One issue I personally have with WOF that I don't see brought up often is the tonal inconsistencies. It's especially noticeable in TFoH for me. Freedom felt like a tonal mess because one second she'd be explaining how she had been trapped with her tormentor for five thousand years and the next she'd be making some qUiRkY quip or joke. Idk, just something I noticed

Yeah it's really quite annoying. In the ladder half of arc 3 I feel it's most apparent. One chapter it'll be a baby babbling to themselves or CAPS LOCK SCREAMING and the next it'll be "I have been in unimaginable amounts of pain and suffering and there is no way for me to escape" before then going instantly back to something else.

Freedom is such a messy character in of itself. You can't introduce a character like her halfway through the last book, spend most of her screentime having her yell at Luna and Dusky, then suddenly make her character do a 180 after seeing Gay People and want to be good now. Yeah yeah "oh it's so sad that she gave herself up for the greater good" and all but like...she's not a great character.

I think it's mostly because it seems like Tui is really burnt out on WoF. Like she gets bored constantly and tries to add in jokes or hold down a single key for a bit longer than she should. It really is quite jarring when it's all silly and wacky before then instantly being hit against with a character calling somebody a "bozo".

just saw a snippet from a newspaper while sitting in the subway to uni and apparently one of germany's high ranking ministers - a member of the 'progressive' Green party that ran on a platform of anti-homophobia, anti-racism etc. - just said that he'll make sure that any immigrant that takes part in a pro-palestine demonstration can be forced to move back to the country they emigrated from, supposedly on a charge of antisemitism, simply for attending a demonstration against genocide. (note that it said 'immigrants' not even just 'refugees' but immigrants that have lived here for years or decades)

if it was really about stopping antisemitism in germany then how come they are only targetting these demonstrations and never *never* have put in the same effort condemning and prohibiting demonstrations by real actual neo nazis, which there are plenty of here and which always are protected by official police squads under the banner of 'freedom of speech'? it is so transparent that they don't actually care about antisemitism - if they did (and they should!) they would have prohibited white supremacist marches years ago, yet those guys can have weekly gatherings in the thousands and even get seats in parliament.

his statement also comes at a time when the -again, supposedly 'progressive' - government generally stated they want to make it easier to force refugees back to the countries they fled from and want to mark multiple countries with especially high refugee counts as 'safe origin countries' meaning they wouldn't have to take in refugees from there at all.

but it sure is good that the government is 'progressive' that clearly makes a positive difference for minorities rn

i ended up having a like. 30 minute conversation with some of those "freedom convoy" people. was at the bus stop. they were wearing trump hats. i ended up roped into the conversation because i was so taken aback at seeing one in public i was just. staring at it. ive never felt more depressed about someone elses life and beliefs than when i talked to them.

The cup stops just before it touches Levi’s lips and he looks at Armin from over the brim. 

It doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. They’re all good kids, they always have been, and Armin especially has always been one of the most thoughtful of them all. While the others have taken their high praise and began to celebrate in the festivities, of course, it would be their young commander that’s stayed behind with him and his fancy new chair. Choosing rather to observe the joyful scenery and drink something sweet from a glass than partake in the same dances and games that they’ve already lost the others to. 

But he did think it was a little odd that Armin hadn’t gone to join them yet…

A soft breath passes through Levi’s nose before he turns down his gaze and takes a sip of his drink. It’s cold. Refreshing, like the sun on his shoulders, and the sounds of the kids as they run around behind him with laughter in their lungs — their screams of excitement, such a blessed headache and that is plenty good enough for him.

He places down his cup before reaching across to give Armin’s shoulder a firm pat and a gentle squeeze, just so knows he’s appreciated, even if he doesn’t really know what to say to that. 

Except, maybe, “It’s not as though that doesn’t go both ways.”

“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for all you kids, either.” Levi settles back in his chair and picks up his drink again as he tells him, “So if that’s all,” with a softened edge in his eyes, “You should go and enjoy yourself, Commander. I’d say you’ve earned it.”
