Yokai kid Kakashi borrowing from @ohai-there's design. Who's a little dimension hopper, who also lost his dad (who is also a dimension hopper)

And he's like. Hopping from world to world looking for his dad, right? And whenever he world hops he usually goes to that worlds Kakashi for help / bc Sakumo might be w him

And somewhere along the way he runs into our Obito and somehow gets Obito to agree to help him (the why and how doesn't matter)

But now it's Obito on a multiversity journey lead by a little yokai kid kakashi. Meeting all these different versions of Kakashi and losing his mind ab it

I'm picturing the actual dimension travel as like. Wandering down a dark corridor between worlds with kakashi holding a lamp, guiding the way

(Easy for Obito to wander off the path and get lost and end up in a new world)

Maybe Sakumo lost his own lamp which is why Kakashi is looking for him, he's presumably lost his guiding light back

You can stumble out into other worlds and all but like.

You have no control of it

And there's a decent chance you'll get trapped in the dark anyways so it's best to just stay put in the first world u find

One day, he spots the silvery frame of an obvious yokai, a foreigner to their lands whose pouch is lined with coins, and is hired as a guide. some of y'all have seen these already but whatever lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ no longer gatekeeping at least xD

anywho, some infodumping here as well under the cut! establishing who's what and so on :D there are some differences from what i've said in older posts for this au bc this is very much still in the works lol

i'm definitely down for suggestions for characters and plot ideas btw!

to give some background info, this au's world is pretty much like our own but with yokai thrown into the mix. some interact with (and/or are malicious towards) humans, so a government agency was formed to document them, with specially trained agents to subdue/defeat yokai causing trouble.

this is where raidou comes in! officially, he's one of those agents that do documentation. unofficially, he also helps defeat yokai because they hate him especially for whatever reason. he's a bit of a yokai magnet, if you will. half-thought-out plot right there but we might get back to that eventually. he can also spot yokai even if they're purposefully staying hidden, which is partially why he's so good at his job.

anywho, part of raidou's current team is kakashi! kakashi is from a long line of powerful exorcists, and his left eye has the ability to pinpoint yokai weaknesses, among other things. said eye also lends a little more power to his talismans and charms so yay for that. obito and rin are still alive in this au, but sakumo isn't, with mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. another half-thought-out plot right there.

next, part of raidou's former team was genma! genma used to work with raidou as a fellow documentation agent, going more into initial scouting/assessing than actual recording. unfortunately (as you could probably tell from the art and fics involving this au), he's not quite alive anymore (rip). it was initially assumed that he'd disappeared on a one-off solo mission, but after his body was discovered washed up on a beach, he was declared officially dead. now he's a funayurei (ghosts of those that died at sea) - i originally had him as a shiranui (a type of onibi (demon fire/wil o' wisp) found on a sea i forgot the name of) bc of his last name but i think this works out a little bit better - he just has a pair of hitodama (onibi-like things that are basically kind of like a yurei's (ghost's) soul detached from the body) hovering around, to give a similar vibe haha. depictions of yurei are typically white clothes, long black hair, etc. etc. but i did read that they can appear in the clothes they died in, so i'm going with that. but hey on another note - now that they're reunited, genma's back on the yokai documentation grind. just. as a yokai himself xD

anywho, these two have been the most consistent in raidou's team. he has definitely worked with other agents before, but those agents were more like specialists assigned for specific missions. more on that eventually.

izumo and kotetsu don't really fit into any of the categories i've described so far. they're two among many undercover agents established all over the country, often in somewhat more remote areas, responsible for reporting yokai threats in their assigned sectors. izumo and kotetsu specifically are undercover as convenience store employees, with said convenience store also working as a safe house. any agents assigned to that area can restock supplies/weapons, get some rest, or establish contact with hq. and like i said in previous posts about them, they are able to deal with yokai to a certain extent. not powerhouses by any means, but they can usually hold their own until reinforcements arrive. izumo favors talismans and dart guns that usually contain a tranquilizing substance. kotetsu, meanwhile, favors larger bladed weapons (and ofc they're both proficient in other weapons xD) as such, they're a good combo of long range and close combat

overall, the jounin would probably be the higher-ranking all rounders, tokubetsu jounin would be the specialists, and chuunin would be the undercover agents i mentioned earlier. as for anbu, they'd probably be the ones dealing with large scale threats. ofc there are exceptions, especially those at the agency headquarters. (this is def formatted similarly to canon xD)

moving on to the yokai! while i have done research, this definitely isn't fully fleshed out yet. here's what i do have though!

hayate and yugao: the two are a pair of sword and scabbard tsukumogami, which are yokai generally agreed to be objects that have gained life and sentience after reaching 100 years of age. they busted out of a museum ages ago and have since lived together, passing relatively well as normal people. i will admit i took artistic liberties though; most art i've seen of tsukumogami look distinctively more like the objects they used to be. for my own sanity i've made them more humanoid xD

anko: she is a bakeneko, a type of mischievous cat yokai that is sometimes said to come from cats that became yokai after being raised for a certain number of years (exact number varies) or to exact revenge against cruel humans. i don't have much else on her so that's about it for now :3

and uh. that's all i have actually. i thought i had more tbh but oh well. like i said before - feel free to give suggestions, ideas, or questions! and if you made it this far, thanks for reading :3

maybe an AU where Obito Uchiha is Indigo? Can see ghost or like that, that's why he's much more weirder than average person. Because after all, he always got a trouble because of ghosts who 'uniquely' attracted to him.

Rin is his bff, maybe crush in this AU but idk. Anyway, as her bff, Rin always supporting Obito like a normal child and ignoring the mystical things that somehow always happen to Obito.

Kakashi only think it's just Obito excuses for being late. What? The Uchiha alway said, "Sorry! There was a ghost that made me sleep too soundly and there was another ghost that hid my things"

Minato just being Minato. He is a very observant Sensei but he kinda lack of attention to Obito, and maybe with Rin too. Because he more prioritize Kakashi than the other two.

He knew something is wrong with Obito; how the Uchiha sometimes talked to air, punch air etc. In my idea, Minato believe that ghost are real. Just like how Shikifujin is real. But he's not the type to be afraid of ghosts.

It’s their In Threes AU series, and it has everything! A genderfluid Naruto, kurama who is a yokai instead of a chakra construct, yokai playing a major role in general, a feral Kakashi, Saratobi facing Consequences!

Found your post about Hatake clan relations to agriculture, and you are right about almost everything, except: wolves in Japan are associated with crops!

Here's from Japanese wolf wiki:

"In the Shinto belief, the ōkami ("wolf") is regarded as a messenger of the kami spirits and also offers protection against crop raiders such as the wild boar and deer. Wild animals were associated with the mountain spirit Yama-no-kami. The mountains of Japan, seen as a dangerous, deadly place, were highly associated with the wolf, which was believed to be their protector and guardian."

Hatake clan being a wolf clan is very plausible, it's just would mean a different thing than most people seem to believe.

Wolves are associated with crops and mountains.

There's also yokai okuri ōkami, that protects travellers through mountains unless they accidentally trip; if you trip it will kill you. Apparently it has another name - okuri inu.

"The okuri inu has a special relationship with another yokai, the yosuzume. This eerie bird’s nocturnal song is often a warning that an okuri inu is following you. If one hears the yosuzume’s “chi, chi, chi” song, it is a sign to take extra care to watch one’s footing so that the okuri inu doesn’t have dinner that night." (from yokai dot com/okuriinu/ )

I will admit that I am too lazy to look that information up. But I don't mind that wolves are tied to agriculture and could therefore be tied to the Hatake - my beef with the "Hatake have wolf summons and wolf characteristics" fanon comes from the fact that it's a cheap copy of the already existing Inuzuka clan. The Inuzuka are right there, we don't need Inuzuka 2.0 but make it more feral because wolves are cooler.

It doesn't even make sense, Kakashi's summons are dogs - and not even big mean wolfdogs like Tsume's but cute little pet doggos - and that "heacanon" only serves to make Kakashi and Tobirama (because he gets headcanoned as Hatake 90% of the time solely because of his hair color (which is funny because everyone describes it as white in their fics even tho it's fucking grey like Kakashi's or Kabuto's!!! (and speaking of Kabuto, isn't it funny that he never gets headcanoned for a Hatake even tho he looks more similar to Kakashi than Tobirama does? I wonder why that is. (I don't. I know exactly why that is.)))) extremely OOC.

Neither of them is some kind of growling, feral fighter who claws and bites their way through a battle. Neither is in any way or form extremely overprotective over what they consider theirs because of "pack reasons" (and neither is Sakumo for that matter, Mr "I'll kill myself even tho I am the last family my 5yo son has left"). And neither needs some kind of fangs to bite someone, if this is what people want to write, as Madara has already proven that a strong shinobi can bite a piece of flesh out with perfectly normal teeth.

All three characters are extremely powerful and badass in their own right without adding powers to them that are completely out of character. A headcanon builds up to something canon has already established and the "Hatake are like Inuzuka but with wolves" fanon is so far off that it would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying.

And I don't think tying the Hatake to agriculture is the only right way either. It's merely a suggestion, one that I find makes sense given the little bit we have, and if people want to build up on that and add how they tend to have wolf summons for protection (Kakashi's are still cute doggos tho), then that's fine and hey, at least it makes sense. My beef is just 100% that I think it's extremely cheap to make the Hatake a copy of the Inuzuka because they find wolves cooler than dogs and that's on that.

Naruto

Hand over Hand Over Hand - Ongoing - Madara/Hikaku/Tobirama. Omegaverse arranged marriage slowburn, where high ranking alpha/omega couples sometimes bring betas into their marriage.

Foxfire - Yokai are real and the tailed beasts were given power by the sage rather than created by him. This will have consequences for Naruto (and everyone else)

Canon Rewrite - This is the devil speaking to me and (@firecoloredwater). Naruto was raised by Hiruzen('s hired help), Itachi didn't kill all of the Uchiha and is the clan head. Sakura is an orphaned Senju. And more!

Something like Sort of Like a Disciple - Tenten activates a seal that sees a ghost of Mito stuck with her. Said ghost has opinions on the current state of Konoha.

The Academy Three - Kakashi sends Team Seven back to the academy, and Iruka picks up his slack.

Wood Tar, Charcoal Ginger, And Honey - MadaTobi. After Kawarma died, Tobirama turned his jutsu creation towards healing instead of war.

For in this Garden, We grow the Future - Izutama. Same Universe as above -- Izuna and Itama don't trust each other at all, but are made to work together in Konoha's new ANBU corps.

Heart of Flowers - MadaTobi - Hanahaki. Madara finds out that the Senju can catch a strange disease, and that Tobirama has been suffering from it for years. He decides he'll be able to cure it.

Woodland Succession - MadaTobi - Hashirama has been acting odd -- Odd enough to leave his brother tied up like a gift for the Uchiha to capture. Tobirama is willing to work with even the Uchiha, if it means saving his brother.

Tengu AU - MadaTobi - A comic. Madara is the lord of the mountain and Tobirama is his yearly sacrifice. Neither of them care too much about such things. Tag Here

Trust in Reverse - IzuTobi. The daimyo of fire forces an arranged marriage between Izuna and Tobirama that he clearly expects to fail. They are spiteful enough to make sure it doesn't.

Brothers in Bond - IzuTobi -Tobirama and Izuna are captured and put into captivity together, which leads to, ugh-- mutual understanding.

In the Corner of Another Room - IzuTobi - Izuna falls in love with a mysterious masked shinobi, who he believes Tobirama has killed. Years later, that shinobi appears again.

For this is Just a Body - IzuTobi - Butsuma puts a cursed/obedience seal on Tobirama. Somehow, Izuna is the only one who notices.

A Storm Sweeps Out to Sea/The Wind Brings it Back to Me - IzuTobi - Tobirama fled from the Senju after killing his father years ago. ANBU Commander Izuna has just gotten a new recruit that he recognizes.

The Senju Ghost - IzuTobi - Izuna doesn't believe in spirits until he gets caught by one. He hates it, but what he hates even more is Tobirama showing up an announcing that it's his job to get Izuna free. Some things already written in this AU here and here.

Unnamed #1 (Tobirama Memory Loss) - IzuTobi - Tobirama is captured by the Uchiha. Only, he seems to be suffering from some kind of memory loss. Izuna puts himself in charge of getting information out of him.

Unnamed #2 (Nowhere Else to Go) - IzuTobi - Izuna recognizes and purges Zetsu's influence from himself, but he can't free the rest of his clan. Circumstances lead him lead him to seek help from Tobirama. Not only does he not kill Izuna as he was expecting, he also gets into his own trouble for helping him.

Unnamed #3 (Hanahaki Adjacent) - (Probably) IzuTobi - The Senju clan form chakra bonds with each other, and not doing so leads to adverse health. Tobirama has never been very good at forming connections with people.

Crane's Return of a Favor - HikaTobi - Tobirama has crane summons. Someone else does too. They become pen pals, of a fashion.

East of the Bend - HikaTobi - While his brother is off making friends, Tobirama makes a friend of his own. They're a bit more pragmatic, when it comes to making peace.

Unnamed #4 (Pollitical Hostage Hikaku) - HikaTobi - Hikaku led the Uchiha defectors after Izuna died. Now that Madara has finally made peace, the only way he can think of to save himself from Madara's wrath is to make himself too politically valuable to kill. So he marries into the Senju.

Unnamed #5 (Oops! Arranged Marriage) - HikaTobi - The Uchiha offer Hikaku to marry Tobirama fully expecting the offer to be rejected. It is not.

Unnamed #6 (Concubine Hikaku) - HikaTobi, HashiMada - Madara refuses to accept peace, and so the Uchiha are defeated. Unwilling to kill Madara, Hashirama claims him as a concubine. In order to support his brother, Tobirama picks an Uchiha to become a concubine of his as well.

These three are in the same continuity:

Hands and Tongues - Hashi/Izu/Mito - Izuna is healed by Hashirama, leading to a peace he doesn't agree with at all. He decides the best thing to do to ensure his clan's safety is to get blackmail on the hokage by seducing him and/or his wife

Like Gravity - HikaTobi, Hikaku is the only Uchiha who is willing and able to work with Tobirama. He goes into it with an open mind. Slowburn

A Place to Fall into - MadaHikaTobi. Madara finds himself lonley, in a world at peace. It takes a few realizations before he understands he doesn't have to be.

Desert Spring - Tobirama kills his father on accident. He flees to wind country, where he just so happens to fulfill some folkloric prophecies. He's 14, he doesn't want a harem, and he really doesn't want people calling him a god or organizing a coup around him.

Everything Stays/Everyone Lives - The Everyone Lives AU where nobody knows everyone lives. Some fics in the AU already exist (Here and Here) (And in a different but adjacent AU by Para Here), but there are drafts and ideas for other fics such as: Izuna realizes Tobirama is blessed, Tobirama finds Madara's youngest brother, The Rescue of Madara's older brother, The Return of Madara's Oldest Brother, and: Izuna finds a guy who looks a lot like Tobirama.

The Necromancer's Apprentice - Edo Tensei is a little nicer, and Tobirama makes a name for himself (and a lot of money) allowing the rich to speak to lost loved ones and getting confessions from the dead. When peace happens, the Uchiha elders demand that Tobirama takes on an Uchiha apprentice -- which to the Senju, is functionally the same as having him adopt the child.

Unnamed #7 (Pokemon AU) - The Warring States are still at war, but it's pokemon, so it's a hair nicer. The daimyo is encouraging Dojo/Gym challenges as a way to settle disputes and gain status, as it's cheaper than war. Hashirama decides to go challenge them -- if he succeeds and gains status his father will be forced to accept them. He's left his little siblings behind, and there's a magikarp in the pond that doesn't much like the way Butsuma treats it's favorite trainer.

Unnamed #8 (The Brothers Patricide) - Hashirama knows that he needs to kill Butsuma sooner rather than later. He knows that Tobirama is loyal to him and would never agree. Tobirama knows that Hashirama is too naive to see the ruin Butsuma is leading their clan towards. He needs to kill his father before it's too late.

Unammed #9 (Tobirama buys a courtesan) - Outsider POV. Tobirama goes to a courtesan to keep cover on a mission and enjoys her company so much that he buys her contract so that she can work for him -- as a research assistant.

Unnamed #10 (Haku Timetravels) - Zabuza dies with an Uzushio scroll in his pocket, not that Haku knows anything about that. He just knows that he's woken up in the past, and that he's skilled enough to attract attention there.

Strangers Met on Summer Jobs - Ongoing. Shinkami. Modern Fantasy, Siren/Human. Denki is a college dropout who meets a siren working his summer job as a tour guide.

sooooo as always when I cannot write - I read. And I've been Nostalgic for Naruto for weeks now, and especially weak for Naruto and Iruka relationship. While looking for good old Iruka adopts Naruto aus I stumbled onto this absolute gem! It's extremely cute, funny and heartfelt. Naruto is actually a kitsune kit and Iruka accidentally ends up with a not-so-human kid moving into his home. There's friendship, family feels, kids being kids and Kakashi and Iruka co-parenting (sometimes, Kakashi escapes that by turning into a dog).

The fic feels like a ghibli movie, I was reading it with the soundtrack and it was just perfect. There is a series with three parts - all worth your attention, but I especially liked the second part, because it's very magical and otherworldly, with yokai involved.
