heizou is a little shit (affectionate) and i think yanfei would be great at putting up with that. she would go along with his shenanigans most of the time—she doesn’t mind bending the rules, but if he straight up breaks the law during investigations she’ll probably keep him in line. kujou sara would love her LMAO

and even though she can be level-headed and knows how to rein him in, heizou’s flirting would most definitely get to her sometimes :) like if it catches her off guard her cheeks will turn the color of her hair and she shuts down JSBDJFHD

but i think she’d also flirt back with him when she has her wits about her since she is also a menace. and when they are both being menaces it’s terrifying for whatever criminal they’re after or investigating because they share one brain cell and it’s bouncing back and forth between them, but like it works because they’re in sync and know what the other is thinking. interrogations with these two would be incredible to watch

It felt warm amidst the cold of the season and radiated a sense of comfort throughout your body.

this is so dumb but it had to be said. I've been driving for a while so a lot of these are taken from irl experiences I've had myself or from friends. also I'm american so this is based on driving in the u.s. | modern au, humor, fluff, reckless driving

albedo ;; he has a habit of driving on the inner most lane of the highway but he doesn’t start switching to the exit lane until like 1 exit before. drove klee to the beach once 2 years ago and is still somehow finding sand in his car. all his turns are super wide

diluc ;; probably drives a very classic luxury car, like an aston martin or something. it’s sleek, it’s black, it’s giving batmobile because he drove with his high beams on for like 6 months and doesn’t get why it’s bad. it makes the road brighter he says as he blinds everyone going the other way. drives stick shift (manual), very hot when he reverses and puts his arm around the passenger seat

kaeya ;; he was the first person to get his license and everyone would ask him for rides, so now he drives a tiny sports car that doesn't fit anything. it’s also a luxury car but it’s flashier than diluc’s. follows driving laws to the T except for the fact that he never fully stops at stop signs

venti ;; an okay driver but it’s a terrible experience. you're amazed at how he hasn't run into any trouble yet. like at all. the kind of person who would try to run the yellow light except he’s doesn’t make it and is forced to brake really hard and just goes like "is everyone ok ehe.” you almost die and he says “oops”

xiao ;; pet peeve: slow drivers. absolutely cannot stand sitting in traffic so he rides a motorcycle. always weaving in between cars but does it significantly less if you’re riding with him. has yanfei on speed dial in case of an accident. doesn’t know he’s super hot when he takes off his helmet and shakes his hair

zhongli ;; a slow driver. goes under the speed limit on the highway and gets cut off like no tomorrow. he doesn't think he's the problem though, just complains about how everyone is going way too fast. safety king. fakes injury for insurance money when someone hits him; only feels kind of bad

ayato ;; has a driver that takes him everywhere because he does not drive, doesn't even have a license. passed his written exam with flying colors but failed on all three tries behind-the-wheel. his younger sister drives the car their parents bought for him. always likes tweets that are like “hot people don’t have their license”

gorou ;; family van kind of guy. very reliable and will drive you to the airport or help you move. doesn’t signal when switching lanes though which is kind of annoying. gets anxious driving in areas where there are a lot of one ways. always buys fruits from vendors selling it on the side of the road

heizou ;; drives with the top down, windows down and will make you feel like a coming of age movie protagonist. has the best driving playlist but will still hand you the aux if you ask. doesn’t pay for street parking though; parking meter? never heard of her

itto ;; car guy ™ who goes to car meets and mods his car. revs his engine when he sees his friends on the road but other than that he's actually a really good driver. takes very good care of his car— that’s his baby. he’s hot when he backs into parking spaces perfectly. blasts his music too loud at night though

kazuha ;; public transport icon. somehow never misses his bus/train/whatever and always manages to squeeze on even during rush hour. he tells people it's for the environment but that’s only half true. it's not that he can't drive, he just has the jankiest car; it's old as hell, has a dent on one side, and the passenger door doesn't even open from the inside

thoma ;; shining example of a perfect driver, the dmv wants him to do all their instructional videos. was only ever pulled over once before for swerving, but talked his way out of a ticket because he was trying to avoid hitting an animal. has those family stickers on his rear windshield except it's one man and like 3 dogs

al haitham ;; probably has an suv because he thinks it’s the most useful car and can get the most out of it. almost exclusively listens to audiobooks while driving. he had a great record until he accidentally rear ended a bus because he turned around to argue with kaveh in the backseat and now his car insurance is insanely high

cyno ;; super responsible driver, both hands on the wheel at 9 and 3 at all times. secretly really wants a retired police car because he thinks the idea of people suddenly slowing down when they see him on the road, thinking it’s a cop, is hilarious. names his car something stupid like attila the hyundai

kaveh ;; terrible at directions, his gps is constantly saying “rerouting” because he keeps missing turns and exits. cannot parallel park to save his life and will ask you to switch and park for him. generally a polite driver but if he's ever behind al haitham at a stop light, he beeps his horn at him 0.2 seconds after the light turns green

tighnari ;; his trunk is always full of plants and bags of soil, fertilizer, etc. has mild road rage; if he’s forced to brake hard because someone cut him off, especially while he has the right of way, he’s yelling in the car like “I should’ve hit you” because insurance would be on his side. carries snacks in his glove compartment, soccer mom energy

dainsleif ;; drives in silence, no music no radio— nothing; sometimes he'll listen to self help podcasts though. a lot of the times he zones out and doesn’t know how he got from point a to point b. sits in his car for like half an hour after arriving home. likes holding your hand while driving

dottore ;; mutters “this would be a good place to dump a body” whenever he drives past a ditch. got pulled over for driving in the carpool lane by himself and using a mannequin to fake a passenger. they also found a bunch of questionable things in his car that he swears is for science. no longer drives because his license got revoked

Y/N watched as her classmates started to shift around to find their partners. Her own friends leaving soon after, but not without checking in on their suspiciously quiet friend.

“Y/N?” Yanfei spoke up from beside her.

“Hmm?”

“Everything alright? You seem a bit down?”

“Yeah… just thinking i guess. I don’t really wanna talk about it right now but Lumine is free to tell you guys whatever. I don’t mind. I just don’t wanna talk about it all over again… Maybe aftewards.”

“No worries. We can talk anytime you need.” Yanfei gave you a gentle smile before leaving to look for her project partner Aether, waving to Heizou as she passed.

Y/N felt a hand on her head, ruffling her hair and she looked up to see HuTao grinning down at her. “You’ll be okay.” The brunette encouragingly patted her friend on the back (although it was more like a shove) before following suit to find her own partner.

Not long after, she heard the chair beside her being pulled out.

“Can I sit here?”

Y/N met eyes with Xiao, who waited patiently for her response despite feeling all kinds of emotions on the inside.

“Go ahead. We’re project partners after all.” There were so many things to be said, but so few words came to her mind as he took his spot beside her.

Moments passed and no further words were exchanged. It was as if the air was denser, harder to breathe in and harder to communicate through.

“So… are you feeling alright.” Xiao finally said, deciding to break the silence between them.

“Mhm.” Y/N responded.

“Are you sure? You seem… different.”

“Yes, I’m sure.” She gave him a curt smile. “I’ve just been… stressed so you don’t need to worry about me.”

It was hard for her to read the expression on his face. A little hesitant and a lot concerned, perhaps.

“Don’t push yourself too hard. It’s not good for your health.”

“Yeah I guess it would be pretty bad if I got sick since we’re working together on this project, huh.”

“Whether you’re my partner or not I’d prefer that you’re always happy and healthy.”

“I’ll be okay. Let’s just start working alright? We’ve already finished the first draft so I guess we could use this time to peer review each other’s work.”

“Alright.”

Scaramouche looked up from his phone to glare at the boy wearing teal braids in front of him.

“The fuck you mean you nominate me?” He whispered loud enough for the other band members around them to hear.

“Well you’re probably the most acquainted to both of them out of the five of us. And you don’t have shit to do in this class either!” Venti argued.

“Fine.” Scaramouche said as he roughly pulled his Venti’s beanie down to his eyes, before treading off to find a seat near Y/N and Xiao.

“I think we can probably get the submission draft done by tonight if we keep working on it.” Y/N said, looking up from her screen as she reached the half-way point of Xiao’s part of the report.

“Yeah, probably. I’m down to push through and get it all over with tonight.” Xiao agreed, thinking it would be the best decision as it would lessen the workload on Y/N's shoulders.

“You guys don’t have any plans tonight?”

“I don’t think so.” He felt as if he was missing something...

“I thought you guys had band practices Tuesday evenings.”

Oh right. That's what he forgot. “Oh shit." He said, mentally facepalming. "We do…”

"It's alright then, Xiao, no biggie." Y/N reassured him that it would be alright for them to finish the day after until she was cut off by a familiar voice.

"Or, you can just come to band practice with us and work before and after we practice." As if appearing like the Cheshire cat, Xiao's indigo-haired cousin spoke up from the seat directly behind the partners.

"Scara?"

"Oh so you've finally noticed. Venti's here too." He smiled at her.

"Are you guys stupid? This is a 9am class! Why are you even here?"

"Tch. It's always why Scara but never how's Scara, huh." Scaramouche rolled his eyes at her for unknowingly sounding too similar to Aether. "But like I said. Come with us to band. We won't mind an audience. Right Xiao?"

"Yeah. I'll walk you home after too." His cousin agreed. "It's better that we finish this submission sooner rather than later for you. It'll take some stress off of your shoulders, Y/N."

Despite her constant inner turmoil, Xiao never failed to make her heart skip a beat and almost forget all of her worries. He always remained attentive and caring, making her feel safe and special regardless of what was happening around them.

"Pfft-stress? From what? Colouring in your business analysis charts with crayon?" Scaramouche cackled from behind her. "You're in business... what could be so stressful about your course load? I've seen Childe submit a picture of a marketing poster he made out of Crayola marker and get an 85%. It wasn't even scanned to be submitted as a PDF. Straight up PNG to the submission folder."

"Lay off it, Kuni. They're in different programs." Xiao rolled his eyes at his cousin.

"Yeah! Shut up, nerd. Don't you have problem sets to finish or something?" Y/N stuck her tongue out at the Inazuman in retaliation.

"Whatever. So you coming to practice or what?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'll go."

Summary- After the little get-together organized by Hu Tao, Xiao decides to go to Qingyun Peak and meet up with his darling.

"I'll... see you next time, then." Xiao said before he teleported away, leaving the traveler and Paimon to their own business.

The Adeptus closed his eyes and sighed, before opening them again to take in the view of Qingyun Peak, and you sitting amongst the grass, playing with the blades of the grass. "You're here! Look, this peak facing Liyue Harbour gives an excellent view of the lanterns and fireworks there." You said, barely looking at Xiao since your concentration was towards the bustling Harbour.

Xiao came towards you and looked towards Liyue, some lanterns still floating in the sky and the last of the fireworks dying out. He sat down, looking in your direction. Your eyes had a child-like admiration, the beauty of which could never compare to anything else in the world. Why then, would he look at those lanterns when he's lucky enough to witness your beauty?

For a second after that, you both locked your eyes, causing him to look away bashfully, letting his green strands fall in front of his face and cover his eyes. "Oh right, I got us some food." Xiao brought out a little parcel.

"Tell me about the feast," you turned towards him, sitting with your legs folded, and gazing up at him.

Xiao sighed, "We went to Xinyue Kiosk. Rex Lapis was there, as was the traveler and that chef Xiangling from the Moonchase festival. She gave me some almond tofu in this box, so I decided to get some more food for you as well." He took some food in his hands, bringing it to your mouth. You ate it, letting out a hum of content.

"And? Anything interesting?"

"Oh yes, the anemo archon ended up showing up and befriending Hu Tao. Archons, they'll be an annoying pair. Venti, as he goes by now, was indirectly exchanging petty arguments with Rex- urr Zhongli. It was so awkward to see two gods like that, especially when the traveler, Paimon and I were the only ones who knew."

You laughed and Xiao felt like he was already at peace. "Are you sure the funeral director doesn't know? She's much sharper than she looks." "Who knows." He replied, taking something to eat as well.

He was quiet now, going back to how he usually is. Looks like he just wanted to tell someone about the prior incidents, otherwise he wouldn't have spoken at all.

"Hmm Xiao, would you like to light a Xiao lantern?... Pun intended."

"Huh, oh you..." You just laughed again, and Xiao swears you really do have him wrapped around your finger. How could he, an Adeptus, a Yaksha no less, end up falling for someone so lively. It was refreshing to be around you, and he just couldn't be mad at you, despite your terrible attempts of joking with him. "Sure, we could light one if you so wish. But what would you wish for?"

"Aren't you not supposed to tell others what you want to wish for?" Smirking, you spoke again before he could respond. "I'd like to be with, to the very end. That would be my wish."

Both of you gazed into distance again. You felt Xiao's gloved hands brush against the back of your hand. Understanding the gesture, you scooted closer to him, intertwining your fingers. Usually, the Adeptus would be too shy to initiate such gestures of his own will, so he would use silent gestures and make you initiate the actual thing.

"We should head back soon."

"Yeah... uhm yn?"

"Hm?"

"May I..."

You let out a small smile as you cupped his cheeks. At such gestures from you, even the stoic Yaksha couldn't help but smile softly. He gave you a small peck on your lips, but out of his own embarrassment, he didn't let that moment last even a second longer. When you hugged him, he let you. Making no effort to hug you back or push you away. He just stroked your back and played with your hair.

Maybe, going back to the Inn could wait, just to let this moment last a bit longer.
