#you are not my mother
Text
You know, this might be an unpopular opinion but I LOVE it wholeheartedly when I work out a plot twist before it actually happens. That feels like good story telling to me, when I can make educated guesses throughout a film and then have a triumphant moment of "I KNEW it" as the plot unravels and is revealed. It feels like the director and the audience are working together; being fed little nuggets and hints along the way and then finding out that you worked it out and you're right and this character will mimic the title in their dialogue for the final conflict and its resolution, and yes! That suspicious look in the first part of the film has been recalled here and yes! This person isn't who they seem to be, you're right! I just really love being able to actively participate in my viewing of a film, knowing what I'm in for the further into the film I become, and having that sense of satisfaction when I'm right and the plot went exactly as I thought it would! The director and the audience both participating in the story and being rewarded for paying attention, too.
Predictable plots twists my beloved😘

Guess who's been bathed! It's me. And I did it myself, uh, I realize that I made it sound like I was taken to the groomers or something. Like "Guess who's been bathed!" has the vibe of a text that one dog would send another dog. But, no, I have hot running water in my home once more and holy shit is it nice. You know showers? They feel incredible. Also washing your hands with warm water? Outstanding. What a day.

Oh no, this is also quite bleak, but in a totally different way.

It’s the week before Halloween. Char’s bedridden mother, Angela, has mysteriously gone missing. All that remains is her abandoned car parked in the middle of a field. When Angela returns home to their North Dublin estate the following evening without explanation, it becomes clear to Char and her grandmother, Rita, that something is amiss. She might look and sound the same, but Angela’s behavior has become increasingly erratic and frightening, as if she has been replaced by a malevolent force. As Halloween approaches, a night steeped in ancient Irish myth and legend, Char must unearth the dark secrets of her family in order to uncover the truth behind her mother's disappearance and save her, even if it means potentially losing her forever.

I swear if I see another Kenobi or Stranger Things OC, i will scream so loud George Lucas will wake up and phone Stephen King to tell him another dumb OC writer is trying to display as them and badly.
This is a cry for help from me to y'all. Explore other fandoms. Stop trying to one up each other or resurrect OCs nobody cares about. The world exists beyond Obi and Steve btw just saying. Touch grass people

I just wanna say bc I KNOW you're somewhere on tumblr, to the teenage girl who attended Take Your Kid To Work Day at an office building in Ontario, Canada circa 2013 and had a conversation with a middle aged woman in which you showed her your Black Veil Brides fanart and fanfics and ship content and told her about different fanfic tropes including a/b/o verse bc she happened to know who Panic! at The Disco and Fallout Boy were and thus you felt the need to show her your bandblr ship art, that was my fucking mother and I had to clarify all that to her including looking my mother in the eye and trying to explain a/b/o verse without sounding like a lunatic.
It's been 10 years and I still regularly sent evil energies in your direction. Since you'd be probably two years younger than me and thus legally an adult now, please know if this post reaches you it's on sight.

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.
Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.
It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?
Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.
