"Well guys, it's 2023 and here's another dolt ranting about pronouns in the lust arc, just like the IH Fail essay that ended up being a fail in and of itself."
No its 2023 and people are deciding to keep ot real with you instead of deluding themselves and changing fhe narrtive to cater to a ship.
Respectfully, lets not speak on a language we dont know shit about, lmao.
Ichigo omits the pronoun when he tells rukia 'i've come to save you' in soul society that's because he was literally speaking to her, had been bickering with her from the previous page and had already told her he was there to rescue her back on the bridge - so he didn't need to specify to her 'who' he'd come to save: this is a typical example of "japanese omitting pronouns because they're obvious"
in the lust arc, ichigo is quite literally unconscious and unaware of his surroundings: in order to make it clear to the readers that ichigo recognized orihime, a pronoun (actually not even, he should have used her damn name like ichigo always did when he thought about rukia in ss) **needed** to be there without it, especially coupled with the fact that he speaks in broken japanese from that moment to the end of his transformation (i.e. he uses a mix of kanji and katakana, the latter of which is only used for foreign words, robots or - in bleach's case - hollows, and usually to signify that the speaker is just muttering sounds and doesn't understand the actual meaning of what they're saying), and the fact that he literally quite literally proceeds to throw orihime off the dome with absolutely no care for her well being, it's damn obvious that he had no idea who was yelling at him, he was only aware of the fact that someone was asking for help and got triggered by the word 'save'
"I mean this is just hilarious to me. Here's Orihime and Ichigo, literally placed together in side by side panels as Ichigo continues to chant about protecting...And ichiruki shippers are like, "hmmm well, it's not super clear who he's talking about because there's no pronoun so...I guess we'll never know 🤷‍♀️."
So being places together in panels side by side means he's referring to her? May I remind u he's just raised from the dead, and orihime is shocked as she processes what's happening. Those panels were to emphasise that. Not only have u attempted to educate me on the Japanese language and failed, you've now tried to say side by side panels somehow equates to the fact that he's referring to her? 💀.
"You think Kubo drew this^ entire page, at such a pivotal moment, to show that Orihime's...wrong? Like some sort of gag? She's just *imagining* that Ichigo rose up for her, but it's not actually true? That's...certainly an interesting way to interpret things lmao."
This was orihimes own perception of the situation. Orihime isn't a fact page, she's her own charecter with her own dialogue and thought. The fact she perceived it that way doenst mean its the case. She didn't imagine anything, it jsut looked that way too her, may I remind you she was the one screaming. She knows she's the person the screams belong too, ichigo doesn't. So of course she's gonna think it's here fault, common sense people.
You also proceeded to bring more asspulls and try and say how the databook confirms its about orihime when it was in third person.
"The readers aren't the ones who bound Ichigo to Orihime's screams (especially not you, anon, since you keep insisting it had nothing to do with her lmao). Kubo did that. That's how he meant for this scene to be interpreted: that Ichigo was bound to Orihime's screams. But you're still here fighting against it for some reason lol."
Did kubo tell u that he meant for the scene to be interpretated this way? Or did some angel come to you in ur dream and tell u that? If thats true, kubo wouldve simply added confirmation that hes talking about orihime by adding pronouns or her name. Instead he doesnt do that and has ichigo propell her away
He was bound to her screams, it's just that he didn't know the screams belonged to her, as long as those screams belonged to someone, he's gonna get up... that's who he is. It could've been anyone else screaming there and he would've stood his ass the fuck up, that's his charecter and what he does. Lmao you think this would go without saying, but the lengths ppl go for shipping is hilarious.
"Ichigo did know she was calling out to him. It was part of his internal monologue, as she's screaming, before he hollowfied. Whether the pronoun is there or not (because again, the pronoun for her doesn't *need* to be there to make it clear who he's talking about when she's clearly the only person screaming, placed directly next to a panel of him rising him up...) he could hear her voice. He could hear her calling him. He ruminated over ORIHIME'S screams and was bound to ONLY that purpose. Only her. "
He could hear her voice, he just didn't know it was her. Just that it was somebody, it's not that hard to grasp. There's nothing wrong with ichigo not knowing it's orihime but since shipping has rotten yalls brains, it has to be about the Princess hime, and not about ichigos own charecter, because everything has to be about orihime, right? (💀).
Your opinion on this probably won't change, that's granted as a deluded shipper. What also won't change, is the fact that this isn't an ichihime moment. U attempted to educate me on the japanese language and failed, I recommend doing more research time. I also reccomend not bothering to reply to things like these if ur arguement is just gonna end with "well ichihime is canon, deal with it" because it makes u look silly to say the least, and has nothing to do with the convo.

how i sleep knowing ichigo literally rose up from the dead for his future wife 🥰

damn dude. i hadnt seen the rowlf and teeth art yet, so with all the literal homophobic moral panic new age puritanical bitching from that other anon abt "ruined childhoods" i was sort of expecting like.. something spicy?? which would still have been fine, like. muppet porn is not my thing but people are allowed to express their thoughts through their art on their own damn blogs. so i half expected it to be steamy or risqué or even vaguely sexual from the way anon is flailing around, but nope nope not even an implication not a whiff of yiff, it's the cutest sweetest most G rated least offensive display of pure and wholesome affection ive ever seen, and the art itself is stunning in quality. perhaps anon should stop outsourcing the foundation of their personality onto the rest of the world and learn to curate their own experience online, instead of trying to control the thoughts, lives and expressions of others in a quest to reform the world into a special little homogenous space made especially just for them and nobody else. other people exist and some of us want to see the muppets kiss, because it ENRICHES our childhood memories.
anon, listen. if you dont want to see the muppets gay kiss? just.. unfollow the artist who drew gay kissing muppets. you have no right to tell people what they are and arent allowed to do with, draw images of or say about fictional characters from a tv series we ALL watched. you dont own the concept of muppets, buddy, and even if you did, not-for-profit fanworks are a legally protected form of art in most countries.
and gay romance is not sacrosanct!! if you think it is, you need to do some work killing the internalized homophobia that's clouding your view! you need to actively counter the homophobic misinformation you are regurgitating! and realize that you are not immune to being homophobic just because you are bisexual. gay people can be homophobic towards other gay people, and towards themselves. homophobia is a type of violence, and in the same way it doesn't matter who's behind the fist when youre getting punched in the face, it doesnt matter how you identify when you're claiming that a depiction of innocent gay affection is sacrosanct enough to be childhood-ruining. that shits homophobic. people who get bullied can, in fact, also bully other people. they aren't mutually exclusive concepts.
and besides, if a g rated image by an artist on tumblr can ruin your childhood memories of the characters.. was it ever really about the characters at all? did you ever actually give a shit about these characters if another person's—and I cannot stress this enough—HARMLESS and INOFFENSIVE interpretation of them in one single picture could ruin it for you? maybe you should reflect on that. and maybe you should go watch some jim henson muppet shows, i know they cover it in sesame street on multiple occasions that it's not okay to tell other people what to think or or how to play with their own toys, like it's repeated and explicit that you cannot control other people. in children, we call this behavior bratty. if a child wants their godzilla toy to have a tea party with their barbie, thats literally their right. yes, even in public where *gasp* other people will see it. and drawing is like creating your own 2D action figure. its not the original one on tv, its your personal version. telling an adult to stop drawing something and sharing it from their blog is literally a direct translation of telling a child they are playing with their toys wrong, ruining godzilla for you bc they want him to have a tea party with barbie, telling them they should only play with them the way YOU deem correct. so if you can't reconcile the way someone else is playing with their own toys in their own front yard, walk away and either go to your own house and play with your own toys or find someone else to play with. maybe you missed those very central and important parts of these shows, idk. maybe you're just too self centered to understand the lessons the muppets were trying to teach. either way, get the fuck over yourself and leave artists alone.
anyway my dear artist, i am so sorry for the behavior of that other anon, and i'm sorry if this message is way way way too long. you deserve only the highest praise, both for your work and for how you handled this whole debacle. you're an absolutely amazing mastercrafter, your skill is truly something to behold and that piece is so so precious and warms my heart and i would love to see more of ur muppet interpretations, i love you sm ok bye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was fully expecting to wake up to an ask from that homophobic anon, if I've learnt anything from this hater it's that they're persistent. But this?? This is so fucking nice to see you have no idea!
I woke up this morning and saw I had new asks in my inbox, I was expecting hate, I was prepared for it, I was ready to make more jokes out of hateful comments. But to wake up to this?? Not just a few sentences, no a full-on paragraph that you took time out of your day to send in? It wasn't until I realised this wasn't hate did I realise how crazy it is that most days I wake up in the mornings expecting there to be hate in my ask box. This truly made me smile this morning and helped me remember that my online audience is overall a happy, supportive and kind group of people
Tumblr media
Thank you so so much for sending in this ask - after waking up expecting hate reading this was such a nice surprise! It also helped remind me that not everyone who views my art isn't out to get me for whatever I choose to draw (this is really off topic but how did you write all this in one ask?? Whenever I've tried to send in lengthy asks to a blog it always say there's a character limit)

I'm interested to know what you stance on Misha is after all this. peope seem to be pretty divided about this. has your opinion of him changed?
ok, i think this is gonna be a bit wordy. ive been in this fandom on and off for about a decade. if you follow a show and its actors for that many years, you are going to see them act in ways you cant support. everyones boundaries are different and ive withdrawn my support for people over things that other might find laughable, so i would never say that he hasnt done anything so bad that people should "unstan" him. personally, i dont think he has done something so bad that i cant ever support him again. over the decade he has said and posted some really dumb and sometimes offensive shit and i cant give you an itemised list of all happenings, but iirc he almost always apologised and i dont remember him making the same mistake twice. so if he says he apologises and is learning, i want to believe him, i just have no idea what thats going to look like.
see, a lot of us arent upset about a "misfired joke", if anyone else had done that people would be like "haha embarassing, lets move on", but a lot of people genuinely assumed him to be queer even before he made that comment, which is proven by the thousands of comments going like "i thought he had been out this entire time". a huge amount of people drew the conclusion, based on his actions and his words, that he wasnt straight, even though he personally never said so. so the thing most people are upset about is that theyre now having to recontextualise years (in my case a decade) of stuff we consciously or subconsciously interpreted as evidence. YES you shouldnt assume someones identity, but its not like he dissuaded people from speculating. quite the opposite and that is another reason why people are upset.
they feel like misha has been deceiving them, using his ambiguity for attention and support from lgbt people and theyre not entirely wrong. a lot of stuff can, in hindsight, be explained by him noticing that his fans seem to really respond to him acting a certain why, so why not act that up a little. what i take issue with is the claim that most of his personality and his support for queer causes were to garner support from queer people. i dont know the guy and i cant make any definitive statements, but i believe he is really mostly like that lmao. he has talked about how people are surprised by how, for a lack of a better word, 'unmasculine' or emotionally open he is. if he was just 'acting up the gay' around fans, then why have his colleagues and friends also commented on this? and he definitely has had to experience homophobic microaggressions esp on the set of spn, which doesnt make sense if hes like, a normal macho dude when fans arent watching. again, yes, i totally believe he purposefully exaggerated some of it bc fans eat that shit up and if nothing else hes a people pleaser. and also sometimes straight guys just act a little gay, idk what to tell you.
so now theres the theory that it actually WAS an honest comment, but for some reason he decided he needed to go back into the closet. now, if someone states their own orientation THIS explicitly im bound to accept that, however i can see where this theory is coming from, given that there are some instances that simply cant be explained as jokes or him acting up the gay etc. at least from our perspective. so idk buddy, he might be, he might not be. however i dont agree with the sentiment that him going back in the closet is funny. like ive seen posts like "funniest outome would be him actually coming out in 5 years and nobody believes him" idc if im a little softie, but that idea isnt funny to me at all. IF he ever comes out, im fully prepared to believe him immediately, even if it makes me look like a clown again.
so i can empathise with people having all kinds of reactions to this from trying to make sense of it, to distancing themselves, from trying to forget about it, to dragging him for filth, imho all valid reactions. i dont agree with people saying that this situation is the fault of the fans, ive said multiple times that this specific situation and the fact that people were so ready to believe he's bi were misha's own doing. and i dont agree with people saying he is a master manipulator who has been tricking lgbt people out of their money for years by being a 24/7 gay for pay.
so tl;dr: idk lol? im waiting to see how his behaviour changes after these events, but aside from being really confused i cant say my opinion of him has changed that much?

And i fucking missed my shit cause of these asks
God fucking damnit you demand peoples time over a serious topic and you waste it with these hard to parse together asks that you could for the love of god PROOFREAD BEFORE YOU SEND THEM ITS A FUCKING TEXT POST and them your point is “kagewaka’s friend was a pedo for drawing sexy adult cirno cause i see cirno as a child regardless of interpretation this makes me uncomfortable and im not gonna give the artist the benefit of the doubt on it being an adult depiction cause of this and not understanding the difference between ‘obvious pedo art with a button that says ‘were all adults!’ on it’ and art thats more ambiguous going ‘ this is an age-up the depiction is not of a child’ or nothing at all cause the art is clearly showing an adult body or even when it isnt as clear cause like people have different body types and art styles and they may not fucking come out looking perfect or might ride that line but thats why we have that gray area in the first place since like people are trying to improve their art and may not be there to specifically depict the body type well given their skill or comfort level its that fucking steven universe art controversy again where they like drew rose quartz or connie wrong cause they had a limited art style from lack of experience and a desire to stay in their stylistic comfort zone and like yeah you need to work on that but FUCK ME ART IS HARD AND EVEN THE SIMPLEST SHIT LIKE THAT CAN BE HARD TO GET RIGHT ON A PIECE THAT WAS MOST LIKELY JUST A BIT OF FUN FOR SOMEONE TO DRAW A CHARACTER THEY LIKE IF THE NOSE IS SMALL OR THE DEPICTION OF ROSE ISNT FAT ENOUGH ITS NOT ALWAYS A FUCKING BLATANT RACIST INTENT EVEN THAT SIMPLE SHIT LIKE TWO LINES OR A BODY TYPE IS DIFFICULT TO GET DOWN ON A PIECE RIGHT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DONT HAVE A LOT OF CONFIDENCE OR ARENT TRYING TO BRANCH OUT
YOU THINK THIS SHIT IS EASY CAUSE YOU CAN LOOK AT THE DAMN PICTURE? YOU THINK EVERY CURVE I DREW WAS 100% INTENTIONAL, LIKE IT WAS PLOTTED ON AN EQUATION ON A TI-93 AND JUST PRINTED OUT THAT SPECIFIC WAY BY MY HAND? I WOULD PAINT ANIMATED MONA LISAS IF NOT FOR THE LIMITATIONS OF MY FLESH. FUCK OFF.
intentionality my ass. not every artist is striving to reach your definition of what constitutes adult or not. not everyone is so trigger-happy on this shit, even if they may feel the skeev of an age-up on a kid character. These are not consessions and apologies, they're facts of the current world that you can't just smash into and hope to eradicate with these flimsy ass asks that you rapid fire off, with poorly worded justifications. With these fucking headcanons you hold so dearly that you feel them canon yet can't explain them when asked. God i hope this anon is who i think it is cause i'll look like a fool otherwise with that last sentence but the shoe is looking like it's fitting.

A MESSAGE TO THE PJO FANDOM
so hello friends on the other side
I understand some of the major concerns regarding characters like piper and the feather and hazels description but when you bring Leo and Reyna into the fucking conversation I have lost all respect.
ANYONE CAN BE ABUSED, ETHNICITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT
LATINO CHARACTERS
Reyna is not a negative stereotype, she isn't defined by being latina and neither is Leo, he isn't a stereotype simply because he’s latino and was abused. also him being called an elf was because he was short, which had nothing to do with him being latino. also the mamacita comment like y'all hide under the label “progressive” but ignore that mamacita has been a thing in Latin American communities for a fucking while. its not an insult dammit. its something that happens in our communities!!! its like saying muchacho y'all don't see men bitching about that.
also shocker I read the mamacita comment and I can proudly say I didn't go
“RICK YOU RACIST BITCH”
things that actually happen in communities aren't racist
and before any of y'all come at me with the usual you’re white excuse, hello friends im Peruvian and Paraguayan.
I don't think he’s perfect but bitching about characters like Leo which gave many of my Latin American friends hope for similar characters destroys your “listening to minorities” argument
also the lol “hes Mexican taco bad” argument like I live in Mexico we eat tacos like every fucking day. its literally a fact. and Leo isn't just defined as taco man.
believe it or not us latinos respect rick because he gave us role models and characters like us. we don't define a character by one line and instantly call discrimination. like yes a asian character can be snobby it has nothing to do with ethnicity. y'all are making this about ethnicity. an asian character can be anything, just like a white character or a black character or a gay character. people are not simply defined by their labels like ya’ll think. y'all are just a bunch of easily triggered snowflakes that can't live with that. they can be influenced but in the end labels are labels we are all human and should be treated as such.
LGBT REPRESENTATION
another thing Reyna was never officially a lesbian that was YOUR interpretation not riordans. IF HE DIDNT STATE IT , SORRY HONEY IT ISN’T CANON! I don't care about how she was “lesbian coded” if he didn't state it it isn't canon.
I am so sick, as a lesbian, to see people use ALL QUEER DEATHS as a bury your gay tropes, what happened to seeing us as humans? why can't we be treated like any other character? if we die we die, it isn't always “haha gay evil boom death”. sometimes fully fledged characters have to die friends.
Nico isn't a bad gay character, he’s just a normal character who happens to be gay and has suffered major trauma. HIS TRAUMA WAS CAUSED BY HIS UPBRINGING, Nico isn't a 2000′s character, he’s from the 30′s, so obviously he woudn’t be perfect with his sexuality for gods sake it was the 30′s. the exact same thing happens with hazel, she isn't a modern black woman, she's a 30′s black woman. Nico’s coming out isn't him as a 21st century teen its from the time when the GOVERNMENT KILLED YOU FOR BEING GAY
also saying there are no lesbian characters? like wow look emmie and jo don't exist. Lavinia doesn't exist. poison doesn't exist. thanks fam you really make yourselves look smart here. simply because rick never said the word gay doesn't mean the gay characters don't exist friends. they are just labeled as what gay characters should be labeled as.... human.
LESBOPHOBIA & RACISM
im not educated in muslim or black culture so I won't mention characters like sam and hazel and piper because I respect and I am highly critical of what rick put in his books to describe these specific minorities.
HOWEVER saying rick is a lesbophobe, a homophobe, a racist a sexist cis guy is like do y’all wanna be taken seriously? use arguments don't hide behind words.
rick isn't a perfect writer but y'all really don't know how to criticise, y'all just hide behind big boy words and back it up with no evidence, just opinions.
rick doesn’t have the best minority rep out there but he is damn well trying and I respect that unlike all you fucking idiots.
SHIPS
now onto ships.... yay
frazel: im not gonna censor it like you pussies, believe it or not 13&16 year old relationships exist. they might not always be healthy but they exist. to deny this is to be stupid
solangelo:  another ship that is censored..the main argument I've seen is that it isn't developed and will isn't even a character... he was in last olympian and lost hero not my fault y'all have fish brains. I don't care if you dislike it but don't be like “ANYONE WHO SHIPS THIS IS AN ABUSIVE WHORE” like wow you always preach about accepting all ships and then throw this? also if you hate solangelo because of the “abuse” but ship percico like hi friends Nico is 4 years younger than Percy.. if y'all hate frazel because of the 3 year age difference y'all should hate this too.
CONCLUSIONS AND SHIT
not every character minority or otherwise is gonna be the way you want them to be, believe it or not any character can be anything, black characters can be loud, white characters can be loud. if they're only loud because “haha black” then THATS an issue not the simple existence of a loud black woman who has a loud personality.
y'all be here bitching about drew and I've never heard the asian perspective of this? just a bunch of black and white people telling asians they should be offended. was that just an uno reverse?
also last point stereotypes aren't always a negative thing and y'all need to get that in your heads.
anyway stay mad hoes <3
from a sane Peruvian <3
EDIT
I saw this beauty and had to comment on it
“having LGBT characters experience abuse and violence. nicos forceful outing rubs me the wrong way, especially because hes called a coward for being in the closet. its violent and kind of disturbing to make your gay character come out of the closet by force. maybe write better. additionally, alex's abusive father and subsequent homelessness because of her being trans is badly written.”
oh noooo gay characters can't deal with homophobia anymore ! like I can tell you have never been punched for being gay. is it bad to showcase how trans and gay ppl are 40% of homeless youth? or is even mentioning that discrimination? believe it or not some of us live in countries where people try to kill us. you have an advantage and it shows. about the coward thing...
was FUCKING CUPID A GOOD CHARACTER? NO? I REST MY CASE. CUPID IS NOT SEEN AS A GOOD PERSON THEREFORE HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON GET THAT IN YOUR THICK SKULLS.
YOU HEARD IT HERE FOLKS LGBT FOLKS DONT GET FORCED OUT OF THE CLOSET
#NEVER HAPPENS IN REALITY.
JUST BECAUSE YOU WERENT FORCED OUT OF THE CLOSET DOESNT MEAN OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THAT SAME LUXURY.
maybe stop spewing bullshit <3
(so I get that this scene can remind people of being outed and it can hurt them however this scene was never intended to be a good thing it literally says Nico is scared of facing his emotions)
EDIT NUMBER 2
oh boy rick really pissed off the snowflakes that I share a fandom with
“give Nico to the gays” no? he would be a femboy and they would yeet his trauma like ssrsly?
also hate rick? bitch no one is forcing you to read his tweets.
death of the author is such a toxic thing like the mans is alive boo he aint going nowhere..like What the fuck
EDIT NUMBER 3
anyway final thoughts on this :
nico insn’t Uwu gay and its an insult to his character
Reyna is not a lesbian canonically (neither is Thalia)
Leo and Reyna are not racist
none of ricks characters are  written as insults to their communities
and if I see one more “but ....phobia/ ...ism I will do very illegal things
peace lol
RICK RIORDAN UPDATE:
congratulations rick antis! you have successfully harassed a  56 year old man into leaving social media! wow so progressive!!!! this totally won't backfire or anything!!!
all jokes aside all of you who harassed rick to the point of someone else taking over his social media should feel ashamed

This is Justine Damond. She happened to be white. She was shot to death by officer Muhammad Noor (who happened to be black.) It happened 3 years ago in the exact same city of Minneapolis, where all the rioting is happening now. Unlike Mr. Floyd, she had no criminal record (he had multiple convictions including for armed robbery.) Nor was she being arrested (as he was, for passing a bad check.) In fact, she had called the police to report an apparent assault behind her house and was running toward the police car to tell them what she had heard. She was in her pajamas. Officer Noor drew his weapon and shot her dead, apparently without any provocation at all. There were no riots.
Let me be crystal clear. Both officers are clearly guilty. I've seen the video of the Floyd incident. It's quite clear to me the officer in his case is guilty of first degree manslaughter, at least. He's entitled to his day in court. But, frankly, I can't even imagine what his defense attorney could say that would change my mind.
Sadly, there are bad cops who do bad things. They need to be punished.
But I'm far more concerned about the riots.
The riots will kill far more people.
There are powerful forces that are trying to destroy America. (Yes, LITERALLY destroy.) And there is a serious chance that they'll succeed.
These forces are mostly in media and entertainment and sports. Some are in politics.
They have decided that every bad thing a white person does to a black person must be interpreted, immediately,in the light of race. This, even though in a country of 330 million people sheer randomness will account for these incidents just as easily.
Black on white crime (far more common) will be ignored.
Black on black crime (most common of all) ignored.
White on white crime? (Are you kidding?)
But all white on black crime must be portrayed as a racial incident without any evidence whatsoever.
And it must be the lead story on national news immediately. Regardless of how many identical stories (with the wrong racial makeup) have been ignored.
Next the race hustling celebrities will make outrageous statements to the effect that all black people live in constant fear of being killed by any white person who comes anywhere near them.
Then the social media, that will censor any conservative statement such as "I like Trump," because its dangerous "hate speech," will allow all those incendiary comments to stand. Then they'll sit back and watch the fireworks.
The final stage, will be the infantilization of the rioters. Because the poor dears, who live in constant fear of murderous white people can't be blamed in they snatched a television or two, you know, for the sake of social justice.
This is the greatest danger facing America today. (If you know me at all, you know I dont often admit to a greater danger than the national debt.)
If we're going to win and save our country from turning into Bosnia, we need to lose our fear of speaking the truth.
Start with this:
There used to be ACTUAL racism in this country (and every other country.) Today there is NONE.
By "actual racism" I mean the sort that actually prevents people from living their lives as they wish and pursuing their dreams.
By "none" I mean zip, zero, nada.
Today, in America, we have the least racist society that ever was. Let's save it.
For our children.
And for the memory of Justine Damond and Gregory Floyd.

Not "autistic anon," but also autistic, (being called maybe ableist made me want to put this out there before go to bed) i thought Zane was depicted that way purposefully by the writers. He has stereotypical traits like taking things literally, and has an actual humor switch. The writers have done things with Zane before like have him lose bodily autonomy (during that one Wu's teas short) and did something with his voice be it making him unable to be understood or talking too loud and the forced pirate voice by Jay. (what you're doing isn't too different from that, right?) I thought it was just a little iffy to distort his body and memory bc that could be interpreted as something not that I'm sure what exactly, it's some kind of disability. I dunno. I'm not good with putting this to words. I hope this makes sense.
Sorry I went to bed but now I’m awake 😭
Also I ended up totally spilling all my thoughts here rather than only specifically replying to you please forgive me context: my scary zane concept design, & my ninjago rewrite i refer to a lot
Im a little confused but I think I get what you're saying? You're saying the Ninjago writers absolutely DON'T write Zane well (you listed examples of this) and you don't want me to fall into the same trap?
I had the opposite logic earlier. I thought: If Ninjago writers made Zane have stereotypical autisitic traits while also being a dehumanized robot, I may as well embrace it, say he is autistic blatantly, while also making him do funny/cool non-human robot things, so its clear as possible the two aspects of his character are literal and separate and not a metaphor for each other. But you're right! I do have a choice and I dont have to embrace things! :)
Like there were a couple ways I was gonna reject the original, for example, I never wanted Zane to have a funny switch, and I hated how other characters could fuck with Zane and he didn't even care 😬. I want to change that stuff. So youre right, if I am changing shit like that, it would be counterproductive for ME to GIVE him MORE traits along that theme. 😬😬😬 I should try to feel less obligated to portray Zane like he originally is. I still like the concept of "scary zane" (for reasons i explain below the cut) but I might tone it down a bit like with the claws and weird proportions and shit. I’d def make him look more skeletal and undead. That was my original intention, but i didnt execute it as good as I could have.... idk if anyone could tell thats what he was supposed to be like...my bad! But rn I dont wanna redesign him I wanna draw other stuff like normal alive Zane. Sorry LMAO 😳. Like I said in some earlier asks I think, I think Im gonna focus rn on how I should portray season 1 normal not dead Zane so thank you and feel free to share any other Zane thoughts ^_^ SOME OTHER THOUGHTS:
Also I Wanna Argue Some Stuff But I Understand its a Weak Argument Since All of This Context was Just In My Brain (so don't take this as an argument, just as me rambling): I don't want messed up things to happen to Zane and for it to just be ignored. I think if Zane is going to have fucked up things happen to him, as all characters must, its best for it to happen during a season where he actually addresses his feelings about being a robot (learning to accept that he will always be himself, regardless if hes "human" or the "original" or whatever. (thats how I always interpreted his emotions)). But I wouldn't have the other Ninja be very phased by Zane's looks because the whole point is they already love who he is (seasons 1-3 were about getting to know Zane) and now Zane himself just has to learn the physical, robot part of him is okay. Its about person-hood rather than humanity. Because the season focuses around Zane's soul, and because he lost his original body, I feel like I could mess around with his current, temporary body and have fun and make it scary. Because that body should be irrelevant. I understand it possibly being upsetting for an autistic character to be designed like this, but other people I talked to see it the opposite way. They find it comforting for him to look so different but still be himself and be so loved. SO IM ABSOLUTELY NOT saying its wrong to be bothered or to hate it or to feel any way. Just that I personally think it would be cool for Zane to be portrayed with a little spice lol, so thats why I like scary Zane for season 4.
Another Thing I Wannna Say But Is REALLY Hypocritical: (this isnt directed at anyone I just REALLY want to say this) I know I say "this is Zane but scary, he looks like fnaf" so he's obviously dehumanized, but I always felt like "scary" is more of an objective fact. Its an instinct. But what's "not human" is subjective. I think there is a problem with saying anything different from "average" human is dehumanized because that could extend to real people. Lol I know its bad for me to compare FNAF-ass Zane to real people, but I mean he could be real. People can have exposed teeth, and people can be shaped weird. And when someone first sees a person who looks like that they'll probably think "woah those features are scary" by instinct. And that surprise doesn't make someone ableist obviously. But bring that person’s humanity into question is NOT an instinct, and is fucked to shit. This is kinda a bad point for me to make since its about the fictional FNAF Zane I drew, and I am NOT implying ANYONE was thinking like this. [especially not the original asker anon who I am totally forgetting about at this point OOPS]. But I just thought it was an opinion of mine I couldn't go without mentioning when talking about dehumanization and disabilities.
^^^ I think you (anon) understand what I mean and might’ve said the exact same thing as me if you were writing a long ass response? I think this because you started to bring physical disabilities up and you said it was "a little iffy." ^_^ So we agree, but I don't see Zane's relation to real life disabilities as "a little iffy" I see it more like "complicated"? IF THAT DIFFERENCE EVEN MAKES ANY SENSE?????? I feel like a lot of things about Zane are really just complicated and need the right context, rather than the concepts necessarily being wrong -- NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT! THATS THE WHOLE REASON I DO THIS STUPID REWRITE! XD thats why a lot of my rewrite SO FAR has been the same concepts and plot beats, but different dialogue n specifics and such. I like a lot of concepts in Ninjago but I dont think they were presented correctly.....! :( So I guess all we can do is wait and see if I make Zane offensive or not....???
Also something about the memory part - yeah i agree i was surprised no one thought that was weird to make jokes out of his memory issues..... BUT I am like 100% firm on making his memory take longer to come back because I think its stupid how quick Zane was able to recover from literally dying. Like its just dumb to me. Hate it. (also bc memory & soul mechanics is ummm kinda important in my rewrite.... for reasons). Another memory thing btw, I was going to make his original amnesia come from hitting his head in an attack against the Skulkin when they stole his dads corpse, rather than his dad fucking choosing to make him forget. (its a sweet & iconic scene, but Um, WHY?!!!?!?!?!?) He has to follow data recovery instructions he finds in his dads diary. I think in that context it makes moments of memory loss somewhat different for Zane's character? Instead of loss of autonomy associated with disability, its a literal violent loss of autonomy associated with being traumatized by physical force. Idk how to phrase it exactly but I think that makes some vibes different?
Sorry, I think I got really distracted, and I don't know if I responded well to your points. Because uhhhh I think I agree with your stance actually? If I understand correctly? Fuck Ninjago writers for making the robot lose autonomy (a stereotypical robot theme) while also making him seem clearly autistic (NOT A HAPPY THEME FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE) and not addressing it. And also auuugh Zane with a weird body is a difficult topic - kinda sussy pretty iffy.
Lol anyway idk if this made any sense and I REALLY rambled on you. but this was nice 👉👈 more Zane criticism pls love you and i love zane. i hope u dont feel mad at me because then it would be weird that im saying that lol. if you do feel mad at me tho you can send another ask (ILL TRY TO JUST LISTEN NOT RAMBLE NEXT TIME) but assuming ur chill rn, love you thnx

Wanted to ask about beetlelyds, sorry, I thought it was technically cannon? Like in the old comics after the show ended she grew up and married him. Sorry I’m an old school fan and have no idea why this whole thing is such a big deal. Wasn’t the actor like 20 too? I’m sorry if I sound very dumb. I’m not used to this new tumblr.
youre fine you are one hundred percent allowed to especially when you do it civilly as you have done here
first of all the biggest issue faced in the whole what is and is not canon debate is the fact that there are three (four if you count the limited comics run) publicized iterations of my media
i will go over each very briefly just kidding this is going to a long answer so i will spare the dashboard with a readmore
there is the movie which im sure you dont need me to explain the plot since youre an old school fan but basically the climax is that yes beetlejuice does go for the marriage angle in exchange for stopping the exorcism of adam and barbara and his motive for this is so that he can cause as much chaos as he wants on the mortal coil but his plan is thwarted when barbara rides a sandworm into the house which promptly eats beetlejuice sending him to bureaucratic death limbo
the end of the movie features the deetz and the maitlands happily living together with lydia havign a new appreciation for her situation and beetlejuice gets his head made real small which is very funny haha
so no in the movie they are not canon editors note the actress who played lydia winona ryder was a teenager while filming the movie she turned 17 the year it released
the next is the cartoon which i will admit has the most grounds for being considered canon but in the end the show is about a middle schooler and her best friend who is a ghost which in itself is a pretty iffy gray area sort of thing but for a childrens cartoon to work a friendship is better than the obvious enemy status they held in the movie
anyway in the cartoon they are potrayed to be very close friends with lydia being the person beetlejuice cares about the most and honestly if you were to watch it with no prior knowledge of the media and if you ignored their massive and obvious age difference than yeah you probably would read it as a romantic relationship
however lydia is a middle schooler and that is simply immoral
there have been writers for the cartoon who have been credited to say that a relationship is what they were trying to invoke but for obvious reasons they couldnt exactly move forward with that angle with them establishing that lydia is a child in middle school and a fully grown adult man dating a child who is in middle school is immoral and also illegal in the united states and in canada
this isnt a good argument for whether or not something is canon and i will tell you why with one simple name and that is luke weber
if you dont know who luke weber is he was a storyboard artist on the cartoon steven universe he is known for making a lot of self ship artwork of him and the character pearl
he worked on the show isnt his material canon no of course it isnt it wasnt put in the actual publication and also if memory serves he was eventually asked to leave the project after he drew art of the shows creator giving him permission to date pearl and calling them her otp and a lot of fans hated this because the most generally accepted interpretation of pearls character is that she is sapphic so a lot of people took issue however that again is just a widely perceived headcanon it is never stated what her actual sexuality is no one in that show is because it isnt a show about that its about wait im getting off topic sorry
what im saying is what can truly be considered canon is what you see on the screen and with the cartoon they are definitely the most friendly with each other and that is why so many people in the beetlebabe shipping community take so much stock in the cartoon because it is the easiest to read the relationship between the mas romantic although that is not what the show actually provides in black and white terms
interpretation does not equal canon and in this case no matter what anyone says the fact remains that in the cartoon itself they are friends good friends yes but friends all the same
it is definitely not a show about a grown man grooming an adult and if it were you definitely shouldn’t be stanning it the extreme because grooming a minor is wrong and it is apparently a problem in the fandom
anyway if the cartoon and the movie are both products of their time and there was more leniency on content bear in mind this was the same era as notorious animation powerhouse and known predator john k who was a showrunner on ren and stimpy and he maintained a relationship with a teenager which was an open secret that nobody really took issue with because in that time being a woman in the animation industry was tricky business and your career could be ended easily if you rejected advances luckily time has moved forward and the animation industry although still full of problems of a similar nature at least people are getting called out and punished for it
you can look more into that yourself its really upsetting though
as for comics i havent been able to find good scans of them and im not willing to purchase them but in my search i never found anything about the two of them ever being married in the cartoon again because she is a child i did find a cover where he appears to be getting married and hes asking lydia to get him out of it but im not sure where the comic actually goes all i know is she is standing off to the side shrugging and looking like she doesnt really care
anyway that brings us to the musical which is set in the modern day
in the original libretto lydia is described as thirteen but since they got an actress who was older in the updated librettos she is listed as 15 and the story is pretty similar to the movie the young girl befriends ghosts and they try to scare her family out etc etc
the major difference between the film and the musical are that lydia and beetlejuice are more like friends like in the cartoon
she summons him to help scare after the maitlands attempt doesnt really work so he shows up and they have fun terrorizing people together however she drops him for the opportunity to perhaps get her mom back but when no one will help she goes back to beetlejuice who tricks her into almost exorcising barbara
she agrees to marry him in order to stop the exorcism and he only wants to get married so he can be alive again and cause problems on the mortal coil like in the movie in the musical he states several times its a green card thing whihc obviously doesnt make it okay but still
anyway lydia tricks him and runs off into the underworld before the wedding can happen blah blah blah she goes back blah blah and she agrees to go through with the wedding to save her friends and family with a plan to make him go away for good
theres a very tongue and cheek song called creepy old guy which points out how wrong the whole thing is but everyone is going along with it in a very comedic matter and it includes the line
i cant believe some cultures think this kind of things alright
basically saying yeah this is very very wrong anyway they do get married and beeltjeuice is alive for like 6 seconds before lydia stabs him to death with bad art and he dies thus nullifying the marriage because death do you part etc
so in the musical no at the end of the show they are not canon because he is dead their marriage is nullified and they go their separate ways
anyway sorry about that i just need to make it very clear that these three properties are all very distinct from each other and basically all three are indeed canon since they are publicized material and arguing the validity of which one is pointless editors note all actresses who played with the exception of dana steingold were minors for the majority of their runs as lydia with sophia ann caruso the originator of the role turning 18 during the run and dana being in her late twenties presley ryan however was a minor the whole time and still is one
tldr no they aren’t canon but to the credit of some people in this fandom their interpretation isnt too far of a stretch thanks to the era and some of the writers wishing to imply a relationship between an adult and a child
i also need to address how this is all a big deal and i suggest you take a peak through my discourse tag and check out @leedia‘s blog to see some of the more harmful things done by beetlebabe shippers
the beetlejuice fandom is home to many minors after the musical came out since musical fandom is vast and the ages of its members varies and normalizing pedophilia is harmful to them not to mention the people who have been effected by sexual harassment at the hands of adults
both sides have victims of csa but one side continues to perpetuate the cycle by showing time and time again that this behavior is normal and easily romanticized in the name of coping and literally anyone who has ever been to a good and credible therapist could tell you that posting cp even if it is simulated cp isnt a really good way to cope and you can get mad at me for saying that its totally fine but and im going to remove my character veil here for just a second as a csa survivor myself i think its harmful to not only myself but many others ok the veil is back down
tldr again there is a lot of bullying and harassment going on with both sides having their own issues but there is one side whos issues run a bit deeper in my humble opinion
thank you for your question it allowed me to talk a lot you are welcome to discuss further with me in dms if you wish i honestly recommend giving the musical a listen because it is very fun and despite what some people say its very clever and if you get a chance to see a boot of it its visually stunning
one last note that i couldnt really fit in here but a large portion of the beetlebabes shipping community ignore the musical because it openly condemns the idea of beeltejuice and lydia having a relationship and a lot of the antis take issue with much of the writing and characterizations of the cartoon just a note that i think is important since were talking about canon

so here’s my peace on the article, not that anyone asked. and im sure i’ll get shouted at BUT, here goes.
i think the very nature of fandom is to direct a lot of time, energy, emotions into a single entity, whether that be a person, group, book, show, etc. i think its safe to assume that in most cases, we enjoy that particular entity because it appeals to us, and perhaps on some level, an element of it/them rings true with a part of ourselves. i joke and say that we didnt pick harry and instead he chose US, harry potter sorting hat style. but what i think is that it speaks (potentially) to something deeper: that there’s an unspoken feeling, instinct, etc that drew us to him, and has kept us here this long.
when you put that type of energy into someone (someone who feels larger than life a lot of the time, but we must remember that he’s a real human person with a life and feelings and sides of himself that we might never be privy to), i think it’s only natural to have some unrealistic expectations and wants regarding aspects of that person. what’s unique (or not that unique, i dont know as i dont follow anyone else as closely as i do him) about a sizable chunk of harry’s fan is that a lot of us are lgbt. and with that comes a whole slew of very complicated feelings. a lot of us know better than anyone what its like to totally hate the idea of someone prying into your personal life. the uncomfortableness that comes with someone asking you a question where you know the answer you give is going to affect how they see you. we know what it’s like to desperately want some type of representation; the sheer joy of finding out that someone you admire is like you in some way. and grappling with feelings that are seemingly on opposite ends of a spectrum of happiness and anger isnt easy. at our cores, i would like to hope that we’re all decent people (and while im here, being lgbt does not make you exempt from criticism or being shitty, despite what some might like to think) who have a firm grasp of understanding on how invasive and unnecessary it is for people to be picked apart about their sexuality/gender; that a person should be allowed to exercise autonomy and say ‘im not obligated to explain myself or how i feel’. however, i do think that a part of human nature, from the time we learn to speak and pester people with questions of ‘why’ and ‘how’, that we’re often insatiably curious. we like definitive answers. we like having something tangible to hold onto. throw in the undeniably confusing phenomena that seems to surround the concept of celebrity, where once a person becomes famous, their whole life and self should be available for public consumption at all times, and you have a cocktail for some weirdness.
i have found myself guilty of being frustrated by harrys...aloofness. his desire for ambiguity. ‘why doesnt he just say SOMETHING’ or ‘i would like a more clear answer’ pop up frequently, usually when quotes and interviews like these arise and stir up feelings that are usually more dormant and placid. but, then i take a step back. and remember that im not entitled to anything. none of us are. we’re very luck he shares with us the things he does. ive come to realize that there is nothing more authentic than his palpable trepidation whenever the subject of sexuality is brought up. how would i feel, in his shoes? probably not very good. i wouldn’t want to be needled and questioned. i haven’t even told my parents about how i identify, never mind the whole world. ive also been guilty of questioning the vague nature of his quotes. text is a funny medium--tone can be interpreted many ways when youre not hearing the person speak, when youre not able to see their expressions. ive thought ‘maybe im projecting too much. maybe he actually means this’ re: ‘ive never felt the need to label myself’. and, as much as anyone doesnt want to hear it, there’s still the possibility that we could be reading it wrong, and thats okay too. but harry asking ‘why’ regarding the reason behind being asked in the first place, saying that its not a case of sitting on an answer to keep it from people, saying ‘who cares?’ needs to be taken for what it is.
i understand, selfishly, where the interviewer was coming from with ‘unless the person behind it happens to be a straight dude, sprinkling lgbtq crumbs that lead to nowhere.’ it perhaps could’ve been handled more delicately, and i think its definitely a tad aggressive when harry seemed done with the question already, but i get the sentiment. and that just brings me back to my original point: that we know what the boundaries are, we have the understanding that harry doesnt owe us any explanations, but we’re still curious. ive seen a lot of people upset that the question was even asked, people upset that they didn’t get the answers they might have been after, and people asserting that they know the real truths behind harry’s words/thoughts/actions. there’s hope for 2 of those 3 groups. for the first, i try to remind myself that harry has a good head on his shoulders. he knows how to stand up for himself (this interview proved what we already knew). his words alone have filled me with a sense of confidence that he simply does not give a fuck about what other people think or say. for the second group, if youre feeling a little stung, i want you to think about why. why is it so important to you that he say one thing or another; your priority should be yourself. stop putting so much stock into the identity of others. wanting to connect and share a thread with another person is totally natural, but you have to remember that harry is a real person who isn’t existing to support you or be a performance of your hopes and desires re: what you want from him. step back and reflect. sometimes its not the initial thoughts, but how you change and learn. as for the third group, if youre not harry styles or have not been informed via harry styles himself about anything regarding his identity, you dont know shit. you can interpret things any way you want, but don’t make sweeping statements and pretend to be enlightened when youre no better than the people who assume he’s straight, no matter how you justify it to yourself under the guise of support and understanding. and that’s all i have to say

But i’ve seen that lots of you guys don’t mention/add/credit the original photo when you guys use some photos as a reference. I’m not talking aboit drawing memes or obvious paraodys- i’m talking about drawing right from photos that can be found at pinterest or instagram. I really think you guys should credit the photo or mention that you used a reference. BC i feel like I’ve been fooled; i thought that the drawing was original piece, but later i found ref pics at pinterest.
"I’m not saying using reference is wrong. I’m saying pretending that the drawing didn’t use a ref or the drawing is original, that is wrong."----I agree to a certain degree. Now I can't speak for other artists you've seen, but I put either in caption or in tag that a reference was used. Particularly if the pose is traced then the faces, clothes changed for the casual quickie fanart. Admittedly my earlier stuff doesnt do this, and others dont as well, but that doesnt mean people claim they drew it original. Ive seen a couple of people go out of their way and deny having a reference or tracing when they clearly did. Now THATs messed up.1. Free, casual fanart is often just something you want to draw and not think about too much. So we look up references and plaster our characters onto them. Often, these are free to use, come in groups of poses, are stick figures or faceless mannequins intrnded for use as refs, and the original artists say they can be used without credit as long as you dont claim theyre yours. Because in that context its a kind of resource rather than someone's property that you shouldnt reuse or repost. Now if they say otherwise, of course you credit and link. It's a context thing. How did the original artist intend for such references to be used?2. I know many people use Pinterest to make moodboards, mix and match things they like, tweak it, change it, let their work be inspired by it etc. Its part of the creative process to take from influences sometimes. Barring someone copying each part exactly from different sources, that kind of referencing usually doesnt need credit. Because the result is often an interpretation of things you researched and were inspired by.Now if its like what PB does where they put a real life outfit on their drawn characters... then ask us to pay 25 diamonds for them... thats iffy territory. The kind of undrstood rule here is, if its free and for personal use, using references to help you out w a pose/outfit isnt a crime. Leaving out the credit is usually contextual, depending on what the original artist intended w their refs, or if the photo is public, free property. Denying you used a ref and saying youre amazing and did it yourself is def wrong. Using someone else's obviously original art that is not intended for public use is wrong.Lastly, this is similar, but a different debate. And just bc an artist used a reference to aid in what ends up being their own work (barring copying everything in the ref exactly ofc), doesnt negate the fact that someone reposting it is also wrong in the first place.

i was catching uo with this season and i know this is a weird question but do you have any headcanons about stef and lena as kids?
I hadn’t had any till Lena told Stef that Mariana didn’t grow up playing with GI Joe like Stef did. I imagine Lena would know exactly what she’s talking about. So, we got a very talented artist who drew her interpretation of that headcanon here.

You should do a gif series of Stef and Lena rubbing each other's backs. I love the little things they do for each other.
Hmm, yes, that’s possible. There are so darn many though lol
Anonymous said:
In rewatching old stef and Lena scenes... Its the greatest. They act so in love. Almost like they will die if they dont touch each other right that second. Sure they didn't always agree but the way they handled it...we need more
Yes, the touching is what we need. There have been times when we have been deprived... and I think they’re back to being naturally affectionate.
Anonymous said:
Did you ever get into the show Grey's Anatomy?
No. I am picky with my shipping. It’s not my kind of show but I watched it when I heard about Erica and Callie. I liked the story but hated what they did with the story and the way they treated the actress. I was done. I never tuned in again. I keep in touch with the stories like I do with most lesbian things, but I don’t watch it. Why?
Anonymous said:
I would love a Mother's Day episode. Just an episode for the mamas. Of course the kids will be there. Seeing them doing to things for their mamas. Maybe it being Jude and Callie first Mother's Day since their mom died.
I am at the point where I think we’ll get Father’s Day again before we get a Mother’s day.

The idea that Lena was Stef's first woman lover is just so sexy to me. But since the show has never confirmed it I really wish it would be addressed. Also, what makes you think they're just vanilla in the bedroom?  I think  they can get a little wild sometimes. And if they are vanilla it would only because they have a house full of kids.
I think it’s almost confirmed. I mean, some would argue a thing with a girl in college could mean sex, but seeing how repressed Stef was, I doubt it very much. I think Lena was her first female lover. I didn’t say vanilla couldn’t get wild. I just don’t think they get to involved with toys or role play, hence vanilla.

I'm the anon that wrote about the facts of Callie drama being wrong to clearify jail is for misdemeanors, lower level crimes like petty larceny, and typically is only for a year of less of time incarcerated but prison is felonies and is longer scentences for crimes like running away from a car crash. It was just annoying men that they got it wrong
Ok, I didn't realize there was a difference. I realize that it’s common knowledge with law enforcement and yes the show should know better. I feel your pain though because they get a lot of things about schools completely wrong.
Anonymous said:
I agree on less Callie. They don't always have to give her a big storyline. She could go to away to college. Just see her be happy and have fun. If she's happy then that's less stress on the moms and pretty much the whole family.
Her character could use less screen time. Very few people aren’t fed up with her story. I think they expect us all to just feel for her and identify but it was too much.

Hey guys i just wanna say, i don't like telling anyone what to do. But id rather just suggest stuff. You can disagree with me on this topic and im glad to listen :")!! But this is my opinion and if you dont agree then just leave! I do myself draw fanart and fandom related things here and there, and I think its something really fun and nice to do!! But I've been seeing a lot of artists and even some of my artist friends who end up only drawing that sort of stuff since its what gets more followers and notes. I personally, think its something sad. But dont get me wrong! There are artist who like and would rather draw fanart only, and im fine with that. But i think theres a difference when someone is having fun w/ it, and just doing it cause they want followers, notes, and some confidence? I love doing fanart! Its always fun and its something special for me everytime. But im not going to keep drawing it because people like it. It ends up losing its pizzazz and becomes like a job, where i gotta start contributing to the fandom or people will "forget" me. I draw fanart when i want /ask for requests :)! I'm an artist who enjoys doing my own stuff, i guess "original" stuff. But stuff thats not so much tied to a franchise/person/ etc. " oh but miisty aren't you part of the furry fandom???!!1" Yes! And no at the same time :D Last time i checked, the "furry " fandom isnt owned by anyone, i dont reference my "furry" (i prefer to call them anthros) characters to one "main furry" character. I either make my characters based simply off of animals or just randomly, and in my style i prefer to have them on (cause theres a bunch of different ways you can draw an anthro character). But i put a lot of effort and thinking into my characters that i sometimes dont see them being part of the furry fandom, they become my original characters!! :D just really fluffy lol! Making a furry character is honestly the same as making a human character. And no one complains about a human character oc being part of a fandom/ fanart for something (key word is oc). Anyways, like i was saying. Im an artist who likes to do my own stuff a lot more than just drawing fanart. And i know theres a ot of other artists who does the same! But i believe we should get the same support as those who draw fanart more than ocs. Artists who put more effort into making their characters, lore, etc dont get the recognition as someone who draws simple fanart and then everyone is all over them. I can be bitchy, im not gonna apologize for it but i would favor an artist who has the creativity and determination who keeps on making ocs and creating lore, and showing off their own creations. Someone who can built their own confidence naturally, than having someone give them the confidence for something that shouldnt represent them. Some would disagree with me. But let me remind you again, if you enjoy drawing fanart, just cause YOU enjoy it. Then im really happy. You have that natural confidence in you. But if you draw fanart and wait for the veiws, and wait for the followers, you wait for the notes, etc etc. Then i just feel sad when you brag about it, or get surprised. Honestly, you should've seen that shit coming, wheter being an experienced artist/ just starting. Theres also artists who draws fanart to gain attention and gain followers just so then they can start drawing oc stuff and have more people see it. First of all, ive always seen that sort of stuff as clickbaiting. Don't get me wrong. That shit works, youre gonna get followers and attention. But in my opinion, its more awarding doing your own shit and doing that shit good. Challenge yourself than taking the easy route, cause then you might end up commiting to something you could possibly regret. I like to stay true to myself. I think its 10x better being yourself and do things you wanna do. That it needs to be recognized in some way you know? We need more rolemodels or atleast support these rolemodels who shoot off these amazing and original content!! Need rolemodels who are confident and let others know to be confident in their own ideas and skin. Ive experienced being the type of artist who drew mainly for a fandom (fnaf) and saw how people favored the fnaf content than my own. I started it actually as an experiment, an experiment than proved me right on something. While drawing fnaf stuff It was nice but fucking sucked when i posted my own shit i put more effort in, cause not much cared. I ended up stopping making the fanart and wanted to keep only doing my own things. People ended up ignoring my own stuff/ lil attention that i ended up stop posting in there at all. Since it was an experiment it wasn't like i was gonna keep staying there. After that i kinda understand that whole weird and sad concept. Again, i think there needs to be a lot of support/recognition for the artists who do their own thing. Just as equal to artist who draw fanart :") REMINDER: THIS IS MY OPINION, IF YOU DISAGREE I 100% UNDERSTAND. Say your own opinion! People have different views, and different ways interpreting things!

Can YouTube star PewDiePie survive this latest scandal?
An image from YouTube Red’s “Scare PewDiePie.”

How far is too far?
For PewDiePie ranked Forbes‘ highest-paid YouTube star of 2015 and 2016 that question had never been a problem.
In the last year, the Swedish gamer has: tweeted that he and YouTuber Jacksepticeye have “joined ISIS“; bashed reporters for singling him out in articles about the Federal Trade Commission and Warner Bros. “pay for play” settlement; hated on a rival channel which stars a 5-year-old; and trolled fans by saying he would delete his channel after he reached 50 million subscribers but instead deleted a secondary channel he barely uses.
Despite this, most fans stood by PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg. His business partners remained silent about his often inappropriate jokes and actions.

But on Monday, PewDiePie’s trolling posting videos containing anti-Semitic “jokes” and Nazi imagery cost him his biggest business relationships: Disney and YouTube.
Disney’s digital entertainment company Maker Studios dropped PewDiePie after The Wall Street Journal’s extensive review of the YouTubers recent videos. YouTube subsequently canceled season two of its Red series Scare PewDiePie, and removed the star one of their biggest names from the Google Preferred advertising program.

This is the first time such a huge YouTube star arguably the biggest YouTuber has faced such repercussions for his actions.
Now, the industry is at a crossroads. Will businesses reliant on YouTubers for revenue scrutinize their content more? And if they do, will it even matter for these stars, who have already built their own massive followings?
“This is a critical moment for the oftentimes awkward dance that YouTubers and brands have been doing,” said Chris Allieri, principal, Mulberry & Astor, a communications and public affairs consultancy.”Its a risk for brands to associate with YouTube talent, especially the irreverent and at times controversial ones.”
If PewDiePie mostly survives this big of a scandal, it will mean that anything goes in the YouTube world. And businesses may not even have a say.
‘Broadcast Yourself’
Since its inception 10 years ago, YouTube has operated under the motto “broadcast yourself.”
That in turn has made the platform home to anyone and everyone who wants to voice their views via vlogging. Overnight, an average Joe with solid views could become a celebrity.
For that reason, fear of consequence doesnt prevail in the digital space. Most digital stars arent contracted at a studio and most dont have a small army of handlers to whom they are accountable.
Many digital influencers achieved fame for themselves. And since their uncensored selves are the reason for their fame, they dont listen anyway, many in the industry who have worked with creators have told Mashable.

There have been other instances where agencies and PR firms have dropped clients over conduct. But it’s never been this public, nor has it been with someone considered one of YouTube’s biggest personalities.
YouTube has never really censored PewDiePie. The platform’s guidelines give creators permission to be satirical. However, controversial or sensitive subjects and events, including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies, even if graphic imagery is not shown are prohibited.
In a statement sent to reporters early on Tuesday morning, a YouTube spokesperson confirmed that the platform has decided to kill Season 2 of PewDiePie’s show and remove the PewDiePie channel from Google Preferred. The company, however, will not remove any of his channels.
For some in the industry, PewDiePie’s scandal serves as a reminder of what needs to be done when creators cross the line.
“There should be repercussions for any talent on any medium for promoting hate and intolerance,” Keith Richman, president of Defy Media, said in an interview. “We should value free speech and his right to say it, but that does not mean there should not be repercussions.”
Others, like Allieri, said it will help YouTubers with positive messages rise.
“I think that the horrible comments PewDiePie made and equally important his troubling response to the backlash, will give pause to the savvier YouTubers who are looking to associate with brands, monetize their channels and want to be known for bringing folks together and making people feel good.”
Fan support vs. business backing
PewDiePie got his start in 2010 making funny videos of himself playing games. He was one of the pioneers of the now popular “Let’s Play” YouTube genre, which features video game-play alongside footage of the players narration and reactions.
Maker Studios, which Disney purchased in 2014 for a whopping $675 million, boasts a network of about 55,000 independent creators who collectively draw in 10 billion views per month. PewDiePie, who joined the network in 2012 with just 3 million subscribers, was their biggest star by far.
YouTube had him plastered on billboards across the globe. Susanne Daniels, Head of YouTube Originals, has used Scare PewDiePie as an example of a successful series that actually drew in fans to YouTube Red.
PewDiePie now has over 53 million subscribers to his main channel.
His book This Book Loves You made the New York Times bestseller list and his YouTube Red series Scare PewDiePie before being canceled was a top performer. His second video game, PewDiePies Tuber Simulator, was downloaded more than 1 million times within 24 hours of its release.
Some think losing Maker Studios and YouTube’s support will definitely damage PewDiePie’s reputation.
“The things he posted and portrayed give license to supremacism by normalizing hate speech,” Allieri said. “Disney, Maker and YouTube helped him grow his presence – without them (or his other advertisers) he will be seriously challenged. Whether or not he immediately loses followers will remain to be seen. But this is a black mark that he may never shed. Ever.”
But many of PewDiePie’s most fervent fans seem to disagree. On Twitter, some were confused why PewDiePie was trending (pointing out that he had made it on BBC News). Others called out Disney and YouTube for cutting ties.
Seriously. Why is everyone dropping @pewdiepie now? This is old news and obviously people don’t understand comedy.

In general, the attitude toward PewDiePie among the YouTube community has either been burning hatred or fervent love.
#pewdiepie is just a goofy Youtuber fitting for the OCD generation, not a modern Goebbels. Hunt some real Nazis, why don’tcha?

Even YouTuber Phil DeFranco, known for his videos about news and pop culture, suggested on Twitter the news could elevate PewDiePie rather than harm him.
Also to people saying this is the end of @pewdiepie‘s career…You are so incredibly wrong. He has the advantage here. You just don’t see it

YouTube star Casey Neistat, who announced in November that he is no longer going to keep a daily vlog, also weighed in.
“I’d like to preface all of it by saying I’ve met PewDiePie… in my very best judgment I don’t think the guy has a hateful bone in his body,” Neistat says in the video. “I don’t think his intent was to spread hate … [but] when you have 53 million subscribers it does come with a responsibility and that responsibility is to understand your audience and understand how your words are going to be interpreted. So while you are may be saying something is a joke, your audience may not always interpret it as that.”
PewDiePie didn’t respond to Mashable’s request for comment.
But on Sunday, he posted on his Tumblr that he wanted to clear some things up” about some of his videos featuring the anti-Semitic remarks.
“This originated from a video I made a couple of weeks ago,” he wrote in the post. “I was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online. I picked something that seemed absurd to meThat people on Fiverr would say anything for 5 dollars. I think its important to say something and I want to make one thing clear: I am in no way supporting any kind of hateful attitudes. I make videos for my audience. I think of the content that I create as entertainment, and not a place for any serious political commentary. I know my audience understand that and that is why they come to my channel. Though this was not my intention, I understand that these jokes were ultimately offensive. As laughable as it is to believe that I might actually endorse these people, to anyone unsure on my standpoint regarding hate-based groups: No, I dont support these people in any way.”
