scholar and novelist stacey d'erasmo uses a phrase in her writing: "meet me in the if."

it's to do with the nature of imaginative intimacy — the role people go on to play in our lives even after a chance, momentary meeting; never to be repeated.

how they linger, and blossom in memory.

i think it's a beautiful summation of sol and sunjae's love story — "meet me in the if:" the imprecise air of the past — the promise of possibility.

the entirety of lovely runner is steeped in the purple ink of potential — sol and sunjae live between the "what-ifs," the "could-have-beens," the "missed you by just a second."

turning time back gives sol a chance to save him — and gives sunjae a chance to fall in love with her all over again.

to fail in better ways. to get their story right.

to harness the uncertain magic of lives already lived, there to be re-moulded again. reshaped by love.

however this ends, i know what they'll say to each other: "meet me in the if — where you and i will finally make sense."

Okay so hear me out...

Sol's mom said it's been 14 years since the "accident" when originally it should be 15 years. Now take note that Sol transported back to Dec 31, 2022 so...

I'm thinking there was another "accident" that happened to Sol19, since we could argue Sol's kidnapping by the taxi driver was not an accident.

Sol's brother might also be talking about this unknown accident after which Sol19 and Sun Jae stopped contacting each other. He was even convinced he had a crush on her and could have been his kids' uncle if "Sol didn't let go."

This might also be the flashback/dream Sol34 had in Ep 7.

If this is true, maybe MAYBE Sol19 and Sun Jae somewhat managed to be friends, or at least Sol19 didn't hate him and was civil. Then Sol19 would be able to tell Sun Jae she had no recollection of the past weeks (with him).

In Ep. 7, young Sun Jae was shown remembering Sol34 in the pool trying to stop him from competing because of a "dream." Sol's brother also told him she was never in an accident. The police officer also told him how she was telling them she might need help on a specific date (which was the day she was missing). By this time, Sun Jae could have been connecting the dots one way or another.

Especially if Sun Jae already dug up the time capsule.

This may tie up to when Sol34 travels for the 3rd time slip and university (?) Sun Jae asked her if she was from the future.
