Best Character surnamed: Mei
Come and vote for the best characters with the same surname!*
What does best mean? It's up to you! Whether you love them, are intrigued by their characters, love to hate them, or they're your '2 second blorbos whose personality you made up wholesale', these are all reasons for you to vote for your favs!
*note, the surnames are not exactly the same in all the cases, as often there will be a different character. I am, however, grouping them all together otherwise things got more complicated.
Propaganda is very welcome! If I’ve forgot anyone, let me know in the notes.

These lives will it be ours?
by BTSap1306
Modern au- university (I suck at writing summaries)
Chu Wanning is a university student aiming to finish his doctorate degree, another two years is all he needs. He works at a little coffee shop owned by a friend. Sometimes, he sleepovers after a late afternoon research class and wakes up to a morning walk to the university.
Mo Ran, a first year architect student, who weirdly loves collecting flowers. He has another three years for the course he takes and temporarily stays in the nearby dorms of the university. He has a habit of waking up early and prefers waiting for a bus at the bus stand. Even though the university is a fifteen minute walk from his dorm. He sometimes grabs coffee from a little coffee shop nearby and skips his way to his designated space.
One day, Chu Wanning meets a first year. There's a sort of pull but Chu Wanning also experiences an intense grief while the first year feels an unexplained ache in his chest. after that incident, they both seem to have weirdly vivid dreams of an emperor, a disciple, a teacher and is that... a lover?

I'm new in the fandom so I don't know for sure yet, but I haven't see nothing about this ship, and got me worry, I can't possibly be the only one who ships Xue Meng and Mei Hanxue(the younger), right??
I mean their interaction are pure gold. The way MH is obsessed in teasing XM, because he likes how interesting he's angry, at the same time he wants make him smile and laugh and be happy, and he and his brother has always been there for him. Like XM had never been truly alone because of this. In TWO damm lives. I know there's the whole gratitude thing, but the both brothers are grateful and wants to protects XM, yet the way their interact with XM is different, not just due their personalities I think. MH(younger) wants not just protects him, but make him happy, smile and laugh and tease him. Honestly I can't with them. I hope this is a ship somehow popular cause I would love to see many fan arts and fic of them haha

Hi! Hopefully you haven't been asked this before and I missed it. If so, apologies. But I wonder if you have extended thoughts on the ending of 2ha? [SPOILERS] My partner and I thought it felt rushed, like the falling action after the climax was super short. There wasn't enough reassurance and peaceful affirmation after seeing so much death, especially MoRan 2.0's. We wanted to enjoy the HEA (and kind of expected the consensual sex scenes to outnumber the dubcon/rape). And then the last chapter was so, so bleak. It might have been a translation issue, but the narration seemed to suggest that nothing that happened mattered. The systems that created the Butterfly Beauty's slavery are still in place; the characters will die and their stories will be forgotten. Chu Wanning and MoRan don't get to reunite with their loved ones, Chu Zun is *still* waiting for his wife & son, and Xue Meng is "left behind," though it's a little more hopeful since he can form new relationships with the Mei Hanxue's and Jiang Xi. [/END SPOILER] Thank you for reading, and again, would love your thoughts! :D
Warning: 2HA SPOILERS!
So I will say that I definitely didn't have this reaction, per se, to the ending. I did, to be fair, finish the book rather late at night so my memory of the last chapter is slightly fuzzy.
Definitely endings are tricky. Especially in such a long book. I don't think that any book is ever going to give you a conclusion that has as much happy/settled time as the time of struggle. That's just not in the narrative structure of a novel. Which means sometimes, yes, we don't get a lot of time to see our characters actually happy.
Personally, one thing I would have liked would be to see more of Chu Wanning and MoRan and TXJ in the extras. I could have done with a little more quiet domesticity from them. More negotiation of how they work out the remaining issues they have. But I have to settle for fanfic for that, and I don't think that's a bad thing. Meatbun gave us enough to indicate the shape of their lives, indication that they FIND happiness and contentment, even if we don't see all the details on the page.
For me, the climax of the novel is in the last scene before the rift is closed, before TXJ's death. The climax is in CWN giving TXJ his unconditional love and saying he has no regrets. It's the forgiveness of TXJ's crimes by the victim of those crimes, the triumph of unconditional love. As well as the self-sacrifice of TXJ for the rest of the world.
After that is just the confirmation that Mo Ran gets to come back to life and they get to be together.
The final chapter is a bit of a sad epilogue, or at least a wistful one, but I think it's one that appeals to me in a way that I might not have appreciated when I was younger. Because, yeah, bad things have still happened, people have been lost, and those who were left behind, who survived are still grieving. Xue Meng lost his parents and he's struggling with becoming a sect leader, but you get the sense that he IS learning. That he will eventually be good at it. And that he will eventually (especially with the extras) have a relationship with Mo Ran and CWN again.
But it's the still leaving room for grieving that I feel I appreciate more as a middle-aged person than I would have when I was young. Because I've lost a parent. I've lost friends (both to death and to just the separations of life.) I've very nearly lost the love of my life and partner. So I appreciate the realism of not everything being fixed. Of there still being loss. Of characters having to go on and learn to live with their grief. Especially after such a dark and painful story, that feels right to me.
And also, in terms of all the flaws of the world not being fixed...no, they aren't. There are still very unfair systems in place. Inequality still exists. Injustice still happens. BUT there are indications that things are a little better. The big bads have been defeated. The most deceptive sects have been taken down, and it's indicated that there isn't a divide between the upper and lower cultivation sects anymore. And that Sisheng Peak is going to eventually be the predominant sect, along with its philosophy of helping the less fortunate out of duty.
So those are small changes, but they're still positive ones. And honestly, that's as much as I feel any human can ask for. It's very realistic to me. That you strive with all your might and at the end of your effort things have just changed SLIGHTLY for the better. Or maybe things are just as bad as they were but you prevented them from getting worse. That's...that's the kind of thing that happens in the real world. It's not...as satisfying as we might want. It's not an escapist fantasy of fixing the world. But what our heroes get is the person they love, time and space to be together, and slight progress in the right direction. They get not having made things worse. Triumph over their own worst potential (in Mo Ran's case.)
And honestly, a quiet place to be happy with the person you love and value the most in the world is about as much as any of us can ask as a happy ending. I know it's certainly MY happy ending. (She says, from her small home in the woods that she shares with her husband and their 4 cats, isolated from any family and a good distance from most friends.)
It's a theme you see a LOT in danmei, I think. That one person is enough. That finding small personal happiness is enough. That the systems of the world go on and you can't make big changes but maybe you change small things for the people closest to you and that's enough.
And I wonder, if that's a cultural thing. If the resonance of that message is greater in a Chinese context. And if Americans (in particular) are more inclined to expect "We Changed The World" happy endings. Because that's our own national myth. The world was wrong before us and We Made It Better by inventing democracy and saving the world from despots, etc. (Which myth continues into the present in the form of every war we get involved in.)
And sometimes those endings are awesome. The power fantasies of saving everyone and everyone getting a happy ending and ending the reign of the evil and ushering in the age of Goodness and Light. But we also need the bittersweet endings. "The world was saved but not for me." Or we won the battle but the war continues. Or "I've done what I can the rest is up to others." Those are the endings that teach us how to keep going in real life, I think.

The rage he felt at being forced into women's clothes to stew in Yanluo Hall for an entire night was justified, but the persecution his brother would suffer at the hands of "Shao Zhu" made it even more severe, because according to the arrangements of Yanluo Hall's guards, today his brother had to go out to the library to wipe down the books.
When Mei HanXue was forced into that blue and silver female disciple's uniform, Mei Hanxue thought he might go crazy.
At that time, the younger brother truly felt that "if that Shao Zhu ever lands in his hands, he'd kill him himself."
When the older brother heard the whole story, he made a small deletion for his younger brother, and removed the "if".
I'm having so much fun. HAHAHAHA.

Xue Meng and Mei Hanxue (either the younger or both^^) for the ship ask ^^
I can’t have a full, honest opinion on this, because at this point the story didn’t even officially explain that there are two Mei Hanxue-s, I just picked that info from the fandom.
But based on my feelings for Xue Meng right now I predict it’s gonna be one of those ‘it’s sure there’ and ‘it’s okay I guess’ ships.

[2HA] meimeng x a hug after not seeing someone for a long time
physical affection prompts
It had been too long. Way too long.
Sect Leader Xue wouldn’t consider himself a clingy person but could it be even called clingy when it had been so long since he’d last seen them. He didn’t think so. But even if he didn’t think so, what if other people did think so? He would never live through the embarrassment if he were to be labeled as a clingy person.
As he was trying and failing to calm his thundering heart and raging mind, the two familiar figures slowly approached the main gates of Sisheng Peak. They were way too slow. But instead of taking into consideration the exhausting journey the twins had behind themselves, Xue Meng had already lost his patience and marched down the stairs with light and quick steps.
Hearing him drawing closer and closer, the two men raised their blonde heads and widened their teal eyes just in time to see the little phoenix flew into their arms. Struggling to keep their balance and not fall down from the quite long stairs before Sisheng Peak’s entrance, the twins let Xue Meng cling onto them and they pulled him closer as well, grinning at his hot blooded enthusiasm.
“What a pleasant surprise. Did Sect Leader Xue miss us?” the younger Mei Hanxue teased, pressing a light kiss on the sect leader’s cheek.
Xue Meng was both embarrassed by his words and smitten by the kiss, so in the end, all he could do was stutter, “M-m-maybe I did... what of it?”
“Nothing, we missed you too,” said the older Mei Hanxue with a smile and pulled Xue Meng closer into his arms when he attempted to pull away and escape.

I read somewhere that Meatbun's 3rd novel will be set in a modern world. The shou is A 30+ y. o neuroseurgeon, and the other partner is a younger gong The age is really vague. It says that he'e seventeen but I really don't think so, I might be wrong. Rumor has it that it is a Jiangxi and Mei Hanxue (didi) AU. 😂
This is awesome but oh, the dilemma, the dilemma!
I don’t do modern novels AT ALL (or even modern cdramas, 99% of the time) but it’s Meatbun so if there is anyone who could make me read this, it’s her.
I am fine with whatever ages/set up/anything tbh because after 2ha and Yuwu I trust her implicitly to pull ANYTHING off.
(But how can she possibly have her usual level of angst in a modern setting?!)

I'm stuck in my own, personal danmei hell atm. But I gotta say, it's really cosy in here, I think I'm gonna stay for a while <3
My obsession is growing. The amount of fanarts I collected in the last month is just crazy and now I entered next lvl = creating what I can't find on the internets. And wow, do I have plans...
My current obsessions are 2ha, heavens official blessing, mdzs and scumvillan (in that order) and I'm kinda excited for what I'm planning to do. Hopefully I won't abandon anything this time.
I don't usually post wips but this one just I have to. I know myself, if I won't admit that I'm working on something it's like it never happened = it's abandonable. So this serves as an insurance.
Btw. there is way too little meimeng fanarts ;3; I need more! World needs more!
Also, I always have a feeling that older Mei Hanxue is kinda jealous of the younger one xD
