Official au introduction post for the fanmade Xiaolin Showdown continuation

I should mention that this will be updated more, and that this is an implied soft rewrite of the show, getting rid of some characterization and plot inconsistencies as well as new lore, not to mention the last few seconds of the show with the ultimate group battle did not actually happen, as it kinda doesnt make sense.

But other than that, we start right where we left off.

After over two years, the Xiaolin dragons have finally risen to Shoku Warrior rank. Raimundo, the Dragon of Wind, has been elected leader after the grand adventure in time caused by Omi's meddling. Luckily the timelines all brought themselves back into balance, reset by the paradox it had all caused.

Still, the entire ordeal did not pass without consequences.

The world they live in is the same it once was, but the people of the Xiaolin and Heylin conflict themselves have not avoided the flashes of timelines of what could have been, and what could be, each getting a different array, scrambling to see how they can use the knowledge to their advantage, dreading what the other side may know. It will change everything, but how?

At least Omi and Dojo are the only ones who went through the bad future with Emperor Jack, so they are the only ones with memories of it, right?

Jack Spicer sits in his lab, reeling at the possible ways his story could have gone and could go, and most of all, the image of a familiar tear-stained face, surrounded by guns, followed by blood blooming in its place etched clearly into his mind.

Yay! More silly XS!AUs based on that one episode in Xiaolin Chronicles where Jack wore a cool ninja outfit (still don’t like the reboot cartoon lol).

In another universe, Jack actually ends up as Tubbimura’s disciple and becomes a ninja in training. He’s surprisingly good at the art of the ninja such as espionage, sabotage, and gathering intel since he’s pretty fast and sneaky. But he’s still unable to fight one on one against a skilled warrior. He’s sorta useless in a close combat situation and has to rely on underhanded techniques or deploy his ninja robots. But Tubbimura thinks Jack does have what it takes to become a ninja master if only Jack could just focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to master a lot of things at once; like trying to be a super villain, genius robot inventor, soon to be Heylin Prince of Darkness, conqueror of the world etc at one go..

A very AU version of Jack Spicer from my Xiaolin Showdown (and a lil bit of Xiaolin Chronicles) reboot/retelling where he is the protagonist. I'll be mainly playing him as an adult here.

So in my AU reboot of DP, I'm trying to figure out how that time traveling episode with the Infi-Map should work.

Maybe Danny gets trained by some samurai ghosts who take a shine to him (why would they? Maybe it's their obsession to train new samurai) while he's in ancient Japan and he's actually there for a long time getting ready to face Vlad -- who he tracks down to Ming dynasty China somehow -- and because of how the Infi-Map works, he doesn't age at all while he's sent back in time? But Jazz/Sam/Tucker definitely notice he's changed. Are Sam and Tucker there with him throughout ALL the time traveling? Can't recall.

Does that sound interesting/plausible enough?

I want him to be a samurai foil to my AU reboot Randy Cunningham's ninja-ness, since in my fic they share the same universe -- as well as with Xiaolin Showdown/Chronicles, Life & Times of Juniper Lee, and American Dragon characters.

I wanna make it clear that Ping is a screenwriter only part-time and he's always gotten his jobs through connections with Jermaine and Omi. Of course he's only one of many screenwriters in the room.

Now, excuse me while I go on a ranting tangent that has absolutely nothing to do with this au.

Why the hell is ge called Ping Pong? He does have an actual name. I get that it's a super long name, and supposedly that's the joke. You give a character a super long and overly complicated name so the other characters are forced to give them a nickname. Kinda like Fez from That 70's Show. But see with Fez we, as the audience, don't actually know his real name. In the flashback scene where he first introduces himself to the other characters there's a really loud and long school bell covering up what he's saying. Not to mention the actors not actually saying a complicated name. He's just listing the names of his coworkers. So the joke in Xiaolin Chronicles really falls flat when we actually hear and know Ping's real name. Maurice Antonio Rolf Jean-Pierre Gaulle LeGrand IV. Just shorten his name? It's really not that hard. You've got a bunch to choose from.

Also, I really hate his character design. I don't dislike Ping as a whole. Not as much as other people seem to have disliked him. But this is still one of my 3 major issues with him (not including the stupid nickname). His design is just so lazy. Whose bright idea was it to just make him a smaller Omi with glasses? I hope it wasn't Christy Hui herself. It's especially weird since he's not even chinese? At least I don't think he is. He was born in Europe, nowhere specific, just Europe. Although given the origins of most of his real name I'm gonna guess he's meant to be French. I could forgive the design if it was revealed he was a literal relative of Omi's. Like they were actually brothers or something but none of the other characters even react to the fact that he's Omi's little mini me. Seems like a wasted opportunity to explore Omi's backstory since he's an orphan raised at the temple. Heck even the original Xiaolin Showdown only had one episode exploring it and it doesn't offer any actual answers. Just an evil plot by Hannibal, Wuya, and Jack to split up the monks.

Second problem I have with him is the convoluted backstory. Keep it simple. Ping is an orphan (like Omi) raised somewhere in Europe (for some reason I kinda remember him being brought up in a temple, not too sure though). He idolized the monks and when he heard they were looking for new recruits he seized the opportunity and went to China. See, simple enough. That's the only bit of information we need. Heck it's more than we got for Kimiko, Clay, and Raimundo. But no apparently he also worked as a messenger delivering mail across Europe due to his immense speed and he lost his job because the mail system evolved to no longer need him. Excuse me? Seriously? Kimiko has a cell phone in this show! The series takes place in modern society. I'm pretty sure majority of the world's mail systems were already developed waaaaaaay before the invention of the cell phone. He shouldn't have even had this type of job to begin with. Speed or no speed. Thirdly, I just don't like the use of his supposed element and just his distinct lack of personality. Ping is the very definition of a Mary Sue character (or a Gary Sue whatever). Perfect in almost every way, instantly befriends main characters, proves to be better than them morally, sad backstory (not too sad in this case thank God), etc. Seriously give the boy some kind of actual personality and feelings. Omi's a total assailed to him in part of the first 3 episodes, let the boy be angry, give him some character flaws like the rest of the monks! And please define what his actual abilities as the dragon of wood are. I swear the only time this stupid reboot let's him use any elemental ability is when he copys the others! What is he the avatar?! It's not enough that Xiaolin Showdown is wrongfully considered a rip off of the last Airbender? You've got to go and actually rip it off in the reboot?! Ugh seriously, I think this upsets me more than my dislike of shadow because Ping is a character with potential. The writing with him was just stupid.

Rant over. Also I officially headcannon Ping to be mixed French-Chinese. Like Marinette Dupain-Cheng from miraculous. God I can't believe I've got an actual headcannon for this show.

My interpretation of Jack Spicer is honestly best described as looking at evil through a rose-tinted lens, as ironic as it is.

Heck, every child character has a very cartoony and childish view on evil somewhat, not just Jack.

But cartoon logic aside, we do deal with that in the Splintered timeline fic, where I make everyone, especially Jack and Omi, shed their old perspectives of what it means to be good or evil, and what the conflict truly entails, by putting them through an event that forces them to change, and thus marks them growing up, and their perspectives with them.

Jack never considered what he'd actually have to do to rule the world, so when it all slaps him in the face in the worst possible way, he eventually comes to realize it's not only not what he needs, but not something he wants either, at least now that he knows what it actually means.

I am forcing Jack into finally confronting everything, I am making everything catch up with him, and the endgame is a happy ending for him but boy is it gonna suck to get there

Rules

We need some rules to keep the peace

- This should go without saying but: no incest ships, no shipping of minors with an age gap of over 2 years, and no minor/adult ships, including aged-up characters. The monks and Jack are 15-17 + Omi being just 12-13 in this universe anyway, and that part of the cast has known and had regular contact with adults such as Chase and Wuya since they were kids, not to mention the fact that that shipping them as freshly turned adults with much older characters would be really unsettling, and I'm explicitly saying this due to fandom spaces' unfortunate tendencies to think shipping a minor with an immortal being is okay due to their immortality somehow. People who support these ships or the people who ship them are not welcome here. Simply unfollow and dni if you do.

-No proshippers allowed, related to the above I guess. Will get blocked since I don't want to interact with them.

- No nsfw content of any adult characters either, but only since we want to keep this mostly sfw. Silly nsfw-ish jokes are allowed tho

- Please, if you are going to draw something for this au, drop the yellow skin racist caricature and make Omi look like an actual tan-skinned Chinese boy. And do not draw yellow skin Asians in general.

- Harrasment will not be tolerated

- This is my fic/au and I am thus the moderator and in charge of what is and is not canon to this au. I am looking for community input regarding idea and concept suggestions, especially in fields I am not too well-versed in and/or do not have too much drive for, for example Clay and Kimiko and Chase's characterization and arcs, cause I know they deserve it and I want to do them justice but I just don't think I can do it justice on my own as they are not my special interests. Any ideas/inspiration you may give me you will get properly credited for.

I have a Jack-centered post series au I need to get off my chest. Maybe someday I'll fully write it down but I'm gonna give you guys the name before dropping the base concept a while later.

It's called the Burnout au and I'll likely host it on my new and not yet set up blog @xiaolin-reboot where I'll also host an attempt at a community contributed reboot concept, aka I'll try to spark discussion of potential season 4 shenanigans and post/reblog with credit those I think fit best.
