My husband texted me the other day:

Hubby: Can I go to the next @taylorswift concert with you? I love the songs she’s released so far.

Me: no.

Hubby: why not?

Me: At her show I have zero chill. Zero emotional energy to spend on you, it all goes to Tay, I have to be 100000% focused at all times, I cannot be focused on you at all.

Also, we can’t afford it 😂

There are a lot of things I really enjoy doing with my son. Going on walks, just the two of us. Building epic marble runs. Setting up dominoes for him to knock down. Trampolining. One thing I really, REALLY do not enjoy is playing football. It's ok when it's a class, but at home, it's the worst. Jon plays football with him most days, and it's a lovely bonding experience for them. Jon obviously has significantly more chill than me... I feel like I'm under attack!! This boy can KICK! You can barely even see the ball in this photo, it's going so fast! My reflexes are reasonable, and I manage to deflect the ball from my face most of the time, but I hate it! So this one time, I went to see @taylorswift for the first time and one of my friends thought to record me as she came on stage. There is a 100% chance I literally vibrated for at least 2 hours before the show. I also very narrowly avoided having a panic attack from the excitement (thank you deep breathing). It was a magical night that I will never forget.

I did not think I would get to see her this time around as I have a small child now (9 months old as I write this) and would have had to buy a ticket for him and the concert starts at his bedtime and that just sounds miserable for both of us. At the time when tickets went on sale I also didn’t anticipate having childcare and he wasn’t yet sleeping through the night. He is also still breastfeeding so it would be a bit much for me to be away for a full 2 days which I would be because the closest show to me is in Seattle (a 5 hour drive). I was totally resigned to this and decided I will catch her again next time and probably bring my son for his first concert. Then, in March, my mom was here for a visit to help me after a minor surgery and we got to chatting one day about why I wasn’t going this time. I realized that our situation has changed and now I have childcare, and he sleeps through the night which means that if I left the day before and drove back first thing in the morning he would only need a small amount of breastmilk which I could definitely pump, and my hubby could take him to daycare and I would be there in time to pick him up. I decided to see if there were even any tickets left and how much they were. They were reasonably priced (for higher seats) and I started to get a bit excited. My mom suggested that maybe my hubby would buy one for me for Mother’s Day and I was like “Nah, he wouldn’t do that, he’s so not a fan”. So she decided to buy me a ticket…. and pay for a hotel… and come with me to watch the baby while I go see Taylor slay the Reputation Stadium Tour.

I have my outfit ready to go and can barely contain my excitement at the fact that I see her again in 15 more days!!! I don’t even care that I am going by myself, I’m going to have the BEST TIME EVER!!
