Let's discuss Jihoo's car crash autism.

i've found some Interesting info on tiktok (yes, great source, I know):

Now can we stop making fun of that line, please? It's getting old 😭 Especially when it's mostly a mistranslation

(I do believe he is autistic, or at the very least some other flavor of neurodivergent, but it's obviously not because of the car crash and he obviously has PTSD too)

The manga claims his father being strict made him autistic/introverted (again, choose your translation because ppl would use these words interchangeably), but I read an article about autistic characters in anime and it said that this was an actual thing Japanese psychologists believed back in the 90s. Yeah, they believed strict parents caused autism because the child would become so introverted they would turn autistic. It was obviously refuted with time but a 90s manga is going to reflect 90s views on autism, sorry guys. Hana Yori Dango is not the only work from that time and place to use it as a plot point, there were works ABOUT AUTISM from back then that claimed the same thing. It was how they believed autism worked. Yeah it sucks, but I don't think the mangaka had much choice when actual psychologists believed that.

I would love for some newer adaptation to write his autism with our current knowledge about it instead of this mess (and I also don't want them retconning his autism, MAKE HIM AUTISTIC, YOU COWARDS!), but I doubt it's gonna happen anytime soon. They still fumble other easier themes in the series...

Growing up is realizing the 2nd leads were both too good for the main ones and deserve each other instead:

Hot take and I know it's a rare pair, but Ji Hoo x Jae Kyung would have been amazing. I don't really ship them in other adaptations (I'm a Lita x MJ shipper in the Thai version even if I could only respect Jae Kyung x Woo Bin lol). However, Ji Hoo and Jae Kyung have something special I don't know how to describe. Perhaps it's because they're the most fleshed out versions among all adaptations, and their last scene together just shows how much they understand one another, and how Jae Kyung supports Ji Hoo's happiness. Anyway, I'm only saying this because I just remember this amazing and heartfelt fic and want to ramble why I ship this J x J the most in this version lol (it was never pair the spares for me). This fic also made me realize the "Once in a lifetime" parallel to Ji Hoo, and his and Jae Kyung's development is sooo amazing and touching y'all.

The Boys Over Flowers AO3 is severely lacking in lgbt content. How you gonna watch 4 extremely hot, rich, spoiled friends interact with each other and not feel that tension? ESPECIALLY between Woobin and Yijung. They’re all lgbt & they have all kissed each other, at some point (some more than others WoobinandYijung). The potential is so strong from all angles and it’s just…not there. I see a lot of content for Yi Jung/Ga eul but maybe one or two (if any) for the others??

Am I really going to have to do it myself? Would anyone even read fanfic for a 2009 Kdrama??
