As someone who is enjoying reading fanfics and used to write some short horror stories and also fanfics back in the days, I'm thinking of starting to post some here. I never actually tried to post my writings, I always was shy and insecure about my work, but lately I was thinking that no one who knows me irl knows me here, so maybe I won't be judged about some stuff and that I don't have to be afraid of anything.
I used to have a great muse companied with my imagination, but when I started university all this just disappeared. Since I graduated I felt like I have no will to do anything. I didn't want to write, draw, listen to music or even watch my favorite shows and movies. Maybe I was in some kind of depression or something, I never went to a doctor anyways so I don't know. Sometimes I feel the same way even now, everything looks pointless and I just don't want to do anything.
Anyway, enough of my boring blabbing. I hope you enjoy my stuff, aaaaand that's it.
P. S.: I forgot to introduce myself 😂😅 (If you're interested read below:)
My name is Gerry. I'm 29 years old (yea, I know I'm old, spare me pls! 😂), and I'm going under the pronounces of She/Her.
Interesting stuff for me:
* I'm from Europe and English is not my native language (so excuse me if I make some mistakes in the future😅 also I will appreciate it if you can correct me when I do so, so I can take some notes to not make them again 😁)
* I really love stuff that helps me escape from reality- music, movies and tv shows, books, writing, video games (not the bad stuff that people sell in the dark alleys, if you thought about them 😑 I'm not that kind of person)
* I'm a cat and a wolf lover (yea, I love dogs and other animals, but cats and wolves make me feel so peaceful and calm. I guess you can say that they're my spirit animals. ☺️)
* I'm a metalhead so don't be surprised if you see some songs mentioned in my writings. My favorite genre is Metalcore. 😁🤘🖤
I guess that's it for now. If you have any questions you can ask me anytime. ☺️
Bye for now! ☺️🖤

Summary: Spencer thinks Y/N is an innocent, naive girl until a case reveals her extracurricular activities.
Spencer had been back from jail for 2 months when he first met her.
At first he didn’t think anything of her, other than the faint smell of vanilla and daisy as she walked past him in the bullpen and the bright smile that seemed to take up half her face. She was carrying files close to her chest like a schoolgirl late to class and the skirt of her white dress bellowed softly behind her as she made her way to Emily’s office.
“Who is that?” He had asked.
Luke looked up to where Spencer’s gaze was. “Oh, that’s Y/N, she's a tech analyst helping Penelope out right now. She’s sweet, you’ll like her.”
It doesn’t take Spencer long after that to decide he, in fact, does not like you. There was nothing wrong with you. Luke was right, you were sweet, almost sickeningly so. It was like you had no concept of reality. You lived in this world of all sunshine and good things despite the horror that crossed your screen daily. And while Penelope was the same, she at the very least knew how bad the world could be and chose to see the good in it. You didn’t, it was like you’d never had a single bad thing happen to you. And Spencer, who had been dealt the bad hand so many times in life hated that.
It also didn’t help that you were gorgeous too. You looked like an artist sculpted you himself to make the perfect woman. Real People weren’t supposed to look like that. Real people were supposed to have flaws and blisters. Real people were supposed to look tired so early in the morning not fully awake and smiling while handing everyone in the office a coffee. He didn’t understand how you could be real.
“Here you go, Spencer. Americano lots of sugar.” You said, placing the coffee on his desk.
“Thank you.” He mumbles.
“We have a case, by the way.” You giggle, going off to hand Luke his coffee before walking away to the conference room. Spencer was barely able to keep his eye roll at bay.
Luke sees that and laughs, clapping Spencer on the back. “Come on, kid. Play nice.”
“She’s giggling about a murder case.” Spencer grumbles before following him into the conference room.
“3 women have been murdered in Queens. Judging by the scars, they were all bound and strangled before finally being dumped in an alley.” Garcia says, as she goes through the slides, showing the crime scenes. “Police need our help finding the connection between these three women because right now, it looks like there is none.”
“I’d say.” Tara speaks up. “We have a waitress/student, a doctor, and a paralegal. All living in different areas of the city with virtually no reason to interact.”
Spencer looks down at his file, examining the picture when he notices something. Just as he opens his mouth to say something, you clear your throat.
“Umm, Emily?” You say from your seat right across from Spencer. Emily looks up inquisitively at you. “I think I know what connects them.”
“What’s that, Y/N?” Emily asks, raising a brow at her.
You clear your throat again. “Victim #2, Rebecca Belfront, has a Padlock collar necklace on in her second picture. That’s typically used to indicate she’s a submissive with a committed dominant partner. But she wasn’t wearing it when her body was found which makes me think that that relationship recently ended. That made me look at the marks on their arms. While there are some new ones from the murders, they all have faded marks around the wrist and body as well. Leads me to believe the bounding was er-... consensual. We should probably look into New York’s BDSM scene.” You close, smiling awkwardly.
Spencer looks at you in shock. He, of course, had come to the same conclusion you did and had been about to say that but he, at least, knew why he knew that. Why did you know that?
Emily hummed thoughtfully. “It’s worth looking into. Do you mind coming to NY with us? Your insight might be needed.”
You look kind of shocked at that but nod. “Of course, whatever I can do to help.” You say, softly.
“Great, Wheels up in 30.” She says, getting up, effectively ending the meet. Spencer watches you speed after her, files in hand to ask some more questions. Spencer’s walking back to his desk when Luke catches up with him.
“Y/N has a dark side. Who knew?” He says, smirking.
“Probably not.” Spencer muses. “She could’ve just known that. I mean, I  just know stuff sometimes too.”
“Nah, I don’t think so. Her body language gave her away. She was flushing and stuttering sure, but she was confident in what she was saying. Almost as if, she was speaking from experience.” Luke laughs. “She may be all lollipops and candy bars here, but I bet behind closed doors, she’s handcuffs and gags.”
Spencer hums. “Maybe.” He says looking up to watch you walk back across the catwalk from Prentiss’ office. Luke was right though, your body language did give you completely away that you were talking from experience. Spencer couldn’t help but wonder just how much.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
When you arrive in New York, You head straight from the jet to the Police Station in Queens. You fiddle with your thumbs a bit, you are nervous.
“You ok?” Spencer says, from his spot in front of the bulletin board he was setting up. You were supposed to be helping him but you knew Spencer was particular about some things so you let him do it. In fact, there were a lot of things you’d let Spencer do. With you, to you, you weren’t picky. The man was gorgeous enough to make you nervous. With his lean muscles, long, fluffy hair, and large hands, he looked like something that walked right out of a wet dream of yours. Which sometimes, he was just that. You weren’t stupid though, you knew Spencer didn’t think of you that way. In fact, you didn’t think Spencer thought of you in any way. He seemed to ignore you anyway he could.
You look up from your laptop. “Oh yea, I’m fine. I’m just...nervous. I’ve never been in the field.”
“Chances are you won’t be, Emily will probably keep you in the Station if she can help it.” Spencer provides.
“I know, it’s just-- you know what I mean.” You say, Spencer nods before returning to the bulletin board. You stand to look at the map with him. “So, from what I was able to find there’s only 3 BDSM clubs in Queens but there’s only one in the middle of where the three women were found. Place called Cat’s Cradle.”
Spencer hums. “How complicated and unpredictable the machinery of life really is.” You look up at the man, recognizing the quote.
“There is love enough in this world for everybody, if people will just look.” You say back, shrugging.
“You read Vonnegut?” He asks.
“You said that like you’re more surprised that I can read than what I read being Vonnegut.” You say, Spencer shrugs not even denying it. God, he was such a dick sometimes. A hot dick, but a dick nonetheless.
The two of you turn when you hear a knock at the door to see the lead detective coming in to check on you guys. “Just wanted to see how things were coming along. Also see if you guys needed anything?” Though he only directed the question at you with a sly smirk on his face. Men were so obvious sometimes.
“Nope, we’re fine.” You smile although you didn’t want to. “We’ve narrowed down to a couple BDSM clubs so hopefully we’ll catch our guy soon.”
“Wait, you think these girls were…” He trails off. You nod, knowing what he was thinking. “Well, it probably serves them right.”
“Excuse me?” You say.
“Listen, I know what kind of girls go into those kinds of clubs. If they want to be sexual deviants, they can’t be surprised when shit like this happens to them.” He gestures to the board.
“Actually more women are into Dominant/Submissive as well as BDSM relationships than you would think, statistically 85%.” Spencer cuts him off. “These clubs are just commonplace for them to meet like minded people just like you would do in any other club and they should be put on trial after their deaths for trusting the wrong person. If you don’t mind, we’d like to get back to work, Detective.” He says, turning back towards the board. The man nods and leaves shortly after that.
“Thank you.” You say, softly.
“What for?” Spencer asks.
“Come on, I work with profilers and I’m not stupid. I know you guys know about me so thank you for defending me just now.”
“I wasn’t defending you.” Spencer says. “He was making inappropriate comments about victims and we don’t need that outdated way of thinking working on this case. Besides…” He says, eyes flickering down to your lips and back to your eyes. “You’re not the only one with… unconventional extracurriculars.” He turns and walks out after that leaving you watching after him.
What?
------------------------------------------------------------------
After delivering the profile, you find the Unsub, a man named Ivan Parke. The only thing left to do was find the best way to snuff him out. When the team is discussing the next best course of action. It’s then Luke comes up with the idea.
“We should send Y/N undercover.” He says. “She knows the profile and knows the most about the scene.”
Emily nods. “Is that something you’re comfortable with, Y/N.”
You look up. “Oh, um yea. I’d have to find a different outfit but you have to send someone with me.” You say, everyone looks at you confused so you sigh and explain yourself. “If you send me into a club like this, in a foreign place with no Dom, the Unsub isn’t going to be my only worry. Someone’s going to have to play my dominant.”
“I’ll do it.” Spencer speaks up. Your eyes widened, you were not expecting Spencer to agree to it, you assumed you’d be stuck with Luke. Now you’re going to have to spend the night with the man you’d been crushing on since you started working with the BAU as his submissive. Like that wasn’t a dream come true.
“Great.” Emily says, dismissing everyone and handing you an expense credit card for an outfit. You take it and leave immediately, ignoring the sly look Spencer gives you.
You ended with a short, low-cut black leather dress with tank-like sleeves that showed off your curves and left very little to the imagination. As well as a clear pair of platform heels. You pulled your hair back into a sleek ponytail and you topped the look with your own personal leather choker with a large circle knob in the center. It was one of your favorite pieces to wear though you never really got a chance to wear it unless you were going to clubs, which you didn’t do as often these days. It was an expensive piece sure, but so worth it when you got to wear it. You were doing your makeup a little darker then you usually do in the bathroom when Spencer comes in.
“Is this how you typically look on the weekends?” He asks, standing behind you in the mirror. You look up to look him in the eyes through it.
“If I have the time.” You shrug.
“It’s very different. You’re very different from how I thought you were.”
“And how did you think I was, Spencer?”
“Naive...innocent.”
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t have assumed anything about me.” You say, turning towards the man.
“Maybe you’re right… That’s an expensive piece.” He points out pointing to your choker. “Emily’s going to have fun explaining that at the next budgetary hearing.”
“I didn’t buy it today.” You explain. “It’s mine.”
Spencer hums for a moment before lifting his hand to turn your jaw, examining the piece. You can’t help the way your breath hitches at the contact. Spencer was already so close to you and now he was touching you, it was already starting to be too much. Soon, Spencer is hooking two fingers into the circle knob of your choker and he yanks it. Involuntarily, a whimper falls from your lips, prompting a smirk from the man across from you.
“Tonight’s going to be fun.” He says before leaving you in the bathroom in a state of shock.
--------------------------------------------------------
After getting your comms set up by Luke, who tried to avert his eyes from your frame as much as possible, you and Spencer walk into the Cat’s Cradle. Typically you didn’t like the club scene, but you sometimes liked to venture out when looking for a new partner. Cat’s Cradle was definitely different than the other places you had been. Sure it still had the private rooms and the main stage where a scene was happening in front of you but it was a lot more laid back than the ones you went to in DC. Spencer was really enjoying his role too. Probably hamming it up too much because he knew there was a part of you that actually wanted him to. In the end, finding Ivan Parke was easy. He took the bait almost instantly and you were arresting him just as fast.
“Great work tonight guys.” Emily says, when you reach the hotel lobby. “Jet’s leaving at 7AM so make sure to get some rest.” She says, dismissing you.
Now begged a tricky situation because you had almost forgotten you and Spencer were rooming together. As you walked back to the room together the air was thick but both of you were silent. The tension had been building between the two of you since he yanked your choker in the station bathroom. You knew it was a matter of time. The dam had to break.
“You can shower first.” Spencer says. You nod, taking off your choker and grabbing clothes before taking solace in the bathroom. You wanted Spencer and you knew you needed to expedite this. After a much needed shower, you change into your pajama shorts and tank combo. Spencer steps into the shower almost as soon as you leave it. It’s then that you think of the perfect plan. You lay on the bed and spread your legs before slipping a hand down your shorts. You tease yourself at first, rubbing your clit through your underwear while you thought about the events of the night. How Spencer had been so authoritative. How his hand slid to the small of your back and sometimes ghosted your ass as the two of you walked around the club. How he had been so close in the bathroom. The way he yanked you closer. A small moan escaped you as you slid your hand in your underwear. Soon you hear the bathroom door open. Spencer stops short, watching you before leaning on the frame.
“Were you just touching yourself?”
“Yes.” You answer. “Are you gonna to do something about it?”
“Should I? Instead of telling me what you want you decide to act like a brat and do this.”
Spencer moves closer to the bed but doesn’t do anything, just continues to watch you so you decide to give him a show. Moaning loudly as you slide a digit inside of you. Spencer looks at you with hooded eyes. You can’t help the small laugh that leaves you.
“I think you’re going to give me what I want.” You say, smirking.
“And why’s that?” He says.
“You’re already weak.” You say.
“I’m weak, pretty girl?” He asks, incredulously. Before you know it, he’s ripping your hand out of your pants and crowding in the space between your legs forcing you to sit up and look at him. “You’re in here touching yourself to the thought of me like a horny teenager and I’m the one who’s weak? Ok.”  He sits back and pulls you by your hips to sit on top of his lap, your legs straddling one of his thighs. “The only way you’re getting off is on my thigh, ok?” He tells you, starting to move your hips. You moan, nodding your head as the friction makes its way through your core. Spencer lifts your shirt off you and smirks when his eyes land on your bare breast. He leans forward to catch your left nipple in his mouth. Your back arches as you grind harder against his thigh. Your hands fly up to start unbuttoning his shirt when he stops you.
“Did I say you could touch yet, princess?”  He asks.
“N-No, sir.” You stutter.
“Then keep your hands to yourself.” He says, putting your hands back to your side. He does indulge you by taking his shirt off himself. But that doesn’t help you keep your hands to yourself. You saw the lean muscle and craved to mark it up with your nails. Your hands go up to touch him again but he stops you.
“If I have to ask you again, I’m going to tie you up, Princess. Just be good, baby.”
You were already close before but now with Spencer’s hands and mouth everywhere and constant friction on your sex it was damn near pushing you off the edge.
“I’m gonna come.” You tell him, he grips your hips tighter, lifting his leg slightly so he was only rubbing against your clit. That makes you moan out loudly.
“Go ahead, Princess. Cum for me.” He says, and that was all you needed to fall right over the edge. Your legs shake and convulse as Spencer grips your hips help you ride it out.  Soon you come down panting and he’s kissing into your neck. He pulls back and grips your jaw.
“Still think I’m weak, Princess?”  He asks.
You knew it was unwise. In fact, you tried to stop yourself before you did it but it was too late. You reared your hand back and slapped Spencer across the cheek. Not hard enough to be seen as anything malicious but sharp enough to throw him off, like he couldn’t believe you had done it.
“Yes I do.” You say looking him in the eyes after. Something like a switch went off because there was no other way to describe the look he gave you other than feral and fully primitive. He pushes you off him.
“Get on your hands and knees, now.” He says, menacingly. You scramble and run to get into the position. Once in, Spencer forces your knees further apart. He angrily takes his belt off his pants before fashioning them into a makeshift cuff and pulling your wrist so they’re tied behind your back, leaving you face down into the mattress. He slides your shorts and underwear off in one go. You yelp loudly when the first slap comes to your behind. When the second and third slap comes, you try to squeeze your legs together to get some form of friction but Spencer forces your knees further apart. You moan out when you feel a digit slide against your folds. You try to push back on it but Spencer holds your hips in place.
“P-Please.” you stutter.
“What do you want, Princess?” He says, sliding a second digit inside you making you cry out more.
“Please, fuck me, Spencer.” You say, and you really didn’t have to ask twice because almost as soon as you ask Spencer’s hands leave you to finish unbuckling his pants. There’s a brief moment of calm, so calm that you almost think Spencer wasn’t going to give you what you want but that calm is interrupted by Spencer slamming into, no warning. You scream out but that’s only rewarded with your head being shoved more into the mattress to muffle your cries. Spencer’s hands are pulling on your cuffs so he is almost impossibly deep inside you. You moans start to get louder and louder. Suddenly, Spencer is pulling you up so you’re both sitting up, your back against his chest. One of his hands slides to grip around your neck while the other is moving to circle your clit. The hand around your neck tilts your jaw back so you’re looking up at the man behind you.
“Fuck, you feel so good. Open your mouth, Princess.” He orders, which you do instantly sticking your tongue out. Spencer leans forward and spits into your waiting mouth before locking his mouth with yours. His hand squeezes your neck tighter as you moan into his mouth as he starts fucking you faster, his dick hitting your g-spot almost every thrust. It’s not long before you’re just babbling, not even able to string a coherent sentence together.
“You gonna come for me, Princess?” He asks. You nod, moaning loudly. At this point, you knew there was no way the person in the room next to you guys didn’t hear you. You could only hope that it wasn’t one of the team. “Go ahead for me, baby. Be a good girl and come on my cock.” After that, it doesn’t take long before you’re falling over the edge, shaking all the while. Spencer fucks you through it before tightening his grip on your hips to bend you back forwards so your face is back on the mattress. He fucks you hard and fast before falling over the edge himself, moaning your name.
The two of you say nothing as he unties you. When he does, you instantly flop down on your back, breathing heavily. Spencer wordlessly gets up and goes to the bathroom. For a moment you think he’s just leaving you like this, that you were foolish to think Spencer cared anything about you but in that moment he comes back with a wet cloth and ointment. He says nothing as he wipes between your legs before tossing the towel aside. You watch him with a smirk on your face as he rubs the ointment on the red marks the red cuffs made on you.
He looks you in the eye. “What, Y/N?”
“What happened to Princess?” You say, Spencer just looks at you with a bored expression which only makes you smile more. “Now’s probably a good time for you to ask me to dinner.”
Spencer chuckles lightly at that. “You don’t want to go to dinner with me.”
“I’m almost positive I do. Why would you say that?” You ask.
Spencer looks you in the eyes at that moment. “I’m not-Y/N, I’m not like you.”
“Like me?”
“I’m not able to be cheery and smiley. I can’t float into rooms. I can’t be happy like you are, too much has happened to me. You deserve someone happy.”
“Spencer.” You say, looking him in the eyes. “You are not broken. You can be happy, it’s going to take time sure but I’m willing to be with you through that. If you want that.” You say.
Spencer nods. “Ok, Y/N.” he smiles.
“So….?”
He rolls his eyes at that. “What’re you doing next sunday?”
You smile, brightly. “Absolutely nothing.”

(Master Post)
_____________________________________________________________
Masquerade surveyed the classroom. Her former classmates now her masked servants. It was fitting how they were all silent. Before, they listened to her because she told them exactly the things they wanted to hear, now they listened because she had power over them. It was kind of poetic in a way.
She looked across the classroom, she realized that there seemed to be more people missing than she initially realized.
“We are missing someone. Aside from Marinette, who is missing?”
The controlled classmates looked amongst themselves. Trying to figure out who was the one that was not in the class.
“Is it Chloé?” Miracular inquired, trying to answer her master’s request.
The akuma looked around.
“Huh… Oh yea, she isn’t here. Well she isn’t important. I was thinking someone else.” Masquerade answered. She looked to her most recently made akuma servant.
The Bubbler, the akumatized version of Nino stood motionless. As if he was not registering what was going on.
“Bubbler? Do you know who is missing?”
The multicolored akuma said nothing. Not even looking in the direction of the mask maiden.
“Bubbler! I order you to answer me!” She commanded with fiery rage.
The akuma turned to face his master, now responding.
“Adrien is missing.” The bubbler answered, his voice robotic and as emotive as a speak and spell.
“So, Adrien isn’t in the room. What a shame. I was planning on turning him into my handsome little knight.”
Masquerade thought for a moment.
Has Adrien been akumatized? Lila wasn’t sure she had ever seen or heard about him getting akumatized. She knew that the class had pretty much gotten hit at least once or twice at some point from what she had heard and read from the ladyblog. But if that goody-goody Marinette hadn’t been akumatized, Adrien likely hadn’t been akumatized either.
“Alright my servants! We have a new mission. I want you to lock this school down! No one is allowed in or out. Anyone you find, bring them to me. If they can be akumatized, then they are joining our cause.”
“Time breaker. Guard the perimeter outside of the school. Anyone outside of Ladybug and Chat noir trying to get in. Tag them, but only if they are suspicious of what’s going on. Stay hidden otherwise.”
“Timebreaker nodded and began skating out of the room in a rush.
“Horrificator, once Timebreaker is outside, seal all the exits in the main building.”
The masked monstress nodded and sped out of the room.
“Dark Cupid, Stoneheart, Princess Fragrance, Miracular and Reflekta. I want you to split up check all of the rooms and bring me potential akumas.”
The five akuma nodded and made their way out the door.
“Gamer and Robostus. I want you to hack into the airwaves. I want access to every Electric device in Paris when I give you the signal. But make sure to be subtle. I don’t want anyone to know about us until I tell you.”
The two nod and start working to get that ready for her.
She focuses her attention to the bubble making akuma that was giving her problems earlier.
Considering how hard it was to break him down, it was understandable. She had saved him for last for a reason. Because he was the hardest one to crack.
He was a relatively calm individual, able to keep a level head. But even he had his weakness. His confidence. Once that was shaken, seeing his entire class taken, knowing his girlfriend was under her control, he couldn't resist another moment. In a way, it was the most satisfying charm on her bracelet.
“Now Bubbler, you are going to go and locate Marinette and Adrien for me. Put them in a bubble and bring them to me. Help that girlfriend of yours.”
The bubbler nodded yes despite severe shaking. Seems even now he is trying to resist the control of the mask.
“Troublesome, but it is only temporary. He will break soon enough.” Masquerade mused to herself.
She looked at the near empty room with contempt. This was hardly a place where she could exact her vengeance. It was so… lame. Though a thought occurs as she realized who she had left standing at attention without orders.
“Evillustrator, I have a special request for you.”
________________________________________________________
“What is this?” Chloé screeched. “My daddy bought me the best phone plan in the city. How can I not have service right now?!”
The nurse felt a chill run down her spine. Could the akuma block out phone signals? Is that why there is no attention being given to the school? How could they call for help? How would anyone know of the akuma attack? Would Ladybug and Chat noir be able to help them?
The nurse started to feel herself going pale, she was just supposed to be a school nurse. Worst thing she needed to deal with was a scraped knee or give a kid an ice pack. Now she has a woman that collapsed on the bed and an akuma that is somewhere in the school. She had just moved to Paris a few months ago. It was her dream to live in the city of love, get her career going, find a nice guy, and just live the good life. But no one told her that supervillain attacks would be so personally connected to her situation? She had heard about this crap in New York and in America. But Paris? It was too much. What if Ladybug and Chat noir didn’t fix everything? What if this was where her story ended. What if…
“Hey!”
The nurse turned to her attention to the voice. It was the brash blonde teen that was complaining.
“You look like you’re going to pass out. Just a heads up, I am not taking care of you.” Chloé commented.
Angela felt her face heat up with annoyance.
“Listen you brat. I don’t have time to deal with your attitude. I have a woman that is out cold from exhaustion in a building with a hostile akuma.”
“Good, at least you aren’t going to faint. I don’t need any more whinny women fainting on me”
The nurse paused, did the girl say that just to help her not succumb to the grim situation?
Chloé started making her way to the door.
“Hey, where are you going?”
“You already got your hands full with the annoying assistant. I need to make a call to daddy. So, I am going to head out the building and try there. Try not to get ripped apart by an akuma, I still need more ice when I get back.”
Angela blinked. This girl wasn’t scared of the akuma. She was actually going out to do something reasonable. If she could call for help, it would mean that this whole thing blows over.
“Okay, I’ll stay here. Be safe.”
“Yea whatever.”
Chloé headed out the door.
Angela felt a ghost of a smile grace her face.
‘Maybe that girl isn’t a complete brat after all.’

The shapeshifting sentimonster growled as it smacked the locker. It lost both primary targets. And worst of all, Ladybug appeared to make this even harder. Masquerade needed to hear about this.
“Master, Marinette and Adrien have escaped my sight.”
The sentimonster heard a sigh of disappointment from the other end.
“It is fine Simularé, They wont be able to escape the school anyway. They will be found soon enough. If anything, this is a blessing in disguise. Having them be the last targets will have them bare witness to how devasting it will all be.” Masquerade answered. “Any news on Ladybug and Chat noir?”
“That’s the other bad news. Ladybug arrived, I am assuming that’s how Marinette managed to escape, and ladybug also took Adrien away as well. No sign of chat noir. But if you know one is here, the other is likely soon to follow.”
There was a brief moment of silence, as masquerade mulled over the information she had received.
“Actually, that works out well for us. Meet up at my location, I have the other students out looking for them, I need your power for something more important.”
“Yes master.”
Simularé shifted back into its phantom form, moving quickly down the hallway to obey her master’s request.
Just as it left, Ladybug popped out of a nearby locker. Relieved it didn’t notice.
“That’s not good, Masquerade likely got everyone in the classroom.” The red heroine said aloud.
She activated her communicator and tried to contact chat noir. But there was no sound.
“Damn it. No signal. Lila likely cut the communication as soon as she realized it.?”
“No worries Buggaboo, I happen to be on site.” A voice called out.
Chat noir jumped out of another locker to reveal he was there.
Ladybug felt a bit of relief at her partner’s appearance. She could tell he felt the same. Better a situation with two heroes.
“Been here the whole time?” The spotted heroine asked her cat crimefighting comrade.
“Just arrived a few minutes ago, I figured something was up, so I decided to take a quick peek. Cat curiosity and all that.”
“And you assumed it was with Collège Françoise Dupont?”
“It seemed like a solid guess.”
“Considering the track record, that is reasonable.” Ladybug conceded.
“Ever wonder why it is always this school and never any of the other schools? Paris is a big city. You would think Hawkmoth would decide to branch out to the other schools in the city.” Chat noir inquired as they started walking down the hall.
“I assumed its just a coincidence.”
“Shot in the dark, maybe he has a kid that goes here. He is pretty old” Chat noir dissed.
“I can’t imagine anyone that would want to date Hawkmoth.” Ladybug joked.
“What about the blue lady? She seemed crazy enough.”
“And now that image is burned in my mind. Thanks kitty.” Ladybug sarcastically commented. “Despite the mental scarring, I am glad you got here. Seems a repeat offender got herself an upgrade in the akuma powers department.”
“Lila.”
“How did you know?”
“I was reading the ladyblog, Alya did great work on that article.” Chat noir praised. He mentally applauded his quick thinking.
“Right, kind of the reason I felt the need to keep an eye on this place. But sadly, I was too slow.” Ladybug responded a tad gloomy.
“Hey, don’t sweat it. We will finish this akuma before lunch.”
Ladybug heard a footstep from the end of the hallway.
“Get down!”
Ladybug tackled the cat hero down. Just narrowly avoiding a neon pause symbol, which now suck on the wall.
“Looks like Lila has been busy.” Chat noir noted as he turned his face to the direction of the attacker.
Ladybug looked at the akuma. The white mask covering her friend’s face. Lady Wifi was back.
“Alya…”
The two heroes got into a fighting stance and prepared to take down this controlled akuma.
________________________________________________
The halls were empty and lifeless as the two visiting teens made their way cautiously down the halls.
“Oddly quiet in here.” The fencer commented. “What do you think Luka?”
“Well last time we entered a place with an akuma in it, it was brimming with armored minions. Maybe this akuma has more stealth?” The Musician commented. “So, I don’t think you will be fighting as directly as you are use to Kagami.”
Kagami nodded at that, not exactly happy or sad regarding that remark. Her plan was to see if she could help her friends get out of the building, grab her textbook, and get out. She wasn’t really that interested in fighting a superpowered foe at this moment in time.
The two ceased speaking when they heard approaching footsteps.
“Someone’s coming.” Luka noted.
The two duck into the nearest room.
The two stayed close to the door as they listened to the sound of the approaching figure.
Kagami dropped to the floor silently as to check and see if she could get a visual.
She could only see what appeared to be costume boots of a larger figure. Which made the expert fencer believe it was not friendly.
The figure stopped, looking at the door. The two teens felt their neck hairs stand on edge as they did their best not to make a sound.
After what felt like an eternity, the figure passed the door without checking. Once the sound of his footsteps could no longer be heard, they let out a sigh of relief.
“That was way too close for comfort.”
“Agreed. I would prefer a direct confrontation next time, much less nerve-racking. “
The two carefully open the door and exit the room.
“Seems we found the akuma.” Luka commented. “Now we just need to avoid it and.”
“You mean akumas.” Kagami corrected.
“Akumas?”
Kagami tilted the boys head to look in the same direction she was looking, and sure enough she saw a rather large rock like creature walking the halls.
“Oh… well that is bad.”
Kagami pushed him back into the room and closed the door. Locking it before the rock giant could notice them.
“I’m surprised.”
“By the fact there is an 8-foot-tall rock beast outside?”
“No, by the fact you didn’t try to fight it.”
“I don’t have a weapon.” Kagami replied flatly.
Luka raised a brow at the comment, unsure if the fencer was serious or not about fighting that thing if she had a foil.
“Is something wrong?” A third voice came from behind them.
The two teens turned around, preparing for the worst. Though they were relieved to see it was just an old janitor… in a Hawaiian shirt. Despite his odd dress, he did give off a kind aura. One of a trusting old grandpa.
They noticed that the room seemed to be a sort of teacher’s lounge, with a small counter with a sink and cabinets. As well as a fridge to keep food cold and stored. A place in the school where teachers would come to get a quick coffee or store their lunch.
“Oh good, you aren’t an akuma.” Luka sighed with relief.
“An akuma?” The old man asked.
“Yes, it is very dangerous out there right now. There are multiple villains outside. I would recommend staying put while we go out there and help handle things.” Kagami explained.
“Quite bold of you to go out there against those monsters.” The man responded.
“Don’t worry, we will be careful. We just need to make sure we can get as many people out as we can so Ladybug and Chat noir won’t need to worry.”
“Ah, how selfless of you. You both seem quite capable for ones so young.”
“You’re very kind, but we are just doing what we can. Our friends are out there and they need our help.”
Kagami goes to the door. Checking to ensure the coast is clear again.
The old man pats the musician’s shoulder.
“I am sure you two will figure a way to help your friends.”
“There are too many outside this room.” Kagami grumbled. If only I had a way to fight them.”
The mysterious janitor smiled.
“Say… I did happen to see Ladybug earlier.”
The two teens turned their attention to the old man.
“You did?” they asked in unison.
“Yes, she happened to drop something while rushing. Would you two be so kind as to return them to her when you see her.”
The two of them glance at each other and shrug. The old janitor might be senile.
“Sure… We can give it to her.” Luka assured the old man, trying to remain polite.
The old man moves to a closet, where out of view of the two teens, an elaborate chest with the symbol of the guardian’s decorates the top. He quickly gets two smaller boxes and closes the closet.
“Ah! Here they are.”
He hands the two a small box each. Their eyes go wide.
“They seemed important, so I didn’t want to just leave them on the floor. But I have a feeling you two will take good care of them.”
The two teens were engrossed by the boxes in their hands. They recognized them immediately. These were the boxes Ladybug used when handing out miraculous.
“Where did you find…?” Kagami tried to question, but noticed the old man was no longer there.
“He’s gone…”
“Actually, I am over here.”
The teens look in the opposite direction they were looking in order to see him at the end of the room getting a snack from the fridge.
The duo decided that maybe this old guy wasn’t all there after all and figured it would be best to go somewhere and utilize the ‘gift’ they were just given.
“Stay in the lounge where it’s safe okay?” Luka asked politely.
“Of course. I am not paid if I am not working.”
The two teens checked the door again, and once the coast was clear. They both slipped out of the room.
After he knew they were out of sight, the old man chuckled.
“The senile routine works every time.”
“Master, you really cut it close with that one.” A small turtle creature exclaimed as he popped out from the closet.
“The universe works in mysterious ways Wayzz. What are the odds that there would be an attack on the school the very day I decide to hide out as a janitor?”
“Considering the frequency of akuma attacks, very likely.”
“True, but how about running into two individuals that Marinette had picked to be heroes.” Fu followed up.
“That is quite a coincidence.”
The guardian pulled out his phone and noticed he didn’t have a signal.
“It seems I can’t get a signal to notify her of the reinforcements I sent her way. Likely it would be the same on her end. So, it is a good thing I acted in advance.”
Fu moved to the closet where he kept the miraculous.
“I can’t help but shake the feeling Ladybug and Chat noir will need all of the help they can get.
“Don’t worry master, I am sure Ladybug and Chat noir will be successful.
“Let us keep an eye on things. They might need another ally to turn the tide.
________________________________________________________
“I am guessing you are also familiar with what’s inside here?” Kagami inquired as the two stealthily moved in the hall.
“I may be familiar with it.” Luka commented.
Kagami contemplated the statement. She figured out the truth.
“Seems we both have used a miraculous then?”
“It appears we have. Though I am not sure Ladybug will be thrilled that someone knows I have helped her.”
“I understand the sentiment. Though lets simply agree to keep it between us.” Kagami answered. “Friends do keep secrets like that if I’m correct.”
Luka smiled at the comment.
“Your secret is safe with me.” Luka assured.
“As is yours.”
The two found the locker room and quickly moved inside.
“Coast is clear.”
The two opened the boxes and as they did two magical creatures appeared in front of them.
A floating creature with multiple spikes appeared in front of the fencer, while another floating creature that resembled a cobra stood in front of luka.
“It is a pleasure to see you again Mistress Kagami.”
“It’s been too long, Longg.” Kagami smiled. Happy to see her kwami friend.
“Hello Luka, itssss been a while.” The snake kwami greeted.
“Happy to see you too Sass.” Luka fist bumped his kwami.
The kwamis stop and turn to see the other kwami there.
“Does Ladybug know about this?” They both ask in unison.
“We will inform her after. Right now, there is a lot of danger.” Kagami exclaimed. “Ladybug needs our help.”
The two kwami nod and prepare to fight.
“Consssider us accomplissses.” Sass answered.
The two teens put on the miraculous.
“Sass! Scales Slither.”
“Longg! Bring the storm”
The two teens transform into their heroic alter egos.
Kagami shifting into the dragon miraculous hero Ryuuko, and Luka changing into the Snake hero Viperion.
The two stop to glance at the other.
“So, what should I call you.” The snake hero asked curiously.
“Call me Ryuuko. And what about you mister snake?”
“Viperion is what I am going with.”
“Fitting.”
“As is yours.”
The two give a nod of comradery before making their way out of the locker room. They had to go help Ladybug.
__________________________________________________
Ladybug dashed across the hallway, avoiding pause symbols being flung at her by the conniving akuma.
She slid underneath one of the symbols and preformed a daring slide kick to knock Lady Wifi off balance.
While she was unstable, Chat noir charged and used his baton to make contact with her white mask. Believing it was the obvious weak point.
“Got it!” Chat noir exclaimed triumphantly. The strike of the staff knocking Ladywifi a good several meters. Before lying flat on her back.
“Wow, that is a tough mask. I thought for sure that was the weak point.” Chat noir commented.
Lady Wifi stood up robotically.
“There must be a way to snap her out of it. Unless Hawkmoth is learning from his mistakes.” Ladybug hypothesized as she got up from the ground.
“Well I got nothing.” Chat noir shrugged.
Another set of footsteps approaching caught the hero’s attention. The recognized the multicolored bubble maker the moment they saw him.
“Nino… You too?” Chat noir said under his breath.
The Bubble maker used his bubble wand to summon two large bubbles to capture the heroes. Bringing back flashbacks of their first encounter with the bubble akuma.
Chat noir and Ladybug expertly slide between the gaps of the attack, resulting in Lady Wifi getting hit with the large bubbles and being sent flying into the wall via bubble prison.
Chat noir lunged at the Bubbler, his quick pounce pinning him down before he could attack.
“Maybe I can destroy his mask with…”
“Wait Chat noir!” Ladybug called out.
Chat noir paused.
“What if your cataclysm doesn’t free him?”
“And then I am left without the power before a recharge.”
“Exactly. We need to hold off on using our powers right now.”
Chat noir wanted to save his friend. But he knew his partner was right. They needed to conserve their powers before facing Lila.
The Bubbler managed to get the cat hero off of him with a burst of strength. Knocking Chat noir to the ground.
Lady Wifi had gotten free from the bubble attack and was now blocking the other entrance.
Ladybug and Chat noir moved back to back, Ladybug facing the ladyblogger turned mindless akuma slave and Chat noir facing the akumatized DJ.
“Any ideas, Buggaboo?”
“Seems they can’t adapt. They are pretty much mindless slaves. Which makes sense since Lila wouldn’t want them to think for themselves.”
“So you’re saying their movements are simple.”
“Which means they are exploitable.”
Chat noir felt relief watch over him. He knew Ladybug had a plan.
_____________________________________________________
“EWWWW!” Chloé screeched in disgust. The front entrance to the school had been covered in a pink slime.
She wiped her hand on the cleanest section of wall she could find. This was not her day.
“What is with this nasty gross akuma? First, I can’t call Daddy to come and pick me up. I can’t even post about it! How will Ladybug know to save me? Or better yet, get me the bee miraculous so I can help her save the day?”
Chloé decided to try another exit, since she had no plans of sticking around without knowing if she was going to be given a miraculous or not. Plus, she did say she would call for help, and doing that would make her look good in potential hero points.
As she was walking, she bumps into something in the middle of the hall. Which was bizzare since the hall was clear.
“Ouch, right on my bruise. What the hell is…”
Chloé felt her anger shift to fear when she watched as the empty hall now contained a familiar akuma.
“Sabrina?”
The akuma turned to her, her face covered with a white face mask.
“Eww. Your akuma form looks even tacker than before.”
“Take potential akuma to master.” The akumatized Sabrina stated in an emotionless tone. Repeating the order, she had been given.
“Oh no you don’t! Sabrina, I order you to listen to me!”
The akuma ignored the blonde’s command and slowly walked towards her.
“Sabrina… I am warning you. I am going to yell at you over this later if you don’t stop right now.”
Chloé started slowly backing away. She wasn’t sure of what to do.
“Listen… if you stop right now… I’ll uh… let you take a pick of one of my old sweaters.” Chloé bargained, not intending to let her pick one of the ones she actually liked.
Chloé felt her hand touch the sealed door, and knew she was at the end of the hall. She was boxed in.
“This is so unacceptable.” Chloé stated, preparing to get captured. But a flash of Red and Black came out of nowhere and kicked the akuma hard to the wall.
“Ladybug! I knew you would like save me!” Chloé jumped and hugged her savior.
“Im not ladybug.” The heroine spoke.”
Chloé released the hug as she examined who her savior was.
“Who the hell are you?”
Chloé had never bothered to learn the names of any of the other miraculous heroes. She sometimes forgets chat noir’s name.
“Ryuuko.” The dragon heroine stated calmly, almost regretting saving Chloé.
“Did Ladybug send you? Cause it would have been better if she got me to help.”
Ryuuko decided to ignore Chloé’s comment.
“Now we need to leave before she… Where did she go?” Looking at the dented locker that no longer had an akuma lying on the ground.
Suddenly the akuma popped out of nowhere about to strike from above with her tonfa and steal Ryuuko’s powers, but was stopped when a small harp smacked her face.
“She appears to have invisibility.” A voice called out.
The two turn to see the snake hero as he caught his harp on the rebound.
Chloé took a moment to look over the snake hero. She had to admit, he was pretty cute. Not Adrien cute, maybe she would start learning the names of the other heroes.
“Quick thinking Viperion.” Ryuuko thanked the snake teen.
“Just following your lead.” Viperion responded. The two giving eachother a respectful smile. They both seemed to have gotten used to working together.
The akuma got up. Its white face mask making the akuma’s expression unreadable. But its body language exuded rage.
“Seems we aren’t going anywhere until she is taken care of.” Ryuuko said as she stared down the akuma.
Viperion turned to chloé.
“You need to go and get to safety.”
“Okay!” Chloé says as she runs off.
“How come she didn’t give you any sass?”
“Because I already have him.”
Kagami had to admit that was a clever response.
“Not what I meant, but Chat noir would love that joke.”
“I will be sure to tell him it later.”
“Stick to playing guitar. You’re a better musician than comedian.”
Before they could get off anymore banter. The akuma went for another attack.
________________________________________________________
Simularé entered Ms.Bustier’s classroom.
“I am here.” The ghostly sentimonster announced.
“Excellent.”
The sentimonster looked up to see that the classroom it was expeciting to see had been altered into what appeared to be a rather glamourous throne room. The windows covered by white curtains with the design of an akuma in black. The platforms and stairs had been altered to be marble. And at the top, where Lila’s desk once was was now a golden throne akin to something one would see in a castle. Though despite the impressive change in the classroom it was still being designed. The akuma known as the evillustrator was still creating more furnishings for the room.
“Simulare, I have an order for you.” Masquerade stated as she sat on the new throne. Clearly confident in her position.
The sentimonster approached her master. Stopping only a few feet away.
“I want you to create a mirage over the school. Since Ladybug is already in the school. It would be best if you made sure no one notices whats happening here. I don’t need any additional heroes popping in yet. Let’s handle her before making things public.”
Simularé nodded.
“Understood. But what should we do if she…”
“I have everything under control. Just follow my orders.”
Simularé ceased her questioning.
“As you wish master.”
The sentimonster shifted into her Volpina form and headed out of the classroom.
“She is getting arrogant in her power. If things do go south, I will need to step in.” Simularé said to herself. But for now, she knew she had a role to play.
_____________________________________________________________
And that ends part 34.
Seems things are REALLY heating up. Will Viperion and Ryuuko be able to help Ladybug and Chat noir?
Will Ladybug and Chat noir be able to get through to their brainwashed friends?
Will Masquerade's gambit be enough for her to get her vengeance?
Whats Simularé's deal?

Wild Hunt
Eugene isn't exactly well liked by his men, but when they want to induct him into their ranks, he's not going to complain! All he has to do is hunt down a beast that they prepared for this event specifically-
It's Varian. Eugene is accidentally hunting down Varian. Now the two have to survive the night together, while one of them is injured, against a squadron of Corona's best men.
Uh oh.
IM BACK! Kinda. Finals are due Tuesday and I wrote this instead of doing them but WHATEVER WHO CARES
This was mostly written on the Varian Hivemind server, with some lovely inputs from the folks on there, and I edited it and finished it before throwing it up here. So uh. Yea. Team Awesome my beloved
Life and Times and VVO will also be updated soon!!! I hope to have at least one if not both chapters done by the end of the month
ANYWAY HERES 8K OF TEAM AWESOME ANGST
Being Captain of the Guards sure had its perks.
For one, he got to attend meetings with Rapunzel, finally. You'd think being the princess's future husband (probably) and Prince of the Dark Kingdom got him some recognition, but noblemen are jerks and elitists, so what can you do. Granted, the meetings were boring as all hell, but still, it felt like he was actually being respected and taken seriously. Something Rapunzel had been pushing for since the start. Personally, he wasn't all that sure he deserved it, but if she was happy, so was he.
Another was that the guards no longer gave him shit. That's not to say they did before... well, they did. Stan and Pete didn't, but every other guard called him Flynn Rider at least once or twice before begrudgingly accepting him as their teacher and now commander. He no longer had to worry about someone breathing down his back, waiting for him to slip up or commit a crime, eager to throw him back in prison.
Speaking of which...
He turned the corner to see a few guards, couldn't remember their names off the top of his head, forming a small circle around a corner. Their predatory grins barred down on whatever their target was, whichever poor soul had angered them. One of them had his hands on someone much shorter, so short he couldn't make them out beyond the red coats and gleaming gold... which could only mean it was one person.
"Don't get comfy, brat," the one hissed, pushing Varian up against the wall with an audible crack as a skull hit stone, no doubt hoisted up by a shirt collar. "One of these days the princess is gonna get sick of you, and when she does, we'll toss you back into your old cell... and we'll restart our favorite game. Ain't that a swell idea?" Varian hissed, a soft thunk of his boots scrambling for purchase against the wall.
"Hey!" Eugene snapped, having heard more than enough. "Put him down now ." His words were like fire, causing the other two to jump back and reveal the battered and bruised alchemist. His lip was split, a large scuff of dirt on his white shirt.
One of the guards snapped his head around, whacking the leader's shoulder to get his attention. The guard frowned. "Oh yea? Or what?"
Before his new position, he would've leapt into the fray, hackles raised, punching the lights out of these jerks, but now, he had a much better stance. "Or you're fired." He crossed his arms, the perfect picture of a guy in charge who knew how to keep his men in line.
Someone who was clearly not him.
The guard hummed. "You don't have the nerve." To emphasize his point, he shook Varian a little harder, the kid's toes barely scraping the floor and his hands gripping the soldier's wrists. Leather gloves creaked with how tight the pressure was.
But Eugene's glare didn't waver, hand itching for the sword at his hip, his anger radiating in waves. It was enough to get the other two to back off.
"Cmon, Aaron," one whispered. "It's not worth it."
"Yeah, it's not." Eugene agreed. "Put him down now, and I'll lighten your sentence to a week in the stables instead of a month."
Aaron's face turned sheet white, then bright red. With a huff, he dropped Varian to the ground, readjusting his gloves while Varian cried out on the floor.
"You got lucky this time, brat," he hissed.
Oh, he knew that type of speech. The Baron used it all the time. Anyone who got told that never lasted to the next month. "And all other times," he said. "Because if I see you go anywhere near him I'm taking you to the princess."
Aaron rolled his eyes, clearly uncaring, and stormed off with a huff, his buddies trailing after. No doubt they didn't like a criminal ordering them around. Or, ex-criminal. He'd have to keep an eye on them.
A sniffle broke Eugene's musings, the fog of satisfaction and annoyance quickly replaced by concern for his younger friend. Varian sat up, wincing as he did so. He rubbed his neck, feeling for any injuries and finding none except for his ruined collar. "Aw man," he mumbled.
Dad had fixed his collar for him that day, a proud smile on his face. "You need to look sharp for your first day on the job," he'd said, ruffling Varian's hair. They'd grown so much closer in the past few months, the man always seeing his son off. Today was the first day back after his kidnapping, after all; he'd spent a month recovering from a broken rib.
"It's not my first day, I've been working there for weeks," Varian had grumbled, but let him do it with a cheeky grin.
"First day of the week," Quirin rectified, placing a kiss to his baby's forehead.
A forehead now covered in dust and a bruise.
"Hey kid," Eugene offered a hand that Varian gladly took, stumbling a little as he was helped upright. "You ok? Nothing knocked outta place?"
"Just my pride," Varian joked, smile quickly fading. "I'm ok though, really. I'm used to it." He shrugged, hugging himself for comfort. Maybe he could pretend dad was here, hugging him... he always had the best hugs. Even when Varian was little, before they drifted apart. Back when he was just the weird magic kid. Back when his biggest worries were some older kids picking on him... Dad would always scoop him up into a big hug with flowery words and a book of Flynn Rider.
A warm hand wrapped around him, pulling him into a red chest. Eugene took his other hand to ruffle Varian's hair, earning a squawk of complaint.
"Just because you're used to it doesn't mean it's ok, you know that, right?" Silence followed. Gosh, this kid... say what you want about being an orphan, at least everyone around you was on the same boat. No place for bullies, nothing to bully about, when everyone was doing just as badly. "If they ever give you more trouble, you come to me, yeah?"
"Huh?" Confused blue eyes met warm brown.
Eugene smirked. "You say the words and I boot them out of the castle, goggles. Team Awesome looks out for each other."
"Oh," Varian mumbled, dazed. He'd never had a protector, never had anyone looking out for him. Cold sneers and flowery words, manipulation and secrets and ulterior motives, sure. His chest fluttered, a laugh escaping.
But then... the anxiety returned full force, maybe even stronger.
If those guys got fired because of him, good god, he could only imagine the fallout. Well, that's not true. He absolutely could. One time in prison a guard got fired for beating a cellmate within an inch of his life, and though the guy lived, the second he was out of prison he got jumped, or so the story goes. In all honesty it was probably an embellished truth, stretched out to frighten prisoners into silence, but god damn if it didn't work. No one ever complained about their beatings. A peep was all that was needed to spend a night in the infirmary for even worse injuries.
"No, no, it's fine," Varian flicked his wrist. The dial on his hand spun with each flick, the ticking grating. "Besides, we have work to do!"
"Oh, yea!" Eugene gasped. Right! The whole reason he came out to this part of the castle was to look for Varian specifically, after all.
"So, right, maintenance stuff." Varian waved his hand, motioning for Eugene to follow. "Here's what I had in mind..."
-
It was a week later, late at night, when Aaron approached him. The moon lay low in the sky, just bright enough to allow for vision without torchlight, but not bright enough that anything beyond shapes were clear. True to his word, the guard had been stationed on stable duty for the past several days, coming back to the barracks covered in dirt and angry every time.
So maybe Eugene had whispered to Max about him. Big deal.
Anyway, the captain was knee-deep in paperwork when Aaron knocked on his office door. "Sir," he said. "Finished up for the day, and I wanted to talk to you."
"Oh?" Eugene put his quill down hesitantly. Aaron was his first big show of power, the first punishment he'd dished. Everything else had been a variation of "keep doing what you're doing" as he settled into his new role. Who knew being in a position of power was so stressful?
(Everyone. Literally everyone.)
"I wanted to apologize for testing you, sir." The man shifted, eyes never meeting. His face was unreadable. "I wasn't sure you were going to be as..... sharp, as our previous captain. And I'm sorry for that."
"....Ok," Eugene said. "Thanks? I think?"
"So, I uh... wanted to do something for you." The man continues. "Me and a few others. It's sorta a ritual for guards. We didn’t do it before cuz of, yknow, Cassandra and stuff. And you're one of us now, so...?" He raised an eyebrow, a quiet invitation.
Oh boy.
Knowing these guys, it was probably something really stupid. Most of the guards were pretty nice, maybe a bit airheaded, but a lot of meatheads mostly. Big fans of machismo and showing their strength, boosting their ego, stuff like that. It's why none of them were fans of being run by a criminal. And no doubt Eugene would have to clean up their mess anyway, so he sighed deeply and rose from his seat. "Alright, what did you do now?"
Aaron placed a hand to his chest. "Why, sir, we did this out of the goodness of our heart! We're just welcoming you to the team!" He laughed a bit at that last part. He pointed out the door, leading his superior down the suspiciously empty barracks, and out into the courtyard.
About a dozen or so guards were outside, waiting. One of them was holding a horse's reins, and a crossbow.
"He's in!" Aaron called, and the guards all broke into cheers and raucous laughter.
"Yea, nice to see you guys too, uh. What am I... in?" Eugene asked, shifting awkwardly.
Aaron's smile widened. "It's just a fun little game, sir."
"The game is simple, really," Aaron slung an arm around Eugene's shoulder, pulling him close, not unlike how Lance does. But unlike his larger friend, this man is wiry, more of a weaselly kind of build, with stick thin arms that hide his muscle. "See, when someone new joins the guard, we test their skill by having them hunt down a beast in the nearby forest. Once they catch it, we all celebrate together! And welcome him into the ranks!" The guards all cheered, no doubt thrilled at the prospect.
"....right...." Eugene smiled uncomfortably, cheeks pulling and stretching, a puppet controlling the strings attached to his face. His stomach swirled, bouncing all over as he was passed around.
"But see, you're not just any guard, you're the Captain," Aaron's smile took an equally unpleasant demeanour. "So we figured we'd give you some extra... challenge." Outside of their little circle, no sounds could be heard. Not a peep from a cricket, or a cry from a bird, just dead silence in the surrounding glen. Just the crackle of torches, and the rustling of men.
"The beast for this occasion is small, smart, and fast. The goal is to catch it before it reaches the wall at Old Corona. All you gotta do is," he makes a noise with his mouth to emulate the crossbow. "Hit the target, and the rest of us will finish the job."
"Finish?" Eugene echoed.
The guards around him smiled with all of their teeth. "Well yea, we're not just gonna waste a perfectly good beast, are we?"
Eugene narrowed his eyes. If Rapunzel heard about this, no doubt she'd flip. "How will I know what I'm looking for? And why should I even approve of this?"
"Relax, sir," Aaron shook him, patting his chest with a heavy fist. "We're not just killing an innocent creature. It's always something that's been marked for slaughter, or is causing problems. And trust me," his voice deepened. "You'll know."
No horse was as good as Max, but that was probably for the best, what with his gut screaming about how this all felt so goddamn sketchy. "This isn't some trap where it turns out I'm the one being hunted, right? Cuz I don't want to shoot any of you with this," he joked, brandishing the crossbow.
"No, sir, not at all! In fact we'll be supporting you! No one makes the first shot until you do." He promised, patting the horse's flank. "Rest assured, no tricks here. Just a beast already marked for capture. Or recapture, in this case. We picked this one special for you."
"That sounds like it's supposed to be flattering but it really isn't."
Aaron shrugged. "Not my problem. Good luck!" With a smack to the horse, she cried out, spurring Eugene forward.
They rode through the Capital, out into Corona proper, lush with trees. At this time of night, no one would be about, not even thieves, laden in their straw beds and cots. The only things out right now are animals, or a beast, in this case. How is he supposed to know what he's looking for? What, is it going to be some giant thing with red eyes? No, Aaron said it was small, how the hell is he going to...
Then he hears it.
It's faint, almost like a windchime, but sure enough, the clanking of chains, and a small whimper. Somewhere through the trees there's a rustling, something moving. He can't make it out, the guards didn't give him a torch, but a blob of something rushes forward, the only thing he can make out the distinctive shine of metal, a chain reflecting in the moonlight.
Ah.
Eugene smirked, the rush of adrenaline from a chase beginning to pump through his veins. It'd been a while since an adventure without any stakes, without any daring challenges or risking death. The last time must've been... gosh, probably the Herz de Sonne misadventure? And even then he and Lance had just goofed off for the majority of it. Maybe the Spire? That one was much riskier but he and Rapunzel had been so outrageously drunk during that whole endeavor that it felt more like a fun jaunt.
He shook himself out of his reverie. Focus, Eugene! Fun or no, you're proving yourself to the guards! Show them that you're a worthy Captain beyond just barking orders and supporting the princess!
He spurred the horse forward, hooves thundering against the undergrowth and disturbing the leaves below. The beast let out a shriek, shrill and shaking, rushing forward. It weaved between trees, trying to throw Eugene off. Man, Aaron wasn't kidding about how fast it was. Even on horseback he couldn't keep up very well. The chains wrapped around the beast's legs screamed in complaint, clanking and clattering with each huff of its breath.
Eugene lowered the crossbow, sticking his tongue out. Steady... steady.... he fired.
The bolt whizzed through the air, lodging into a tree just a few feet away from its target. The beast flinched but didn't slow, scampering through the undergrowth, leaping over a fallen tree towards the river.
"Hyah!" He yelled, leading his horse over the log and splashing down into frigid waters. Water rushed past his horse's hooves, dulling the sound of chains, and when he looked around, the beast was gone.
Drat.
Eugene grumbled, reloading the crossbow before urging his horse onward. If this beast got away he'd never hear the end of it! They'd be all "Yes sir, Captain! We'll catch that criminal! As soon as you catch that beast!" And then they'd laugh and he'd moan and he'd have to go catch the criminal himself which is honestly not too far off from how it is already-
Anyway.
It took a few minutes to find it again, the beast trying to muffle it's movements by shuffling, but the metal song was too alluring to ignore. There was no time to waste. With the horse at a fast trot, quieter and steadier, he fired the bolt, this time getting much closer, barely whizzing past the silhouette and lodging into a tree trunk with a chunk of hair.
The creature cried out again, beginning to run and renew this dance of cat and mouse, but Eugene wouldn't have it. Dexterous fingers clasped a new bolt and quickly reloaded, giving barely a few seconds for the creature to try and run before firing again.
He didn't miss.
It was almost silent, the bolt's descent. Its tip gleamed in the moonlight alongside the chains keeping his prey in place, the one thing that slowed it and gave Eugene the upper hand. Whatever this beast was was quick, too quick, and if he lost it again, no doubt he'd never find it again. So when he aimed, he aimed down, and sure enough, the bolt embedded itself into the beast's calf, sending into stumbling.
It shrieked, screamed and sobbed in agony, noises bordering on almost human-like as it thrashed on the floor. The arrow stuck straight up, bright color on the end almost a beacon for the beast's location. Poor thing. He really should've just aimed for the head and put it out of its mercy, but this was the only way to ensure a clean shot.
Eugene slid off his horse, crouching low to the ground as he readied the final blow. But as he got nearer, as the moon hung lower in the sky, providing light through the filtering trees. He hesitated.
The beast was crawling, still trying to run, front legs pawing at the forest floor and clenching the leaves beneath with hands.
Hands...?
Eugene's stomach sank, lower and lower with each passing step, heart climbing higher and higher in his throat, the closer he got, the more ill he felt.
He saw the chains first. No, not chains like that on a cattle’s neck. Prison shackles, the kind wrapped around a prisoner's legs. And they were wrapped around legs, keeping strides from being too large.
And their torso.... clothed torso..... The beast heaved, each breath causing it to rise and fall with rapid panic.
The Captain's hands brushed against the tree with his other bolt embedded in it, eyes trailing onto it, and he froze.
Blue hair, stabbed by the bolt.
"No," he breathed. "No no no no no..." His boots picked up the pace, speed walking over to his catch, to his victim. Please, for the love of god, let him be wrong. Let this be a cruel prank, just a bear or deer dressed up to fool him... don't let it be...!
The creature heard him approach and sobbed, flipping itself over on shaking hands to get a better look at its assailant.
There, lightened by the moonlight, chest heaving, tears streaming down his face and blood oozing from his leg, was Varian.
"Varian....?" Eugene whispered, tears of his own budding when his friend whimpered, scooting back and away. With each step forward Varian scrambled back until his back hit a tree, at which point he curled into a ball. Like a frightened animal. Like a cornered beast.
Oh god... this whole time, he thought it was just one of the farm animals marked for slaughter, or a meddlesome woodland critter... he thought it was an animal destined for someone's table, so why not the guards'? Why on Earth did he agree to this? Was he so desperate for approval from his peers that he would simply shrug off the ringing alarm bells, put aside his gut instinct, and dive in blindly?
Yes, his mind whispered. You would, and you did.
"Hey, buddy," He leaned down, inching closer. "Varian, goggles, it's me. It's Team Awesome." His hand shook as he reached forward, but Varian flinched violently, causing his leg to spasm. The boy hiccuped, a hand clamping over his mouth to stifle his sobs. A small mercy came from the shadows of the night, with it too dark for details, Varian wouldn't see the blood rapidly soaking his pants.
The crossbow glinted, a sharp refraction bouncing off frightened blue eyes and causing him to wince. Eugene tossed the weapon away like it burned him.
"It's me, it's Eugene," he reassured, scooting closer bit by bit. "I'm here to help. I'm not gonna hurt you."
"You did," Varian gasped, whole form shaking. "You did."
And that really was the crux of it, wasn't it? At the center of Eugene's self loathing was the spiral of guilt that you shot him, you shot the kid. He trusted you, and you shot him.
"I know," he rasped, trying to keep his voice level. "I did. I'm so sorry. Fuck, I'm so sorry." Varian sobbed, unfurling slightly if only to reach out for comfort. Even if this was the man who hurt him, who hunted him on horse and acted as the boogeyman straight out of nightmares, he was also Eugene, his friend, the one who stood up for him against Cass and Aaron, held his hand and promised he'd be there if Varian ever needed it. And god did he need him now.
Shaking, gloved hands connected in the middle, Eugene's grip gentle but grounding, a careful smile on his face. "That's it, bud. You're safe."
“Aw, ain’t that cute?”
Faster than a bullet, the smaller hand retracted, Varian’s eyes wide and horror-struck. In his attempt to comfort the boy, Eugene had let his guard down. He’d forgotten the final rule of the game.
No one moves until you make the first shot.
They were surrounded.
Aaron swaggered up to the duo with a grin, torch in hand. It flickered and sputtered, illuminating his blinding white grin amidst the darkness. The other guards formed a circle around them. Every other man carried a torch, while the rest had a weapon or tool or rope.
“The Captain has captured the beast! And in remarkable time, too.” Aaron simpered, waltzing up and gripping Varian’s cheeks in his hand. The boy snarled, teeth grit as he stared up at his bully.
From behind them came Aaron’s two buddies, the guards from before, each one wrapping an arm around Eugene’s shoulder, hauling him up and away.
For a moment, Eugene's insides were pure ice, frozen in time, unable to react despite the screaming in his mind as the puzzle pieces failed to connect. They jumbled and sloshed in his mind, the picture only half complete and the rest of the pieces strewn atop, obscuring the image from his view.
"Eugene...?" Varian whispered, thawing him.
"What have you done!?" He bellowed, anger hardening his voice. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?" He strained against the guards.
"Just as we told you, sir!" Aaron mocked, forcing Varian to meet the Captain's gaze. "We captured a beast for you to hunt down! And now that you have," The grin was razor sharp, shark's fangs practically drenched in blood. "We'll dispose of it properly."
A guard from the circle threw a rope, the ends tied into a loop. Like a ring toss, the aim was true, ensnaring Varian's wrist and tightening when he pulled. Another guard followed suit, yanking the boy back and forth till his arms were spread eagle and unable to move.
Varian turned a stark white, paler than the moon that neared the horizon. He cried out, straining to try and escape, but another spasm from his leg paralyzed him. “N-no, please not again…!” He sobbed. “Let me go-!”
"Again!? Varian, what do you mean? VARIAN!" Eugene yelled. "VARIAN!"
The boy screwed his eyes shut, praying for the nightmare to end.
"LET HIM GO!" Eugene strained against the guards, lamenting once again, his own stupidity. He should've brought Max, or an actual weapon, like his sword, or something! He'd gone in totally blind, expecting that the guards were decent people and that this wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. Honestly, he should've known better! After everything he's seen and done, never leave the house without a concealed weapon! You were almost executed by half these assholes!
When he gets back, he's firing everyone except Stan and Pete.
A third rope flashed through the air, this time with a loop larger than the others. It latched itself onto Varian's neck, wrapping tight and close. His eyes snapped open in pure terror, mouth opening in shock. But before the boy could protest or scream, the rope was pulled taut, and his face turned an awful shade of purple. He coughed, thrashing in place with tears of fear and hypoxia trailing his cheeks.
"Aw, the beast is scared! Doesn't he know how all animals are slaughtered?" Aaron cooed, faux sympathy marring his features. "You know, don't you? You were raised on a farm, after all." His question went unanswered, Varian too busy rasping for breath to respond.
The man with the rope pulled harder, forcing Varian's face down into the dirt where his muffled cries barely caused the leaves beneath to move. A steel boot stomped onto his head, and the cries went still.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!?" Eugene bellowed, the protective instincts in his mind going haywire, overheating and exploding with pure rage and an intense need to save him, free him. He let this happen, if he had been smarter, stronger, if he hadn't shot him, hadn't let his guard down, hadn't shrugged and taken the guards' words at face value… “Oh relax, it'll be painless!” Aaron hummed, producing a knife from his belt. “The beast didn’t answer the question, but, I’m sure you can figure out how animals are killed after falling unconscious.” He jokingly slashed the dagger in the air above his throat, and Eugene saw red.
"YOU ARE SO FIRED!" He screeched at Aaron. "WHEN RAPUNZEL FINDS OUT-"
"Oh?" Aaron mocked, turning around and placing a hand to his chest daintily. "When the princess finds out? You're making her do all the heavy lifting?" He sauntered up to Eugene, hips swaying with each step till they were nose to nose. "This is your job, sir. You are in charge of keeping us in line, keeping the prisoners in their place."
"Varian is NOT a prisoner," Eugene hissed, meeting his gaze with pure fury. "He is a friend, my friend, my brother."
"Perhaps to Eugene Fitzherbert, but not a Captain of the Guard." Aaron shrugged.
Eugene lowered his head. For a brief moment, Aaron grinned victoriously. Now he's getting it.
"Too bad for you, I'm both."
Aaron's face fell, the cheerful facade falling into a brutal glower. "What does that mea-"
He was cut off when Eugene slammed his face into Aaron's, hitting the bastard's nose with a CRUNCH. He staggered back, and his buddies loosened their grip on Eugene to see if he's ok. It's all the advantage Eugene needed, quickly pushing them both off him and charging Aaron. His shoulder bowled into Aaron, sending him sprawling, and Eugene only stopped to grab the dagger he dropped before sprinting for Varian's crumpled form.
"Oh sun, please be ok, come on kid," Eugene chanted, slashing the rope around his neck. It leaves a brutal ring of red around his neck, as do the ones around his wrist when they're dispatched. There was no time to remove the chains, what with the remaining guards quickly regaining their senses and gearing up for a fight.
He lifted Varian up into his arms as if he were made of glass. Dark black hair lolled against the Captain's chest as he stood to his full height, glaring down at his employees, the hazers, the conspirators.
There was no hope of taking them all on, that much was clear. Charging into battle with hands full and armed only with a knife was stupid. He'd have to outrun them, play the game, and make it to Old Corona where Quirin could protect his son and he could get actual backup from loyal men.
Perhaps this was the true game, the true test of his worthiness.
Aaron snarled, staggering up while clutching his nose. "GET HIM!"
Eugene crouched, letting the first guard try and charge him before jumping out of the way at the last second. This he was used to, dodging men who wanted nothing more than to hurt and destroy what he held dear, making a run for it to the relative safety of the familiar. He fell into the old routine without too much difficulty, leaping over heads and ducking under blows. It helped that Varian barely weighed more than a few grapes, still a stick from his year in prison. He and the others had been hard at work trying to help him gain at the very least some muscle, though Varian was a big fan of skipping meals for science.
According to Quirin he's had that habit for a while, and right now it was a minor blessing.
Huh, he thought to himself as he dodged a crossbow bolt, taking off into the trees. Captain of the Guard isn't all that off from my usual life, just with some added benefits. Another arrow nearly took off his ear. Yea, same old stuff.
His feet pounded against the forest floor, dredging up leaves and dirt alike as he ran. There was no time to cover his tracks or be discreet, there was a whole battalion after him, so it wouldn't do much good anyway. But as his steps quickened, as Varian bounced up and down in his arms, the chains still rattling, the boy stirred, groaning in pain with each motion.
"Gene...?" He mumbled, muffled through the man’s coat.
"Hey kid," Eugene grinned down, not slowing for a second. "Glad to see you're ok. How's your throat?"
"On fire..." a weak hand pawed at his throat, rubbing the soreness away.
"Sorry about that, you're gonna be just fine, ok? It's all gonna be ok."
Varian hummed, eyes glossy and not fully there. His head fell back onto Eugene's chest, a soft smile full of love that he didn't deserve. "K. I trust you."
Varian fell back into an uneasy sleep after that, his breaths wheezing against Eugene, lips stained blue and face clammy. Anytime exhaustion tried to creep into his bones, tried to sneak into his soul and drain him to surrender, he looked down at Varian and his spirit would renew.
At some point, they were hiding behind a tree, keeping to the intense darkness. A few guards could be heard not too far off, their annoyed mutterings like an alarm bell, a siren's song of false security. Just as they passed, Varian coughed, clutching at the fabric for comfort. It was an ugly sound, weak and ragged, as if there was something coming up.
When he looked down, those blue lips were now stained red.
He picked up the pace after that.
But even he couldn't run forever, no matter how light Varian was or how determined he was. Inevitably he had to stop for water, hiding Varian behind a fallen tree and drinking from a stream whose sounds hid them from view.
He just finished his own drink when Varian stirred, and the Captain was quick to help Varian get some water of his own.
They sat by the stream for a bit, catching their breaths, Eugene from exertion, and Varian from strangulation.
It was here that Varian recounted his side of the story, tears dripping and mixing with the stream below him. "I was so scared..." he whispered, voice hoarse.
"I bet," Eugene soothed, running a thumb over Varian's palm. "What happened?"
"....I got jumped," his eyes turned downcast, shame coloring his features. "T-they grabbed me when I was gonna head home. Said that they wanted to make it up to me, to... to give me "a job befitting my talents"...." He sighed. "You can probably guess what that was, huh."
Eugene's ears burned. A flame simmered in his gut, nausea falling away as his free hand clenched at the leaves below him. "Yea. I can." He bit out.
For a moment, neither spoke, unsure of what to say. What could they say? The situation was insane, it was cruel, it was... it was…
Varian hacked, more blood than before coming up and splattering on the shackles that remained.
"Oh, let me get those," Eugene hissed. "I'm sorry, shit," He fumbled for his pockets, procuring a lock pick and making quick work of the shackles. "We gotta move. We can't let them find us." His hands hovered over the bolt, unsure. "Can I... I mean, you can't run with..."
Varian turned a shade of green, barely visible. “It’s stopping the blood from coming out.”
"Yea, good point, sorry." He coughed awkwardly, the stream bubbling and gurgling a simple melody.
"Why do... why do you keep apologizing?" Varian asked, not meeting Eugene's eye for a second.
"Wh- seriously?" He let out a bark of laughter, fading when Varian's face didn't change. "Kid, it's my fault you're in this mess! Sun above, I shot you. I said I'd keep you safe and I shot you." Anger swelled in his words, but Varian didn't flinch. He knew it wasn't directed at him. "Some Captain I am, I'm being chased by my own guys."
Varian bit his lip. "Did..." he hesitated to ask. If the answer wasn't what he was hoping for, he'd never recover. "Did you know it was me?"
"No!" Eugene's eyes widened. "No, I never would've agreed if I knew it was a person, let alone you!" He ran a hand through frazzled hair.
"So..." Varian hummed. "You shot me on accident, and then saved me. Again. Even when your men tried to convince you otherwise." Each sentence was slow, filled with Varian needed to take in a breath, but he met his friend's eyes this time. "I think that's a pretty good Captain."
Eugene blinked, then smiled. "Thanks, kid."
Dark voices shouted across the clearing, words incomprehensible. Varian jolted, hands flying up before doubling over hacking. Each cough shook his body so hard you’d think the boy was trembling with fright.
“Woah, easy,” Eugene’s hand rubbed over his back. “Deep breaths. Come on goggles. You got this.”
“You would think,” Varian rasped. “But I do not.”
Finally, with one final hack, his coughs ceased. Each gulp of air felt like heaven, or at least it did for the first few seconds. Then it was replaced by a searing hell, leaving him scrambling again.
God, what is the culprit?
As his breathing quieted, as the burn turned to a small simmer, Varian’s eyes trailed to the forest floor beneath him.
Stained with blood.
Varian’s eyes widened, his pupils shrunk to pinpricks as his entire world focused in on the blood. The dark blues of night left it hard to see, more a black shine than the vicious red, but there was no denying what it was.
“What-oooh,” Eugene hissed, grabbing Varian’s shoulders for support. Shit, this was bad. He made a mental list of symptoms for the inevitable doctor visit: raspy voice, struggling to breathe, coughing up blood... all signs pointed to the noose as the culprit. Whichever guard had tried to strangle Varian was getting fired and arrested.
No, screw it, all of them were.
“Focus on me, hair stripe,” he warned, shaking his brother slightly. “Are you ok to move?” All he got was a weedy moan.  “I’m taking that as a maybe.” With no preamble, he scooped his arms under Varian’s knees and back, pulling him into his arms as he stood in one fluid motion. “I’m gonna try and make a run for it, ok? We’re almost to your dad. I just need you to stay with me.”
Silence, and then a faint nod moving against his coat.
Each step sent vibrations up Eugene’s spine, tingling and thrumming in his veins and pounding in time with his heart. The sun would be rising soon, it had to be, with the dew that is forming at his feet.
At some point Varian readjusted, shifting so that he could see over their shoulders. He couldn’t run, couldn’t fight, but at least he could keep an eye out.
And it’s a good thing he did, when he beats wildly at Eugene’s chest in a signal. The captain was about to duck behind a bush, but the forest’s edge is within sight! Maybe if they made a break for it...?
An arrow grazed his side.
The pain looped through his system, joining the adrenaline for a joyride through his mind and it sent him sprawling. Varian rolled out of his arms, collapsing at the forest’s edge.
Eugene groaned, raising his face with the sun to see Aaron’s smug grin glowing in the upcoming dawn.
“Well, look what I caught! A daddy beast and a baby beast!” He said.
Eugene gaped. “Could you be any creepier? Really, gotta go for the weirdest shit to say, don’t you?”
“Eh,” Aaron shrugged, crossbow in hand. He stepped past his boss (Er, ex boss), boots crunching on leaves and leaving nothing but dust in their wake. “I’m a weird guy, I guess.”
“Yea, a real weirdo. Kidnaps a teenager and has the captain hunt him for sport. A nice quirk, ain’t it!” Each word is angrier than before until he is spitting acid.
Aaron doesn’t even argue; he’s too caught up in his victory. Varian shook as he struggled to sit up, arms quivering with effort. Just as he raised his head his eyes met the gleaming tip of an arrow, aimed right between the eyes. “Say goodnight, kid. Don’t worry. I’ll make a fine trophy out of you. Hang your goggles over my mantle.”
“Would you knock it the fuck off!?” Eugene wheezed, scrambling up. His feet gave out near instantly, but he leapt forward, colliding with the guard and driving his aim up. The arrow whizzed overhead, harmlessly lodging into a tree.
“Varian, run!” Eugene yelled, still on top of the other.
“I CAN’T! What part of arrow in my leg don’t you get!?” Varian yelled, immediately followed by coughing.
Eugene went to answer, only for the butt of the crossbow to whack him in the face.
Aaron laughed, loud and manic, the sound like nails on a chalkboard. It was quickly stopped by a punch to his stomach from the furious man above him. If the others found them, it’d be game over. Literally.
Whether or not Eugene would be killed was unclear. While he didn’t always need Rapunzel to save him, her good graces granted him immunity from most local threats. But they’d definitely kill Varian, and that was the bigger concern to him.
Unfazed, Aaron slammed his skull into Eugene’s, sending him tearing back. The guard quickly flipped them, crossbow still in between.
“Face it,” Aaron snarled. “You’ll never be a true captain. You can’t control your men, can’t protect a kid, can’t even protect yourself. You just got the job because you saved the lost princess.”
“In my defense,” Eugene wheezed. “Your previous guard couldn’t do that either.” That only angered him more, digging the crossbow into Eugene’s Adam’s apple.
The two men wrestled briefly, Eugene finally getting a good grip on the crossbow, and kicking Aaron off of him. He scrambled to Varian, fully prepared to scoop him up and begin the dance again, just for a little longer, but Aaron just yelled out in anger, drawing a sword from his belt. As strong as Eugene was, he couldn’t outrun him with Varian in his arms. He would know, he trained his men to match him in speed and strength.
Varian moaned in pain. He had to do something, he couldn’t just sit here! Eugene had spent the whole night running around, working his ass off to keep him safe after the initial mistake, he couldn’t let him down...
But the arrow scraped against his bone, pain sending stars across his vision any time he stood…
The captain’s hands clenched down on wood, eyes calculating. He looked into Varian’s eyes, then down at his leg. Then up again. And down again. He hissed between teeth, kneeled down, and clenched his fist around the arrow. It sent a pulse of pain through Varian’s leg, the boy wincing, but understanding.
“Do it,” he hissed.
And yanked.
The pain was so sharp, so intense, that for a moment Varian was certain he was dead. There was no way anyone could survive with this much pain, he must surely be dead or dying. White hot agony stabbed into his leg, and he bit so hard on his lip he broke skin. It took everything in him not to scream.
Aaron laughed again, shadow blanketing them. Eugene turned to see him looming over them, sword above his head. “Say goodnight, Sir!” he shrieked.
Fwip!
Thunk!
The man’s grin vanished in an instant, replaced by sheer shock at the arrow sticking straight into his throat. Blood trickled down the wound, looking more like an impulse tracheotomy. Suddenly, he pitched forward, face hitting the forest floor with a sickening shick as the arrow went the rest of the way through his throat. There wasn’t even a struggle, no death rattles or cry of pain, just the sounds of a morning dove in the coming dawn.
Eugene’s shoulders slumped, and Varian leaned back into the cool grass.
“You doing alright there, Goggles?” Eugene called.
“My lungs are on fire, I can’t feel my legs and I’m sweating in places I didn’t even know I could sweat. I’d say I’m in the mood to die, but I literally just spent the whole night trying to prevent that.”
“...fair enough.”
-
The weeks that followed were, for lack of a better term, a total fucking nightmare.
After pulling themselves together, the brothers managed to hobble to Varian’s house in Old Corona, just in time to greet Quirin at the door. Imagine the poor man’s shock when he was headed out to work only to be greeted by his son’s blood and the captain’s exhaustion. Suffice to say, they got a proper tongue lashing the whole cart ride to Corona proper, the father fussing over them both while he rushed them to the infirmary. And then they had to get chewed out by Rapunzel, and Lance, and pretty much everyone else, despite their repeated insistence that it wasn’t their fault this time.
“What did you expect us to do? We were being hunted!” Eugene whined at Rapunzel while a nurse cleaned up a cut.
“Uh, I was being hunted. You were hunting me .” Varian hoarsely piped up from his own bed, leg propped up in a cast. He paused at the frantic stop motion Eugene was making, and the paling faces of his father and princess. “Oh. Was I. Not supposed to say that.”
“You’re not supposed to be talking,” Rapunzel chided lightly, though that was clearly not the problem. The doctor had been pretty quick to explain Varian’s breathing issues were just from the throat trauma, and would heal with time and supervision.
“I didn’t know! In my defense,” Eugene held up his hands as if to shield from Quirin’s murderous face, but if looks could kill he’d be a pile of bones. “I didn’t know.”
“How do you…” Quirin pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m going to remind myself that you saved my son’s life and ignore the part where you endangered it in the first place.”
“Yes, please do,” He said, shifting under the glare.
And then came the paperwork.
Trying to figure out who among the guards was part of the hunt was hard enough, seeing as outside of Aaron and his cronies, no one was going to say a word. All they had to go off of were the men who saw Eugene off, and the ones who initially captured Varian. And since they hadn’t run into anyone else directly, no one could be properly accused and charged. But Eugene wasn’t going to take any chances, and therefore anyone who he saw at least once was fired, and if they wanted to dispute it they could come to him and explain why they were willing to throw his little brother to the wolves.
Suffice to say, no one did. Which left Eugene with only two thirds his original squadron. He spent a good while of his recovery vetting new recruits and creating incentives for others to try out, and while he was able to replenish his ranks, they weren’t nearly the same elite task force they’d started with. And considering the threats they faced on the regular, that was a serious problem.
It was after a long day of training and interviews that Eugene finally stumbled into the castle library, ready to destress with a nice long binge read of Flynn Rider. He grabbed a few books off the shelves as he walked, headed for his favorite couch and the cozy fireplace at its side, only to stop dead in his tracks.
Varian lay spread across the couch, foot propped up on the armrest as he glossed over some scientific text that Eugene had no hope of understanding. His eyes flitted up and down the page, clearly not actually reading and more just staring at the words.
“Hey,” Eugene called, and Varian barely reacted. “Oi, kid, that’s my spot. Scooch it.” “I got here first,” Varian said, not looking up for a second.
“Older brother gets first dibs.”
“Little brother gets his way.”
Oh he was gonna play it like that was he? Eugene smirked, plopping his books down at the floor before collapsing directly on top of Varian, making care to not crush the injured leg. Varian squawked in protest, limbs flailing.
“Get off! You’re heavy!” he yelled, trying to push him off. When that failed, he resorted to whacking at him.
“Never!” Eugene laughed. “Your little punches feel like flowers!”
“I have an iron deficiency!” Varian responded, cheeks red but smiling slightly. The captain finally stopped suffocating him, but didn’t get off, instead wiggling in close so they could share. “Mean,” Varian whined, a pout on his lips, but didn’t complain.
“Oh hush,” Eugene chided, grabbing a book from the floor. “You know you love me.”
Varian simply hummed, buck teeth peeking through a tiny grin. “So, what did you grab for today?”
“Ah, glad you asked!” Eugene held up the cover, which Varian oohed in appreciation. “One of the older ones, came out when I was your age.” He wrapped an arm around Varian, pulling his brother close, the warmth of his side and the fire combining to create a heavenly cocoon. “You want to read, or should I?”
“Your turn,” Varian responded, stifling a yawn.
The book creaked in protest, Eugene gazing down at his little brother with a smile. He leaned his cheek on the boy’s hair, deep voice dripping with fondness as he started to read.
Being Captain was fun, but being a brother was even better.

{This is total fucking shit but it’s whatever lmaoooo}
A month or two had gone by. Angel was driving his way towards the Henbane to get to Hope County Jail. The drive was quite long, but he did appreciate the view on the way there. God, how could you ever get tired of this place.
“You know that guy I talked to you about Miss?” Angel decided to break the silence
“Yeas?” Missy replied
“I haven’t seen him in a while... I don’t know if I should be worried...I mean something just doesn’t seem..right y’know?” though Angel couldn’t stand the self entitled man...John...he couldn’t help but realize that John was coming around less until recently. He hadn’t seen him in over three weeks.
“Well maybe it’s good you haven’t seen him” Missy offered “I mean based on what I remember, seems like he’s nun’ but trouble for you” Missy let out a hearty laugh “Wouldn’t be surprised if ya chased him off!”
Angel chuckled “Maybe, he probably got tired of my shit! Ha!” despite his reply Angel still had an off feeling about the disappearance. “Hmm...you think those people took him?”
“Eden’s Gae-t? I mean.. it’s probable. A lot of disappearances have been connected to them” Missy thought for a minute “Wouldn’t be shocked if he was taken”
“Yeah...”
———————————
The two finally arrived to the jail a few minutes after. Missy first stepped out of the car and Angel followed after, heading towards the jail.
“Thought it be much bigger than this...no wonder those Eden’s people runnin’ fucking wild.” Angel muttered to himself
“Come on, Angel! Make haste. I just wanna get this done an’ over with.” Missy called back
“Alright! Alright!...Jesus...” Angel hated to be rushed but he doesn’t blame Missy. Nothing sounds worse then getting called in for a man who thinks he’s a some god. Fucking Christ...
Angel stepped into the jail and looked around “huh...quite home-y for a jail.” Angel had no idea where to go since no one was there, and Missy went ahead of him, so he wandered through the halls.
“Hey! You there! What are you doing?!” A voice called out.
Ooooh shit...
Angel quickly turned “O-oh-! My bad! I apologize. Do you kno-“
A taller woman approached him, not quite happy to see him “You’re not supposed to be here. Who let you in? The jail’s closed.”
“Jesus Christ it’s been less than a fuckin’ minute since you saw me” Angel answered back in an annoyed tone “and now I’m being interrogated. If it’s that important I’m a fuckin’ cop.”
“I don’t see a badge?” the woman sounded suspicious
“Are you- MISSY! HELP! I’M BEING HATE CRIMED.” Angel yelled.
“For fucks sake I asked what you’re here for! What fucking cop-“
“What is going on here?” another man came in, more concerned about the yelling than seeing Angel
“Literally go pick on someone your own size- Oh. Wait a minute he’s cute- What’s your name hun?” Angel cooed at the other man
“Staci...uhm...” Staci stopped for a second and leaned in towards the woman “Joey who the fuck is this?” he quickly whispered
“I dunno but he sounds like another asshole to me” Hudson replied
“Another WHAT?”
“ANGEL!” Missy’s voice boomed “What did I TELL YOU about keeping up?!” She grit through her teeth
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN I-“ Angel tried to protest before being cut off
“ANYWAYS. I’m so sorry if he caused ya’ll any trouble.” Missy said apologetically “This is Angel, one of the other deputies that transferred from our station back in the city.”
“Really..?” Hudson questioned “I’m sorry Missy but doesn’t he seem...unfit? He’s quite....shorter than the rest of our-“
“It’s been less than ten minutes and I don’t like this bitch-“ Angel blurted out
“Angel-“ Missy sighed “He’s never like this he’s very friendly and a hard worker. And though he is shorter-“
“I ain’t short.” Angel interrupted
“Than the rest of our units HE his very skilled and professional, even in the most dire situations” Missy finished, giving Angel a reproachful look.
“Damn straight.” Angel said with Pride “I been trained like a soldier ever since I was younger”
“How old are you now?” Hudson remarked
“‘Scuse me?” Angel was about ready to pounce
“Joey please- Sorry about that she tends to not be careful with her words” Staci laughed nervously
“Yeah she better be careful because a nine millameter sounds nice right about now-“ Angel suggested
“YOU TWO-“ Missy nearly yelled but still kept her composure “Just- go to Whitehorse....he’ll tell ya’ll about the plan.” Missy snuck a quick glance at Angel before walking off. Shortly after the three headed to Whitehorse’s office.
“What plan now?” Angel asked
“You should know but I guess you were busy wandering the halls” Hudson spat in reply
“What the FUCK is with the locals here-“ Angel said aloud
“Hudson...” Staci looked at her “We’re planning to go to one of Eden’s Churches to arrest Joseph Seed”
Joseph Seed....Seed...Something about that name felt familiar...he couldn’t quite put his finger on it but he had a feeling it might have to do with that richy rich guy John he met a few months back...maybe- no...he can’t be connected right? If he was that would mean he could’ve gotten himself killed too easily right? Right?...
“We’re gonna detain him then fly him back to Missoula and hopefully it’ll be the end of that” Staci said.
“Yeah, Hopefully.” Hudson agreed
“Why you say that?” Angel tilted his head slightly
Hudson sighed “..where do I start. I mean awhile back this church, now a fucking cult, was peaceful and they actually seemed like a friendly group of people. They helped out the community, held small barbecues and events, and even helped out the less fortunate”
“Okay and...?” Angel drawled
Hudson continued “And all of a sudden they changed. They started saying this...Collapse...something about the world ending was coming or something and-“
“They went fucking nuts.” Staci finished “They started pulling people out of the road, their homes, some would even be ambushed while taking hikes and shit. Many wouldn’t make it back but those who did said that the cult was using some drug called the Bliss to turn them into the walking dead. If not, they would manipulate you into joining their fucking project.”
“Manipulate as in what? Some hypnotic shit?” They both nodded and Angel’s eyes widened “You’re fucking kidding? I thought they were just some weird ‘drink the Kool-Aid’ type of group.”
“Absolutely fucking not” Hudson barked “these fuckers torture you if you don’t listen to them or help out with their weird religious cause. Then they kill you if they find no use of you.” Hudson shaked her head “I pray for those poor folks who got tied up with Eden’s Gate...”
“Oh fuck no- Why the fuck I gotta put up with this shit?” Angel said in
“Cause all of our other deputies been taken by them.” Staci said nervously
“Staci!” Hudson spat at him
Angel stopped between them and looked at Hudson, then at Staci, then looked forward, and back Hudson.
“YOU’RE FUCKING KIDDING?” Angel yelled “WHY DID YOU CALL MORE THEN IF WE GON BE KIDNAPPED?!”
“Staci? Joey? Who’s out there?”
“Just a visitor!~” Angel starts to walk back “Ya’ll fucking funny if you think something was gonna happen. I got PTSD I shouldn’t even BE here.”
Hudson grabs his arm, pulling him into Whitehorse’s office “You are our last like of hope. You are NOT leaving.”
“Swear to god my life’s a goddamn movie” Angel said under his breath “Get off of me” Angel protested as he shook Hudson off his arm “I better get payed good for this shit”

Tumblr media
Sometimes life got him down… But he’d had hundreds of years to cope with that. His human companions, however, always seemed to take their failure harder. Even when the blame should always fall on him.
He was the strongest and oldest in the pack. It made him the alpha. Their setbacks were his own.
Yea, don’t get him wrong. He took defeat and loss hard. But there’d always be a new day. Unless you were dead. And if you lived to tell the tale, then fuck, why stay depressed about it?
What killed him more than anything though was seeing a young woman that had stolen his heart upset about anything. She blamed herself for shattering the jewel, causing all the death, destruction…
But it wasn’t her fault. Not really. Sure he blamed her, called her names, made her feel guilty about the whole mess; but in reality, it was his fault. If he hadn’t had been such a jackass to her, calling her names, making her feel ugly, being an immature asshole--she wouldn’t have run away. She wouldn’t have been caught, and the crow demon wouldn’t have gotten a hold of the jewel. Even then, if he had been more encouraging, patient, maybe they would have been able to recover the jewel together before she shot it out of the sky.
But no. He was a fucking jerk. He should have seen from the moment she crashed down in front of him when she was being chased by the nasty ass centipede that she wasn’t Kikyo. She was nothing like her in terms of spirit, spunk, demeanor, and even as time went on--she looked less and less like her. Her beauty was far more natural; just like she was. She wasn’t overbearingly poised, stiff, cold. Kagome overflowed radiance and kindness. Kikyo had been a beautiful, untouchable woman… But Kagome was gorgeous. Kind. Warm. Everything Kikyo had not been, Kagome was.
He thought he had loved Kikyo; but he was a fool. He had no idea what love really was after traveling with Kagome. Having her care for him. Talk to him. Touch him as if he wasn’t tainted. No one had ever tried to rub his ears, hold his clawed hands, hold him when he was ready to cave in on himself… that was until Kagome came along. She made it bearable to be a half-demon in this fucked up world. She made it alright to be himself.
Seeing her hang her head down from another destroyed village they hadn’t made it in time to save, her likely hearing Sango’s quiet comments about how she was glad she never saw her village in such disarray, Miroku’s musings about how anyone would do anything to get the jewel shards…
He wanted to fucking strangle them, but no--she wouldn’t let him. Originally he growled at them, but she soothed him and plastered her fake caring smile on her face. Then proceeded to ask him to help them lay the villagers to rest. He was hopeless to tell her no--well, after a few mutters of annoyance. He had an image to maintain, after all.
It wasn’t until into the night when the fire burned low, the stars shined brightly, and the full moon illuminated the land from high in the sky that he heard her sleeping bag ruffle. He looked down to see his delicate pale beauty look around the campsite. What was she looking for?
He caught her shift her gaze up to him. Since he was a coward, he pretended to be asleep. Some more shuffling sounds followed by footsteps had him open his eyes. Seriously, what the fuck was she doing??
Jumping from tree to tree as quietly as possible, he saw her walk out into an open field and sit. She was just gazing up at the stars…
He remembered one of the first times they did that together. The idea of staring at them was stupid--why bother? They didn’t move. They held no real purpose.
But Kagome said they learned a lot about them in her time; how they change from season to season, how they can be used for directions when they knew what season it was. Some had special names, different stories. Legends. Myths. She said after learning demons were real, who knows if those stories were actually as fictional as they had originally been meant to be?
The fascination was still slightly lost on him until she mentioned with the pollution of her time that it made them harder to see unless you were out in more ‘rural’ areas. Places without villages. Like here. She said she loved to look at them--with people who were special to her.
The speech wasn’t lost on him, even though he acted like it was. He knew he was important to her. How could he not be? She didn’t go to school as much, spent most of her time here even though she had a life on the other side of the well…
Even though she said it was to fix her mistakes, he knew that wasn’t the only reason. Or at least he had hoped it wasn’t until he heard her cry out for him when Hakudoshi held her heart.
Confirming, definitely a good piece of it belonged to him. But… he still had no idea what he could offer her? His harsh words and attitude? The fire-rat robe off his back? His father’s sword that held in his demonic blood?
She deserved to have a choice. If she did so happen to choose to stay with him once the jewel was once again complete, without knowledge of his feelings, he’d tell her. He’d build her a hut--if the village accepted them. Fuck, even if they had to live in a cave, he’d still consider himself the luckiest man in all the lands.
He’d do anything for her; and that was why he had to remain silent until there was no jewel driving her mission.
Looking at the back of her didn’t help him figure out what was wrong with her, though. The wind shifted and stirred those wavy ebony locks. Along with the scent that was so Kagome, he smelled a twinge of salt…
She was crying.
Of course she snuck away, so she didn’t wake up her friends… or him.
He jumped down from his tree and walked over to her. She didn’t flinch or move her position from staring up at the sky. Obviously she had been aware of his presence. Her power has certainly grown since she first arrived now. She could clearly pick out different reiki, youki, jyaki, and the jewel shards.
What couldn’t his girl do? Of course he referred to her as his girl; who else would be his? Even if she happened to choose to leave, he doubted he would ever find another as giving, kind, caring, loving, and beautiful as Kagome. Maybe in a couple centuries; but even then he’d likely try and find his way back to her when she was born. See when she grew up if she’d want to try again… But he would also just be happy to be her friend. Why would he get in the way of her happiness? Of her life? He may have been a selfish bastard for now, keeping her from her friends and family, but they had a mission. He had the right to be an ass… Demand the time from her until it was over. Because God forbid she did choose to leave, he’d die from not having spent more time with her.
“Hi,” she said softly.
“Hey… what’s uh--what’s going on?”
“Just thinking,” she sighed, closing her eyes. Fuck. Why was she so goddamn pretty? Even sitting there, tears trickling down her flushed cheeks, hair blowing with the breeze, and he couldn’t stop looking at her. She was mesmerizing.
“Yea? Care to elaborate? Or ya just gonna keep cryin’ over nothing?” He asked as he plopped down next to her. Jerkface on. Ready to push her to fight with him so that the tears would stop. Maybe even let his face eat the dirt. After a good sit she was usually somehow in a better mood from releasing her anger.
“Sigh…” She opened her eyes and looked at the stars again before she finally shifted her eyes back to him. “I just… I’m stupid. That’s all.”
“Why you say that? You’re the one with all the book learning and crap. You’re probably one of the smarter ones out of our group,” he pointed out. Then he realized he said something nice. Fuck. He was deviating from his plan… But she just looked so broken. Damn. Shit. He had to comfort her; at least that’s what the demon demanded. The human in him was screaming to run and hide and protect her from himself.
Nice. Two very opposing sides fighting in his mind. No wonder being a confusing asshole came so naturally.
“It’s just… You all have lost so much. Some because of me, some not. But still, I feel like I let this get to me… More than it should. I’m able to go home and see my family. Separate myself from all of this and you guys--can’t.
“I’m just pathetic for letting this get to me. I’m just so useless and.. Weak. You were right.”
Before he could think the better of it, he stretched his arm out and hugged her shoulders tightly. “No. I was wrong. So far from wrong. You’re probably the strongest out of all of us, Kagome.”
“Do-Don’t--”
“Don’t what?? Just say shit? I’m not for once. Yea, I know I don’t always think. Especially back then when we first met, first starting traveling together… I know, Kagome. I know I was an asshat. The biggest bastard of them all. I just…”
“Inuyasha, I understand,” she soothed, turning to face him. Her calves were pressed to his thigh now. Without thinking, he pulled her up into his lap.
“Inu--”
“I’m sorry.”
“W-What??”
“Your insecurities--your fears… They’re my fault. I’m to blame.”
“No--stop. Inuyasha I understand why you said those things… It wasn’t because you meant them--not exactly, anyway. You said them out of malice. You were hurt. You were scared to be hurt again by someone who looked exactly like the woman who had literally ripped your heart in two. I get it. I learned you didn’t mean half of what you said. You just said that stuff to protect yourself…”
“Kagome…” How was it possible this woman knew him better than anyone? Was that even fair? Did he know her just as well?
“I know you had a rough life. I’ve seen it. You’ve only warned me time and time again when we’ve gone into villages, stayed out in the woods at night, hunted the jewel shards, even asked our friends to join us. I get it. In the sense that you are the way you are because of it. But I also see through to the real you. I see you for who you really are Inuyasha.”
“You don’t gotta tell me. I know you do…” His claws brushed through her hair and she started to relax further into his hold.
“Inuyasha?”
“What?”
“What are you doing?”
“I don’t know… Am I not doing something right?”
Her giggle emerged and he felt the tension in his own body leave. Clearly he was doing okay making her feel better, “I think you’re doing just fine--you just have never… I mean you don’t usually--”
“Everyone needs a different form of comfort, Kagome. Sango usually just needs a pep talk or she needs to just not be groped by that fucking pervert. Miroku has to be joked with or threatened. Shippo… well there ain’t much that gets him down that your fuckin’ pokey won’t fix. Kirara is never sad unless she doesn’t get fish.”
“What about you? How can I--” she turned to face him and her lip snuck its way in between her teeth. “How can I comfort you?”
“By being you. You’ve stayed by my side when you shouldn’t have. You’ve held me even after I slaughtered humans without a second thought. It’s second nature to you, Kagome… You--You don’t know how grateful I am to have you here… even though I don’t show it like I should,” he mumbled the last words hoping she wouldn’t hear the mushy words exit his mouth.
“And you… comfort me how…?” Her eyes with glistening and twinkling like the damn stars. Fuck. Did he mention how beautiful she was? And how unfair her proximity fucked with his head? Was she… what was she asking for? He heard her heart beating erratically. Her face was blushing--but not from crying now. Her scent told a different story. It was one of desire. Want. Need. Fuck.
He wasn’t thinking as he leaned in and closed the distance between their mouths. His lips brushed hers lightly at first, testing to see if she would ultimately reject him like everyone else. But fuck--no, she pressed back harder. Damn; she was ruining his plans.
He pulled back slightly before the kiss got more heated and looked deeply into her lust covered eyes. Damnit. He felt a particular body part rising with her scent and the nonverbal cues she was sending out.
“Kagome--”
“Please--just for tonight--I don’t want to be second. Tomorrow we can just move on but tonight can it just be us?”
“What?” And his dick was under control again. Her words triggered something in his brain to settle the fuck down. “What do you mean ‘second’?”
“I know--I know you don’t care about me like that. And that’s okay. You don’t have to. I know you’re in love with Kikyo. I know you want the jewel. I know you want to avenge Kikyo’s death and the betrayal Naraku caused between the two of you. I get it. I understand. I just-- for tonight can it just be us? No Kikyo? No Naraku? No jewel?”
“Kagome that’s not--”
“Inuyasha--” She leaned in and tried to kiss him again but he pulled back. Here he said she was smart and she actually was the dumbest of them all…
What kind of horse shit was she spewing?
“No--what the fuck, Kagome?! You think you’re fucking second to all those things?!?!”
“Inuyasha shush! We’re not that far from--”
“Shut up! Answer me! You honestly think I put those other things first before you?!”
“Well obviously!! The minute there’s a soul collector you’re out of here! The moment you catch Naraku’s scent, you’re gone! And don’t forget why I’m even here to begin with!! I shattered the jewel! The jewel you want!!”
“Don’t give me that crap Kagome; you and I both know while yea, we kinda need help being able to see and sense the jewel shards I need you. I. Need. You. You. Not Kikyo, not Miroku, not Sango… YOU. Do you have any idea what kind of person I would be--fuck--what kind of person I was before you came along?! I only have friends because of you. I only have been trusted by villages because of you. Kagome… God you’re everything for me. You’ve given me so much without even fucking trying.
“I get I am a bastard. I know I’m an asshole through and though but come on--you have to know by now, after everything we’ve fucking been through that I want you by my side. That when you aren’t here--it’s just empty. Don’t even act like you don’t know what I do when you’re gone. I’ve heard the slayer and monk tell you. Even fucking Shippo rats me out for the right price. Kagome--how can you be so fuckin’ blind??”
“Inuyasha--”
“I’m not done talking, wench; so shut the fuck up and listen. Kikyo--Kikyo is dead. I know that. I know there honestly isn’t a way to save her. The feelings I have for her--they revolve around guilt and remorse. But even looking back at what could have been--it never would have worked Kagome. We didn’t trust each other. We were two of loneliest people in the world and drew on each other for comfort.
“What you and I have… Fuck Kagome. Even just as friends, we have such a--shit. Kagome, I’ve never had friends. Even my only family hates my guts. You were my first friend. The first person to trust me with your life. Do you even know what that means to me??”
“Inuyasha…” Luckily she was drawn out of her little spiraling depressive shell she had put around herself. Maybe they should have had this talk years ago…
“Kagome--with Naraku--fuck. He wants to hurt me. He wants me to die mentally; physically he probably couldn’t give a shit. But he wants me to suffer for whatever reason. Do you know how he would succeed in that?”
“I--”
“By taking you away from me. Kagome--don’t you get it?”
“Inuyasha--just--just say it. Please,” she whispered.
“I love you, dumbass,” he finally said. Breathlessly. Because the air from his lungs had whooshed out of his body. Because every fucking promise he made to her, made himself just went out the window. Typical. His mouth always did end up running away from him. But he couldn’t believe she had thought she was so low on the totem pole… how could she honestly believe that he didn’t care about her? That he’d fucking use her body like that?
Mating was a serious thing in inuyoukai culture. Fuck--even in this era women didn’t typically go opening their legs to just anyone. Yea, things were different in her time but goddamn--he was not going to allow her to do that to him. To her even. If she wanted to be with him, it would be a lifetime commitment. Once he had her, he was too selfish to ever let her go.
“Inuyasha--I--”
“I’m not gonna just rut you and leave you. That’s not how this would go, Kagome. That’s not who I am. Don’t you think I have a little more honor than that? Don’t you think even as a friend I care about you more than that??”
“I’m sorry…” she said, her voice disheartened.
“Damn right you should be sorry! If we do this--this is a lifetime commitment. Not your lifetime; mine.”
“What??” She said looking up at him in shock.
“Inuyoukai mate for life--”
“But your dad--”
“My old man rutted Sesshomaru’s mom for a powerful heir. I’m not lookin’ for someone to take over my land. Fuck--I have a fucking forest the villagers named after me in fear that I would one day wake.”
“But--”
“Yea, he mated with my mom and he died. Shit happens. But she had me to love and protect and raise. The mate bond only affects the demon in the relationship as far as if you got hurt and died, then I would. Not the inverse. What would happen for you is that it would wear off and you’d begin to age like normal.”
“Are you… Are you asking me to be your mate?”
“God, you’re slow,” he smirked lightheartedly.
She glared at him, “Inuyasha… This isn’t a joke.”
“I’m aware of that; it also isn’t a tryst.”
“Touche… So… Uhm--where--where would we live? When this was all over?”
“Whatever village would take us. Or a cave. Wilderness. Seems like the more likely option.”
“What about my era?” He gave her a look of ‘Yea--with my ears?’ “Oh, you’re-you’re right. It wouldn’t work…”
“Look, I wasn’t--I wasn’t trying to make you choose. You can take all the time you need. I wasn’t gonna say anything until the jewel was whole and we figured out what to do with it. We can just go slow--I can court you and--”
“Inuyasha; I love you too. I don’t want to ever be without you. If I didn’t want to be here, yes it would eat me up inside because I was the one who broke the jewel but I want to be with you; by your side. Kikyo could have taken my spot… If--If we had to live in a cave, forest, wherever I’d be alright. I’d still be with you.”
“Are you sure about this Kagome? There aren't any take backs on this kind of thing…”
“Now who is doubting whom?” She tilted her head frowning slightly.
“Whatever, wench,” he replied with no bite. “Forever is just a long time to not think about this. I swore I’d protect you; that includes myself. You might not realize what being mated to half-breed means.”
“I don’t understand what you mean; is there… other stuff we’d have to do or--”
“You’ll be called the demon’s bitch. The half-demon’s slut. Anything you’ve ever heard thrown at me, they’ll be hurled at you.”
“I don’t care about what people think about me. I care about what you think… Will you think those things of me?”
“Kagome!! What the fuck--?!”
“See? Of course you won’t. Neither will our friends…” She trailed off and looked slightly uncomfortable and her scent shifted.
“What are you worried about?”
“You--You may not love Kikyo like you used to… but--”
“Sigh… it’s been a long time coming for that conversation. She does know how I feel about you. That’s another reason she doesn’t press to travel with us. The last time we met, she had asked if I had told you yet, that was awkward,” he said blushing, letting his ears fall flat on his head. The embarrassment was worth it when he heard laugh lightly and felt her cold hand on his ear. Fuck. He secretly loved it when she would just brush his ears in passing. But it seemed the secret was out… Because an unbridled rumble erupted from his chest. Damnit.
“Are you purring?” She asked, smiling mischievously.
“NO! I DO NOT PURR!”
“Sure--sure,” she agreed with undeniable amusement laced in her voice as she continued to rub his ears. Feeling the other effects it was having on him, he reached up and paused her ministrations.
“You’re--You’re gonna have to stop.”
“Why?” Oh, poor sweet innocent Kagome… He conveyed a face that hopefully told her what he honestly didn’t want to confess out loud. Unfortunately, he was pretty sure the piece of anatomy that was now poking into her side. It had the inverse effect though; her scent spiked again.
Fuck she was like a drug. He already knew he had no hope in separating from her; but she obviously held no reservations. She wanted what he did. Even more so maybe. She had been willing to just have him for a night. Claiming she was being the selfish one. Bullshit. If anyone was selfish, it was him.
He slowly leaned in again but paused just a breath away to wait for her to close the distance. While he was selfish, he wanted this to ultimately be her choice. He had already made his. It was her. Always her.
Luckily, or thankfully, whichever it was, she closed the gap between them and kissed him. Fuck he was a goner. He loved her. Everything about her. From her eyes, to her voice, to her sweet honey flavored tongue shoved into his mouth brushing against his fangs, her breasts he was squeezing through her sleep shirt, her kind personality, her overflowing love-- he could go on and on.
When she pulled back he was taken by surprise, which wasn’t an easy feat. Especially when her legs were straddling his hips. He opened his eyes which he hadn’t even realized had closed and saw her shred her pink tank top that had already barely contained her large round mounds.
From the time she had first come to his era to now Kagome had grown from a girl to a woman. She was now eighteen and her figure was more apparent, more enticing and womanly. While she was still a head shorter than he was, her bust had grown, her hips had expanded in preparation for bearing children, muscles were developed from years of running, walking, fighting, and fuck best of all, her gorgeous blue eyes just seemed to have gotten darker to match the ocean she loved to visit. That was one of her favorite places to go when they had a moment and while he bitched, he secretly loved taking her there to explore.
Without thinking, because when did he ever, he swallowed her nipple whole and swirled his tongue around it until he felt it point from excitement. Once he thoroughly ravished one side, he moved to the other. He felt her nimble fingers untying the strings to his haori and aided her in her efforts to remove it. Once she started to shove it down his arms, he pulled away and laid down his kosode and robe of the fire rat. He turned back to her and twisted to lay her down upon the makeshift bed he had made.
After she was fully on her back, he started kissing her again, his hands restless as they studied every curve she possessed more thoroughly than he had with his eyes. Even though their mouths were battling for dominance, his ears caught every sigh, moan, and gasp her voice made.
Once his hands hit the waistline of her pants, she stilled him. Shifting beneath him, she encouraged him to remove her pants. Who was he to refuse what she desired?
Once her pants and underwear were pulled down, he acted without thinking and moved his mouth down her body. Without his mouth swallowing her moans he soon realized how loud she was. He smirked at the idea of seeing how far he could push her--to see what would come out of that smart mouth of hers.
He reached her raven curls and nudged her legs apart. She hesitated slightly and he looked up to see nervousness in her eyes. Swiftly he moved back to look directly into her eyes and grasped her face in his hands as he straddled her.
“You’re beautiful, Kagome. You’re mine. We don’t have to continue though--we can stop and go slowly.”
“N-No. Sorry--I just-- I was kind of nervous about how I smell. It’s been a little bit since we’ve hit a hot spring or river to bathe off in,” she said bashfully.
He couldn’t help but chuckle at her reasonings, “Oh Kagome. Trust me; you smell like a fucking buffet. I can’t wait to taste you.” He licked his lips teasingly as he watched her flush and swallow. He kissed her again hard to try and coax out the woman who originally pleaded to take her for one night. That confidence was what she needed.
Once she was fervent in her kisses again, he dove back down to what his instincts were calling for; a taste of her nether regions. That time when he reached it she didn’t fight him when he spread her legs and laid between them. He initially shoved his nose between her folds. He was slightly tickled by the black hairs that hid her sex from him but fuck, if it was pleasureable with the scent that was so Kagome surrounding every inch of him. He dipped his tongue into her lips and goddamn--he almost lost consciousness. It was better than he had ever fucking dreamed of.
He may have gone a little mad with arousal when he dove in and began eating her out. Control was something he obviously lacked as he lapped up her juices and explored every inch of her sex with his mouth. Not that she seemed like she was complaining at all. No, if anything the cry of his name, the writhing of her body from the sensations he was giving her, and her grabbing his head (thankfully not his ears) pulling him closer only made him want to dive in more.
She had a nub that seemed to really make her wail out louder when he played with that. He decided to focus on that area, thinking he teased her enough, especially from her begging him brokenly for--well he assumed completion. But she didn’t direct him to verbally do anything, only push his head to the nub. Again, who was he to tell her no?
He carefully took two fingers and placed them slightly at her opening, still not confident enough to insert them without some practice, and teased her. She seemed like she was losing her mind in the throes of passion. To be fair, so was he. He was grinding himself on the fucking grass to eleviate some of the pain of his hardened cock.
He realized she was coming when she yelled out his name and her body released more liquid onto his fingers, which he happily licked up. Once she had stilled from her convulsions, he slunk his way back up her body and laughed deeply at her blissed out expression.
“Inuyasha that was--”
“I got just as much out of it as you did--if not more,” he smirked and leaned down to kiss her. She hungirly accepted and reached for his hakama ties. He didn’t stop her and felt her foot come up and hook around it to help ease it down. Without removing his mouth from hers, he kicked off his pants and then hovered over her briefly to just take in the moment. Her flushed cheeks, the glistening sweat on her forehead, the glazed-over look of lust in her dark blue eyes…
“I love you, Inuyasha,” she told him as he sank himself down over her body and lined himself up to enter her.
He kissed her soundly as he dipped his tip to her entrance and his hair fell around them to envelope them in a silver curtain of privacy. As she wrapped her arms around him and spread her legs wider to open herself more to him, he whimpered. The tight heat that consumed his throbbing hardened cock was literally something he never thought he would feel; even in his dream he had never felt so much desperation. But he refused to move in fear of hurting her further.
"Inuyashaaa,” she moaned once he was fully seated inside of her.
“Are you alright?” He asked through gritted teeth. Fuck, he wasn’t a teenager anymore but at this rate he was gonna--
“Yes; stretched but-- it’s like we belong together. You fit perfectly,” she sighed as she brushed her fingers through his hair out of his face to look into his eyes.
She was right though. They did belong together. Then. There. Forever.
He was tentative when he first started pumping inside her but her cries and panting encouraged him. While she said she loved him for who he was, he was still scared he may hurt her. But her mews, pleas for more, and movements from her hips to return his thrusts, fuck, his bitch was amazing.
“Inu-Ya--” she said brokenly as those beautiful sapphire orbs closed and she whimpered.
He ground his hips in circles and brushed his pelvis against her sensitive clit, earning a high pitched cry, “What do you want Kagome? Do you want to be fucked by a demon?”
“Y-yes,” she pleaded using her hands to pull him by his hips closer if that was even possible. He pulled away and she whined, trying to pull him back, but once she figured out what he was doing she moaned his name in impatience.
He threw her legs upon his shoulders and reentered her hard. His cock was in deeper now, his hand was free from holding her leg close to his waist. He reached around and started pinching her very stimulated nub. She began mewling uncontrolablly and it was fucking glorious. To hear such pleasures he was bringing her only made his cock harder if that was even possible.
“Is that what you want Kagome?? To be with a demon?”
“Ahhhh,” she cried as he felt her walls tighten around him. God. Damn. “Yashhhhh,” she ground out flailing her head back and forth. Her breasts were bouncing with every hard and quick pound he gave her. His dick was just at the tip of her womb and he silently thanked Kami she wasn’t in fucking heat otherwise this night would have ended very differently.
He dipped his head to her ear and exhaled making her writhe further under him, “Are you gonna cum for me, Ka-Go-Me?”
“Gods--” he heard her swear before she wailed out her release into the night. Riding out her orgasm it took everything not to explode right then. He slowly eased himself back between her spread legs and sat her up. She was fucking gorgeous; her face was still glistening in sweat, her breathing was starting to calm from her orgasm but still audible to his demonic hearing--scratch that, even a mortal would be able to her her subtle groan and sigh, and her hair was wilder than normal.
He cradled the back of her head to bring her into a kiss as he pumped into her before he couldn’t stave off his own release any longer. He broke the kiss when he felt his youki rising, his fangs growing--
Her hands brushing his cheeks and her accepting eyes calmed his initial panic. She pulled his face to be at her shoulder; she was silently asking him to mark her. He didn’t even mention that to her; he needed to make a note to thank Sango for likely educating her about mating behind his back.
His fangs bit down into her shoulder and she winced at the initial pain but relaxed into it as he spilled his seed inside her. Once he was completely drained, he unclamped his jaw and laved the spot on her neck he had marked then gave it a kiss. She was his. Forever.
“Kagome?”
“Mmmmm?”
“Are you okay?”
“I’ve never been better,” she said, taking his face into her hands again as she leaned in to kiss him.
“I meant--about you coming out here--”
“Oh… Yes and no. I think there’ll always be rougher days; but I have you to lean on. We’ll make it through together.”
He smiled and nuzzled her cheek as he wrapped her up in his haori. He threw his hakama back on along with his kosode and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Keeping her close, he just allowed her to snuggle into his chest for comfort over the long and tiring day. Her breathing evened out but he didn’t dare move. He wanted this moment to last forever.

Her writing is amazing and so is her art. 💓 This event was such an amazing idea tbh, so thanks to everyone who helped hosting it and everyone who participated <3
“Ta-da!”
“Wow.” Even if Gray ignored Loke's smugly shimmering eyes, there was a lot to take in. The modern dining table was completely laid. Despite the comparably small surface of the table, there was plenty of different stuff to eat and he'd also spotted the various kinds of bottles near the kitchen counter. The kitchen counter itself? It wasn't as much of a mess as Gray had assumed it would be. After all this time of being friends with Loke, he was still unable to tell if that ginger was more of a clean person or a messy person. Perhaps it depended on the exact situation, really.
“Wow? That's your only reaction? I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this.”
“Sounds kinda gross, if you ask me,” Gray deadpanned but couldn't help but smile a little when he saw his friend's play-acted offended face.
“Well,” Loke countered, “I've always known that you never had keen eye for things that deserve true appreciation, so I can only feel bad for you I guess.” With a slightly dramatic gesture he left Gray's side to fetch them both a glass from the cupboard.
“Sure, whatever you say, man.” He watched Loke with a shrug, the tiniest curve still not disappeared on his face. Of course he appreciated the effort, he really did. Perhaps he wasn't the best at showing his gratitude most of the time, so he was glad that Loke understood him without him having to say much.
His gaze swerved over the full display of food bowls and the... Wait.
“You prepared all of this yourself?”
Loke froze in his movement for a second and Gray almost missed the hesitation. Almost. When his friend turned around with a glass in each of his hands, he shot a lopsided grin towards Gray. “Weeeell..... Not all of it.”
Gray knew exactly where this was going. “What did you prepare yourself?”
With a roll of his shoulders Loke smoothly turned his back on him to pour them both a glass of wine. “This and that... I toasted the bread and cooked the eggs and-”
“You ordered the rest of the meal.”
“Got me there.”
Even so, starting off the evening with a meal and wine was a very good idea. It was pretty decent wine, too. Before Gray knew it he had already emptied two glasses. They hadn't planned on getting drunk but then again, they hadn't planned out anything really so this night could go anywhere.
Or, almost anywhere.
After they cleaned up they decided to move over to Loke's couch and watch some shitty night tv channel. This channel seriously never disappointed them – there was always something dumb to comment on and make fun about and Gray caught himself laughing at more of Loke's stupid jokes than he wanted to admit. It had always been this way.
The night progressed very fast and it was an absolutely good time. Everything was so easy when he was around Loke. Silly and chill. Gray felt relaxed.
And perhaps it was the bottle of wine that they had killed together (though Gray felt a very tiny buzz at most), but there was something so warm and good about Loke and him just chilling on his bed together and talking about random stuff before sleep would get to them. There was nothing weird about them sharing this bed, nothing weird about two half-naked guys right next to each other and sharing their thoughts.
Until Loke thought that it was a good idea to bring that topic into focus.
“Why again are we talking about this?” Gray averted his eyes and stared at the ceiling instead. He made an effort to sound annoyed but something told him that it wouldn't be so easy to distract Loke from his intention. Ugh... He really didn't like talking about this kinda stuff. And perhaps one of the reasons for this circumstance was right beside him...
“Because you're one of my best friends. And because I'm very curious.” Loke rolled onto his side. “I know all about Cana's love life and-”
“It's not like she has ever tried to make a secret out of it. She's a very blunt person. She loves telling us juicy new information involving her newest crush and so on,” Gray tried to counter.
Without much success.
“I want to know more about your love life, though. We've been buddies for so long and I know that you're not much of a talker, but c'mon. There's got to be somebody, right?”
Something about Loke's tone of voice had changed, but he wasn't able to pinpoint what exactly it was. Maybe there was a tad bit less amusement in it, or perhaps he just sounded more serious.
Gray frowned. He still didn't really feel like talking about this. Yea, he'd much rather change the subject. Besides, there wasn't much to tell anyway...
“Okay.” Loke tried again after a moment of silence. Did he realize that he wasn't gonna say much, even if he begged him to? “If you don't want to tell me any stories yourself, how about I ask what I'm curious about and you answer?” A short pause. “Or not-,” Loke added quickly. “If you don't want to.”
So he still wanted to hold onto this topic. And Gray really wondered why. Perhaps it was the wine that they both had consumed and the fact that they were chilling on Loke's bed, comfortable with blanket and pillows and a crappy reality tv series playing in the background still.
With a sigh, Gray decided that he would agree. For as long as he could bear it. “Alright, fine.”
How could he mentally prepare himself for the questions that might come for him? He probably couldn't.
“Okaaay...,” Loke shifted to lie on his back as well and focused on the ceiling, just like Gray. “I know that your relationship with Juvia didn't work out. But I never actually asked if it was you breaking up with her or the other way round. So what was up with that? She's a sweet woman.”
Gray frowned at that. He should have expected Juvia to be the first person to be brought up but he still felt unprepared. On the other hand, it wasn't too hard talking about her, because... “We kinda both did it? It was weird. I think we both just got carried away and didn't realize from the start that we had different feelings for each other that weren't romantic love, you know? We care for each other a lot, just not... in that kinda way. And we're fine with that.” He couldn't believe that the words were just spouting from his mouth like that and that, actually, it wasn't too difficult to talk about it either.
For so long he had always just lived with the perception that he had to hide away his true feelings from anybody. As time went by and he made his true friends, he learned to let go of this perception step by step, but romantic love was a topic that he had barely ever approached up until now. At least when he himself was involved.
“Huh, alright. Totally get that. I mean, you guys are still good friends, right? I haven't seen her in a while.”
“Yea. She's got a new job and it's pretty busy. Didn't Cana meet her last week?” Gray mused loudly.
“No idea,” Loke shrugged before a small grin appeared on his face. “Talking about Cana... Did you ever have the hots for her?”
Now, that was a question Gray had to grimace it. It wasn't because Cana wasn't an amazing woman or didn't look great, but... Their relationship had really turned out to be one between a brother and a sister. They had fun together, she was game for anything and sometimes they annoyed each other just to hang out again not long after.
Of course he knew why Loke was asking. All three of them were pretty close after all. Loke had even been Cana's boyfriend for a short while before they cut it off again, all without any hard feelings. Gray had always admired this casualty a bit.
And Cana and himself? She had been his first kiss... Ah, yea.
“No, not really, I guess...,” he ended up muttering and scratched his nose in a sense of awkwardness. “She's really been more like a sister all this time and I don't think that's gonna change.”
“And that kiss?”
Yea, yea, yea... “That was... just curiosity. We were kids, kids are curious.” Gray still couldn't say it without feeling even more awkward.
Luckily, Loke seemed content enough with this answer and when Gray dared to turn his head so he could catch a glimpse of Loke's face, he spotted the small smile. Was it amusement? Was it happiness? He was unable to figure it out. Maybe it wasn't important.
“Fact is, she's amazing. And we'd definitely miss her in our squad, right?”
Now that was something Gray could agree with without hesitating a single second. “For sure.”
“Okay, so what about Natsu?”
Loke was facing him again now and he actually had to laugh out loud at the face Gray pulled once the question had slipped past his lips. The sound of it made Gray's heart jump but the absurdity of the suggestion was in the forefront of his mind. Natsu? Never in a million years! “Do you still need an answer?” He asked, mumbling and still with a grimace. “Besides, he's with Lucy. Lucy can deal with his hot-tempered ass. Sometimes I feel really sorry for her.”
His best friend had a hard time suppressing his chuckles. “I mean, you two act like an old married couple sometimes. It would be cute as well – if it wasn't for you wanting to bash each other's head in on a regular basis.”
“Go fuck yourself!”
“Oh, kinky Fullbuster is here.”
“Shut up!”
It was over, Loke was laughing and rolled around on the bed until he almost pushed Gray off the edge. He could be worked up about Loke asking if he had a thing for Natsu, or he could let himself get infected by his friend's laughter, ignoring the soft warmth in his cheeks. He didn't hate Natsu and Natsu didn't hate him. Honestly, they'd probably help each other out of the biggest problems and be there for each other but the bond they had was still more like a... love-hate thing? It was hard to imagine a life without Natsu in it but sometimes he just wanted to throw him into the nearest trash can.
Oh well... The second option won out anyway. At this point it was impossible not to give a laughter of his own and with a quiet, playful curse on his lips he pushed Loke away again so he wouldn't end up falling off the bed after all.
“Calm down man, it wasn't that funny,” he argued and huffed, a not so secret smile on his face, though.
It took another moment for Loke to calm down but eventually he just wiped a single tear off his face and then he was ready to proceed.
Gray had hoped that he was done.
“Okay, okay, okay...” The ginger placed a finger on his lips, looking as though he was thinking hard. Gray didn't trust any of it. How was he still not done? “What about Erza?”
“She's just a good friend.” Although, and that was something he had never told anybody really, he's had a small crush on her years ago. Years ago, really.
“Fine. She's a very impressive woman, though, damn. If she wasn't part of our friendship group I'd be so intimidated.”
“Yea.”
Gray knew that they still were pretty intimidated by her sometimes, though. They just didn't like to admit it.
“Mirajane?”
“Dude, she's a lesbian.”
“The women of this world are very lucky.” Loke sighed and placed the hands behind his head, looking at the ceiling again. “Levy? No wait, she's taken, too. No surprise, she's cute and smart.”
“So don't ask me about Gajeel.” He was almost getting used to these casual suggestions now.
“Right, right. Freed?”
“He's engaged with Laxus, remember?”
“Sure, sure. Two more attractive dudes off the market.” Loke waved him off, but the grin had returned. “Maybe I'm just trying to be nosy and find out what kinda guys you like... And girls. But I'm more curious about the guys.”
And Gray hated how fast this false feeling of casualty disappeared again. It flew right out of the window. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw his friend grinning at him and he couldn't handle it right now. He just hoped that his reaction wasn't too obvious and that the warmth tingling in his body was to blame on the remains of the wine (even though they really hadn't drunken much). Harrumphing quietly, he decided to fake-stretch himself and then roll onto his side. “I don't have a type. Are you done, then? I'm kinda tired, seriously.”
Gray wanted to hit himself because of this obvious sounding lie. How more obvious could he be?! Still, the tiny, naive spark of hope that Loke would buy it and just leave it be was there and he felt tense when he awaited his friend's response. It was really late, so that was no lie at least. Late, early? It was starting to get light again outside anyway.
Wow, had they really been talking for so long?! The tv was still on, too, but he hadn't been paying attention to it anymore at all.
“No type?”
He felt Loke shifting and so he decided to fake a yawn. “No, I don't think I have one.”
“Huh, okay, I get it.” Loke was looking over Gray's shoulder, he could see it out of the corner of his eyes. Intently he averted his eyes and just stared at Loke's wardrobe, still lying on his side. For a second he thought that Loke was done, but then- “Except that I don't get it. I mean, you only have to take a look at this charming face of mine and you'll be sold.”
More heat seeped into Gray's cheeks immediately and he really, really wanted to blame it on the alcohol again. Was Loke trying to flirt? Was he just being Loke? He could never be too sure about it... There was no way that Loke was seriously having any interest in him like... that, right? Fuck.
He knew that he shouldn't turn his head and look, because that was exactly what his friend wanted him to do. He knew he would be doomed and his heart would make that kind of jump again and make him feel stupid, but...
Turning, with Loke half-hovering above him, he looked straight at him and Loke immediately intensified his stupidly charming grin.
“See? Hooked yet? Nobody can resist this beautiful face.”
There was so much Gray wanted to do, but would never dare to. There were so many thoughts in his head that he wasn't anywhere near ready to voice yet. Loke's illegally suave grin, the colored light of the sunrise beginning to stream through the window, their closeness, the flirty atmosphere...
But it was just them being bros. It had always been this way.
Or had it not?
When had his stupid heart begun to make such a ruckus about Loke? And was there the smallest chance of Loke feeling the same?
Fuck. He hated the conflict this man threw him into and yet, at the same time, he wouldn't want to miss these evenings. Not a single one of them.
And before he even took note of it, he was having a lopsided grin of his own, with the most stupid little hope somewhere in his heart. “Pfft, sure. Try again, man.”
“Oh you know I'm an enthusiastic pursuer of my goals,” Loke countered and adjusted his non-existent tie in a silly way.
“I don't mind', Gray thought to himself and when catching this thought of his he just waved his friend off again and huffed before turning his back on the ginger. With a smile sneaking its way onto his face, he muttered.
“Night, you idiot.”
“Hey, I wasn't done yet,” came the silly complaint from behind him and before Gray knew it, Loke had flopped on top of him. How could he have been so naive to think that a simple 'good night' would shut his friend up? It wasn't like he had a huge issue with Loke flopping onto him, but part of him had and... it wasn't exactly helping his case and all the thoughts he's had around it.
“You can't just turn your back on me like that. What point are you trying to prove? I'm irresistable. And if you're really going to try and escape this simple reality, you've got to try harder than that! Worshiping the beauty that is me is inevitable, Gray.”
Gray knew all too well that Loke could just go on like this forever. At least it hadn't reached the point of him becoming ridiculously poetic about himself yet, although the thought made him want to shake his head and roll his eyes in fondness. Still, he really wanted to sleep. Or perhaps calm down and shut off his brain for now.
So he just tried to shrug Loke off with a huff and grumbled. “I swear, I'll throw you off this bed if I have to.”
“You would yeet me off my own bed?!” A surprise gasp.
“Yea. Yea, I would.”
It was definitely worth it because he finally seemed to get through to his friend and, perhaps more importantly, he got more of Loke's warm laughter before he felt how said man retreated and made himself comfortable without sprawling across him.
“Fine, fine. I don't wanna get yeeted anywhere today, so sleep well, have sweet dreams and all that.”
The chuckle in Loke's voice faded away with his words and then it was quiet.
In this silence and while closing his eyes, Gray decided that Loke's laughter and the sound of his voice definitely weren't the worst things to hear last before falling asleep and that the knowledge of him beside him and the warmth radiating from his body were a kind of comfort that he would like to get used to, like to have and to keep.

------------------------------------------------------------------
The week passed by in a blur of classes, coffee, and contemplation over a certain black-haired, green-eyed professor. Jason was becoming fed up with how much he thought about the marine biologist, but everything reminded him of Percy Jackson.
Just yesterday he had passed by a little kid with a dolphin backpack and his first thought was Percy probably knows what species that is. It was such a bizarre and unexciting thought he almost knocked his own teeth in. Now it was Friday: the day he would be surrounded by Percy and everything marine related. He wasn’t sure he was going to survive.
With a deep, calming breathe he hopped out the car and headed towards the Biology and Oceanography building.
“Jason!” A bright voice called.
He turned around, a smile already taking over his face, “Good morning Percy,”
“How are you doing? You ready for today?”
“I’m doing great thanks. Kind of excited.”
Green eyes twinkled, “Well that’s nice to hear, at least one of us is.”
Before he could ask what that meant Percy shoved a cup into his hand, “I got us coffee. Figured we’d need the energy if we’re going to be chaperones for a bunch of over-excited sea creatures.” He winked.
Jason laughed, “Are they a handful?”
“Nah,” Percy chuckled, “They’re just excited for this because we haven’t been able to go for two years.”
“Good morning Prof!” An energetic yell from a dark-skinned, bouncy-curled girl echoed behind them.
“Good morning Hazel,” Percy gave her a dazzling smile.
“Oh and good morning Dr Jason. Prof told us you’d be joining the trip.” He didn’t have the chance to return the greeting before she plunged on. “I hope you’re ready for today, Leo and Frank are bound to do something dumb and end up in a fish tank,” She rolled her eyes, “You know they always manage to break something when we’re in labs. Isn’t that right prof?” She turned to Percy who was smiling unrestrained.
“Yep, I swear those two are more chaotic than I was.”
Jason’s mind immediately conjured up a twenty-one-year-old Percy, tucked into a lab coat and goggles; a frown etched into his forehead and his tongue sticking out in concentration; black hair probably poking up in all directions, and skin bronzed from a combination of his Hispanic heritage and a well-spent summer. He had no doubt the biologist had been a sight for sore eyes even then.
“What’s got you all caught up Dr Grace?” A voice startled him out of his thoughts.
He shook his head, smiling, “Sorry, not fully awake.”
“This is the very reason they invented coffee.” Percy laughed, tipping his own cup in point.
“Hello everyone,” A girl with flowers in her hair and about a dozen pins tacked to her backpack greeted.
“Hello Katie, I like the daisies.”
“Thanks Doc, they’re the easiest to pin down and I figured today was not the day for something elaborate like hibiscus or chrysanthemums. Too many petals you know?” She mused.
Jason was fast realising why Percy was so close to his students. They interacted with each other so easily and with completely unique personalities.
“I’m sure you know Dr Jason Grace,”
“Hello,” He smiled.
“Oh I most certainly know Dr Grace,” Katie grinned, giving her professor a look.
He didn’t miss the blush creeping up Percy’s cheeks.
“Where is everyone?” She frowned, turning to Hazel with a smile and a hug.
Percy checked his watch, “I don’t kn-“
A chorus of hellos, and how are you’s filled the space as students poured in.
“Guys!” Hazel squealed and rushed towards the group.
Once everyone had gathered around and gotten through their various catch-ups, they turned their attention towards their Professor.
“Right I see you’re all here so lets quickly do introductions and then we can pile on the bus. Everyone this is Dr Jason Grace, he’s a neurologist and a professor in the medical department. He will be our first-aid and a chaperone to help me handle you chaotic bunch.”
They all said good morning, exchanging glances and hushed whispers.
A curly-haired blonde grinned, “Hello Doc, how do you feel about swimming with sharks?”
Jason’s eyes widened, turning to Percy.
With a sigh the biologist gave his student a look, “Will, stop trying to get people to go shark-tank diving with you. I told you Dr Grace only has to do what he’s comfortable with.”
“Yes Prof,” The freckles on his face bunched as he smiled cheekily.
“Now let’s get going. We have a guided tour at ten and my mother said only two things are important in life. Punctuality and pancakes.”
“Yea, yea we know,” They all grumbled.
One torturous bus ride later in which Jason was only a couple inches away from Percy they arrived at the Conservation Center.
“Alright everyone, we have a tour now and then it’s free time till one. After that everyone meets up in the main exhibit so we can Feed the Fish and then we’ll make our way to the shark-tank diving for anyone who wants to do it.”
Even though Jason had no idea what was being said half the time the tour was still incredible. The way sea life interacted with one another was fascinating and some of the creatures were mind-boggling, in  looks and in activity. The best thing about the tour though, was seeing Percy and his students light up, huge, curious eyes and rapt attention plastered to the various tanks. He knew it wasn’t a regular aquarium tour because the guide and Percy got into intricate details about the anatomies and functions of corals, fish, predators vs. prey and various other topics. The students were fully attentive asking and answering questions like they knew exactly what they needed to know and how they needed to know it.
When it finished at half-eleven the group were chattering incessantly, comparing notes and discussing all sorts of ideas.
Percy’s eyes were lit up with pride and passion as he thanked the guide and turned to his class, “Alright seaweed-brains go enjoy your time. Hazel, Leo and Katie please set alarms to be back here by one.”
“Yes Prof!” They shouted, already bounding away and into the exhibits once more.
“They will all stick together?” Jason asked, wondering why only three of them had to set alarms.
“Yea, they do everything together. I’ve caught them messing around in the library or all grabbing coffee at the café a number of times. I don’t know what it is about this group but they really like each other.”
“And you are very fond of them,” He observed, looking straight into those glowing green eyes.
“Yea, they’re complete chaos but they’re good people and they’re really passionate about my subject. It’s hard not to like them.”
“I’m sure with a professor like you it’s not hard to have passion about anything. I’m sure you’d make rocks interesting.”
“Actually,” Percy lit up, “Rocks are really interesting. There’s so many different types and they all have different functions. Also it’s fascinating to understand why some rocks look this way and others developed that way and-“ He cut himself off, blushing profusely, “Sorry you probably don’t care.”
“I think I care more now than I did before,” Jason grinned, willing to do anything to keep that brightness in those sea-green eyes.
Percy’s cheeks turned a deep shade of ruby, “I minored in geology because there was a lot of useful information regarding formation that helped with marine biology.”
“How’d you get into marine biology anyway?”
He shrugged, “I’ve always been fascinated with the ocean. It’s a whole ecosystem living by a completely different set of rules to land-systems. How did you get into neurology?”
“A lot of head injuries as a kid,” He smirked.
Percy burst out laughing, “What?”
“Yea, I fell on my head a lot as a child and I got a concussion a few times. It fascinated me that my brain could be impacted by it. I mean falling on your leg doesn’t generally stop you from walking, A scrape, maybe some blood and tears, and a band-aid is all we think of it. But falling on your head causes much more damage and it could affect your whole body.”
“That is... dedicated,” Percy gasped, still laughing.
“I was a weird child,” His mouth twitched in amusement.
“Any other strange anecdotes that decided your future?”
“Hours’ worth of them,” He grinned, “I can tell you about the time we lived near a wolf sanctuary and my mother thought it’d be a good idea to have me interact with them. I interned there for a little while so i’m pretty good at analysing wolf injuries and anatomy.”
“I-“ Green eyes blinked in surprise.
“Can I entertain you with my peculiar childhood over dinner? Tomorrow night?” He asked, voice scratchy with nerves.
The smile that graced Percy’s face could make flowers grow, “I would love that.”
“You would?” Jason could not believe what he was hearing.
“Very, very much. And I’m glad you had the guts to ask because I’m ninety percent sure my students were going to throw you in a shark tank and make me rescue you just to get us together.”
It was Jason’s turn to dissolve into laughter. He had never been so full of the future but gods it was invigorating.

King Of Spades Or King of Spuds
Pairings: None Trigger Warnings: mild cussing Author: @burning-clutch (Team Ghost)  Total word count 3020 Prompt by: Lexiepiper / LexiePiper  AO3: Alexa_Piper, FFN: Alexa Piper
Stupid humor, Wes is trying, Danny is a troll, summoning
When they tried to summon the King of All Ghosts, the last thing they expected was the sudden appearance of a very familiar, very human boy wearing spaceship pajamas and with a toothbrush halfway to his mouth... -.-.-.-
"You know this probably isn't going to work how you think it is right?"
"Shut up and just do your job nerd."
 "If we get killed-"
"That's why I stole this thingy from Fenton, duh." The raygun was waved casually around like it wasn’t an actual weapon.
"Just do your thing and we see if you're being real with us or not. If you can't even be truthful about this how are we supposed to believe anything else you say? You said you tried this before and it worked right?"
The wirey teen runs a hand through his orange-red hair and sighs deeply. "The summoning works you just have to make it clear who you're trying to get… I've ended up with the wrong ghost before…"
“Then you’ve already got experience, more than us anyway” The dark haired jock called over his shoulder from where he had been fussing with a candle.
"Come on Wes you should just feel lucky we're talking to you after everything."  The blonde A-lister huffed with her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
"Star's right you know. Now if what the book from that goth creep said was true then if we summon the king we can make a deal with him."A Latino beauty with an accent said, hardly looking up from her nail file. “Anything we want so long as the king accepts the payment.”
“Yeah, and we got the nerd here to film it, cuz ya need proof of contract or whatever..”  A large beefy blonde jock piped up with his two cents.
Wes sighed and gave Mikey a sympathetic look as he shakily set up a tripod and a small digital camcorder, While Kwan continued to set up the candles around the vacant basement room.
“I just really think summoning the ghost king is a bad idea, I mean you remember that invasion last year? Wasn't that the ghost king?" Wes urged only to get punched in the arm by the blonde jock.
"Not the real king, you saw how all the ghosts fought him, idiot," Dash commented with a huff. “Kings are loved by all, Being the king of Casper High I should know!”
"Ghosts just fight each other regardless! It's what they do!" Wes shot back glaring at the larger teen.
"Regardless I want to make it so Phantom Falls madly in love with me and I can have my fairytale ending with him." Paulina waved off the ginger's worries. "A deal with the devil, so to speak, is hardly of any concern."
“A de- Are you hearing yourself?” Wes called out waving his arm frantically towards Paulina. When the girl only looked up from her nail file to glare at Wes the basketball player deflated. “Fine whatever. If we call become ghosts my obsession will be kicking your asses for all eternity I hope you know.”
“Ha! You’ll be lamer than the crate creep when you keel over” Dash spat poking the end of the ecto-weapon into Wes’s chest to accentuate his point.
Wes swatted the gun away, while Kwan stood back up to admire his handy work with the candles. “Right now we light them right?” The Asian asked. “Who’s got the lighter?”
Star tosses a small pink plastic thing to her boyfriend, who caught it easily. Kwan gives his girlfriend a finger gun with a quick ‘Thanks babe” Before he began lighting up the candles.
Mikey, seemingly satisfied with the camera, scrunched up his face as he watched the small pillars of wax ignite. “What’s that smell? I hope that those aren’t made with Benzaldehyde…. I’m allergic to-”
“Can it ugh, no one cares.” Star snapped to the other boy.
“They’re vanilla scented! I thought it would be nice.” Kwan answers in turn.
“Yes, I know that I’m not nose blind.” The nerd snorted out a laugh. “Benzaldehyde is a chemical used in the making of fake vanilla scents an-”
“How much longer until we can summon this king guy? The humidity down here is making my hands all clammy” Palina interrupted callously “You” She pointed her file to Mikey, “Hit record and you,” She pointed the file to Wes next. “Say the stuff that makes this happen.”
Wes muttered something under his breath causing Dash to punch his arm again. “Fine!” He hollered before beginning the summoning. Latin words warbled out from the teen’s lips, echoing around the room before suddenly, the candles started flickering as if being disturbed by the wind. The teens all watched with wide eyes as the candles suddenly flicked green and blue rapidly before going out. A wash of smoke came up from each one to condense in the centre.
With bated breath, they watch as the smoke forms a shape in the ring of candles. Paulina had a fleeting thought that they should have done this outside in case the ghost king was far bigger than the room could hold.
Though once the shape stopped glowing, and became clear to see, it was obvious they needn’t have worried. A quiet splash is heard, as if someone had dropped a glass of water on the ground, followed by a yelp from a new voice, before Dash’s shout of “Fenton?!”
Danny pulled the toothbrush from his jaws and turned around blinking at the people surrounding him before making a nervous face as he took notice of the candles surrounding him.
Star frowns and makes a disgusted snort noticing where the water spilling noise had come from. “Did you spit on the floor?” She asks angrily. “You are cleaning that” She points to the bewildered Danny.
“Um…. Hi?” Danny tried, wiping a bit of foamy toothpaste from his lips onto the sleeve of his rocketship patterned pyjamas.
“Of course it’s Fenton. Why wouldn’t it be Fenton.” Wes grumbled pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Love you too Wes, but seriously what happened?” Danny asks, taking a step forward only to yelp as his foot touched the circle line drawn by the candles. “Jeez, what the heck?!”
Wes perked up at that. “You’re stuck? You can’t cross the barrier!” He called out excitedly.
Paulina assessed the dark haired teen a moment before humming. “I didn’t think this thing could summon humans as well as ghosts.” She mused taping a perfectly shaped nail to her lips in thought. “I wonder if we can summon celebs?” her eyes went wide at the possibility
“What? No! This thing is only to summon ghosts! And Fenton showed up, and can’t cross the barrier so-” Wes prompts eagerly waving his arms at the sleepy teen in the circle.
“It means you either screwed up the spell and brought us a nerd or that dweeb is somehow the ghost king!” Dash spat back angrily.
Danny blinked out of his sleepy stupor as those words filtered into his brain. “Wait why were you trying to summon the ghost king?”
“Because you can make a deal to get anything you want duh,” Star answered in first.
“Shouldn’t you know that Danny? Your parents are ghost hunters after all…” Mikey piped up from the camera shutting off the device, figuring the whole thing was a flop and didn’t want to waste any more of the mini DV tape.
“What? No that…” He trailed off a moment as he became lost in thought. “Actually that might make sense… It would explain why Plasmius would try to free Pariah Dark…” he muttered to himself more than to the others in the room.
“Who and what now?” Kwan asked Danny while simultaneously Dash snorted.
“‘Ey. The nerd made a funny!” The blonde said acting bewildered.
“Seriously?” Wes groaned burying his hands in his face.
“Though as much as I hate to say it the ginger whiner is right. He definitely said it right to summon the ghost king. ‘Animum quoque regis’, or the royal spirt, or spirit of royalty was who he called out to not you.” Paulina said with a huff.
When she was given a few raised brows she shrugged it off and simply said. “I’m good with Latin. What? Can’t a girl be beautiful and intelligent?” she huffed as if she had been insulted.
“Can I go home? I was kind of hoping to actually get some decent sleep tonight…” Danny said stopping an argument from breaking out.
“What? No! You’re stuck there until you admit to being a ghost.” Wes shot back to him.
Danny sighed deeply and rolls his eyes. “Fine,” Danny cleared his throat before raising his hands to wiggle his fingers in a ‘spooky’ fashion, thumb holding the toothbrush. “I’m a ghost~,” he warbled out sarcastically “There, happy? Can I leave now?”
Wes scoffed at the display before getting as close to Danny as he could without crossing the barrier and loomed over him threateningly. “That’s not what I meant and you know it!” He hissed.
“Maybe he’s like a ghostly secretary?” Kwan asks after a moment. “I mean his parents have the ghost portal right? So maybe that’s why we got Fenton?”
“That’s the stupid-” Wes started but was cut off by Star’s affirmative.
“Hey yeah! Fenton’s the ghost’s go between!”
“I’m a what now?” Danny asked stifling a yawn.
“Ohhh! That makes sense! I knew you were connected to my ghost boy somehow!” Paulina chirped out.
“Yea! That’s true the ghost boy always shows up around you” Mikey added with a slightly bewildered gaze.
“Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying for so long now!” Wes called out excitedly.
“Yeah, and actually… I don’t think I’ve ever seen the two of you in the same place,” Kwan said with a hum, placing a hand on his chin in thought. Danny blinked at him trying to push down the nervousness rising in his chest.
 “Yes! Yes!” Wes cheered.
“And Fent-toenail did get summoned by a ghost spell thing…” Dash mused glaring down his favourite punching bag with a frown.
“Exactly what I was saying!” Danny glared at Wes with a murderous look.
“So... What? The Fenton Dweeb’s a ghost?” Star scoffed looking to Wes with an exasperated face. “I doubt it.”
“What? He clearly is!” Wes complained flailing about like mad towards a now snickering Danny.
“I’ve seen shapeshifting shots before… How do we know you’re the real Danny?” Mikey asked eyes wide.
Danny blinked at his classmates in wonderment. They had just handed him an out, and who was he to not take advantage? Threatening up his stance and puffing out his chest and using a bit of his ghostly body control he makes himself appear smokey. “Alright ya got me,” Danny said with a shrug
 “What?!”          “Wait, what?”
 “You’re dead?!”
Danny used his abilities to stretch his smile a little wider then what should be normal on a human. “I was hoping if I took an unassuming form you all looked down on I could throw you off but you win, you got me.”
“Fenton I swear…,” Wes growled, while Danny did his best to stick in that uncanny valley zone.
“So you are the ghost king?” Paulina asked excitedly.
“What? Oh ancients no, I’m one of the contenders for the throne though,” Danny said, pulling his hand across his hips before falling into a deep bow channelling his inner medieval prince, he introduced himself. “I am…. Barrybum Roblix.” Danny stayed in his bow much longer than necessary to hide the smirk on his face. Once he got his features under control he stood straight once again, tilting his head too far to the side, “Just Barry is fine.”
Wes was flabbergasted. Was this really happening? He finally gets Fenton right where he wants him and the half ghost has the gall to try and weasel his way out!? “No one’s buying this Fenton! So save your breath!”
“What are you talking about? I speak the truth,” Danny chides crossing his arms and lifting a little off the ground to float within the confines of the circle.
 “Fenton can’t float.” Dash scoffs.
“So, if you’re not the ghost king then this whole thing was a flop! How will I ever be able to get even a kiss from my ghostly prince charming now? You were supposed to be the king…” Palina pouted.
“Well I’m able to shapeshift, If you release me from here I can imitate the one your thinking of.” Danny offered. “I’ll even give you that kiss”
“Ew no, I don’t care how good you are at imitation I’m not kissing some random ghost.” Paulina shot back with a disgusted look on her face.
“I think it’d be cool to have a pretend Phantom hanging out with us, imagine how much our popularity would skyrocket!” Star offers. “Think if we got him to imitate phantom and took a group photo-”
“Oh~! I looove~ that idea Star! Then yes! We’ll release you if you can imitate Phantom.” Palina nodded eagerly.
“Then ya got yourself a deal, we just gotta shake on it. Well, the one who read the spell does” Danny practically sing songed out as he stared down to Wes with a shit eating grin.
“Go on! Shake the ghost’s hand” Dash said cracking his knuckles threateningly.
“Wait, what!? He was brushing his teeth when he came here! This is clearly Fenton trying to trick you! How do you not see it!? There’s toothpaste spit on the floor…” he trailed off as he noticed the puddle of slop was no longer on the floor, and the toothbrush had disappeared. “Turning it invisible doesn’t mean it no longer exists.” Wes huffed.
Danny shrugged in response to the redhead’s ranting.
“Come on Wes just shake his hand so we can take some cool pictures!” Star says shoving the taller teen forward in annoyance.
With a sneer, Wes approached Danny who’s grin hadn’t faltered the entire time. “I hate you” He growled out as Danny took the ginger’s hand in his cold one.
“I know buddy” Danny chastized before letting his transformation rings wash over him.
Wes glared at Danny, Now turned Phantom with renewed vigour, before the halfa flew upwards knocking Wes down as he does. The ginger made a disgusted face as he realized he’d landed his arm directly on the toothpaste slop Danny had spat out.
The A-listers (plus Mikey) were over the moon seeing ‘Phantom’. “Huh, I’ve seen the real one and he’s definitely taller, but the face is almost spot on so no one will know if you float,” Dash says astutely.
“Oh, I love it!” Paullina cooed. Hold still I want to get a full body shot! Throw a thumbs up and- Yes like that! Perfect! Okay now, Star! Take one with me in his arms!”
And so it went, for a good twenty minutes with all the people in the room excitedly snapping pictures, Someone even stole Wes’s phone and took one of him behind Danny as the ghost lay on the ground with a wide grin.
Once all the teens were satisfied with their snap happy adventure, and couldn’t think of any other pictures to pose with ‘Phantom’ the group prepared to bid ‘Barry’ goodbye.
“This was fun but now that I’m in the human world I have people to meet and places to haunt. Etcetera and so forth…” Phantom said with a wave, smacking Wes on the back knocking him over once again, before disappearing from view.
The only person who really noticed phantom’s departure, however, was Wes the others were too engrossed in the photos they had taken. “Oh my gosh look at this one! Oh, that one is so cute!” Star cooed over the camera roll Paulina had on her phone.
Not that Dash and Kwan were any better, “No way man this one is sooo much cooler! Look at you here that one is bomb!”
And even Mikey was furiously typing away on his phone as he blasted his ‘phantom photos’ all over his social media accounts.
All the while Wes just sulked. He was so close! Everyone was heading towards the right conclusion only to have Fenton rip his victory like so many times before! It was infuriating! And just… “UGH!” Wes groaned and laid on his back in the circle where Danny had once been.
“Oh! Let’s go upstairs and print off the best ones and make a college!” Star exclaimed excitedly jumping about like a rabbit that was given caffeine. “And you, nerd, can leave my house,” Star said shooing Mikey away.
The nerdy teen simply nodded and began to gather up his camera and tripod. Once he was finished that task he left without another word. His voice echoed from upstairs as he began talking on the phone to someone nattering on about how he got photos with a Phantom, not Phantom.
“Wes when you’re done wallowing you should leave too, you’re bringing down the whole vibe, man,” Kwan said to the dejected redhead on the ground.
“Yeah, yeah, I got it…” he groaned out.
Wes watched the group of A-listers go with a deep forlorn sigh. He laid on his back for a good solid ten minutes before he felt he had sufficiently wallowed enough. He rolls to his side and pushes himself into a standing position before letting his shoulders droop.
With a final annoyed sigh, he began to walk forward. He got two steps before he was zapped. The redhead let out a yelp of surprise from the electric zap he had received. It wasn’t painful but it was a surprise.
With a frown, he reaches out with a hand and rests it on the semi translucent barrier. It tingled through his skin and he couldn’t break past it. Wes couldn’t help but blink in confusion. “Wait… He didn’t…”
He pounded on the barrier a few times with his fist and kicks at it a few times before groaning out in exasperation. “Damn it, Fenton, I have to pee!” He yells up to the ceiling, well aware the other teen was long gone by now.
It didn’t stop him from glaring blankly ahead as if he could hear his nemesis’s chuckling and see that ever present shit eating grin.

🚨🚨CW: blood, noncon tatooting, cutting into someone with scalpel 🚨🚨
The guards have Hanna by her arms and are once again, dragging her down to the basement. She's relieved when they drag her past the door to the dungeon, only to absolutely freak when they take her into a new room with a metal examination table with a light hanging over it. Icy adrenaline creeps into her veins and grips her heart as horrific memories of her time at Syrtex hit her at full force.
Suddenly it's not Conner’s guards dragging her towards the table, but Syrtex agents wearing all black.
Since she long ago decided begging wasn't in her cards, she fights. She fights with an animalistic furiosity against the hands that hold her; kicking and stomping on their feet, bucking and yanking and not once, but twice going as far as biting. Blood and spit are flying in the air and the guards do their best to avoid her teeth. They hate handling Hanna for this exact reason, but they do it anyway because it's what Conner asks.
They drag her towards table, and she jumps up, pulling her feet up to her chest and landing them on the cold edge of the table. She kicks out, pushing her and the guards backwards and sending them falling to the ground.
From the shadows Conner and the young doctor standing next to him watch the events unfold. It wasn't pretty but he marveled at her determination and raw power.
The doctor chuckles. "Well, you certainly have your hands full." He muses. "Tell me, how much did she cost again?"
He smirks. "She wasn't cheap." He admits. "But between you and me, ten million."
The doctor's eyes widen in shock. "Damn!" His gaze goes from Conner to Hanna who is being wrestled off of the ground and forced towards the table once again. Still, she’s fighting.
"Have you made any progress with her?" He asks.
Hanna is being forced onto the table, kicking and screaming and crying, and Conner crosses his arms over his chest as he watches. With a slow exhale says, "Believe it or not, yes."
The doctor, whose name is Jake and is a college friend of Conner, looks at Conner amused. Conner meets his gaze and rolls his eyes. "Admittedly not a lot of progress," he says, "but she's not swearing anymore, and she’s following my basic commands."
Hanna let's out an animalistic screech and Conner freezes.
A wirily smile crosses across Jake's face and he shakes his head bewildered. "Whatever man. If anyone can break that," he says referring to Hanna, "it's you. Just tell me, does she have her shots? Cause if she bites me while I'm working on her, and I catch something from her . . ."
"That won't happen." Conner says confidently. "She’ll be fully retrained during the entire process.” He pauses. “Just, keep your hands away from her mouth, and you should be completely safe.”
Across the room the guards have managed lift Hanna onto the table and pin her down. While three of the guards keep her down, two of them pull Velcro restraints over her wrists and ankles. One at a time they secure her four limbs to the table, and once that's done, they all pull away in unison.
The men stand around Hanna, watching her fearfully, and Conner approaches them. He places a hand on the shoulder of one man and gives it a small reassuring squeeze. "Good job." He says.
The guard looks over his shoulder to Conner. He holds his hand, which is bleeding from where Hanna had managed to bite him, to his chest. Jake looks at the guards wound, only to then notices that the guard to his left has a similar one on his shoulder. Jake looks at Hanna who is fighting violently against her restraints as if hes looking at her in a whole new light. His expression darkens and he takes half a step back when she fights violently against her restrains with a sudden scream.
"Hanna." Conner says calmly.
Hanna keeps fighting.
"HANNA!" He bellows.
Hanna settles slowly and eventually goes still. The only thing in the room that can be heard is her panting.
Conner takes a step forward and places a large warm hand down on the small of her back. He rubbed his thumb over a small patch of exposed skin slowly and gently.
Instantly Hanna reacts. "GET YOUR HAND OFF OF ME!" She shrieks with a jerk.
Conners hand remains. "I'm sorry for using all this force on you, especially since I know you didn't do anything wrong." Says Connor. "But I have to do this." His hand moves to her face and she flinches, only to feel him tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
She opens her eyes when his touch disappears and looks up at him, still secured flat to the table. “What do you mean?” She asked. She tried to hide the sound of fear in her voice, but only managed to make herself sound nervous, instead of scared. “What are you going to do to me.” He eyes flash to the other man in the room, to his lab coat and to the try of tools sitting on a nearby table. She sees a scalpel and tweezers and two tools that look like guns. Her stomach clenched and she pulls against her restraints again feabily. “Conner? What are you going to do to me?”
Jake and the guards peer around Conner and watch in amazement as he touches her. She doesn't fight against him, but instead she falls completely still and silent under his touch.
"Please, just sit still and be good. It'll all be over before you know it."
"Bite me.” She snarls.
Conner smirks and bends down. He brushes away some of her curly hair, and his lips graze against her ear. Hannas whole body tenses. "Maybe latter darling.” He purrs. “If you behave."
Hanna throws her head back in an admirable attempt to head-but him, but he’s expecting it. He evades her attempted attack and with a single gesture he signals for his men to finish restraining her body.
Warily, they step forward.
The guards strap Hanna to the table moreso than she had previously been before, starting with her thighs, then moving to her quads, forearms and biceps. Larger and thicker straps are used to secure her torso and neck, and a thick padded strap is used to pin her head sideways to the table.
The restraints completely immobilize her and when she pulls against them the straps that were not padded bit into her soft skin.
Syrtex used to restrain her like this when she was their prisoner. They used to leave her like this restrained for hours and sometimes days as the took samples from her and conducted experiments on her to test and develop her abilities. On one particular occasion they strapped her to a metal table just as Conner was doing and electrocuted her if she failed to glow. She hatted that test.
"You're safe now Jake." Conner says as his men pull away. "You can begin."
Jake walks up to the table and Hanna stiffens as he begins touching her. His hand brush her shoulder blades and presses on them lightly before moving down towards her waist and grabbing her hips from behind.
Hanna doesn’t like this. She doesn’t like this at all. She tries fighting against her restraints to get him to stop, and for a moment he does, before he realizes that he is indeed safe, and continues. Hanna squeezes her eyes shut as he continues touching her and examining her figure.
"Do exactly as we discussed." Says Connor. I don't want anyone to find it if they're touching her, and I want it to be somewhere where she can’t reach it."
The hands travel around her body, pressing and pinching and massaging, feeling around for a good place to put whatever it was that they were talking about, into her body. The hands feel the flesh on her sides, unintentionally tickling her, and she squirms as they move down her sides and travel to the edge of her gym shorts. Jake pulls back the hem of her shorts and feels around her waist, only to stop when he feels a small object embedded in her skin.
"Well this is interesting." Jake says. He massages the spot a bit and feels out the edges of the unknown object. "Seems like someone had the same idea as you." He says with a quick glance at Conner.
Conner’s eyebrows pull together and he steps forward to place his hand where Jake's hand use to be. Hanna recognizes his touch as he places his hands down on the small of her back right above her ass. His warm hands feel out the object under her skin, pressing gently down and on it and noticing firsthand the object under his fingertips.
"Hanna," he says steadily. "Is this--?"
"A tracking chip?" She finishes bitterly. "Yea. Curtesy of Syrtex."
Conner traces the chip under her skin some more, feeling its edges and upon further inspection he notices a very faint scar where the chip had been injected into her flesh. He purses his lip. "Cut it out of her." He says firmly. His voice is a low growl and it surprises Hanna.
"I don't have anything to numb the pain." Says Jake casually and without real concern.
Conner waves him off. He eyes the scar and his jaw clenches. "It doesn't matter. Just get it out of her."
"Okay then." Jake presses a firm hand on Hanna back, stretches the skin between two fingers, and poises the blade above her skin.
Hanna's heart starts thrumming in her chest as she realizes that Conner is telling someone to cut the device out of her. She panics. "Wait hold on!"
To her surprise they actually hesitate.
Hanna takes some shaky breaths and licks her lips. "You - you don't have to remove it." She blurts. "The damn thing doesn't work and it hasn't for years."
Conner rounds the table. He crouches before Hanna so he can look her in the eye. "And why exactly doesn’t it work?" He askes.
Hanna looks away.
Conner’s eyes narrow. "Hanna.” He growls. “How. Did. You. Break. It?" He says slowly and brokenly.
Hanna looks away, which is difficult to do given the fact that she can’t turn her head. She didn't want to tell him the truth, that she had fried the fucking device by electrocuting herself, so she tells him a plausible lie. "Alex.” She says looking back up at him. “My brother Alex deactivated it with his power. He deactivated all of our chips once we escaped the lab."
She turned her eyes back to Conner and watched as he chewed on her response for a few seconds. His gaze turned dark and he looked down, almost as if he couldn't meet her gaze. "Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if it's active or not. It's a foreign object and I want it out of you." Conner looks back up to the doctor. "You may continue Jake."
"Wait wh--" is all she can say before Jake presses the scalpel down and drags it across her skin. Hanna cries out and tenses, pulling against her restrains, as her flesh splits and blood blossoms from the slice of the surgical knife. She screams at the white-hot pain of being cut open, at the feeling of her skin and tissue being sliced apart. Tears bud in the corners of her eyes and they get caught in her lashes.
Conner slips a warm heavy hand under Hanna's hair and rests it on the nape of her neck. He gives her neck a gentle reassuring squeeze and brushes her tears away with the thumb on his other hand. "I know this hurts but we have to do this." He said like he didn't have an option.
But he did.
And he was choosing to hurt her anyways.
Jake removes the scalpel from her body and Hanna has two seconds to breath before he returns with surgical tweezers at hand. He sticks them into her raw bleeding flesh and digs around as he searches for the chip.
Hanna didn’t think it possible but his digging and prying and poking is almost worse than his slicing. Especially when he finally finds it and locks it within the teeth of the tweezers. "Almost--" he pulls it out of Hanna's back and Hanna cries out as it slips and scratches against sensitive nerves, "out!". He pulls the chip out and holds it proudly in the air.
Hanna goes limp and let's her forehead rest against the cold metal. Beads of sweat had formed there, and they run into her eyes annoyingly. To her suprise, something soft dabs at the perspiration on her forehead. She opens her eyes to find Conner blotting at her forehead with a handkerchief. "You’re doing great." He says with another small squeeze to her neck. "Your almost done."
'Almost done? What more did they have to do?'
Hanna sighs and melts under Conner’s touch. She hated it being there, but she couldn’t help finding it just the slightest bit comforting. Especially when he spoke to her so gently. A moan slips past her lips and she closes her eyes before settling against the hard table.
Jake places the old chip, which was about the size as a flash drive, on the metal tray and Hanna squeezes her eyes shut as Jake pinches the two separated pieces of flesh closed. She musters through the pain of being stitched back together with small whimpers and moans.
Conner studied the young woman, admiring her grit strength and looked to the wound on her back. Jake was stitching the flesh back together quickly while wiping away the blood that was running down her back. He pulls away from Hanna and walks to the little table where Jake is keeping his tools and examines the chip that had been pulled from her body. It looked burnt and corroded, like battery that had exploded. He looks back to Hanna with a confused expression on his face. 'What the hell?'
He drops the chip and wipes his hands off using the cloth in his hand, the same one that he used to wipe away Hannas sweat, before turning back to Jake who is just finishing cleaning Hanna's lower back. She was laying on the steel table quietly now, occasionally a foot would twitch or a hand would shift, but she was still and silent.
"The stitches will need to stay in for a month," Jake says. He places a hand on the back of Hanna's shoulder blade and feels around. "Is this a good place for the new chip?" He asks?
Conner nods. It seems good to him and he has a hard time believing Hanna would be able to cut it out of herself when it was almost in the center of her back. Jake picks up an alcoholic wipe from the tray and tears the package open with his teeth, before extracting the wipe itself and beginning to wipe down the skin on the back of her shoulder.
Hanna stiffens at the coldness of the wipe and tries to inch away from the terrible smell. She looks up just in time to catch a glimpse of Jake who is approaching her with one of devices that looks like a gun. Her brows furrows and she pulls against the restraints with a small fearful whimper as Jake pinches a thick chunk of shoulder blade skin, places the nose of the gun to the base of the skin and pulls the trigger.
There's a quick burst high pressure air followed by a small yelp and Jake pulls away. A droplet of blood forms where the chip entered into her, swells, and Jake brushes it away hastily with a cloth.
"There." He said satisfied. "Old chip is out and the new chip is in." He turns to Conner with a small proud smirk on his face. "And you want me to tattoo her as well correct?"
Conner is watching Hanna who has her toes curled and fists balled into tight fists. Her jaw is clenched and every muscle in her body is flexed, like she’s ready to fight. A couple of tears are streaming down her face and he wants nothing more than to comfort her, but he doesn’t.
She was tough.
She could take it.
Afterall, it was just a tattoo. There were certainly worse things her could do to her.
He nods his head. "Yea."
Jake places a hand on Hanna’s back and her body tenses again at his cold touch.
"Where do you want it?" Jake says, dismissing Hanna and looking over to Conner. He sounded like a salesman about to sell a product. "The inner forearm is always a popular request, followed by the neck and chest. People like 'em visable for others to see."
Conner doesn't respond at first, instead he’s watching Hanna silently.
“The shoulder blade.” He says eventually. “I want this,” he hands Jake a piece of paper with his family crest artfully drawn onto it, “on her shoulder blade. The same one you just put the chip in.”
Jake whistles and reaches for the tattoo gun. “How big?” He asks.
Conner steps forward and draws a circle around her entire shoulder blade, indicating to Jake the size. Jake nods understandingly.
Hanna wants to beg him to stop, to plead with him and convince him not to tattoo her skin, but she knows her pleads would only fall on deaf ears, so she takes it. She lets her captor tattoo his family crest onto her skin, suffering through the annoyance of the needle and the pricking of her skin.
She hates him.
She hates him so much.
Tears stream down her face and she suffers through the humility of being treated like property he was afraid of losing, or like a dog that he was afraid would run off. Her stomach clenches and when he’s finally done, he tuns off the gun and pulls back to admire his work.
Conner walks up to inspect it himself before setting a hand on Jakes shoulder. The sight of his family emblem, black and bold and permanent, on Hanna’s skin fills him with pride. He smiles and flashes his friend a genuine smile. “As always Jake, it been a pleasure doing business with you.”

ML fic: The Hunt
(Warning, Contains Blood, and Graphic Violence)
(Happy Birthday @masked-bixch )
(I hope you enjoy the present at the end)
A man in a trench coat carrying a duffel bag walked into the sewers of Paris.
He was of a decent build and average height, not buff, not scrawny. His hair was short and jet black. He had a pencil mustache and kept most of his face hidden by the use of his hat. If needed he could likely slip into a crowd without notice.
He had heard of the bizzare events that have been occurring in Paris, a place were sad people get possessed by evil bugs and fight superheroes. It would sound insane if there wasn’t video proof.
What really was insane was the recent bounty that popped up. One that many would consider a practical joke. In fact, many thought it was done as a way to flush out greedy hitmen.
10 million Euros for Ladybug and Chat noir.
It was such a rediculous idea. Hiring an assassin to kill superheroes.
He didn’t understand why he was even bothering to check out the legitimacy of this insane bounty. Was it boredom? Perhaps hope for a challenge. He had been in this field for 20 years now, and he really wanted a way to prove himself. Not many people know it, but hitmen are arrogant egomaniacs. Reputation is as valuable as gold. If he could pull it off, then his rep would be without question.
He followed the directions to the rendezvous point, and he was shocked to see that this was legit.
In front of him stood a man in a purple suit and a silver mask, a metal briefcase in his hand. Even he knew that this was the villain of Paris, the super terrorist, Hawkmoth.
“So, it was real.” The man in the trench coat stated, an amused smile graced his face.
“I take it you are interested in the assignment.” The masked man questioned, keeping a serious face.
“I was curious about this strange bounty that popped up. Many people in my circle think it’s a set up to a sting operation.”
“Yet you came anyway?”
“I figured a cop wouldn’t be so brazen with their trap.”
Hawkmoth didn’t react to the man’s comments.
“Can I get the name of the man I’m hiring?”
“You can call me Hunter. You of all people should know the importance of a civillain identity being kept secret.” Hunter mused
Hawkmoth nodded.
“Very well. Hunter, your assignment is to get me the Miraculous of Ladybug and Chat noir, whether they are dead or alive is no concern of mine.”
Hunter looked at the villain before chuckling.
“So, your use of gloomy people has been so ineffective you needed to actually hire someone.”
Hawkmoth was not amused.
“So, if I take the job. Do I get some special equipment to deal with these freaks? Or will I be able to put a bullet in their skulls without a problem.
“The miraculous enhances their natural durability to superhuman levels. So long as their wearing the miraculous, normal weapons won’t be able to do much against them. A typical bullet would be a bug bite at worst.”
Hunter scoffed.
“Figured.”
Hawkmoth smiles.
“But, I can give you the edge you need.”
He reveals his Cane and opens the dome on top of it to reveal a black butterfly.
“A butterfly? I hope you are joking.”
“Trust me. This will be more then enough”
“Alright, show the cash. I need to make sure I aint getting stiffed.”
Hawkmoth tosses the suit case to the assassin.
He opens the case and his eyes go wide, a dark grin appears on his face.
“Let me just check to make sure its real.”
Hunter quickly pulls a bundle of bills and examines them, it was real. It was legit.
“And they say crime doesn't pay.”
“Consider that a down payment. Should you succeed, you will be receiving payments over the course of 5 years.”
Hunter closes the case.
“I want those payments in American bills. Cant exactly stick around here spending this cash.”
“Your demands will be met. Now, shall we begin?”
_______________________________________________________________________
“Another quiet Patrol. Seems that Hawkmoth might have Migrated for the winter.” The cat themed costume quipped.
“I don’t trust this. Don't you find it off Chat noir? Its been over a month since the last akuma attack.” The red clad heroine commented.
“Relax Ladybug, maybe Hawkmoth felt humiliated after the 30th akumatization of Mr.Pigeon and decided to take up stamp collecting.”
Ladybug moved to the edge of the roof they were on to get a better view of the area. The night was quite peaceful, even for the city at night. Something felt very wrong.
Chat noir’s ear twitched as he picked up on something.
“Duck!”
Chat noir tackled Ladybug out of the way just barely avoiding a small incoming projectile.
“What was that?”
Ladybug looked in the direction of where the object came from.
“Roll!”
Ladybug rolled with Chat noir avoiding the next few attacks.
“What in Plagg’s name is going on!?” Chat noir questioned. Confused by the sudden attack.
The two got up.
“We need to move.”
The two started to move across rooftops.
“Looks like Hawkmoth decided to get his lazy butt up again.”
“Chat noir Focus, this akuma is sniping at us.”
“Yea, its probably wants to capture us like with Desperada. We should avoid getting hit.”
The akuma looked away from his scope.
His clothes took the colors of the environment around him. His eyes blood red and his pupils like those of an eagle. He had a black mask cover his face, which also acted similar to his clothing. He was as stealthy as a chameleon. and as deadly as a Cobra.
“Damn, they are quicker then I expected. I guess that explains the high cost.”
He got up from his spot and stretched.
“I guess this is where the real fun begins.”
He goes into his bag to change his sniper rifle for two sleek  Desert Eagle Pistols.
“Gotta admit Hawky. You really suited me up. I can just think of a weapon and bam, I can pull it right out of my bag. I am pretty damn sure these are illegal here.”
A purple butterfly outline appeared over his eyes.
“Remember Hero Hunter, these aren't just copies. Thanks to the powers I gifted you, those weapons are lethal, even to them. That includes if they are turned on you as well.”
“Yea Yea, I am well aware of the powers. I get their magic trinkets, and take them back to you. And I can kill them if I want to.”
“Just be sure you succeed.”
“Noted.”
Hero hunter Dashed along the roof tops after the two. He was planning on doing two quick shots then clean up. But perhaps he can enjoy an up close kill.
_______________________________________________________________________
“We need to find a place to regroup and think of a way to handle this akuma.”
“Agreed, I hate when the akuma hides like this. It is super annoying.” Chat noir spat.
“Good thing I am not hiding.”
The two heroes stopped to see the akuma appear in front of them.
He was wearing camouflage that seemed to shift to the correct colors of his environment at will. He looked like a mix of a soldier and a game hunter. But what caught the two heroes attention were the two pistols in his hands.
“Are those guns? Like actual guns!?” Chat noir questioned in disbelief.
The akuma smirked.
“Desert Eagle. .44 Magnum. Always buy American.” He said as he pointed his gun at the cat.
“Now, hand over the miraculous, or I turn you both in to Swiss cheese.”
“Hate to tell you this, but those won't do anything to us. Got some impressive Invulnerability. At best those will be an annoy...”
Chat noir heard the click of the barrel but was caught off guard by the bullet the went through his thigh
“AGH!!!!” Chat noir Screamed as blood spilled out of the hole. He grabbed his Thigh as he fell down on one knee, reeling from the pain.
“So much for your durability.” He mocked. “Now last chance, or next shot goes through your skull.”
Ladybug felt a chill go down her spine. This was nothing like the other akuma attacks. This was a true life or death battle. Hawkmoth was playing for keeps!
He lined up his next shot for his head but his arm was snagged by a yo-yo. The sudden movement made him release his gun.
“You get away from him you monster!” Ladybug screamed in rage.
The akuma growled and turned his other hand to her, trying to shoot her.
Ladybug quickly jumped in the air, narrowly avoiding the bullets. He cursed as he realized he needed to reload.
Ladybug took this chance to scoop up Chat noir and get him out of there.
“Sneaky bug.” He muttered angrily. He was done playing nice. He didn't care if they were kids. They were making a mockery of him, and he has a reputation to maintain.
He goes into his bag and pulls out something much bigger.
“This will be perfect for Exterminating that bug.”
______________________________________________________________________
“Ghhh.” Chat noir bit his lip to hold in his pain as Ladybug put pressure on the wound.
“Okay, so we have an akuma with weapons that ignore our durability.”Ladybug stated as she was trying to figure out a plan.
“Figured that one out. Thankfully, I can heal quick. I think the bleeding is stopping.”
Chat noir managed to stand up. He grunted in pain as he kept himself standing.
“Oh no you don't. You are staying hidden until I solve this.”
“Like hell I am! You expect me to lay back and let the woman I love get shot at?! You're crazy if you think....”
Chat noir noticed Ladybug was in tears.
“Ladybug...”
“I don't want you to die Chatton! You are injured and that wound will slow you down. There is no way you can dodge bullets in your condition!”
“Ladybug... You still have miraculous healing. Once we beat the akuma, all the damage will be undone. That can't happen if you get killed. You need me out there.” Chat noir reasoned.
Ladybug could see his logic. She hated that he was right, she hated that there was a chance they could die. She hugged him. The two managing to calm their nerves after the embrace.
“Okay, but you need to be careful. I don't want you getting hurt anymore.”
“I promise, I will be alright when this is over.”
“Come out Come out Wherever you are!!”
A voice called out from a distance.
“Seems the hunter is getting impatient.” Chat noir rolled his eyes.
“Well maybe I have something to turn the tide and make the hunter the hunted.”
“Lucky Charm.”
_____________________________________________________________________
The Akuma sits on the roof top, his camouflage active to ensure he was hiding.
He was pretending that he was getting cocky in order to draw the two heroes out. They will be expecting an outright fight. But he had something special planned.
The two peer from their hiding place, looking around to see where he was.
‘Just a little further.’
“Where did he go? I could of sworn I heard him.”
“Keep calm kitty, he might have a trick up his sleeve.”
‘Just pop right out.’
Chat Noir jumped out of the spot.
“Now!”
He presses the button in his hand.
A sting pulls chat noir back just barely avoiding the exploding mine.
“Damn it!” The akuma cursed.
“Nice try, we figured you would try something like that. And now we know where you are. So quit the chameleon act.
The akuma revealed himself and had his arms up.
“Alright. You caught me. I have been outsmarted.”
Ladybug could see that the man was clearly lying through his teeth, he was reaching for something.
“Its a trap.”
The man revealed a massive Gun and aimed it at them.
“Bye bye.”
The akuma let loose a storm of bullets from his automatic machine gun.
Chat noir began spinning his Staff as fast as he could to block the bullets. Ladybug used the opportunity to slick away.
“I never get to use these. They are so much fun!” The akuma roars with laughter. His bullets not as accurate as before with the powerful gun shooting off rapid fire.
Chat noir managed to block a majority of the bullets but he was getting knocked and hit by a few missed ones, He was starting to getting much bloodier and his baton was slowing down. He was biting his lip to avoid screaming in pain. These bullets hurt like hell.
“You’re finished you mangy mongrel.”
He felt something his his hands.
“What the heck.
“He looked up to see Ladybug.
He pointed his gun upward and began firing. A few bullets managed to connect as she was in the air.
“GHH!” She groaned in pain as she rolled from the landing.
“Nice try Bug. But now your going to be exterminated.”
He pointed the gun at her.
“Ladybug!” Chat noir cried out as he tried to move.
Click
“Out of ammo. No matter, I still have ammunition in my pistols and with how weak you two are, it will be easy pickings.” He boasted as he tried to drop his empty gun. But he couldn't.
“Wait... I can't let go of my gun!”
Ladybug smirked as she revealed the super glue she had on her person, she tossed it aside used her Yo-Yo to circle around his legs and tripped him. His pistols and duffel bag flew off of him as he was helpless to get them.
“You got to be kidding me!” He screamed in frustration.
“Chat noir, the bag!”
The cat slowly stumbled to the bag. Ladybug took notice of the dozens of holes in his body, the cat had managed to protect his vital organs, but his body was bloody and he would die from blood loss if the healing didn't happen soon.
“Hurry Chat!”
“Cata...clysm...” Chat noir called out in a weak voice as he fell forward. Touching the bag with his hand, turning it black and causing it to crumble. The black butterfly popped out.
“No!” The akuma shouted.
Ladybug untangled her yo-yo and went to snag the akuma.
“Time to de-evilize.”
She snagged the akuma with her Yo-Yo and purified it. This resulted in the akuma reverting back into his normal form.
“Chat, the akuma is down! Chat?”
She looks to see a large puddle of red liquid pooling around him.
Ladybug looked away, she couldn't freeze up right now. She needed to cast healing.
“Miraculous ladybug!”
She tossed the glue container into the air and she watched as her powers activate.
The damage to the environment vanished, and the pool of blood around chat noir vanished. Ladybug’s leg healed instantly.
“Chat!” She ran to the cat hero, who was still laying face down in the ground.
“Its alright Chat noir. I fixed everything. You are all fixed up.”
The de-akumatized hitman noticed the hero was distracted. He quietly made his way toward his bag. He had some things in there that would not give him plausible deniability over this whole mess.
“Chatton?” Ladybug touched his cheek and noticed he felt cold. She frantically began checking for a pulse.
“No... no no no... We... we won. This shouldn't.”
The assassin slicked away as the hero desperately tried to revive her partner.
“I wonder if hawkmoth will pay for half the job done?”

Is Chat Noir Alive? Is he dead?
As my birthday gift @masked-bixch is the one that gets the final say!
I will write the ending after I get the response from her.
It is her birthday gift, she should get to decide how it all ends.

Tentative Title: Movie Date Originally written: 09/12/16 Word Count: 3,119 Intended plot: Pearl goes on a movie date with Mystery Girl.
Notes: Extremely self-indulgent Pearl/Mystery Girl ship fic written shortly after “Last One Out of Beach City” aired. I was actually super motivated to finish this one but the fall of 2016 was when I got really, really sick and almost died so it unfortunately fell to the wayside and I never got to pick it back up. This is a pretty good example of how I usually write, though, as I usually end up writing the beginning and end of a story first, write in the scenes I have a clear picture of, and then fill in the spaces inbetween. Since this is unfinished, it kinda just jumps between scenes midsentence, so I’ll indicate the scene changes with a — mark
I’m kinda tempted to finish this one too. It’s self-indulgent to the point of it being embarrassing but that made it really easy to write
Side note: You may or may not recall my big rambly post (here) about a fictional horror series called Helltel from a few years back. Well, it was developed entirely due to this fic and tbh it’s likely none of the information I made up was even going to come up in it, I just got carried away lol
It had been several weeks since the night of the rock show and Pearl had already experienced more of Earth and human interaction in that short time than in the last 6000 years she’d spent on the planet. Sure, it was mostly house parties and bonfires, but it was all so different and new and exciting. Part of her wanted to kick herself for not exploring this side of Earth life before, but another, more rational side told her she could never have experienced this way before now. She certainly wouldn’t have felt so comfortable shamelessly flirting with that mystery girl she’d met at the show, and that was really what made those social outings so enjoyable.
Pearl had seen the girl a total of three times after getting her number. The day after the show, after working up her nerve (and goaded on by Amethyst) she borrowed Steven’s phone and gave the girl a call. They finally exchanged names (hers was Sheena, which Pearl thought was lovely) and compliments. Pearl found her just as captivating on the phone as she was in person. After that initial call, Sheena began sending her texts, which Steven explained as short written messages people exchange on phones. They texted back and forth for a day (mostly idle chatter) before Greg stopped by and gave Pearl a new phone. He had said it was so she didn’t have to keep asking to borrow Steven’s and also “for privacy”, whatever that meant. Pearl had refused at first, but Greg insisted, “We can call it a late payment for when you fixed the van. Besides, what’s the point in having money if you can’t share it?”
 —
Pearl was shaken from her musings by someone tapping her in the back. She jolted slightly, startled, and turned to see a short woman with blonde hair. The woman took half a step back, pulling her arm away.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I just wanted to ask if this was the line for the Splatterday event.”
“Oh, uhm…” Pearl looked around. She wasn’t entirely sure what that meant. But there was only the one line, so it had to be, right? “Yes, I think so.”
“Ah, thanks!” The woman said, giving Pearl an appreciative nod and a warm smile. Pearl smiled back. As she went to turn away, the woman spoke again.
“Hey, aren’t you one of Steven’s… uhm, one of the Gems Steven lives with? You're… Pearl, right?”
Oh! That’s why this human looked so familiar, she was a friend of Steven’s! She was one of the donut children from that donut shop Steven liked. She was the nice one, who was always kind to Steven.
“Yes! And you’re from the donut shop, correct?”
“Right! Are you here with Steven? Because I don’t think they’re going to let him in… Or is this a Gem thing? Should we evacuate the theater?” The woman laughed awkwardly, half-joking, half-completely serious.
“Oh, nono, it’s completely safe, especially with me here. And Steven’s at home, I’m actually here with” Pearl said turning to point out her companion. As if on cue, Sheena was already on her way over. She stopped beside Pearl and handed her a small piece of paper.
“Here’s your ticket. Looks like they’re showing Helltel four and five tonight.”
“Oh dear, would I have had to have seen the first three for it to make sense?”
“Naw, they’re not gonna make sense anyway.” Sheena laughed, putting her hands in her pockets and nodding toward the woman Pearl had been talking to. “Who’s your friend?”
“Oh! Sheena, this is… uhm…” Pearl paused as it suddenly occurred to her she didn’t actually know this woman’s name, and though her knowledge of human social etiquette wasn’t the greatest, she was pretty sure calling her “the Donut Child” would definitely be peculiar.
Mercifully, though, the woman interjected.  “Sadie.”
“Yes, right, Sadie! She lives next door to the temple.”
“Well, I don’t live there, I work there. But I’m there so often it does kinda feel like I live there.” The woman, Sadie, laughed. “It’s the Big Donut. I think I’ve seen you in there sometimes, actually.”
“Oh, yeah.” Sheena said, nodding. “Cool place. Decent coffee.”
“Thanks, it comes from a big bag in the backroom.” Sadie said, causing both Sheena and herself to laugh. Pearl didn’t really ‘get it’, but laughed as well.
 —
They followed the crowd into a long, narrow room with a large screen. It had an aisle running down the middle toward the screen with about fifteen rows of four seats on either side of the aisle. After looking around for a moment, Sheena led Pearl to a row of seats to the left of the aisle, five rows from the back. Sheena motioned for Pearl to sit first, and she shuffled into the narrow space between the rows to get to her seat. She then paused, perplexed. The seats were very peculiar, they had normal fabric covered backs but the seats of it were strange, narrow columns that didn’t look at all comfortable to sit on. Nothing Pearl couldn’t handle, of course, so she went about trying to perch on the awkward seat, which proved rather difficult as it wobbled terribly. Then she heard a snort to her right as Sheena stifled a laugh.
“You gotta push the seat down and then sit on it. Like this.” To demonstrate, Sheena pushed down on the odd column on the seat closest to the aisle, causing it to fold out into a typical-looking cloth-covered seat. She then sat down on it, settled in, and gestured for Pearl to try. Pearl looked at the seat in front of her and gingerly pushed down on the folded seat. It folded out into a seat just as Sheena’s had. Pearl released her hold on it and it snapped back into its original, folded position. Fascinated, she pushed it down and released it a couple more times. It creaked audibly but otherwise seemed to operate perfectly. Finally, she sat down on it, testing her weight on it.
“Oh, it folds up when not in use to make space and it folds out for use, with one’s weight keeping it down. That’s very clever!” Pearl marveled. It was a simple mechanism, but she was always impressed by what humans were capable of building. Primitive, compared to Gem technology, of course, but humans always seemed to figure out ways to make what they needed or clever ways to engineer something to make it more useful. That was probably her favorite thing about humans. In the beginning they had nothing and they figured out how to make everything they needed, taught themselves how. In this way they kind of reminded her of… well, herself.
“Yeah, I guess it is kinda clever.” Sheena said, amused. She leaned on the armrest between them. “Y’know, you’re really cute when you geek out about this stuff. Makes me think about stuff different than I used to.”
“Oh! Well, I’m happy to hear that
 —
The room got louder and louder as more people continued to pour into the theater, taking seats and idly chatting. A human couple squeeze by Pearl and Sheena, murmuring ‘excuse me’s, and took the seats just to Pearl’s left. Pearl’s nerves prickled and she removed her arm from the armrest between her and the stranger, shifting slightly to be closer toward Sheena. She bounced her leg and absently scratched at the worn fabric on the armrest to her right. Pearl didn’t mind the crowds, really, she had expected it and prepared herself for it. But the noise level rising, the heat from all the bodies, the bright fluorescent lights, and the feeling of being boxed in… it was just a bit much all at once. It brought up unpleasant feelings and memories. She shook her head to dispel them, she wasn’t going to dwell on the past and ruin the evening,
“Are people going to be able to hear the movie with all this noise?” Pearl muttered.
“They’ll be quieter once the lights are off. It buggin’ you?”
“Hmm? Oh, no, I’m fine, I’m fine.” Pearl said. After a few seconds, she felt Sheena’s hand rest on her own. She stopped scratching at the armrest and turned her wrist so she could hold Sheena’s hand. It was comforting. She bounced her leg at a slower pace.
“Y’know, we could leave if you’re not feeling it.”
“No, no, I’m alright. I want to do this. I’m just nervous.”
“Hmm. Do you want to switch seats? You could be on the aisle, just get up and go if you need to.”
“Oh,” Pearl looked around. Maybe it would help to have that option. “Could we? If it’s alright with you.”
“Psh, yea, I’m cool wherever.” Sheena said, letting go of Pearl’s hand and standing up. She stepped into the aisle to allow Pearl to move over to her seat, then squeezed by Pearl and sat down.
Pearl sighed. It was such a little change, but it really did make her feel much better. She didn’t feel boxed in anymore, having that free space to her side was doing wonders.
“Thank you, this is much better. Sorry for being a bother.”
“Eh, it’s nothing. Sometimes you just gotta feel like you can go whenever. That’s what I like about my bike, I used to have a car but it always made me feel like I was stuck.”
“Oh? I’ll have to try that out sometime. I used to get that feeling when I’d pilot spaceships but… well I don’t get much opportunity to do that these days.”
Sheena laughed. “Well, I doubt it’s gonna feel like flying a spaceship. But it is pretty cool anyway. I could take you for a ride on in sometime.”
“Oh! That would be lovely. I-” Pearl stopped talking and sat up straighter when the lights suddenly turned off. The large screen lit up and after flickering for a few seconds began running advertisements for the theater.
Sheena leaned over to Pearl and whispered “It’s about to start, so we can’t talk too loud.” Pearl nodded. She did know that much (she got the run down of movie theater etiquette from Steven) but appreciated that Sheena thought to tell her.
The screen turned black and slowly faded into an image of a dilapidated hotel on a hill, shrouded in fog. Rain battered the building in a way that was clearly not actually rain, probably some sort of sprinkler set up. It looked very fake, in Pearl’s opinion. The movie cut to the interior of the building
Pearl turned to walk away, then turned back. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. “Sheena, wait.”
“Yea?” Sheena paused, her helmet partially on her head. She took it back off and hung it on the handle of her motorcycle.
Pearl took a few steps closer, wringing her hands for a moment before clasping them together, to stop herself from fidgeting too much. “I… uhm… I had a very lovely time tonight. Wonderful, in fact. I hope you did as well.”
“I did.” Sheena said, amused.
“Good! Good. And, well, after such a nice night I’ve heard it’s customary to… well, I mean, I’m not an expert on human dating practices by any means, of course, but I thought it would be nice if…”
“Yea?” Sheena closed the distance between them, causing Pearl to need to look up at her.
“What I’m trying to say is,” Pearl took a breath. She could do this. “I would very much like to kiss you, if… if that isn’t too forward. I completely understand if you would prefer not to, of course, I was just thinking…”
Sheena didn’t say anything, instead she brought one hand to rest on Pearl’s cheek, gently guiding Pearl to tilt her head up. She leaned down slightly and Pearl stretched up, their lips met and…
It was amazing. Sure, it wasn’t the bombastic fireworks like the first time she kissed Rose (which was the first time she kissed anyone, ever), after a hard won victory during the Gem War, but it still felt electric. Kissing a human was so much different from kissing a Gem, Pearl found. Gems can simulate the human body in many ways, simulate skin texture, teeth, saliva, all that. But it’s just a simulation, incredible but never quite the same. Humans… humans are cohesive yet imperfect. Always imperfect. There’s just no way to properly replicate the random imperfection of the human body accurately. Her lips were warm and soft, but not uniformly so. Some spots were softer, wetter, warmer. And it changed, very slightly, even over the short time they kissed. And that lip ring! Pearl wasn’t quite sure what that would feel like, in fact it had puzzled her because surely it would just be in the way? But strangely it wasn’t. It was noticeably there, yes, but it didn’t seem out of place. It was a cooler, harder texture comparatively, and interesting in a good way. Everything about this felt… right, imperfect and different yet completely right.
It felt like it lasted ages but it was only a few seconds before they pulled apart. Pearl stared up at Sheena, breathless. Figuratively speaking, of course, as she didn’t really need to breathe and yet felt out of breath all the same. “Wow…”
Sheena laughed, soft and low. “Yeah, wow… Y’know, I gotta tell ya, I’ve been waiting to kiss you for a while now. Not that I mind taking things slow, of course.”
“Oh goodness, I’m sorry! I wasn’t sure how long it’s customary for humans to wait.” Pearl blushed, embarrassed. Everything on Earth moved so fast! It was hard for her to gauge how time worked for humans. Gems, being ageless, didn’t really have need to rush. “I didn’t want to rush into anything or pressure you.”
“Naw, it’s alright, I get it. There’s not any customary way of doing these things, really. It’s just what feels right, I guess. Some people go fast, others go slow. It’s all good.” Sheena paused, thinking, then said “What’s customary where you’re from?”
“Oh, nothing. Gems don’t really… have these sorts of relationships. Not on Homeworld anyway. We weren’t meant to or allowed to. Romantic relationships were completely unheard of. Kissing as a concept doesn’t exist there, or didn’t, I suppose I’m not really up on how things are there now.”
“Damn, really? Wow. That’s… that’s really awful. I’m sorry.”
Pearl hummed in agreement. “It was. I was on Earth for several years before I learned what kissing was. And even more before I ever tried it myself.”
“Oh, you’re really behind, then.”
“Behind?”
“On kissing. You should’ve been kissed way more in your life. But I’ll be more than happy to help you catch up.” Sheena said, leaning in.
“Oh!” It was a line. Cheesy, maybe, but Pearl appreciated it. “Oh, I think I’d like that.” She leaned in as well and they kissed again.
They broke after a moment. Pearl sighed, happily. “You know, in the beginning, I thought the act seemed rather messy and unpleasant.”
“But you don’t anymore?”
“Oh, goodness no.”
“That’s good.” Sheena said, and they kissed again.
“Well,” Pearl started, when they broke for breath (for Sheena, anyway). “I suppose it still is but-” They kissed again. “-with the right people it somehow-” Again. “-feels right and it doesn’t bother me. But-” Again. “-if I think of it in the abstract I suppose-” Again. “-it is still somewhat unpleasant. So-” Again. “-it’s more about the company than the-”
“Pearl?” Sheena sighed, breathless (or perhaps just exasperated).
“Yes?”
“Not that I’m not interested, ‘cause I am, but I think this would go smoother if you stopped talking so much.”
“Oh, right, sorry!”
“S’alright, no need to be sorry. I just think you’d enjoy it more if you lost yourself in the feeling, y’know? Or just try it out, at least.” Sheena said. Pearl nodded. They kissed again.
“I’m just nervous.” Pearl said when they broke again. Sheena hummed sympathetically and they kissed again. “I have a tendency to ramble when I’m nervous.” Again. “I don’t even realize-”
“Pearl.” Oh, right, rambling again. They kissed again. And again.
“… Sorry.” Pearl squeaked out between kisses. She couldn’t help it, she had to! Sheena didn’t respond, but instead continued to kiss Pearl while laughing softly into her mouth. It was a kind laugh, not cruel or mocking, just… amused. It created a pleasant, humming sensation in Pearl’s mouth. It was infectious, too, and she couldn’t help but laugh along with her. After a moment they stopped and just continued kissing, with no further interruptions.
They continued like that for a while, and Pearl had to admit Sheena was right. It was rather nice to just… lose herself in the feeling. To just fall into that rhythm and that pleasant feeling of exploration and just being with someone. It was nice. They pulled apart again and neither felt compelled to continue, just allowing themselves to look at one another in silence, save for the sound of breathing.
“Alright.” Sheena sighed, reluctant. “I really should go now. Got work in the morning.”
“Ah yes, and you humans do need a certain amount of sleep to function properly! I’m sorry if I kept you from it.”
“Naw, it was worth it.” Sheena gave Pearl one last kiss before turning and walking back to her motorcycle. She straddled the seat and put her helmet on, adjusting the strap. “See you Saturday, probably.”
“Yes, with luck! And, uhm, catch you later!”
Sheena laughed. “Should I fall.” She started her motorcycle and drove off.
Pearl watched her drive away until she disappeared behind some buildings and the roar of her motorcycle’s engine could no longer be heard. Then she stood in silence for a moment, just breathing, just being. She was so… proud of herself. She was socializing with humans, she was experiencing Earth. Not for Rose and not even for Steven, but for herself. She went on a real official human date for the first time! She was nervous, but she did it. She felt happy at this moment, genuinely happy. Best of all, she felt little to no guilt about feeling happy. Out of everything, Pearl was probably most proud about that.
With a contented sigh, Pearl finally turned and walked to Greg’s car. The parking lot of the movie theater was mostly empty now and dead silent. She hummed softly, getting into the car and starting the engine. She flicked on the Earth radio, fiddling with the dial until she found a tune that sounded half-way pleasant, and set a course back to the temple.

"Go away," Kasumi hisses over another stifled dinner. "You've been here nearly everyday for the past two weeks. Don't you have a home to go back to? You're rich; you can buy, like, five houses!"
Bakugou stares at her across the table. "I think you severely overestimating my income, brat," he says dryly.
"Don't lie." She huffs. "I read your in-depth profile on Hero Weekly. You're the no. 1 hero in the country and you make plenty of banks last year with just sponsorships alone."
“This stalkerish tendency of yours.” Bakugou gives her a look. "It's disturbing how much you and Deku are alike."
"I did my homework because I'm thorough like that." Kasumi scowls, arm folded over her chest. "You have to know your enemy to win. And don't even think of dodging the subject!"
Bakugou shrugs, neither denying nor agreeing to the earlier statement. "What if I just like the food here?" he muses.
She gives him a doubtful glare. "Then why do you look like you're eating glass everytime you take a bite of something?"
"You don't like my cooking?" Papa asks, poking his head out of the kitchen where he was washing the aftermath of their dinner. Hurt wrung all over his face.
Bakugou grimaces. "That wasn't what I said—" but the rest of his sentence is swallow by Kasumi's interruption. "I love your cooking, Papa," she chimes in loyally. At Papa's shyly relief smile she swivels her attention back to Bakugou, pinning him in his place with a severe glare.
Papa always been sensitive about his cooking. When they were living with Grandma Inko she did all the cooking because Papa was too busy juggling multiple jobs to keep them afloat. Between school, work, and a raising a kid, he didn't have a lot of practice in the kitchen, but does he tried anyway. And she loves him for it.
Kasumi leans over the table and drops her voice to a low ominous hiss. "I will cut you where you sit if you hurt his feelings again."
Completely unfazed by her threat, Bakugou sits back and grins sharply. "I know you never finish all of the foods on your plate," he says coolly in turn.
Kasumi doesn't jump over the table and tackle him to the ground, only because Papa raised her right. And also, because she can feel Papa hovering close behind her back. "Is that true, Kasumi-chan?" Papa asks, the words catch in the air in an anxious hitch. "You really don't like my cooking either?"
She hops down from her chair and turns to toward him, finding she standing in directly in front of him. Papa's fully out of the kitchen now, wearing a concerned frown on his face, which always make her antsy. There are few things worth protecting in this world and Papa's smile is one of them.
"It's not that! I just have a small stomach!" she insists loudly, excuses tumbling out of her mouth like broken dam. Papa isn't necessarily bad in the kitchen. He just got a rotating stable of recipes that he uses again and again. There's only so much chicken kaarage she can take per week before she become sick of chicken.
A throat clears behind her and she sighs heavily before snapping, "What?!"
"Two days ago, I saw you devoured two packs of daifuku that I'd brought with me like a living garbage compactor and that was all after dinner," Bakugou unnecessarily contributes to their conversation.
Kasumi's hands flexes at her side. Here's the thing she isn't necessary a violent person despite her barbed tongue and the bruised fists because it's not in her, but Bakugou Katsuki is seriously pushing all her buttons tonight. He'd cut through all her pretenses and lies and waved it right in her face to mock her.
She'd never felt more exposed.
"I'm sorry Papa and you can ground me after this," she says, rolling up her sleeves, "but I'm going to punch him. In the face, preferably.”
Papa's eyes widen and he abruptly catches her by the shoulders, his hands clenching down to keep her in place. "I would really, really like it if you don't."
"But I—" she protests loudly and earnestly, bouncing on the heels of her feet, "what if I only punch him a little? He’s a pro-hero, he can take it! It wouldn't even hurt him!”
Papa shakes his head. "No, Kasumi-chan," he says. Staunch in his resolution. And as firm as the floor they stand on.
And that's all it takes.
Here is the truth she holds above all else: Papa loves her absolutely, there is no one in this world who loves her more than him, and he would do anything for her, but when he make a decision he's a mountain and he won't be move. Even in spite of her. And specifically for her.
For all the good of the world, it hasn't been kind to her and Papa. So on her worst days, she's a raging inferno as hate and contempt burns within her, but Papa is the rain that comes and washes away the firestorm in her heart. Only in his arms does she ever find her piece of peace.
She thinks if Papa hasn't raised her with such loving and gentle hands, she would have grown to be a spiteful and angry child, who rages against the word blindly. "Okay, Papa," she says solemnly, shoulders slumping, but firm. "Anything you say. I won't do it, but only because you told me."
Papa's eyes are bright as he smiles at her. And that's all she'd ever wanted.
"If you two are quite done with your melodramatic theater," Bakugou humorlessly drawls. And just like that her good mood is easily broken by that annoying voice behind her.
She rolls her eyes as she turns and scoffs. "What you mean?!" she demands hotly, dropping all pretense of her usual manners in front of him, but then again she never have any for him in the first place. She never use such an offensive and coarse language in her life, but her wild temperament is all his. Kasumi may treat most adults with severe politeness, but rarely do they get her respect right off the bat. Her respect has to be earned the hard way; they have to actually put the leg work for it.
"Aren't you tired of being leashed by Deku because of your temper?" Bakugou deliberates, cocking a brow up. "You act like a mad dog half of the time, yapping away at me and then Deku has to run over to calm you down. You sulk and he has to console you. You both get emotional over it. Rinse and repeat. This is honestly getting boring to watch." The glare of his red eyes is unforgiving as they pinned her down.
Papa coughs awkwardly as he tries to stifle a laugh, because of course he would think this is all amusing. He's completely biased. "Papa," she scolds, tapping her feet impatiently because he's her Papa. He's supposed to be on her side.
Papa winces and softly says, "Sorry."
Consoled, she snaps to Bakugou with an accusatory finger. "And you, stop interfering in our family matter, Unnecessary!" she hisses spitefully, venom dropping from every word that pass her lips. "I know what you're trying to do." She glares. "You want to break us apart by exposing me so you get your nefarious hands all over my Papa. Think again! That will never happen!"
Bakugou has the absolute gall to rolls his eyes at her. "Yea, because I have so much free time to fuck around and love putting myself through utter hell just to get in Deku's pants," he says, sarcasm so thick in his voice that he's drowning in it.
Kasumi scowls, arms folded.
"Just stop coddling Deku, he's a grown man and your dad so fucking treats him like one. He doesn't need you to baby his ass," he plows on, relentlessly and unforgivingly. "If you don't like something, tell it to him straight. He won't hold it against you for the rest of his life. He’s not that stupidly petty."
Kasumi bristles. "You don't know—" the rest of her sentence is cut of when a hand lands on her shoulder. "Papa?" she says, Bakugou's earlier words making her wary.
"It's okay, Kasumi-chan, you can tell me," says Papa. His voice soft and terrifyingly assuring. "I can handle it."
Chewing on her bottom lip in thought, she tilts her head back to get a good look at him. It's ironic that she could slay giants and face the world with nothing but sheer grits and the wits on her, fearless against everything but her Papa who made her feel like a hapless babe every time he look at her with consideration.
But when all she see is the warmth in his familiar green eyes and the encouraging smile meeting her, she says, "I do you love your cooking," and it's as true as she can be. Then, with consideration, she adds, "But not all the time. Maybe you can try a new dish every now and then?"
She may be young, but she knows that sometime love isn't some grand gesture, it's the small things that matter the most. Even if it mean eating chicken karaage four times a week and every week till she's sick to her stomach and couldn't even stand the sight of chicken anymore.
Inhaling, she watches as a gauntlet of confusion runs a course through his face. "Oh." He blinks. "Oh," he says as realization finally dawns on him at last. "I see." He smiles apologetically, touching the back of his neck. "Well, I can do that. We'll try something new tomorrow!" he says cheerfully. There’s plenty of sincere enthusiasm put into it that she doesn’t think it sound like he’s faking it. Papa always been a terrible liar, but that why he has her in the first place.
She lets out her breath, long and heavy as though she didn't even realize she was holding it in the entire time she was waiting for his answer. But. No more chicken karaage. No more chicken. Oh my god. All her earlier anxiety is washed away just like that.
Papa hums thoughtfully. "Now, what would you like to eat tomorrow?"
Excited, Kasumi opens her mouth, but Bakugou lets out a loud grunt. "Yea, okay, you make it as though picking up new dishes is as easy at that. Certainly not with your rudimentary cooking skill," he says needlessly.
"Hey, back off," she snarls, ticked. "You don't even know what you're talking about so don't start with me."
"I cook," he says as casual as one would be.
"You cook?" she says, doubtful.
"I cook," he repeats, folding his arms across his chest languidly. "Not a professional chef by any mean, but better than Deku."
"Liar," she defends, loyal to the end.
"I live alone so who the hell will put food on the table if not myself?" he retorts. "And eating out everyday is stupid and a waste of my time and money, so yea I fucking cook, brat."
Chagrin, she mumbles, "It probably taste horrible."
He narrows his eyes. "It actually taste fucking awesome, you ungrateful little shit."
"Kacchan is actually good in the kitchen," Papa chirps up, because he's weak like that. Always the first to come to Bakugou’s defense. "He'd learned it all from his father, your Grandpa Masaru, who is an amazing cook!"
Kasumi clicks her tongue in annoyance as she remains unmoved.
Bakugou scoffs. "Fine," he says, sitting up. "I'll bring ingredients over tomorrow and give you hell."
"And what if I don't like it, huh?" she fires back.
He shrugs, unbothered. "Then I'll try again and again till you do."
She snorts in disbelief. "I highly doubt that," she says. "I'm picky and hard to please but okay, you can try to wow me."
"Yea, I don't think it'll be that hard when you can vaccum Deku's shitty chicken karaage everyday, your tastebud is probably already dead," he says wryly. Her barbed tongue definitely came from him.
"Hey," Papa says, and there's a visible sulk in his voice, "it's not that bad! You ate it too!"
Bakugou's gaze flickers to the side as twins’ blotch of red rises to his cheeks. "Because I'm a fucking dumbass who really like you a shit ton so I put up with it for you," he admits.
There's nothing smooth about it, it's clumsy and cringe worthy to hear; there’s absolutely nothing romantic about it, but Papa, who is a soft soul, just melts under them. "Kacchan," he breathes, and it's entire world in tied up in the word
Kasumi grimaces, because ewe. Gross. And resolves to not get her stomach sick again with by their disgusting display of affection by pushing Papa back in the kitchen to hide.
Later when she's tucked up in bed with Papa and Bakugou had when home to his own apartment, she mulls over the entire sequence of events leading up to Bakugou's promise to come back everyday to cook for them until she's pleased, and buries her face in a pillow to let out a silent scream of outrage because she'd been outplayed. Hard. And nobody to blame but herself.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm. tagged by: @dansiere whom im care tagging: extremely informative meme for ppl who have lots of cross-over interactions, i encourage u to steal it from me anyway BUT @sternenteile @twelvians @stellamris @grandtales
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless / complicated
Is your character popular in the fandom? YES / NO. [ he is a very, very minor NPC that i’ve essentially wrested from the game with my grubby hands; Gerson is a merchant NPC found in Waterfall, the third area of the game focused with water themes. he has less than 100 lines of dialogue (but jam-packed full of info) and doesn’t even have an overworld sprite. although noted to have a history with multiple major characters, it’s not often i’ve seen him be the main focus of any fanfics or art pieces. ]
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. [ put that faaaaaaaar away from me please tyty ]
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. [ i personally believe that Gerson is a strong and potentially powerful monster with fighting capability that could rival some of the stronger Monsters in the Underground due to his background as a fighter during the Human-Monster War, but since has waned in both reputation and fighting skill. we never fight him in game and as such, will never see how he compares numerically, but it’s clear from his dialogue that he knows how to fight professionally/cleverly and would have given a hard challenge. ]
Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. [ i mentioned before that Gerson has ties with lots of major characters - I hardly see it being put into action or talked about! i also have a soft spot for elder/older characters in general since they seem to be overlooked in favor for younger characters that carry the action of plots - which I understand and totally get, but I still like to put these characters out there for the sake of it ]
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. [ he was a funny merchant dude that said “wahaha” a whole bunch of times and carried a magnifying glass; sure he and Frisk would have been good friends after the golden ending but most people have forgotten about their interaction with Gerson once out of Waterfall ]
Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. [ as one of the older if not oldest Monsters in the Underground, or from his reputation as the “Hammer of Justice” from wartime. he is also a historian and is noted to have written a few of the books in the Librarby. definitely known in the Underground, but probably only in that community ]
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. [ as mentioned before, a benefactor to the community and maybe even a sagely figure. a source of wisdom (even if cheeky) and a person of stability ]
How strictly do you follow canon?  — ehhhhhhhhhh both extremely canon compliant and then hands off the wheel, let jesus drive me away~ i only have so much canon material to work with so i have milked as much as offered to me, then went off to forge my own path in order to patch up the missing holes then add a few sprinkles. the base of the character is all there, but if you really want to get invested with him (or me) then we have a lot to walk through.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  old tortoise (NOT TURTLE) guy sells knick-knacks and cracks jokes, knows everyone’s dirty secrets but thinks they’re just funny to think about them than use them. an elder in the community who has stories to tell and lessons to teach, who has lived through half of recorded history and now spends his time just trying to make things around him interesting. a war veteran who protects his community and understands the horror of the world, but keeps eyes looking into the future even in the face of grimness itself. plays the accordion and harmonica, could probably square dance if he knew what that was. will call you kiddo.
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  little to no motivation to find a passion for himself that would benefit or service just himself; his entire sense of worth comes from servicing others in some way (being a soldier and protecting people; recording history in order to teach future generations; maintaining a shop in order to literally service others) and lack of action due to decrepitude in old age. close-minded compared to other Monsters, as he doesn’t actually take to think of humans or outsiders kindly; judgmental to the point of being racist. proud and dislikes being one-upped that it could lead to pettiness, and despite his positive outlooks, very pessimistic worldview.
What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  funfact: Gerson is my first tumblr RP muse ever, and since i was worried about duplicate anxiety when i first started i specifically wrote him since he was a smaller character with less attention - i’ve since learned i have no anxiety about it so it’s no longer a problem, but what keeps me going today is the challenge of writing someone so different from me. the elder aesthetic along with homely, almost cottagecore kind of vibe is also appealing, and the humor that comes with gerson is a joy to write out.
What keeps your inspiration going?  —  reading literature, music, artwork, pinterest, replaying the game, and doing little hobbies that would embody the character (collecting or sewing, for example) are things i can do by myself, but with other people i have the most drive when i can have friendly and nonpersonal arguments/debates about character motives or about source material like what made a character act like this or that, or about really anything as long as it makes me seriously think about characters critically and force me to recognize flaws.
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? [ unfortunately i’m not a tortoise monster who lived for probably centuries if not decades older than myself, but i enjoy writing older characters and hope that other ppl see the potential gerson has like i do ]
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF? [ you know when you have a concept and in your own mind you can see it clearly, without fuzziness or confusion, but you can’t seem to put it clearly into words without it turning into an essay because you need to connect all the other points that’s in the single concept you envisioned? yea. ]
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO [ bro i should.. ]
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO [ hmu if you got pinterest and i’ll give u tons and tons of boards ]
Are you confident in your portrayal?  YES / NO / SORT OF? [ this is unfair to answer as (AFAIK) i am the only person writing Gerson in... any capacity. despite that i like to think i bring out the humorous side of him, and show ppl that he and other NPCs are tons of potentials and shouldn’t be overlooked because they aren’t popular ]
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO. [ i always believed my style and my skill in not only PSDs or aesthetics, but analysis or understanding was always a bit plain, without much flourish or complexity. while that is appealing on its own and has its own merits, i can’t help but feel i can always push myself to do a little more, add a little flavor, or paint an image that could only be done in writing. although i am doing enough to get the job done, i’m searching for a certain voice of writing that i like and want to integrate into creative writing in order to make it more personalized and more engaging. ]
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO. / SORTA. [ i despise pussyfooting and will often tell ppl straight up if i have a problem with them or something about them; straightforwardness, honesty, and integrity are some of my core values and that includes being harsh if it comes to it in order to keep order ]
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  assuming it’s rooted in goodwill or from a point of analysis, absolutely! it’s one of the direct sources for growth and getting better at any craft, but as Tumblr loves to be.... jumpy, i’m always cautious when its not from someone i know.
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  YEA BUDDYYYYY
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  absolutely, i thrive off friendly discourse as i mentioned.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  if we don’t discuss it as above, in lit any other case i’d say “well there are other blogs to follow” but since i’m like 99% sure i’m the only gerson blog that isn’t applicable lmao; the point still stands that everyone has the freedom to write a character as they wish. there are valid reasons to dislike a portayal but not a lot of valid reasons to attack someone for it - with the exception of ppl being gross. stop that, nasty.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  strangely. it’s not my job to make people like a character, you either like them or not. if you dislike them for unreasonable points then, to leave in the previous response, “clowns will be clowns, no matter what you do. I just don’t get why you would follow someone if you hate their character to begin with.”
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  of course, as long as it’s polite and all that jazz!
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  depends on the meaning - i like making new friends and i find it easy to talk to new people, be it about roleplay or other things like organizing video game play sessions. however, i also have on multiple occasions have approached ppl privately saying “this is annoying/this is problematic/this is inappropriate, stop” and been met with general disdain for voicing such so Who Knows..... (tm). at least on a private level. here, publicly, i’m pretty relaxed! memes and jokes are abound. as long as a person can be mature and responsible for their actions we can vibe, yo.

The Ouros Talisman
Theme: @slayersweek‘s July prompt, Treasure Genre: Comedy Rating/Warnings: K+ Words: 1,366 Summary: When Lina and company raids a bandit hideout, Zelgadis goes off by himself to find a legendary item that would cure him. Unfortunately when he finds it, it only gives him another problem to worry about.
“So… We’re going into a fortress…”
“Yea.”
“… That’s occupied by a horde of bandits and who knows what else…”
“Pretty much.”
“… And we’re doing this because you heard they had something that would turn you back to normal?”
“That’s about it.”
Lina let out a sigh while placing a hand on her forehead. “How could you not know about this, Gourry? Zel already explained this before we came here.”
“Well, yea, but…” Gourry rubbed the back of his head, looking at her with a goofy smile. “I kinda forgot on the way here.”
After letting out a groan, Lina whacked Gourry on the head before yelling a few choice words at him. Zelgadis watched them as he questioned whether he should’ve gone alone. He knew he would have a better chance sneaking in and taking what he was seeking. But Lina was Lina, and she wouldn’t back down from going after bandits. And with that, the rest followed suit as they hid in the woods outside of the fortress.
“Ummm… Mister Zelgadis?” Amelia’s voice snapped him back to reality. “Are you sure that this will help you become human again?”
Zelgadis remained silent for a moment, and then he answered, “I’m not sure. But if those legends about the Ouros Talisman are true, then it may be my best chance to get rid of this cursed body.”
“And if it doesn’t, we can probably sell it along with anything else these guys have.” Lina smiled with an evil glint in her eyes, much to everyone’s unease. Leave it to her to think about profit.
“Anyway…” Zelgadis looked at the others in all his seriousness. “I’m going on ahead. I need you three to cause a distraction so I can sneak in and look.”
Upon hearing that, Lina snapped out of her thoughts and turned to Zelgadis. “Now wait a minute, Zel! How come you’re sneaking in while we get to fight?!”
“That’s right, Mister Zelgadis! We should at least stick together!” Amelia said as she too looked at him.
The chimeric man sighed, not wanting to deal with this. “Fine then. But once we get inside, I’m going on alone to find the Ouros Talisman. I don’t want to be caught up in any unnecessary messes you make.”
Lina glared for a moment, not too pleased with that last sentence. Yet with much consideration, she relented. “Okay.”
“But Miss Lina-”
“Look, Amelia, Zel’s pretty hard set on going in by himself,” Lina began to explain to the princess. “If he wants to head off and get into trouble, then who are we to stop him.”
Zelgadis looked away, letting out a small cough. “Glad to hear you say it.”
“So, how are we going to get in?” Gourry asked as he looked over at Lina.
“Oh, that’s easy, Gourry.” Lina smirked. “We’ll just do as we usually do.”
Amelia thought about it for a moment before becoming flustered. “You don’t mean…?”
“That’s right!” Lina held out her hands, materializing a small flash of flame in them. She then exclaimed, “FIREBALL!”
A large fireball appeared in her hands which she threw at one of the fortress’ walls, demolishing it. Any bandits who were on guard duty were unfortunately caught in the blast. Then, the group ran in where they were greeted by more bandits along with some low-class monsters. With the crowd of thugs closing in, the four of them readied themselves. Lina and Amelia holding up their hands while Gourry and Zelgadis took out their swords. Together, they lunged themselves at the horde with vigor.
Lina threw a couple of her best spells easily incapacitating a bunch of them at once. The others didn’t hold back either. Gourry used his sword to fight and Amelia knocked them out with her empowered fists. Zelgadis also took care of a few, but he was more focused on getting into the fortress instead of the battle itself. Using a Freeze Arrow on a couple of guards, he headed inside the foreboding stronghold.
Once in the fortress, Zelgadis started his search for the Ouros Talisman. He traversed the maze of hallways and corridors, checking each room for where it could’ve been stashed in. But door after door, he didn’t find where the bandits were keeping their stash. He continued still, determined to find what he was looking for. Upon the last door of the third corridor, he finally found the loot the bandits had stolen.
Zelgadis entered the treasure chamber, surprised by the amount there was. It was definitely enough to make Lina happy for a couple months or so. Even the relics they had collected looked to be of top quality. He soon took notice of a trinket in the mound, an intricate design of a serpent biting its own tail with a jewel inside it. He walked over to the pile, picking up the piece and examining it further.
“So, this is the Ouros Talisman, huh?” The chimera mused as he held it in his hand. It certainly looked like what the talisman was describe as. But the only way to tell was if this would make him human again. Of course, any research he had already done didn’t described the method on how to use it. After some thinking, he came up with an idea that he considered a good way of finding out.
Holding out from his body, he started to shake it furiously. “Come on, you stupid piece of junk!”
Though not the most professional approach, it was all he could think of at the time. Waving a relic around while demanding it to do something usually worked. Maybe with terrible consequences, but it did. After flailing it around for a time, he considered also chucking it until he heard it hum.
“What the?” He stopped and stared at the talisman, seeing the jewel flickered for a bit. Then suddenly, it flashed an overwhelming light which caused him to fall over and blacked out.
Zelgadis groaned, feeling dazed after that burst of light. His head still felt fuzzy and he couldn’t feel his legs. Actually, he felt something below his waistline, but it certainly wasn’t his legs. Lifting himself up, he glanced down at his lower body, eyes widening at the sight he saw.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
---
The others had finished their brawl when they heard sounds of screaming. Amelia, recognizing it immediately, looked over at Lina with concern. “That sounds like Mister Zelgadis!”
“It definitely does, Amelia,” Lina responded before turning to her other companion. “Come on, Gourry. We need to see what Zel’s gotten into this time.”
“Right!” Gourry finished tying up the last of the bandits and followed after Lina and Amelia. They ran into the fortress and through the hallways, making their way to the treasure chamber. Once there, they readied themselves for whatever terrible thing there was. But soon they relaxed their guard when they saw the sight in front of them.
It was Zelgadis, arms crossed and glowering. For the most part, he still looked the same, or at least his top half was. His legs though were replaced by a long serpentine tail that had the same stone-like skin. After being so quiet, Lina let out a couple of snickers before going into full-blown laughter.
Amelia turned to Lina with a mad look on her face. “Miss Lina! This isn’t a laughing matter!”
“Yea, Lina. Zel has it rough already.” Gourry said while glancing over at her as well.
“Yea, yea, I know.” Lina subsided her laughter before looking back at Zelgadis. “So that’s what the Ouros Talisman does.”
“Unfortunately.” Zelgadis sighed, letting out a forked tongue. “I probably should have looked more into those texts about it. When they say, ‘Shall make one shed their burdens and skin’, I thought it meant curing their afflictions. Not this.”
“Don’t worry, Mister Zelgadis! I’m sure we’ll figure out a way to get you back to normal!” Amelia smiled, eyes blazing with optimism.
Gourry nodded. “Yea, and maybe find some new pants for you when you get legs again.”
Zelgadis just sighed again, his new tail twisting and turning. If there was anything he knew, this was going to be a long journey.

Casper High Ch. 8
Danny was used to handling his things on his own. Ever since team Phantom was disbanded because his best friends had to move out to whole different states and his sister moved out to live at college, Danny has been on his own. So you can say Danny knew how to keep things to himself. Hell, he even kept things from his two best friends all the time. He didn't like having people worry about him, always feeling like he was a burden. So the whole situation with the Winchesters just made his carefully constructed system of coping a little worse.
He couldn't imagine breaking the Winchester's trust. Every time his injuries, from either his parents or hunting, were too harsh, he'd go to them as promised. The first time, it took a lot of arguing with himself to finally go to the Winchesters for help. It had been a particularly harsh 'lab session' with his parents that left him with a little more than the usual; the wounds weren't the worst he had, but the placement of the injuries made it a little too hard to reach on his own.
He was prepping a story, anything to sound less harsh than the reality that had actually occurred. But the moment he knocked uninvited, Dean regarded him with one look before ushering him in. No explanation was asked for, nor was Danny made uncomfortable- the only questions that came were to try and figure out just how bad the gashes were. Sam had quietly helping his brother along, with not much word of his own.
"Danny, come on!" Tucker laughed, waving through the camera. "I wanna know the details." Tucker finished the comment with a wiggle of his brows. Danny blushed, trying to laugh it off as his goth best friend laughed along in the taunts.
"Guys come on, it's not like that." Danny shook his head, his hair following in an attempt to hide the blush. It really wasn't what they think, right? Like just because he made a new friend doesn't mean it has to be anything like the two were implying...
"Come on Danny." Sam shook her head with a laugh, turning to look at the smallest teen. "We know you better than you know yourself." Danny paused, slightly glad that that wasn't completely true- he really liked keeping his friends from worrying too much. They would get grey hair by the time they were twenty, Danny swore, and by the time they were thirty they would probably have hair whiter than Phantom's.
"Yeah dude, we know." Tucker smirked, wiggling his brows. Danny groaned, dropping his head onto the desk with a thump. "It's okay, we won't tell."
"Not like you can do any harm." Danny glared, watching his friends share a look even through the digital stream. The ravenette sighed, glancing around his desk, surprised for once that he was actually on top of his school work for the first time in so very long. Sometimes a break was nice, no need to complicate it. "'Sides, it's not like that. We're just friends."
"For now!" Tucker responded in a sing-song voice. "Regardless dude, you know we just like seeing you happy." Tucker sobered, giving his friend a small smile.
"Yeah, just being close to someone else, means a lot. It's good that you actually have a person that you can physically interact with instead of just staunchly refusing any other chances to make friends after we moved." Sam chimed, flashing her own approving smile. Danny smiled back, knowing his friends jokes were all in good faith- his friends really cared for him and loved him in the way only such close knit friends can.
"I know guys." Danny smiled, waving off the topic. "I'll just need to-"
"DANNY!" A loud voice muffled through the door. Danny sighed, glancing towards the door. Turning back to his friends with an apologetic smile, another call sounding through the wood.
"Looks like I'm needed." He smiled, ignoring the pang of sadness of having to leave the call. The others laughed, shaking their heads, none the wiser to how his parents have changed.
"It's a wonder how they even survive without you." Sam laughed, glancing at her clock. "I have a date soon, so I should get ready."
"I got a robotics meeting soon." Tucker chimed, smiling back. "Stay clear of the radars." Tucker teased. They shared their goodbyes, clicking out about the same time. Danny sighed, closing his laptop. Another call of his name rang out, this time deeper than the last. His dad.
Danny pulled himself to his door, hesitating ever so slightly. Hopefully it wouldn't go anywhere, and if it did, he wouldn't go to see the brothers. He already wasted his daily medically meet-up this morning and Danny didn't want to bother them again so soon. He pulled open his door, just when another call sounded.
"I'm coming!" Danny called back, hopping down the stairs quickly. It was better to not keep them waiting. To his shock, Danny was met with both parents settled in the kitchen. An oddly placed looking Sam standing awkwardly across from them. "Hey Sam." Danny greeted, confused on why the taller teen was there.
"Danny, you never mentioned your new friend." Maddie mused, smiling welcoming to the teen. Sam smiled awkwardly, looking like he'd rather be anywhere but here.
"Uh yea, it never came up." Danny shot Sam an apologetic smile. He shifted the focus from his parents to Sam. "Why're you here?" He asked, inwardly wincing at how harsh the tone sounded. He felt a little worse when Sam looked like a kicked puppy for a split-second.
"I thought maybe we could hang out?" Sam sounded sheepish as he spoke, almost like he's realizing what a mistake he made; going over to Danny's home probably wasn't the best idea.
"You boys could go up to Danny's room." Maddie offered, waving towards the stairs. "You're welcome to stay for dinner." Maddie smiled.
"I'm sure Sam's brother would want him back." Danny cut in, trying to give Sam a way out. Sam luckily was smart enough to take his hint.
"Maybe another time, Danny's right. My brother would get worried and he's cooking tonight anyways" Sam smiled politely. Maddie nodded understandingly, and patted her husband on the shoulder to get him to move.
"You two boys head up, we'll be in the lab if you need us."
Danny grabbed Sam's hand and quickly dragged him up the stairs before his mom could say anything else. It was once they got up the stairs that Danny realized he was still holding the taller teen's hand. With a small blush, he let go, guiding them towards his room.
"Sorry for the mess." Danny excused, quickly grabbing a few strewn clothing items. "I wasn't really expecting anyone..." Danny trailed looking around the small room. He kept it minimalist, the only figurines or trinkets were gifts from his friends or collectibles from their favorite shows and such. The walls were still the same exact purple color he had since childhood. Space and band posters alike were littered across his walls.
"It's okay, it's not that bad." Sam smiled, looking around. "It's better than what Dean sometimes is like."
"I'm not surprised." Danny laughed, taking a seat on the bed and motioned for Sam to join him. "I don't have much we can do, I have a few card games and a few video games."
"What card games?" Sam mused, turning his interest to the teen. "I'm more of a cards game person." Sam seemed slightly embarrassed at that. Danny chuckled, looking over at his shelf. His eyes scanned over the various boxes before settling on one of his favorites. This used to be team Phantoms go to game when they settled in at his place for the sleep overs.
"Your Worst Nightmare? It's an actual card game my other friend Sam found one day." Danny questioned, walking over to the shelf. "The whole game is just ordering fear, and trying to guess the other persons' right." He explained, turning the pitch black box towards the taller teen. He regarded how Sam looked a little surprised by the game. "Uh, Tucker and other Sam used to play it a ton with me." Danny explained, rubbing the back of his neck out of nervous habit.
"It sounds fun." Sam smiled warmly, motioning towards the floor in question.
"Best spot to playing card games." Danny laughed, plopping down on the rugged floor. Sam followed suit, listening intently as Danny pulled out the components of the game and explained how its played.
Maybe this game wasn't the smartest choice, it just had been one of the few games the original trio hadn't minded playing constantly and Danny was feeling slightly nostalgic after talking to his two oldest friends. Every game was always slightly different which lead to some interesting debates on the fear level for a few things. The problem with playing it with the Winchester was that he didn't know what Danny did daily, or what he had experienced. It was after the first round that Danny realized that he wasn't the only one who had weird fear levels.
This round, the fears in question were ghosts, Vampires, electricity, and germs. It was easy for Danny to fill his out, he barely had to think it through. Electricity, germs, vampires, and then dead last were ghosts. It was hard to be scared of something you deal with on a daily basis. After defeating the worst ghost in the zone, it was even harder to be too scared.
For Sam, he went with a realistic order. He just tried to see it through the eyes of an average school student, and that was when he realized something was off. It was the largest gap form all the other rounds, and it was much too similar to his. Sam's order was germs, electricity, ghost, and then vampires. Sam placed ghosts above vampires but both at the bottom scariest, and maybe Sam was just not superstitious, it was just his reasoning that set the suspicion in place.
"Well, you can't see germs. Electricity can cause heart attacks." Sam explained easily. "Vampires are pretty easy to deal with, but ghosts are complicated." Sam shuddered as if remembering something, which was where Danny realized Sam was talking like he knew from experience.
"From what I saw vampires are easier with just a stake to the heart. For ghosts you need a whole priest." The shorter teen laughed and he watched Sam freeze, almost like he said something he shouldn't before laughing causally.
"In lore Vampires are handled by chopping off their heads, and ghosts are dealt with by burning the remains or something that ties them to earth." Sam explained, before pausing for barely a second. "Besides you can't really see ghosts right?" Sam laughed, but Danny could pick up the hints of awkwardness.
He can't really dig or be hurt that Sam seemed like he was lying. It's not like Danny doesn't hide a whole side of his life from pretty much everyone in his life. Danny joined the laughter, burying that train of thought to think about later when he wasn't enjoying his time with Sam.
"I think we've played long enough." Danny chimes, looking down at the amount of tallies on the scare card. It had been close every round, both teens either being completely wrong, and pretty close in their guesses. "I think a lunch break is in order."
That train of thought hit him like a ton of bricks that night. He and Sam had a surprisingly good day, the light awkwardness that seemed to hover over them since the first time Sam came over seemed to vanish into thin air. The two had gone out to eat at the Nasty Burger before spending some time at the local park. Danny luckily had not been called away at all in the time they spent together, as all the ghosts were out of the picture for the day. When he got home, his parents were too distracted in the lab to really notice his arrival, only doing so when he brought down food, but luckily they hadn't needed his help.
That's how Danny found himself sprawled out across his bed, enjoy the nice break the day brought on after that morning. However his calm feeling didn't last long when the original doubt and suspicion hit him that night. Leave it to his anxieties to turn the day bad. With a sigh the teen rolled over, grabbing his phone.
"U guys up?" Danny texted into the group chat, and not long after the sign for both friends becoming active popped up.
"Ya dude whats up" Tucker's messaged pinged through before Sam's did.
"Whats anxiey got on the manu?" Danny chuckled, all of them usually got lazy when it came to text. They've all gotten surprisingly good at figuring out what the other was saying when it's completely butchered.
"It's Sam..." Danny hit send, before typing out another message as quickly as possible and hitting send. "i thomk his dixferny"
"Different how" Both friends sent the same message. Danny sighed, rolling his thoughts through his head. It wasn't like his anxiety driven thoughts were easy to put into words.
"Like parent" He shot back, blinking up at the ceiling. It wasn't that hard to imagine, the other teen had a good range of knowledge on urban legends and folktales. He and his family are constantly traveling for their dad's 'mechanic' job. Clockwork has told Danny about these types, he just never expected to ever run into one.
"Ghost hunters?" Tucker shot back, a shocked emoji tagged at the end of the message.
"Hunter." Danny shot back, remembering when he had explained it to Sam and Tucker the day he learned about it. "Like Stopwatch said"
"Danny this isn't good" Sam messaged, a worry emoji sitting at both the beginning and end of the message.
"Ik" Danny sighed, flipping onto his back. His life just always had to be complicated. "U guys r rite tho" He sent, knowing the other two would know exactly what he was talking about.
"I KNEW IT" Tucker sent with cheer emojis after. Danny couldn't help but laugh at the message.
"TUCKER" Sam scolded easily read through text, before another message from her came through. "When he leave"
"bout a week tops" Danny felt sadness fill him at the reminder of what the brothers mentioned not long ago. "day after their dad pops in"
"dw about hunter thang" Sam sent in, the same time a sorry message from Tucker popped in.
"Jus injoy time with mate sam" Tucker texted, a sad emoji popped onto the end. "No worries"
"ur rite" Danny shot back, eyes glued on the text bubbled. He wasn't an idiot, Sam didn't give him a number or email because it just wasn't something hunters do. They don't really make connections that last. He also wasn't delusional enough to believe he'd ever see the other boy again. It's better not to spoil this time, the Winchesters were still treasured friends.
"Try sleep?" Tucker message, waiting for the usual confirmation good night to come through. Sam always responded with a shooting star, Danny responding with a crescent moon, the waning one, and when one of the others asked if they were going to sleep, Tucker had to be the weirdo and use that creepy moon face emoji. The active dot by both names vanished, before Danny settled his phone down for the night. Yea, he'll just try to enjoy his time with the brothers. Memories are forever, even if people aren't.
