Been playing Super Monkey Ball (trying to get to Master- it's absolute hell but it's fun)... Haven't made it to the storm floors yet but felt like applying the motif of the stages to Yaldabaoth (❁´◡`❁)

A boss yokai built on humanity's bizarre desire... for a god

This idea is one I've had since I made the seven deadly sins as legendary yokai. If there's a devil, where's god?

Initially, I didn't really feel like tackling Christianity because I myself am an atheist, and don't really like the idea of everything being the creation of one omnipotent being.

That was when I came across the specific sect of Christianity, gnosticism. The branch that doesn't trust their own God.

To give you a rundown, gnosticism gives a proper identity to the Christian God, Yaldabaoth the demiurge. A false God who did not create the world, but does take credit for its existence, and demands worship in return.

I took this idea, along with the concept of tulpas. Imaginary beings made manifest via belief in them.

In my headcanon, there is no great creator deity in this world, and if there ever was one there isn't a yokai old enough to remember it.

Yaldabaoth is instead born of the collective belief in a creator God, of the need to follow a higher power. Ironically, this belief is quite chaining.

Yaldabaoth is intended to be all powerful, all knowing, and all loving... but such an order is impossible for any one being to fill. The contradictions in what a God should be proved too much for his mind to handle, leading to a break in his sanity.

Quite ironically, his "daughter" Lucifer, as the sin of pride, was able to break from these chains of human belief, and become her own person. But Yaldabaoth remains a slave to the contradicting ideals.

I intended for him to be a more tragic spin on the "angels bad, demons good" trope. The contradicting beliefs have granted him godlike power, but he's unable to forge any sense of self outside of the duty of being God.

For the protection of the yokai world, and his own protection, Yaldabaoth was sealed inside the infinite inferno.

Yaldabaoth is an incredibly powerful boss yokai, with the unique ability to cycle through attributes as the fight progesses.

He has the soultimate: Judgement Day, which causes massive AoE damage that you must be tactical to survive

How actually messed up is that, how much of his influence still remains in joker? How does he even begin to process that he had to kill the guy who he kinda didn't always trust buff he helped him become more powerful and guided him

like, there's no way that joker meeting shido that night was a coincidence, for example. how much longer beforehand was yaldabaoth influencing his life? we know akechi was already active two years prior and it's entirely possible yaldabaoth had a hand in the events leading to that as well since it's known that he monitored akechi to a lesser degree (denying him access to the velvet room despite that he is also a wildcard)

so like, did yaldabaoth also have something to do with joker's upbringing? with his neglectful parents, all too willing to cast him out and cut off contact the moment he's accused of a crime he didn't commit?

how much of who he is was shaped before he knew there was an outside influence?
