Interview with the Vampire zine titled "Ruthless Pursuit of Blood" banning anything beyond mild blood and any "problematic" content (even if canon), but will consider art depicting racism bc its part of canon....
And they're wanting to sell this fanzine
Based on work from an author renowned within the Fandom community for being hostile toward them...
This is such a shit show lmao

Organia Fanzine | Merle Decker, 1982
“We used to come here all the time when we were kids,” Jim told him, flopping down on his back on the grass, “because nobody ever bothered us.” Spock followed his lead more gingerly, making sure there were no nettles or honeybees beneath him before he allowed himself to sit.
Curiously, he examined the strange vegetation around them: white filigree Queen Anne’s lace, exotic milkweed pods bursting with silky down, thistles with their soft, shaggy indigo flowers. A yellow butterfly drifted by on effortless wings. For once, Jim knew the variety, he did not.
Jim reached up and stroked his cheek fondly. “You never stop being a scientist, Spock.”
“The vegetation here is extremely rich,” he muttered, studying the drops of white fluid that seeped from a broken milkweed stem.
“I’ll bet you could spend a lifetime studying it.” Jim took his hand gently and lifted it from the grass to hold it in his own.
The cool, firm touch struck a chord of pleasure within him, and he looked at Jim, an eyebrow raised. “At least a lifetime.”
Jim squeezed his hand. “The hell with Starfleet, then. The hell with the Admiralty, the Lexington, the Outer Rim -- Let’s stay right here.”
Spock’s heart thudded ridiculously, so hard he had to turn his face away, afraid his expression would betray him. “It is warmer here than in San Francisco,” he said irrelevantly.
Jim nodded. “Almost as warm as Vulcan. But you’d have to hibernate in the winter.”
“Actually, I should prefer to stay awake,” Spock answered drily.
Kirk pulled himself up by Spock’s hand and leaned toward him. “What would you do without your computers?” he asked lightly, trying to sound mock-teasing. But the undertone of sadness in his voice betrayed him.
Spock shook his head ruefully. “My computers. And your command.”
He had not meant to sound bitter, but Kirk’s eyes clouded over, and he was silent for several moments. Finally, he spoke. “I need you, too, you know.”
Spock nodded, looking down at his hand, still holding Kirk’s. “I know.”
“You’re probably going to tell me now that both needs are illogical.”
The words pricked a schoolboy memory somewhere deep in the recesses of Spock’s mind, and a corner of his mouth curved up infinitesimally.
“Why’re you smiling?” Kirk asked, puzzled. Spock looked at him quizzically. Only Jim would read that gesture as a smile.
“You have reminded me of a well-known problem…”

The Lost Boys Incorrect Quotes - Community Inspired

Edgar: I don't want to be your father.
Sam: Perfect, you already know your lines.

Star: Michael, your entire identity has been consumed by your relationship with a another man.
Michael, closing his eyes: You found my Billy Idol fanzine subscription.

Paul: I was born in '59.

Paul: Which would make me twenty-seven, because everyone is ten for two years.
*David, staring in silence*
Paul: Because fifth grade is really hard for everyone...
Paul: Mom, how many lies have I been living?

Marko: Paul and I have an agreement.
Marko: If one of us dies, we stage it as a suicide caused by the unjust cancellation of Diff'rent Strokes.
Marko: We're gonna get that show back on the air, buddy.

We’ve been getting a lot of asks about what the application process will look like and what to do, so here are a few tips that should help you out! (This is not required reading if you’re looking to apply, but it might help!)
When you’re applying for a spot on the DCA fanzine, we will be asking to see examples of your existing work. You might be wondering what would be considered a good fit, and which of your existing pieces to choose to show off in your contributor application.
NOTE: PLEASE do NOT create pieces you are intending to submit to be included in the zine itself as part of your application! Zine pieces are to be created by contributors in the three month period following their being selected to be on the zine. We cannot guarantee you a spot, so please don’t burn yourself out trying! There will be other chances!
(Oh, and please ensure viewing permissions are on when you’re sharing any links in your application, so we can see your work!)
Now on to the fine details …
For all applicants:
This zine is a celebration of our beloved celestial jester(s), the daycare attendant(s) - you will need to submit at least one example piece in your application (preferably more) that features these characters, with depictions of them in a canon-adjacent* form being a huge bonus.
Pieces submitted in your application should ideally be safe for work, as this will be a safe for work zine. This zine isn’t playing to a specific mood or genre, so feel free to go wild with depictions of fluff, angst, horror, etc. so long as these fit broadly under the PG-13 rating. Shipping ideally shouldn’t be the focus of every example provided either as this zine will not be specifically focused around romantic ships but more on the character(s) of the daycare attendant(s) themselves.
A limited number of AU spots will be available but in order to accept AU works as final pieces in this zine we request that you must either be the creator of the AU, or have express permission from the AU’s creator.
*Canon-adjacent here doesn’t mean the depiction has to be biblically accurate, just that the design should not differ so substantially from what would typically be recognised as the DCA to essentially be a separate character. This fandom is intensely creative and we love and applaud the originality of the many different variants of the DCA, but this zine aims to focus primarily on canon-adjacent depictions, with a limited number of slots for AU content as well. Having canon-adjacent depictions of the DCA will massively help round out your application for this zine!
For some positions, you will be asked to give 1-3 idea pitches, with at least one idea pitch being required. Pitches should summarise what you might be thinking of creating for the zine, showcasing your creativity and helping you brainstorm ideas for what to make if selected. Your pitch will be especially useful if you are hoping to write or illustrate any AU content, to give us an idea of what sort of thing you expect to contribute. Your pitch may be on the longer or shorter side depending on what you prefer, just as long as it illustrates the idea(s) you are aiming for. If you are selected, you will not be required to create the idea(s) you mentioned in your pitch, and will be able to change your mind on what you wish to create for the zine at a later point.
For writers:
We are looking for around 5 writers to join this zine. Upon being selected to be contributors, writers will write a short self-contained story (around 1.5-2k words) which will be illustrated by the spot artist they pair up with.
What we’ll be looking for in a writer application is readability (how well the example writing submitted for the application flows and how easy to follow it is), pacing, vividness of characters (characterisation of Sun and Moon in this fandom tends to vary a lot, so we’ll be looking more at consistency and imaginativeness here!), and how engaging the example writing is, as well as the ability to wrap up a short story. For this reason, while excerpts reaching around the 2k mark will be happily accepted, at least one of the examples should be a self-contained story or scene that fits within (or close to!) the word limit listed on the application form!
For page artists:
We are looking for around 23 page artists to contribute to this zine. Once selected as contributors, page artists will create a full page illustration featuring the daycare attendant(s) for the zine. A page illustration should fill the space on the page nicely and play to your strengths. This could be a coloured illustration depicting one or multiple characters with a background, a neat photograph of a sculpture or traditional piece you’ve made, or even a nice neat one-page comic! So long as it fits nicely on the page without compromising its quality, it will likely make a great fit for the zine!
What we will be looking for in a page artist application is composition (how elements in the example pictures submitted for the application like the background, props, characters, etc. work together), atmosphere (how the example pictures build a mood), creativity (unique and quirky representations and ideas!), and the level of polish the example pieces have (so overall how neat and nicely finished they look). At least one example provided will need to have a full background (so something containing complex background elements or designs or scenery, like a room or a scene).
For spot artists:
We are aiming to have around 5 spot artists for this zine. Spot artists will be paired up with writers, illustrating smaller scenes written for the zine. The mood of these pieces might vary greatly, but should match the tone and content of the writing.
What we’ll be looking for in a spot artist application is how well their example pieces convey a particular mood and/or feeling, as well as how well they present a scene in a smaller space. The example pieces submitted might not need to be as detailed or polished as those required by full page artists, but should be just as expressive!
For merch artists:
We will be looking for around 2-3 merch artists for this zine. Merch artists will design merch to go with the zine when it potentially hits certain sales targets. Prior experience making merch is greatly preferred for applicants applying for this role.
What we’ll be looking for in a merch artist application is the ability to make neat, simple designs that translate well as physical and digital merchandise.
Hopefully that clears a few things up - and please don’t be too daunted by all the details or feel you have to play perfectly to all of the ideas given above, every single one of us is different and the most unconventional of application pieces might be just the thing we need! This is just to make the application process a little clearer for anyone who’s nervous about what to submit. If anything is still a little unclear, please feel free to send us an ask on our Tumblr or CuriousCat!

Coming this Halloween...
This fall @nevergonnasimpyoumikey with the generous help of @thenoman-sland are organizing a horror-themed fanzine that will be published on Halloween! We're now looking for authors and artists who are older than 18 and want to create scary/dark/violent/gory/you-name-it works for this zine.
Q&A "Can I do X?" DM @nevergonnasimpyoumikey your idea and we'll discuss it!
"I like this idea but Y triggers me, can I still join?" DM @nevergonnasimpyoumikey and we'll discuss it!
Safety is our priority. We hope that we'll be able to accommodate a lot of people. For example, if several participants don't want to see a certain topic at all, we might ban it from the zine. This all depends on the people joining, so please be willing to communicate about any possible triggers and issues and your ideas!
However, if you're very sensitive to many dark themes (for example if you can't read/watch anything with blood, violence or horror at all), another project might be a better fit for you, just so you can stay safe!
"I'm a minor, can I still join?" At this point, no, sorry. If we don't get enough people working on this idea, we might make changes, though. Follow @gtafest for updates!
"How do I get in?" You're not gonna believe this, but you should DM @nevergonnasimpyoumikey ! We'll make a Discord server for later communication, though, so it'd be preferable if you had a Discord account, too.
Send an ask or a DM if you have any questions or worries, and please reblog this post! Thank you! <3
- the mod, @nevergonnasimpyoumikey

Depictions of heavy topics ARE allowed within reason, but just remember to list them in the provided space on the forms! We are not trying to make an X rated / whump zine, but the game does deal with darker themes. Thank you for your understanding!
Twitter Version HERE
More In-Depth Guidelines and Format Examples Under the Cut
This information is the same as the information found on each form.
THEME OPTION
Does your piece describe past memories, present events, or future hopes and fears? You do not need to strictly adhere to this. These themes are a way to thematically tie everyone's pieces together as well as provide an organization scheme to the zine. This zine is intended to be a scrapbook of memories, after all.
Past relates to things that have happened before the events of the game, memories you or the characters want to preserve or forget. Present relates to events of the game as well as things that happen around those events, the new life that the characters are going into, unexplored territories, and bonds forming and breaking. This is the here and now. Future relates to events that happen way ahead from now. Revolution, for example, or the failure to achieve it. Whatever you may think the characters will be going through in the months and years to come after the main events of the game. Whatever hopes or dreams or fears they may have.
ZINE FORMATTING
The format on the zine will appear as follows:

Stop calling these Fandom Menace YouTubers stupid, when what they really are is manipulative. Yes, there are a lot of chronically online people who say infuriating shit because they genuinely lack media literacy, but if you see someone making a demonstrably false statement, i.e. labelling Amandla Stenberg's calm Instagram video a 'meltdown', it is because they're a manipulator. They know full well that it plays into the angry Black woman trope, and they know exactly what their followers are going to do. This is how gatekeeping works. You have a small, but deeply entitled group of people who believe that Star Wars should be theirs and only theirs, and they intend to keep it that way by trolling people out of the fandom.
For example, I saw someone on Facebook share a screenshot of a 1981 fanzine called Against The Sith, which was edited by fangirls, and it provides clear evidence that women and girls were an active part of the fandom in its early days. However, this completely goes against the Fandom Menace claim that once upon a time, the fandom was a boy's club until Disney made it 'woke'.
What are you supposed to do when you have clear, in-your-face evidence disproving your narrative? You make shit up.
So, this Fandom Menace troll kept leaving a bunch of long comments insisting that the screenshot had to be fake, claiming that the word Sith wasn't around back then, and that woke people were trying to rewrite history. Then, a bunch of people, including OG Star Wars fans, corrected him and said, 'Actually, the word Sith absolutely was around back then because fans were reading the novelisations.' Then the troll replied, 'Well, maybe the reprints of these novelisations had the word Sith in it, but not the originals,' to which the OG fans replied, 'No, I actually have a vintage first edition copy of the novelisation and I am telling you, the word Sith absolutely was around back then and Star Wars fans would've known this.' Every time they corrected this guy, he kept doubling down. Why?
Because the point of fandom gatekeeping isn't to be right; it's to piss people off and waste their time.
You see, these people don't care about making themselves look nice and reasonable to outsiders. They actually like their horrible reputation, because if the Star Wars fandom becomes associated with them, it means newcomers will be hesitant to join, and it also means longtime fans will either leave entirely or stop talking about Star Wars on the internet.
(Obviously, I do think more needs to be done about the Fandom Menace than simply refusing to engage with them, and I could write a separate post on that, but my overall point here is to remind people of the difference between ignorance and malice)
One of the reasons why I felt the need to create a Star Wars blog on here is because it's one of the very few apps where I don't have to block people every single day. I refuse allow these shitheads to tell me that I'm not allowed to be a part of this fandom. If that means moving to a healthier space, then so be it.

In the course of spiralling down an internet rabbit hole today, I found a truly excellent essay about the trials and tribulations of fandom: How To BNF Without Tears, by Walter A. Willis
If you are familiar with the term BNF (Big-Name Fan), you may have heard it in the context of early-aughts fandoms, or some configuration of superwholock. But this article is from 1954!
Please enjoy these excerpts:
Very well, let's consider a day in the life of this wretched Neofan. Brighteyed, the little fellow wakes early, listening for the tread of the postman. His ears are so sensitive to this faint sound that he will leap out of bed, every nerve quivering, when the man is a hundred yards away ….. whereas before he became a fan a whole battery of alarm clocks barely fluttered an eyelid.
It's me, I'm the wretched little fellow refreshing my AO3 inbox, nerves a-quivering
Consider now a day in the life of the BNF. He too is driven from pillow to post, but since he was up to two o'clock in the morning finishing an article he had promised for ten days ago, the postman has to knock twice to waken him. He staggers down the stairs, observing with a sinking feeling that the porch is covered with a layer of various sized envelopes[....]Some of the letters are from his friends, and he puts those in his pocket to be enjoyed later. Some are from self-appointed enemies, and he puts those aside until he feels stronger. The rest are from Neofen. Some of them want subscriptions to his fanzine. Some want information. Some want material for their fanzine. Nearly all of them are rude.
1954 equivalent of "RIP your inbox"
Now, on the way the BNF handles this mail depends whether he shall stay in fandom or retire suffering from chronic disenchantment like so many others[...]So I am going to suggest some rules which you might consider following when you become a BNF. (All that is necessary to become a BNF is to maintain a reasonably energetic standard of fanactivity for approximately two years.)
And then our friend Walter goes on to advise BNFs to "comment on as many first issues [of fanzines] as you can, and always find something to praise," "Always be polite and kind to Neofans," and to take the piss out of yourself: "Humourous attacks on you should be encouraged -- they add to the interest of fandom, rank as egoboo, and might give you something to write about." (Walter also warns on the dangers of attending conventions, and advises that you wear a false beard to maintain anonymity.)
Of course, I had to know: what fandom were these guys in?
So I did a little digging. Walter mentions a "Ken Potter" in his letter. Turns out Ken Potter ran multiple science fiction fanzines through the 1950's and 60's, including Brennschluss, Triumph and Scientifiction.
Tumblr media
A scan of Brenschluss, containing such gems as "tho I did once kiss a girl" and "Isn't Fandom romantic!"
Additional glossary for some terms used in Walter's essay:
"Egoboo": A colloquial expression for the pleasure received from public recognition of voluntary work. Originated in science fiction fandom as early as 1947
"Hectoed" fanzine: A method of copying text and illustrations that fell out of fashion after the 1940's. It involves involves making a bed of gelatin, transferring a special carbon ink to the gelatin and then laying on and picking up pieces of paper.
"Faned": Slang for "fan editor," aka the editor of a fandom publication, usually a zine.

A reminder...
Zines and fanzines have always been a form of expression. They are about community and a celebration of what fans enjoy, to lift each other up and bond over a shared love of the fandom. This is a gentle reminder that no one controls the fandom zine sphere. If you have an idea and you want to share it with the fandom, you can do just that.
There is no calling "dibs" on a topic. If two people have the same idea then that just means that there are now more zines for people to enjoy & support. There is no competition and nor should there be, as zines are for charity and created with the spirit of giving back.
Yes, some zines will get more support than others. Yes, some zines are more popular in topic. Yes, some zines don't even get enough funding to allow for physical books to be printed. But they are still made.
They were still planned out and put together by a volunteer group of friends and strangers, who worked together with a common goal - to share their passion with the fandom.
There is no such thing as exclusivity in the zine community. No one has the right to say you can't create a zine on a topic because it was already done, or because someone wanted to do it first. There is room for all ideas and many of the same. It can be surprising if someone else announces the creation of a zine centered around a topic you wanted to work on yourself, but that is not a reason to tell them to stop, or to give up your plans either. Communicate. Support each other. There are many ways to work with such situations - timelines and schedules can be changed or join forces to make the zine together. In no instance is bullying an option or solution. Cooperation and coordination are much easier and simpler options, because fan projects thrive on the support and encouragement of the fandom. We are all here to celebrate and expand the worlds we have chosen to devote ourselves to with enthusiasm and passion.

Aziraphale cannot find his voice, so he merely nods and presses the back of his heels to Crowley’s ass. “What should I call you?” “Oh well, you may call me alpha,” Crowley says with a smirk and Aziraphale moans when clever fingers grab the plug and pull it out just a little. “And what about you? Do you prefer me to call you angel,” Crowley says, eyes staring down between Aziraphale’s legs, presumably watching slick trickle all over the duvet. He feels his face burn at the thought, but that only makes him gush more. “Or are you my needy, little omega-” Crowley pulls out the plug completely at those words and Aziraphale is grateful he’s already lying down. He moans and uses his elbows to raise his body so he can get a little closer. “Omega, your omega, I need-” he begs, his heat taking control of his body at last. “Alpha, please.” “Oh sweetheart, you are perfect,” Crowley coos. “I cannot decide where to start, I mean, look at you-” And Aziraphale does. The position is a bit tricky and he does wonder if he will get a crick in his neck the following day, but what matters is watching as Crowley explores his body, golden eyes and lean fingers mapping each layer of soft flesh.

Long hair I wouldn't mind, 'cos I've been through that; crazy fashions I wouldn't mind, 'cos I've been through that;’ And yet whan my kid started going punk, I suddenly realised what my parents had thought about me.
Which is like 'Is this gonna mean she'll get onto glue or something that I'll sit up worrying about?
If I give her total freedom, and say 'Yeah! Go with all the fashions!' is that gonna mean I'm pushing her onto heroin?' And then I suddenly realised: 'Oh God! I thought I'd never do this!' I always swore that I was going to let them do whatever they wanted to, but in the end I found myself realizing ‘So this is how my parents felt?’
Because one thing parents are, all the time, is worried. You can't help it but it does mean you care.”

It reminded me of his worried dad song Waterfalls
Don't go jumping waterfalls
Please, keep to the lake
People who jump waterfalls
Sometimes can make mistakes
And I need love
Yeah, I need love
Like a second needs an hour
Like a raindrop needs a shower
Yeah, I need love
Every minute of the day
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away
And I need love
Yeah, I need love
Like a castle needs a tower
Like a garden needs a flower
Yeah, I need love
Every minute of the day
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away
Don't go chasing polar bears
In the great unknown
Some big friendly polar bear
Might want to take you home
And I need love
Yeah, I need love
Like a second needs an hour
Like a raindrop needs a shower
Yeah, I need love
Every minute of the day
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away
Don't run after motor cars
Please, stay on the side
Someone's glossy motor car
Might take you for a ride
And I need love
Yeah, I need love
Like a castle needs a tower
Like a garden needs a flower
Yeah, I need love
Said I need love
Every minute of the day
And it wouldn't be the same
If you ever should decide to go away
Don't go jumping waterfalls
Please, keep to the lake

Zine Schedule!
Tumblr media
Happy Spring to our friends in the Northern Hemisphere and Happy Autumn to our buddies in the Southern Hemisphere! With this change of seasons, we thought it would be a great time to post our schedule!
Our schedule can, of course, be found on our carrd, and if you're interested in specific dates (like how contributor applications open April 1) you should check the schedule out over there, but it's also kind of fun to post the general schedule here too. ;)
As with many projects of this scope, this schedule is subject to change, but you can get the general idea!
-FEBRUARY-MAY- (right now!) APPLICATIONS PERIOD ------------------------------------------ Our interest check, mod applications, and then contributor applications happen! Because this is quite an old fandom and not everyone is actively following it, there may be more 'Guests' than a 'normal' fanzine.
----------------------------------------- -MAY- SEPTEMBER- CREATION PERIOD ------------------------------------------ Contributors make their wonderful pieces for you all! They are not allowed to share their pieces until after the zine ships out but the moderators may post some behind-the-scenes content for you all with the contributors' permission!
More of the schedule under the cut!
---------------------------------------- SEPT-NOV: Formatting and Pre-Order Period ------------------------------------------ The zine is formatted for digital distribution and physical printing. Contributors check they are happy with their pages and any information given.
------------------------------------------ -NOVEMBER-DECEMBER- Manufacturing Period ------------------------------------------
This is when we get samples from the manufacturers and check their quality and how well our colours printed! We want to make sure you get the best zine possible.
------------------------------------------ -LATE JANUARY- Shipping Period ------------------------------------------
The shipping date may change due to manufacturing issues, shipping delays, and more. We will keep everyone updated via social media.
------------------------------------------ -LATE JANUARY-ONWARD- Enjoyment Period ------------------------------------------
It's all over! Now's the time to sit back, relax, and enjoy your zine, the merch, and the memories!
We are so glad you are going on this journey with us to visit beautiful Gravity Falls and check in on our beloved Pines family! As always, stay tuned for more questions and answers, announcements, and other little tidbits!
Enjoy the Equinox!
