Im like...8 episodes into BNHA and I already wish Bakugo death
-I relate to Midoriya a LOT like holy shit. -The show is drawn very well. -I’m not loving a lot of the hero outfits. Like, I get Momo’s quirk needs her to have skin revealed but her outfit is just...horrendous. -Our main three (Iida, Uraraka, Midoriya) are the most well designed in terms of character and Hero outfit, which I guess is good. -Todoroki BETTER be important later cause Yin/Yang aesthetics are my shit. -Mineta will die by my hand. -Going back to hero outfits, where the FUCK is Hagakure’s?? WHY IS SHE JUST NAKED. -Bakugo is the worst character in the show, but I’m sure someone will top him. -How the FUCK did some of these kids pass?? Like, Hagakure’s only ability is that she’s invisible. How...did she kill robots with that? Or Koda, where their animals in the mock battle? Or headphone jack girl, how did she get points? I’m really enjoying the show. Not a lot...happens, but the pacing makes it enjoyable to watch anyway. THE FIGHT SCENES ARE SO WELL DONE. The music is great too. Can’t wait to see more!

All an Act
All an Act by itzcreati
Kairi's the only person Itsuki would let get this close to him, they know that, the audience knows that. It makes the scene richer than any they've shared before.
It's meant to show that Bakugou's character is finally letting his guard down for someone, that he finally allowed himself the pleasure of a close friend and he shuts his walls for the very same person. It's a step towards the beginning of his character development. He's growing from the reserved student he used to be.
Something about the scene and how it's captured seems more than that, though. There's a familiar atmosphere lingering in the air. There's Chemistry.
Something clicks in that moment as he watches it over, Aizawa turns to Toshinori.
"Scrap everything we had before, I have a new plan."

Significant Changes to Kyotsuki’s Lore
So, because the story is still in early development hell, here’s some neat factoids about some of the cosmetic changes that characters have undergone.
The Family
Kyotsuki’s name underwent major rewrites all the time. In the oldest material I mentioned her, I referred to her at Itsuki, as Itsu meant to strike or hit, which seemed in line with her bare bones personality at the time. Originally, I was only considering words that naturally have a -tsu character or sound to them to fit the -tsuki pattern of her family name. A later name decided on for her was Utsuki, as Utsu means to shoot or strike, better reflecting her bullet based quirk. I think I actually stumbled across the Kanji I ended up settling on for her name on accident while trying to find a way for her name to mean something along the lines of “standing on my own” or “raising myself higher”, and it was sheer dumb luck that the kanji in the first syllable of her name was so versatile and the words associated so perfectly matched with the ideals and outlooks of her dads that I just knew it was the perfect name for her. Her quirk however was always set in stone, that being her turning her hardened sweat into ammunition.
Akume’s name also underwent a lot of changes. One of his earliest names was Kuyume (苦夢) meaning ‘pain’ or ‘hardship’ and ‘dream’, which I saw as more eloquent than Akumu (悪夢) meaning ‘nightmare’. I just never liked the sound of Akumu as a name, it felt a little too gruff and unpleasant. The reason it was changed was after I fell in love with the name Kyotsuki, and I feared the names both starting with K could potentially cause confusion. Akume is in fact adopted, and his birth name is Akume Shimiru (死見る) which means “to see death”, in referrence to the horrifying things he can make people see. The creation of this character was actually inspired by a fanmade comic, though I don’t remember where I found it, so sadly I can’t source the comic that inspired the character. However, while considering adoption, the comic featured a little boy who could pull bombs out of his nose, and this quirk terrified most parents, but just made Bakugo smile and he wasn’t afraid of the kid and it was just so sweet and cute seeing how badly that kid needed someone to not be afraid of him, which sparked my imagination in creating a character who can’t control his ability to create nightmarish images. Side Characters The character Haridan was removed in order to add Nijiiro Kakuchu, taken from 虹色 角柱 (niji iro kakuchuu) meaning rainbow-colored prism. This change was made as Haridan was a very filler character who only existed on the idea of her quirk. She was also just kind of a gender swapped version of Hidan from Naruto, and I felt I could be more original. Then while writing chapter 1, I had originally planned for Kakuchu to be the proctor for the first exam, but then I created Mr. Ayatsuru, and I felt that he was better off as the exam proctor and since their quirks were so similar, I decided to turn her into a student instead, taking Haridan’s place.
The character formerly known as Kujaku Teidanshi had his last name altered to Ninkisara, taken from 人気をさらう (ninkiosarau) meaning to steal the show, to upstage, or to capture all the popularity. The original intention of his character was that the more eyes that were on him, the more his amorous advances would be debilitating for opponents, as people would want to obey his every charismatic word. However, this quirk idea never made it even to the post, but the name didn’t change with him when he got here, so I figured his name should be altered to reflect his quirk, that is, someone who strides to be the center of attention because it’s good for his quirk. Also, because someone had requested it, and I had no idea how to merge their quirks, he’s the adopted son of Yuga and Neito Monomoa, though he did not take their last name. Though unlike Yuga, he has a decent skill at speaking French.
Rikiba Hogoku is a reworked version of a character from another story I wrote and is also an expy of Hinata Hyuga, as I loved her character and the kinds of arcs she could have had with more focus. However, her core character has remained the same since the original character I imagined. Shy, lacking in self-confidence, and being thought little of, I wanted to explore the effectiveness of seemingly underwhelming powers, which is why I’m so excited to see her as one of the core characters of this fanfic, i’d say of about Tsu or Kirishima level importance to the main cast. Big name, but I think the Bakugo siblings and Midoriya twins have the focus pretty heavily set on them.
Kerohiko, the daughter of Tsu and Uraraka, was probably my least favorite offspring oc for the series. I just couldn’t think of any interesting ways for their quirks to come together, and that was a major let down. Originally I tried being a little more inventive by making her a flying frog that could literally float or fly through the air, but I decided I didn’t really care for that approach. So instead, I essentially gave her both Tsu’s mutation and Uraraka’s quirk, and just added gliding wings to her hero costume to keep in theme with her name, inspired by the Japanese word for a Flying Frog.
Naride Yaoyorozu probably had the worst name of the group. I hated what I originally named her, and even the direct translation wasn’t something I was particularly proud of. Then I came across the word 作曲家 (Sakkyokka) meaning ‘composer’ and it felt like such a great fit between music-loving Kyoka Jiro and high society heiress Momo Yaoyorozu. She can be addressed as Sakki for short.
Mangekyo Mirio has had his name changed as well. Originally named to mean ‘kaleidoscope’ due to his form being in constant shift, I won’t lie, he was just named after the Sharingan variety, and I quickly decided it wasn’t a good fit for his name. So it’s been changed to Shindofuji (身土不二) which is the Japanese equivalent to the phrase “you are what you eat”. He goes by Shin for short. His quirk was actually inspired by the powers of Kevin Levin in the Ben 10 Alien Force cartoons, as I loved the idea of someone being able to change their body into different materials. It also seemed like a fitting way to blur the lines between his two fathers’ quirks.
In case you only saw the original teacher listing that has since been deleted, Shokya Aizawa the daughter of Erasermic and Kosei Todoroki the son of Hawksdeavor have since been added to the staff. Shokya is the head of security, and Kosei is the homeroom teacher for class 1-A.
In an original post I have since deleted, the original teacher of class 1-A was going to be Korai Kyubiko (古来 九尾狐) a kitsune inspired character with fire and illusion based abilities. This character was actually also a carry over from an older story. The same one as Hogoku surprisingly. However, when I created Kosei Todoroki aka Phoenix, I felt like he had more to offer as a central character, so I decided to remove Kyubiko from the school staff for right now. That’s about enough secrets and updates for now. I hope you guys find these little behind the scenes updates fun. I know I do, and I look forward to the release of chapter 2: What We Fear Most

“Family” Bakumomo Fic Part 10
Chapter 10 of my BakuMomo Kid fic
Available on AO3
Chapter 10: Epilogue
Momo’s twenties were unlike many people’s young adult beginnings. Adopting her son and getting married right after highschool came as a shock to many. Yaoyorozu Momo, that really put together rich girl? Many believed she’d put her career on the shelf while she got Itsuki’s life with her and her husband together. This was far from the truth.
Creati was a huge success, having worked at many Hero agencies doing field work and missions before settling in and being able to create her own agency with her own sidekicks! She’d even begun apprenticing and interning several students of her previous school. As an alumni of UA she was more than pleased to further their educations, after all.
Katsuki and her were #2 and #4 hero respectively. He certainly got her beat when it came to applicable hero work, and he was definitely popular with fans giving him that extra boost. But they were both within the top 5 and couldn’t be prouder of each other.
Many people questioned Katsuki’s decision to leave Best Jeanist’s hero agency in order to join Creati’s. After all, he was the higher ranking hero, wasn’t he? Didn't matter. He knew Momo was extremely capable and that he and plenty of other heroes would be in good hands with her in charge.
Besides, this gave the young couple excuses to be near each other and to spend more time with each other on a day to day basis. Their classmates, after their initial getting together, had been overjoyed and thrilled with the development only to find that the two were lovey dovey and saccharine sweet. Not that any of them minded too much, as the two of them had immense self control when they needed to.
Upon first graduating, the two had managed to enlist Aizawa’s help in advocating their official and permanent adoption of Itsuki. The offices had never found his birth family and no one had ever come looking for the young boy. Thus, his only other option was foster care, and Momo and Katsuki were not about to let the young boy ever go through that.
They continued helping him further his education and train his newly developing quirk. They found out that it was a booster quirk, which made him excellent for support. Not that they’d ever encourage bringing the boy on the battlefield, but his young dream of becoming a hero hadn’t quite dampened… If anything, having two parents in the Top Ten only made one want to be a better hero.
Itsuki was overjoyed when his parents announced they were getting married for real and that they were going to be a family forever. He’d never wanted to think about any other possibilities, and he was so glad he’d never have to face that. Katsuki and Momo couldn’t help but let tears of their own out as the young boy sobbed with happiness at the aspect of officially taking the Bakugou-Yaoyorozu names. The three cried together at the prospect of finally being an official family after carrying on so long the way they had been.
Being married with a seven year old child right out of high school was difficult, needless to say. Katsuki and Momo had much help from both sides of their family; the Yaoyorozu’s making sure they’d never have to scrape by, at least. They’d been somewhat cautious about the young child originally but quickly warmed to the prospect of having a grandson.
Katsuki’s own parents were thrilled with the announcement of the relationship and the marriage. Hanae and Mitsuki quickly became best of friends, closer than Katsuki had even imagined possible. As if they were meant to be in-laws by fate or destiny or whatever it was.
They waited until they were 23 to try for their second child. Itsuki was 11, about to turn 12 by that point and was already vastly more mature and educated than when they first encountered him. He was a great help throughout Momo’s pregnancy and buzzed with excitement whenever his new little brother or sister got mentioned.
Little Mirai was born and the young Bakugou-Yaoyorozu’s never felt more blessed. Katsuki had fallen in love a third time - once after meeting Itsuki and after realizing his feelings for his wife - as he stared into the soft blue eyes of his baby. They were bound to shift into a light brown color as she grew out of being newborn, but she had a shock of light blonde hair. He and his friends were certain her first word would be “fuck”. There was a bet pool going around too…
Despite certain worries about her… father’s particular use of language, she was a perfect little baby and Itsuki was a god send. Momo didn’t think they needed more than two, and Katsuki couldn’t agree with his wife more. Itsuki would come home from school and relinquish all of Momo’s motherly duties onto himself until his father got home from evening patrols.
Hero maternal leaves were an intensive occasion and Momo found herself itching for the action again. She went right back into office work in managing her agency, and it was rather amusing watching Yaoyorozu Momo walking about the office barking orders with a baby sling across her front and a blonde baby girl babbling incoherently, as if to mimic her mother.
Katsuki’s relationship with Midoriya got even better, and Uncle Deku and Uncle Eiji had very strong presences in the lives of both children. With Midoriya teaching at UA now, he informed them that the school was keeping a very firm eye on Itsuki’s progress and felt confident that the boy could get in on recommendation, just like his mother. He’d even confided in Katsuki that he felt Itsuki could possibly be a good apprentice and successor for One for All some day with the immense amount of control the young boy was able to obtain over his quirk. And while this made the two young parents somewhat nervous, they knew not to worry.
Katsuki and Momo had very different ideas of what a family could be, when they were younger. What a family was supposed to be. But, now, cuddled up on the couch with his beautiful wife wrapped in one arm, an energetic, bright almost middle school son on the other arm, and their little girl across their laps… this is what family was. This was home.

Bookshelf Briefs 8/6/19
Dr. STONE, Vol. 6 | By Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi | Viz Media – So it turns out that the current non-turned-to-stone population are all descended from Senku’s dad and the rest of the crew of the space shuttle, which is honestly more about Byakuya’s faith in his son to eventually save the day even if it takes hundreds of years. Back in the present, Tsukasa and the followers that he’s amassed are planning to invade the village and destroy what Senku has accomplished, but little do they know that Senku has the power of RIDICULOUS SHONEN SCIENCE on his side. The best thing about this volume is that we’re starting to see the non-Senku cast actually come up with inventions—the water wheel revelation was great, and Senku knows it. Dumb fun, masquerading as smart fun. – Sean Gaffney
Farewell, My Dear Cramer, Vol. 1 | By Naoshi Arakawa | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Midori Soshizaki and Sumire Suo played girls’ soccer for different teams in middle school, but Soshizaki is so taken with Suo’s play that she volunteers to go to whichever high school Suo chooses. Suo, accustomed to being the only one really trying on her team, feels kinship with another girl on a lousy team, and so she and Soshizaki both end up at Warabi Seinan, whereupon a couple of other talented players show up along with a new coach, since the current one sees no future in girls’ soccer and isn’t interested in doing his job. This was a pleasant start to a series, but the soccer action isn’t as easy to follow as in other titles I’ve read, and it quickly veers away from the two leads to focus on another teammate. I’ll definitely keep reading, though! – Michelle Smith
Love in Focus, Vol. 3 | By Yoko Nogiri | Kodansha Comics – I had forgotten that this was a series that ended in three volumes, but I would have remembered anyway given the rapidity with which Kei and Mako get together and just as quickly break up. “Let’s date first and fall in love later” rarely works in shoujo manga, especially when you’re the blond, who almost always loses out to the brunet. That happens here as well, as dating Kei does help Mako realize her feelings—for Mitsuru. That said, though the plot beats were very predictable, I thought Mako and Mitsuru’s dialogue was sweet and pure in a shoujo sort of way, and I also liked how the “stalker” plot was resolved. As with the author’s previous series, this was decent but not good enough for long-term. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 20 | By Kohei Horikoshi | VIZ Media – I’m sorry to say that I just can’t muster up much interest for Gentle Criminal and La Brava, the villain and his acolyte who get in Midoriya’s way when he’s trying to get back to campus in time for class 1A’s performance at the school festival. Once their fight is finally over, though, it’s time for the feels. The focus on Jiro here is pretty brief, but oh so welcome, and that two-page spread of her smiling so radiantly while performing is incredible. And then, just a few pages later, there’s Mirio who is suddenly moved to tears because Eri, the girl he sacrificed so much to save, is having the time of her life. I love Mirio and Eri together, and I also love Aizawa rushing to be with Todoroki when his dad, now the number-one hero, is injured on live TV. Plus, there’s Hawks! This volume has much goodness. – Michelle Smith
My Hero Academia: Smash!!, Vol. 1 | By Kohei Horikoshi and Hirofumi Neda | VIZ Media – I’m not really a gag manga sort of person, so I didn’t expect much from My Hero Academia: Smash!!. But despite the warning from creator (and Horikoshi assistant) Hirofumi Neda that it was going to be crude, I actually thought it was quite fun! It follows along with the early events of the main story, up until the first attack by the League of Villains. Often, familiar scenes are subverted in some way, like All Might’s “you can be a hero” moment turning into a sales pitch for vitamins, but sometimes they’re expounded upon in genuinely intriguing ways, like showing how Yaoyorozu used her quirk in the fitness tests Aizawa devised. (I also liked that her classmates now prefer Yaoyorozu brand erasers.) Also, I think one panel features a tiny puking Jesus. To my surprise, I’m looking forward to volume two! – Michelle Smith
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 5 | By Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court | Viz Media – This volume definitely felt like the fifth book in a four-book series, a constant danger when something gets really popular. Knuckleduster’s plot is resolved, and so he very pointedly, with one or two exceptions, withdraws from the series. Instead we see Pop Step and the Crawler trying to be vigilantes on their own and rapidly coming to a realization, which is underscored by licensed heroes yelling at them—they’re not powerful enough to do much more than get in the way. That said, I did enjoy seeing Midnight in her “casual” clothes, and the kid singers were very cute. A series that has turned a corner but not yet hit the next long straightaway. – Sean Gaffney
My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, Vol. 1 | By Satoru Yamaguchi and Nami Hidaka | Seven Seas – The manga adaptation of one of my favorite recent light novels didn’t have to go very far to impress me, just adapt the novel as well as it could. There’s obviously stuff that’s cut to fit (Katarina’s parents’ relationship gets a one-panel explanation), but it handles introducing the main cast well, and cuts the “alternate POV” parts which would have made the manga repetitive. Best of all is the prose short story at the end, seeing Katarina having a nightmare about the villainess her otome game self is supposed to be, and the bad choices that she makes which our Katarina can’t stop her from despite yelling inside her head. Definitely get this if you like the novels. – Sean Gaffney
The Quintessential Quintuplets, Vol. 4 | By Negi Haruba | Kodansha Comics – This is moving at a galloping pace for a romantic comedy, especially one with quintuplet heroines. There’s the bad—Ichika pursuing her dream would mean leaving school, which would mean Futaro losing tutoring money—and there’s the worse—various people getting bad, bad colds due to the weather and circumstance, which leads to a mass search for Itsuki and a bedside vigil for Futaro, whose cold of course turns out to be the worst of all. We also get another flash forward reminding us that he does eventually marry one of them, but continuing to not tell us who. Don’t expect that to be resolved till the final page of the series. For fans of harem comedy/dramas. – Sean Gaffney
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts, Vol. 6 | By Yu Tomofuji | Yen Press – Anubis has finally given in and allowed a trial period for Sariphi to be Queen Consort. Unfortunately, we then see the problems that this causes, which is that the majority of the populace still isn’t ready for a human girl as the Queen. Fortunately, Sariphi is made of pretty stern stuff, and even when she’s down there are folks who can cheer her up. This allows her to resolve the fractured relationship between a mother and daughter, as well as give Amit the courage to give a token to her beloved Jor, even though as a soldier he may not be able to return that love. Honestly, this does continue to remind me a lot of Fruits Basket, but that’s not especially a bad thing. – Sean Gaffney
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san, Vol. 1 | By Honda | Yen Press – My first exposure to Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san was through its anime adaptation. I’ve not actually watched the show, but I’ve seen enough screencaps of the titular skeleton dramatically reacting to a wide range of customer service exchanges to reasonably expect that I would love the original series. And, after reading the first volume of the manga, I can definitively say that I absolutely do. To a large extent the manga is autobiographical, based on Honda’s experiences as a clerk in the manga department of a large Tokyo bookstore. It provides entertaining insights into the life of a bookseller, showing the challenges presented by customers, publishing schedules, corporate management, and just trying to keep the shelves appropriately stocked. This could be rather dry as a subject, but in Honda’s hands the portrayal of bookselling is delightfully humorous, intense, and over-the-top in a way that is both engaging and still incredibly honest. – Ash Brown
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san, Vol. 1 | By Honda | Yen Press – I’ve seen the first few episodes of the Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san anime and this is going to be one of those rare occasions where I have to admit that I kind of like the anime more than the manga. Certainly, Honda-sensei depicts the bookstore (specifically its manga department) as a place way more hectic than I ever anticipated, but that frenetic energy (and the kookiness of his often-foreign customers) just translates better to the animated medium, I think. That said, this volume has a lot to recommend it, particularly if you want a glimpse of what Japanese booksellers think of the global readership manga has obtained. Read it, but maybe watch it, too. – Michelle Smith
Waiting for Spring, Vol. 11 | By Anashin | Kodansha Comics – I’d long been wanting more basketball in Waiting for Spring, and I finally got my wish in this volume. The latest tournament has begun, and if the Seiryo boys want to repeal the no-dating rule, they have to win. They make to the finals league, where they’re up against Aya’s team, Hojo, and though Seiryo ends up losing, there’s still hope due to the structure of the tournament. Aya realizes his kind of love expected Mitsuki to never grow or change whereas her love for Asakura inspires her to try new things and set goals for herself, so he seemingly steps aside though he does talk about returning (he’s apparently moving back to American) once she’s grown up. Anyway, this is a cute series that I like a lot and though I don’t expect many surprises from its final two volumes, I nonetheless look forward to reading them. – Michelle Smith
