I really like Zachtronics games, which is a problem because I'm also stupid.

gameplay >>>> graphics

this is why i end up buying a lot more indie games than aaa games

just shapes and beats gameplay: absolute bullet hell, memorize every pattern, interlaced hardcore s rank just shapes and beats graphics: pink

the flat desgins are cool but not ray-tracing level, but it's still a fun game

factorio gameplay: modular factories, make bus, nuclear warfare, manage space, go space, literally become a fucking software engineer

this is my favourite game

and then there's teardown, which is just a feat of engineering. it has beautiful graphics, but that doesnt take away from the gameplay and experimentation. one guy made an entire ray tracer, physics engine, destruction simulation, and procedural effects. its an absolutely awe-inspiring game that deserves attention.

and dont even get me started on zachtronics

I'm in the process of making custom web pages to archive my solutions for Zachtronics' programming puzzle games.

Just published the first one: 20th Century Food Court! Click the link to check it out :3 (It's designed for monitors 720p and up, but it works decently on any screen wider than 800px. I made it work on mobile, but it's a huge compromise, so maybe try landscape mode if you're on a phone?)

I can feel myself get too tired to continue working on this, so I'll push it out before I get too tired and drop it instead ^^; There might be some jank? Please let me know of any bugs and I'll try to fix em.

Spoilers for 20th Century Food Court!!! Don't look too carefully if you want to experience the game yourself!!! I strongly encourage you to go get Last Call BBS in whatever platform you can; it's super fun and the experience is much better if you figure things out yourself without letting other people's solutions influence you!

The thing I often get with zachtronics and other programming puzzle games is that even if my solution to any given puzzle ends up being pretty average according to the histograms I still get that incredible rush of 'HOLY SHIT I AM A GENIUS' chemicals in my brain in the end.

Does anyone else get that or is it just me?

Cuz you gotta understand, the histograms have a selection bias for players who have both attempted to complete the level and were able to find a solution which is far, FAR from 100% of all players. So when the crowd you're in is already skews towards being above average, being just average within said crowd still means you're pretty damn smart all things considered

im playing exapunks and Im having a worrying amount of fun telling these little robots to kill themselves. like its writing code. I tell this robot to "halt" and he explodes and there nothing he can do about it. He knows his life serves a better purpose. I think he salutes before he dies. godspeed and farewell you cute robotic soldier

btw, zachtronics is genius for making a game about hacking where A - you actually code and

B - you control little robots who actually run around and pick up files and talk to eachother and kill themselves at your command
