-spec and f-spec bots, we build quite a bit of gender variety and relation into it that makes it readily apparent that Cybertron of old is even more different from human histories of such in that regard, we will spoil a little and say that we intend to show how of then aesthetics is remembered and remade into something new and old in the years after the end of the official story...
7. Sparkflung Trust (complete)
Written for a Transformers "fanthology" and also is a tie-in to the Autosignet Cycle original continuity we have been writing - along with a bit of IDW1, Cyberverse, and Alternity. A story about transformation in many senses (surprise), including a quest for the Transformation Matrix … inside of one of the most powerful creatures transformers have ever encountered. What will the errant people on the journey realize, and will it be enough to put into practice to succeed?
If you want to see the other standalone fics we’ve done, including ones about beloved Acid Storm and Overlord, go take a look at our Ao3 page! :3

- @strawberrysystemx3
📖 headmate template 🐇
✦ Name(s): Page, Emerson, Rory ✦ Pronouns: they/them, ey/em/eir/eirs/emself, book/books/bookself, ix/ixs/ixself, co/cos/coself ✦ Species: human ✦ Age: adult (age-slides between 25 and 35) ✦ Role(s): interest holder, social protector ✦ Labels: neutrois, demixenogender, bisexual ✦ Xeno themes: warmth, birds, tea ✦ Interests/likes: books, pet care, unsolved mysteries ✦ Dislikes: crowds, people who lack critical thinking skills, overly bright colors ✦ Music taste: baroque pop, filk, twee pop, jangle pop ✦ Aesthetic(s): grandparentcore, liminal spaces ✦ Kins: deer, owls, jackalopes ✦ Emoji proxy: 📖🐇 ✦ Details:
Page is very shy, albeit not unsociable. They are very aware of their and the system's social battery. They are not afraid to politely express their limitations and needs in a social situation and protect the system from social burnout or worsening of social anxiety. Despite this, ey is intimate in private with those ey trusts and does want to make friends. Eir biggest interest is books and loves spending time at libraries, especially when the system need it for a change of pace. Ix especially likes anything that would be deemed "nerdy" - books about history and science as well as fictional genres like fantasy and sci-fi. Another thing they like reading about is unsolved mysteries, like the Voynich Manuscript or the Toynbee Tiles, as well as cryptids. Co also loves animals and is very interested in pet care, especially for rabbits and birds. If the system have pets, then they enjoy taking care of that pet as part of cos role, and if they do not, co enjoys watching videos of animal habitat setups or reading discussions on pet care forums.

Xenorientation/Xenoriented/Xeno-Orientation
A type of attraction that (like its gender counterpart) cannot be related to ideas of attraction (or lack there of) to masculinity, femininity, neutrality, androgyny or xeninity.
Example: A xenogender person may feel as if their gender is related to the stars. A Xenoriented person may feel as if their attraction can be explained though imagery of stars.
This is NOT an orientation related to paraphilias. Xenoriented people are not attracted TO what they describe their sexuality as. They simply feel as if their orientation is best described though non-typical means. As per the example above, the fictional individual is not attracted to stars, just feels as if their attraction can be described through stars.
Tumblr media
Xeno-Orientation. An Umbrella term for everyone with a xeno orientation.
Tumblr media
Xenosexual. A term for those who experience sexual xeno attraction.
Tumblr media
Xenoromantic. A term for those who experience romantic xeno attraction.
Tumblr media
Xenoalterous. A term for those who experience alterous xeno attraction.
Tumblr media
Xenoplatonic. A term for those who experience platonic xeno attraction.
Tumblr media
Xenoaesthetic. A term for those who experience aesthetic xeno attraction.
Feel 100% free to coin your own xenorientations.

SYNOPSIS —
Planet Jorrimm has been locked in an expansion war against Planet Feliva in their shared galaxy system; however, the two kingdoms are forced to shelve their rivalry once an unknown entity begins destroying their scouting fleets.
When their respective attempts to remove the invasive force fail, the two kingdoms reluctantly turn to one another, bring it with it a tentative proposal to combine their militaries and resources so that they might combat and eradicate their mutual enemy.
And to ensure the peaceful merging of their civilizations, the two kingdoms agree to a marital union between their only heirs, Galanon and Desgazah.
To ease the two volatile, stubborn princes into following through, a courtship period is put into place — alternating every three months, one prince will stay with the other on their homeworld, familiarizing themselves with one another, and to learn and understand the other's world and culture.

Hey i saw your anti-xeno post and you know you sound exactly like the trans people who are against nonbinary. The 'making a mockery', 'not grammatically correct', 'cant be taken seriously', 'just want to feel special'. All of that i have heard people who are enbyphobic say TO ME. You sound exactly like them.
You also say xenogender people eat pet food? And that just completely ignores what xenogender is. Xenogender is a poetic way of explaining ones gender. Gender is a social construct and all, created by people to categorize each other into neat boxes that sex didnt fill. People with xenogender are similar to nonbinary people, they saw the binary and said 'yah no' but found new words and ways to convay what they felt thier own gender to be. And i also believe you are listening to disproven sources because it sounds like somthing someone would say if they believed the proven false litter box story.
I am trying to be as nice as possible because i want to believe that you were just never explained or told this. But i also believe that you could have found this out yourself if you cared to.
I literally am non binary. Have been out for 8+ years and uses they/them pronouns in English and He/Him in my native language.
I know the litter box story is fake I'm not an idiot I actually search stuff and this story was created to antagonize trans kids.
Gender isn't feeling like you're an animal, a fictional character, an object ,a season or a concept.
I actually reached out to many Xenogender people before forming my opinion and they all basically said that their genders are aesthetics they like/feel connected to, so not a gender , it's okay to like something I personally love cats and relate a ton to them but I know I'm not one and gender has nothing to so with it.
I also am autistic and have ADHD and Mogai in general are very transphobic and abelist (and I'm not even talking about the roots of this trend).
Us neurodivergent people sometimes struggle with feeling like outcasts and "not human" but because we're different, our brains work differently and we feel not human because we cant relate to neurotypicals and to gender norms.
Thank you for being civil but it is wrong for you to call me enbyphobic, I will fight for trans and non binary kids even if they identify as "mogai" or not.

💥 headmate template 🪲
✦ Name(s): Mark, Slate, Alex ✦ Pronouns: he/him, it/its, x/xs/xself, xe/xem/xeir/xeirs/xemself ✦ Species: human ✦ Age: same as the system's body ✦ Role(s): trauma holder, anger holder, protector, debugger ✦ Labels: gendervoid, punkthing, aroace, gay (uses this as a synonym for "not straight") ✦ Xeno themes: anger, metal (material and/or music), the void ✦ Interests/likes: bugs, alt culture, movies ✦ Dislikes: dishonesty, fragile objects, overly sweet foods ✦ Music taste: punk rock, breakcore, thrash metal ✦ Aesthetic(s): nu punk, voidcore, bastardcore ✦ Objectum attraction(s): knives, guitars ✦ Kins: groenendael dogs, snakes, black holes ✦ Emoji proxy: 💥🪲 ✦ Details:
Mark is a trauma holder for past abuse the system has experienced. X is rightfully angry at the system's past abuser(s) and channels this anger through listening to aggressive, angry music genres (including but not limited to punk, breakcore, and metal). He is adamant that the system never have a traumatic experience like that again and reacts aggressively to people he perceives as abusive or a threat (regardless of the accuracy of that perception). It has a baseline level of distrust towards everyone outside of the system (other than possibly those the system are close to). X has a general interest in things and especially animals that are considered "gross" or unwanted by society (due to how holding trauma makes x feel), but its favorite are bugs. It also enjoys the culture and fashion surrounding its favorite types of music and likes going to shows if possible. Xeir favorite type of fictional media is movies, and xe especially likes horror, sci-fi, and "so bad it's good" movies (e.g. The Room), the last of which appeal to its chaotic sense of humor.
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]
[If you have not already experienced trauma compatible with what described in this template, you are discouraged from trying to introject THOSE PARTS of this headmate.]

Hello! You can call me Roswell, or Ros for short. I collect variant terms as a special interest. For a more literal archival blog with tags and stuff I recommend @radiomogai. My main blog is @pastelroswell (cw for posts about adult topics and politics, blog is 80% memes, shitposts, positivity and aesthetic stuff though) and 18+ LIOM blog is @xemboy (WIP. If you're a minor and interact there I'll block you there AND here).
Check out my notion if you'd like. It has my term collection and other stuff about me. Please share your term collections with me so I can add to mine, it really helps! /nf
Synnimchro/Altechro (bodily 27). I'm spiritual alterhuman (autocosm, divinekin, dogkin, foxkin, fictionkin, +more). Godshard (of my metasoul). Furry/Postfurry.
I've been in the neolabel community for over a decade! I was here when MOGAI was coined. I'm also the creator of the queer, omni, xenogender, ficto, and altersex flags along with many other flags and terms. I've collaborated on many too. I feel that gender education is my life's calling and I hope to do much more work for the community in the future! ☆
My primary overall gender descriptor is xemboy. I'm an ambiguous, xenic, genderqueer, femme nymboy. I only use boy/dude/guy etc. and not man/male (including "mlm" even though I'm a guy gay for guys). My xenogenders mostly relate to love, divinity, space, and various cute things.
I'm an aroallo bi gay. I also use gai, binotrix, floric, rosaen, queer, and homo. I'm POSIC and objectum. My primary attraction and relationship type is queerotic. I do not experience platonic or romantic attraction, but what I experience is indeed love and I'm polyamorous and happily partnered. ♡
I'm altersex (morphisex, phantasex). Atypically hormonally transitioned, paraphoric, and comfortably non-op/transine. AGAB nonconforming.
I use he/him, ae/aer, and ne/nym/nys pronouns and I dabble in others on occasion.
I'm autistic + ADHD-I, and I also have C-PTSD, DPD, dysthymia, and multiple OCD-spectrum disorders. I have other ambiguous or subclinical issues too. I'm also diagnosed with fibromyalgia/FMS. I am legally recognized as being disabled and I can't work.
Check my notion (linked above) for my full term/identity collection. This is a summary.
Special interests are psychology, philosophy, spirituality, nature, aesthetics, and identity of course. Always down to talk about them.
I am an anti-radqueer radinclus.

Hi! Hope you're doing well <3 I been reading some of your posts about LO and Greek culture in general! And as a non-greek I think your culture is amazing and it should be respected as any other culture, so, I had this question a little while ago
I made a couple of characters based on greek myth creatures, and I kinda had a story for them in an ancient greek inspired world (highly inspired tbh, I think it might take place in an ancient greek ambience as well), but now I think that might be insensitive (?) I don't know how to express it, but I just want to know, would it be ok if I continue with that idea or should I scratch it?
TIIIME TO FINALLY ANSWER THIS
I am really sorry for the long wait! I was trying to think how to answer this properly and also mustering the energy for it xD I will pin it so you can find it more easily, if you come back to the blog.
For starters, you can write whatever you wish. I am hesitant to say to people “you can't write this and that” because it might make people feel estranged and uncomfortable and I believe that distance serves no real purpose. Yes, it’s likely that a xenos won’t be making the story VERY culturally accurate but if the story is 30% culturally accurate as opposed to barely 5% which we see in the popular media today, then it’s still a win. Not to mention that Greeks themselves are not 100% culturally accurate most of the time in their Greek mythology stories. This happens because 1) Americanization has hit us hard 2) They write them just for fun without bothering to research much. We are also lucky if we have a 30% accuracy in our texts most of the time.
(I love percentages if you can’t tell 😂)
You might have figured out I have the tag #writing (and perhaps also #writing advice ??) where I answer these type of questions, so visiting it might help! I'm not gonna tell you if you can write it or not - you can write whatever you like - but I would advise you to treat the Greek culture like any other real or fictional culture. Do a proper “worldbuilding”, let’s say.
THE CREATURES
As you know, some are more serious and some are more playful. They don’t easily “switch” from their behaviors so it’s best to keep a serious creature serious and a playful creature playful throughout most of the story. Some reading is needed, to figure out how the ancient Greeks saw those creatures. Because assumptions are usually not helpful. If we have no clues about their behavior, that’s free real estate I guess 😂
Now, if you are going for the “almost like Greek culture but not quite” thing, that still needs similar studying. You need to know where you are basing those creatures and how they see their world - or how the world sees them. And what elements make sense to change.
You can still not base the characters nowhere and just have a gal with snakes in her head. You can do that xD However, if you like to be more in touch with the culture you need to use some context and the “ambience” you talked about. It’s another thing to say “this gal has snakes on her head“ and another to say “this is THE Medusa“.
Some Greek culture needs to shine through. I mean, it would be great if it could shine though in general, so your references and basis to Greek mythology are better. It would be safe to assume the ancient folklore creatures have some Greek culture in them since they have Greek names, they have been written in Greek stories behaving according to the Greek societal rules and ethics, and generally being symbols in Greece until our days. And your story is about Greek mythology, so you want to emphasize the Greek aspects of your heroes and world.
THE ANCIENT GREEK INSPIRED WORLD
I don't know what research you’ve done so far but I will begin from the basics anyways. Ancient Greek ambience, as you can probably guess, is not “chitons, wine, vines and white pillars” 😂 The ambience specifically doesn’t come from the aesthetics but from the feel of it - the food, the customs, the symbols, the dances, the language interjections, the behaviors and values. Parts of the culture are also how is reverence and modesty are expressed, what makes someone present “manly“ or “feminine”. So, it’s gonna take some research.
People usually write some of the aesthetic and think they are covered, even though their worldbuilding is bad, precisely because they have only presented the very top of the iceberg. No food, no dances, no certain behaviors, nothing. You could say they are “soulless Disney remakes”. 😂 You can also do that, but you need to know how it will come out. It might be quite bland and, if I am not mistaken, you said you want to avoid that. (And I think most of Greeks would tell you that they don’t mind a Greek “soulless” remake but it would be super extra great if you put cultural elements in).
Ok, I don’t mean make it like an encyclopedia, but presenting some stuff from the culture is how you get the ambience. You might as well take a writing advice list for worlbuilding stuff you must have and see which ones you can find irl from the Greek culture.
Important! Remember that nearby cultures affect each other, so if you change one element from the Greek culture it’s likely it has to be changed in other cultures next to your area. If wearing green makes you manly in Imaginary Greece, it will also make you manly in Imaginary Turkey and Imaginary Bulgaria, let’s say. (there is no “ancient Turkey” or “ancient Bulgaria” as countries - and depending on the era, “ancient Greece” is also not a thing - but you get my point xD)
For the interpersonal relationships/interactions, you can read some ancient translated texts presenting daily life situations of the ancient Greeks (start from Googling stuff, I really don’t have sources for that xD). It’s very likely that the ancient sources won’t give you a very defined feel (try it anyways, if you like). Therefore, I suggest you see interactions of modern Greek people.
Worry not! YouTube - through me xD - has you covered! Searching the tags #greek tv #greek youtuber #greek podcast and #video. On youtube you can even find vlogs of people visiting Greece and see interactions with the locals. (If you have trouble finding them, you can send me another ask).
Similarly, it might take months to find all the Greek language interjections so you can go for modern ones. Besides, many interjections like “popoo“ are ancient. Besides, if you are not making a very “serious” story, the modern touches might help it feel more in touch with the present.
Surely, people are people everywhere and humans between countries share cultural traits, but there are some slightly more predominant stuff depending on the culture. Cultures close to each other share more traits, so, if you can’t find any Greeks around, you might be able to find our neighbors. Middle Eastern, north African, or south European people (and Hispanic/Latino Americans!) around might help to understand the dynamics between friends and family members. If you already belong to some of those cultures, congrats, you have most of the formula figured out!
I gave so much space to the interpersonal relationships because that’s gonna give you an idea where the line of “respect” is. Surely, the ancient interpersonal relationships won’t be like the modern American ones  😂 There is no way a student goes to Chiron being like “hey, man, how you doin?” Knowing how Greek teachers were, as late as the 20th century, that’s gonna earn him a slap 😂
Another thing: saying “Good morning” and “good afternoon / goodnight” when you first and last see people in the day is VERY important and the best social practice! You won’t be considered rude if you don’t say them but in a slightly formal and especially professional environment, better use them. (Other modern Europeans also consider this a good practice.)
The most ancient greeting of Greeks is “be happy” (χάιρε / χαίρετε) but health is also very important and is another old greeting. Xάιρετε is more formal in our days and Γεια/Γεια σας ("have good health”) is the most used formal and informal one. Seeing how people wish health in the middle east, it might be that the Health thing has been here for centuries. Also, if you break something or something bad happens to you, we say “health” because having your health is more important than anything else.
Fun fact, “Charon“ (Χάρων) probably means “the happy one” :P It has the same root with (χάιρε / χαίρετε).
Many other social cues can be found in the tags I mentioned, but you can send me an ask if you need to know something more specific!
As for the food, you can find ancient recipes and even use modern ones (which are usually with the same ingredients). Same goes for dances and symbols. You can google stuff about them, go on Google Scholar and search there, as well. (Also, google pages where you can download those papers for free ;) ) Please do some cross examination to make sure that this element indeed exists and it’s not just one person pulling it our of their a**. 😂
If you can’t find info, you can lean on modern symbols and dances. The dances are similar through the centuries anyways. No one is going to come for you if you say you based an element on a modern Greek thing bc the ancient one was impossible to find with the resources available to you.
I don’t have many more things to add on these cultural elements because I already have tags for the modern ones. #greek cuisine #melomakarona #greek dance #greek custom #greek tradition  etc.
And, last but not least, research the weather!! I can't stress this enough 😩 We are not a desert and we are not the Tropics. If your weather is similar to the Greek one, then your creatures most likely will need some serious covering in Autumn and Winter 😂
All in all, it’s certainly not a piece of cake to write about other countries and cultures but, if they are open to let you in, you can learn stuff and do your best depicting them. It might not be perfect (and no work is actually perfect) but it would be a step to the right direction and might encourage more writers to do the same - instead of throwing some chitons in and calling it a day xD
If you have any other questions feel free to send me another message (dm or ask). You - or anyone else - REALLY WON’T BOTHER ME if you ask me many questions on my DMs or here.

Hello, do you believe it's valid to be LGBTQ/MOGAI and be attracted to creatures other than just humans? I've posted about this on both twitter and tumblr, and got quite a lot of hate for those posts. I just want to see your opinion since I greatly enjoy your blog.
There are xenor identities such as anime-/manga-, spectro-/phanto-/phasmo-, botano-/botani-, herbo-/herbi-, plant-/phyto-, dendro-/hylo-, vamp(iro)-, medusan, kin-, xeno-/alieno-, mer-/serene-, tobu-, terato-/monstro-/monster-, prae-, theo-, mytho(lo)-, anthro(po)-, anthrotherio-, exo-, etc.
They are related to alterhumans, fiction/fantasy, otherworldly things and objects. Zoo- isn't used within IMOGA. However, "attraction" doesn't need to be sexual/sensual/erotic or romantic/amorous/gamous/qplatonic. It's valid to feel amical attraction to dogs or aesthetic to cats, for example.

EC Brown
My wife Catie’s annual Krampusnacht event last December included a holiday market, and I presented a bin of paintings on chipboard that were folded like heavy 45 sleeves—with mulch+foliage+ploymer record shapes that became too encrusted to fit inside. The images invented an old psychedelic Krampus underground—militant and Luciferian. Dolly appeared as a surprise digression in the wee hours before the deadline. For the past seven years of Krampusnacht, I have sidestepped the European relics in favor of thoughts about American undercurrents—rowdy, sexual, heretical, and perilously savage. But I like to imagine that the deeper magma is something propulsive and generative, rather than malignantly atavistic. An inevitable rebellion against civilized living. With Edra’s prodding, I’m pursuing the Dolly tangent: imagining a history in which the liftoff of her solo career was profoundly controversial—to the point that an enclave of armed male consorts developed around her. Perhaps her audience had detected a Luciferian bent in her, that would need time to transition to a more acceptable yet radical Christianity. EC Brown: I prefer a collision of illustrative image-making that begs attention to narratives, and physical formats that shift these works into roles as implements or tactical objects addressing spaces and situations. Images have been a tempered fever-dream drawing from 1960s–70s aesthetics, pop occultism, science fiction, Modernist architecture, biomimetics, industrial photography and observational cinema. Often they are absurdist historical revisions. Since 2005, I have mostly operated in Chicago’s domestic artspaces. I co-organized Floor Length and Tux (2009–2014, with Catie Olson) and COMA (2006–2008, with Annika Seitz). I periodically organize a roving series entitled ASCII (2011–present). Since 2015, I have been conducting a discreet series out of my home entitled Tascam.

Interpersonal relationships, intergenerational and intersectional eco- and cyber- and xeno- feminism, reproductive justice, therapeutic aesthetics, color field painting, sci-fi tie-dye, hippie modernism, bio-punk, grunge, glam, and disco, are some of the vernaculars that inform my body of work. Since graduating in 2013 from SAIC’s department of Visual and Critical Studies, this organic body has manifested itself in a hybrid and polydisciplinamorous practice, including writing, audio-visual installations, textile-, and sartorial works. Mother is a noun and a verb; I regard my practice as a sourdough, a gestation of material, out of which individual works, texts, and shows are wrought, while the mother remains, active. Lise Haller Baggesen is a Danish born, Amsterdam raised, Chicago based, interdisciplinary artist. Her hybrid practice includes writing, installation, performative, sartorial and textile-based work. She is the author of Mothernism, and exhibits internationally, most recently with the multimedia show HATORADE RETROGRADE: THE MUSICAL, which premiered at SoEx in San Francisco in 2019 and will travel to G400 in Chicago in 2020

Rodrigo Lara Zendejas
I create memorials—fragmented, mischievous, and imperfect realities that reflect both a formal
break from traditional shape, while presenting an assemblage version of our collective social and political thoughts, concerns, and hopes. Although I was trained in the traditions of classical art, my pieces now are not always clean. Or finished. Or beautiful. My work holds the memory of an intimate process of becoming. In some bodies of work, I present obvious nooks and gashes, broad, quick strokes, and secretive, featherlike fingerprints, all of which aided in the modeling of the clay during the process of bringing the subject to life. It is this visceral and intimate approach to materials and form that drive my subjects of memory and memorialization through all of my works. When considering the human form and its relationship to memorialization, immediate thoughts of bronze statues at historical sites come to mind. My fascination, however, is in the way that memory—with its inherent, ever-changing fluidity—disrupts our ability to fully or truthfully freeze, or memorialize people, moments, or perspectives in history. Instead, it is our momentary glimpses of memory and hindsight that drive how we understand the present. As a Mexican immigrant to the United States, my works often rely on my own fragmented memories and stories of home, my direct experiences with fervent Catholicism, and other’s heroic (yet common) anecdotes of border crossing and acclimating to living in America. However, while my memories and relationships to patriotism, politics, my background, and my longing for the familiar certainly influence my work, it is my interest in the process, the poetics of the materials, and the action of sculpting that motivate my continued practice. Born in Mexico in 1981, Rodrigo Lara Zendejas received a MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2013. And his BFA from the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico in 2003. He has received several awards including: Proyectos Especiales FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) Mexico City; Emerging Artist Grant, Joan Mitchell Foundation, New York City; Jóvenes Creadores, FONCA, Mexico City; Extraordinary Abilities Visa, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; Artist’s Grant, Vermont Studio Art Center; James Nelson Raymond Fellowship, 2013 SAIC Fellowship Competition; PECDA Estudios en el extranjero,Instituto Queretano de la Cultura y las Artes; the International Graduate Scholarship, SAIC; and the John W. Kurtich Travel Scholarship, SAIC Berlin/Kassel, Germany; among others. He won the first price in sculpture at the National Award for Visual Arts in Mexico in 2010. Lara held solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in the state of Mexico, Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, Kruger Gallery in Marfa, Texas, among others. He has been in such residencies as the Vermont Studio Center, ACRE, Ragdale, Cross Currents: Cultural Exchange, Mana Miami, and Rogers Art Loft. Currently, Lara lives and works in Chicago.
