rotations. bonus! (y/n) is pregnant
can i request zuko learning that his wife is pregnant? (like after the honeymoon stage) and how would he react on the following 9 months?
Marvellous Masterpiece of series you had us read! Thank you for everything! I wanted to ask if is not too much to ask (if you want to of course... it is just a suggestion😰😂) if you can write another bonus with y/n realises she is pregnant and sees how they are with their children. The book change my perspective completely about Zuko. I love Zuko, but now... I am in love. Thank you and have a nice day! Stay safe!
I'm so sad that rotations is over!!! 😭 I'm definitely gonna reread it again! It was so good! You're such a talented writer! Thank you so much for creating such a great story ❤❤ On a side note, what about a blurb where Zuko and y/n find out they're having a baby ! 😱 I could only imagine Zuko freaking out about it 😂
as u can see....this was widely requested. thank u to everyone who did!! :)
(Y/N) inhaled the sharp ocean breeze as she stepped off the boat. It had been years since she had been back to Ember Island. The last time she had set foot on its shores, she was sixteen and plotting to save the world from a tyrannical monster. Now, she was twenty-four, happily married, and queen of the very nation she had been fighting against. Interesting, how life worked.
Zuko was already waiting for her at the end of the dock. He had left the palace a few days early to make sure the house was properly cleaned of any dirt, dust, and unhappy memory. (Y/N) ran into his arms and he lifted her up, spinning her in a circle before setting her gently back on her feet.
“I missed you!” She exclaimed, before planting a kiss on his lips. Zuko smiled into it before pulling away.
“I missed you too. How was your trip?” (Y/N) shrugged.
“I only threw up twice! That’s got to be a new record, I think.” Zuko chuckled as he took his wife’s hand and led her up to the beach house.
“I think you’re going to like how the house looks,” He said. “I even included a little surprise for you.”
“A surprise!” She gasped. “I love surprises. Is it a turtle duck pond? I think everywhere we go should have a turtle duck pond.”
“Something even better than a turtle duck pond.” (Y/N) scoffed as they walked up the rocky steps to the backyard of the beach house.
“There’s no such thing.” As she turned to face forward, her eyes widened at the sight of all of her friends: Katara, Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Suki all stood before her, big smiles on their faces as they shouted:
“Surprise!”
(Y/N) immediately left Zuko in the dust, running toward her friends and enveloping them in tight hugs. She hugged Toph first, then Suki, Sokka, Aang, and saved her hug for Katara for last. They held onto each other tightly, rocking back and forth as (Y/N) cried into her shoulder.
“Are you alright?” Katara laughed as they pulled away. (Y/N) nodded as she quickly wiped away her tears. It had been months since she had seen any of her friends, and it had been nearly years since they were all in the same place at the exact same time. To see everyone together made her more than emotional.
“I’m sorry, I’m just really surprised and really happy! What are you all doing here?”
“Zuko asked us all to take a well-deserved vacation,” Toph said, cracking her knuckles.
“You’ve been working hard at the palace,” Zuko said as he came up behind her. “I wanted to show you how much I appreciate you.”
“Aw, who knew Zuko had a heart,” Sokka joked.
“Uh, I kind of called it the whole time,” (Y/N) laughed. She clasped her hands together. “Food! We need food and drinks and--”
“And everything will be taken care of by the servants,” Zuko said, rubbing his hands into her shoulders. “All we have to do it relax.”
They spent the remainder of the day at the beach, swimming and building sand castles like they had when they were young. (Y/N) had lounged on the beach beside Suki and turned her head to speak to the Kyoshi Warrior. “You know what I’m really craving? Sea prunes. They sound so good right now.”
Sokka heard her statement and looked at her quizzically. “You hate sea prunes. Like, with a passion.” (Y/N) shrugged.
“Maybe I’m changing as a person.”
(Y/N) had requested of their servants that their dinner be a feast. She loaded food on to her plate and went back for seconds and thirds. She even saved room for fruit tarts for dessert. Zuko had to practically carry her upstairs to their bedroom because she was so full.
The next morning, (Y/N) eyes flew open and she immediately ran to the bathroom. She slammed the door shut and hunched over the toilet, unfortunately throwing up all the delicious food she had eaten the night before. Although Zuko had been asleep, he was now on high-alert and knocked on the bathroom door.
“(Y/N)? Would you let me in?”
She coughed and shook her head weakly, even though he couldn’t see her. “No, it’s gross in here.”
“You act like I would care. Let me in, please.” Slowly, she unlocked the door and Zuko flew in, kneeling at her side and pulling her into his chest. “Are you feeling alright?”
(Y/N) nodded. “It was probably the sea prunes. I ate so many.” Zuko chuckled.
“Can I ask Katara to come in and check on you?” (Y/N) nodded again and Zuko propped her gently up against the bathroom wall. Within minutes, Katara was kneeling down to check her for any illness.
“Good morning,” (Y/N) said sarcastically. Katara laughed.
“It’s strange for you to get sick like this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you sick.”
“It’s because I have the blood of champions,” (Y/N) said nonchalantly. “I’m really feeling fine, Zuko’s just a worrier.”
Katara stared at (Y/N) for a moment, her brows furrowed, before leaving the bathroom completely. (Y/N) sat on the floor, confused. While Katara was dependable and motherly, there were definitely times when she did things out of the ordinary. When she returned to the bathroom with Toph, (Y/N) thought that was definitely strange.
“No offense, but why is Toph here?”
“Your guess is as good as mine, Fire Feet.” Katara leaned in and whispered something inaudible in Toph’s here. The earthbender’s eyes widened before an excited smile appeared on her face. She stepped closer to (Y/N) until their toes were touching.
“(Y/N), could you tell me why I can feel two heartbeats inside of you?” (Y/N) squinted her eyes in confusion.
“Toph, what are you talking about?” She looked up at Katara, who bit her lip to hide her smile. Suddenly, it clicked. “No way. You’re lying! Absolutely not.”
“I don’t lie!” Toph exclaimed. “Well, not like I used to. But this time I am 100 percent telling the truth.”
“It all makes sense!” Katara said. “Your weird cravings, your larger than normal appetite, your emotions, even throwing up this morning! You’re pregnant!”
(Y/N’s) head felt a bit woozy. “I might need to sit down,” she said.
“You’re already sitting.” Toph and Katara sat on the ground beside her. (Y/N) smiled at her friends.
“I’m really pregnant?”
“Really,” Toph confirmed. (Y/N) felt her eyes fill with tears of happiness. Her entire life, she had always wanted a child, and to think that she might have a little her or a little Zuko in the future made her heart swell with joy.
“I have to tell Zuko,” She said. “Oh no, Zuko! He and I haven’t even talked about having kids yet. What if he-”
“Don’t even finish that sentence,” Katara said as she helped up a hand. “Zuko absolutely adores you. I can’t imagine that he’ll be anything other than excited.”
“He loves you more than you loved those sea prunes last night,” Toph said. (Y/N) put her face in her hands and rubbed at her cheeks.
“Okay, I’m going to tell him.” She got to her feet and her friends followed her out of the bathroom.
“What are you going to say?” Katara asked as they walked down the hall. (Y/N) shrugged.
“I’m probably going to just wing it. It hasn’t failed me yet.”
“I feel like I can name a few times-” Toph began, but Katara hushed her.
(Y/N) walked out into the courtyard where the rest of their friends had gathered. The early morning sun was hot that day, so the servants had prepared watermelon juice and other cold items to keep their friends cool. Being from the Fire Nation, (Y/N) and Zuko had no problem with the heat.
Zuko’s face lit up as he saw her exit the house. “Hey! How are you-” She grabbed him by the hand and pulled him toward the beach, stopping on a cool portion of sand. The waves lapped at their feet as (Y/N) turned to face him. She inhaled a deep breath as Zuko stared at her, obviously confused by the morning’s events.
“I’m pregnant.” The expressions on Zuko’s face went from worry, to confusion, to shock, and (Y/N) could feel the nervousness creeping up within her, but she shoved it down. “Toph confirmed it. She said she could feel two heartbeats and Katara said that explained why I had been acting so weird. And I know we haven’t talked about it, and I don’t know if we’re ready, but--”
Zuko covered her mouth with his hand to get her to stop talking. “We’re having a baby?”
(Y/N) felt her eyes well with tears. She had known happiness before, but being here with Zuko and seeing the excitement on his face as he said “We” made her heart explode. She nodded quickly and Zuko pulled her into himself, burying his face into her neck.
“We’re going to have a family,” He whispered, and she could feel his tears dripping onto her neck. Both of them had had less than great families. Knowing that they were making one of their own with their love of their life made them both emotional.
“I’m going to be an uncle!” Sokka exclaimed, pumping his fist into the air. Zuko and (Y/N) looked up to find all of their friends sitting at the top of the steps, eavesdropping on their conversation. “Can I be the godfather?” Sokka asked. Katara snorted.
“You can barely take care of yourself! How are you going to take care of a baby?”
“Simple,” Sokka said. “I’ll just strap it onto my back when I go into battle.”
“Do you think it’ll like to go windsurfing?” Aang asked.
“Maybe it can visit Kyoshi Island and ride the giant koi!” Suki exclaimed.
“I just hope it doesn’t cry as much as Twinkle Toes.” Toph muttered.
(Y/N) looked up at Zuko, who beamed down at her. They had their own little family, with their friends, and they knew that their baby would be loved so much.

-IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS DONT HESITATE TO ASK-
The sun had set on your way back to the palace. You couldn’t really remember when you’d fallen asleep, you tried to stay awake as long as you could but you’d spent the night before awake worrying about what would happen the next day. The weather became more forgiving as the night sky glimmered above you, you’d dare to say it even got a little chilly. What woke you up was a set of slender and calloused fingers putting strands of hair that had fallen to your face back into their place. Before opening your eyes you heard Zuko’s soft voice. “Hey... we’re almost at the palace.”
You finally opened your eyes and were shocked to see where you had fallen asleep. “Zuko...” you muttered in a raspy and still a little sleepy voice “why am I using you as my pillow?”
The Fire lord chuckled softly and you could closely hear the vibrations that sent through his chest as you were slightly laying on it. A faint blush ran through your cheeks as it had done many times that days.
“You fell asleep and then started chattering your teeth. It was pretty annoying honestly, so I sat over here to help warm you up.” Zuko explained as his fingers kept playing with your hair. His arm was around you and you were pretty much leaning on him fully. It was just then you realized how warm he was, one of the benefits of being a fire bender you guessed.
You faintly smiled looking back down and before you could say anything else the carriage stopped. The small door opened to show you the front view of the castle and that helped clear your memory. Aang and the others were here, that’s why you came back. You jumped out of Zuko’s grasp and out of the carriage to start walking fast to the entrance. As soon as the big doors opened you saw Katara’s face smiling expectantly. You didn’t wait more than a second to run into her arms and squeeze her into yours. Her laugh filled the room as the two of you almost fell from how hard you’d ran into her.
“Y/N, I’m loving this but I kinda can’t breathe” she muttered in a muffled voice.
You laughed and let go of her taking a look around you for the first time. The next one to receive your unforgiving hug was Sokka. You wrapped your arms around his neck and made him stumble a couple steps back before he wrapped his arms around your waist. “Someone’s happy to see us.” He expressed as he tightened the hug before letting go.
“Are you kidding? It’s felt like forever since I last saw you, and it’s actually been forever since we’ve all been here together.” You turned more to your left to give Suki her hug, feeling how she was the strongest and most stable one of the three. She was a strong hugger too so it was you this time who had to let go.
Finally you walked up to Aang being a little more forgiving with him, as you’d always felt like if you hugged him to tight he might break. When you were done you looked at all of them in surprise, barely even hearing Zuko’s steps behind you. “What are you guys doing here?” You asked
It was Katara who spoke first. “Well it’s almost been a year since the war ended” she turned to look to Zuko this time as he was greeting Aang and moving on to her. “Your uncle was the one to call us here, he’s organizing a commemoration gala and wanted us to surpise you.”
You moved your attention from Katara to Zuko and asked “You knew about this?” as you saw his golden orbs go back to you.
“I had no idea” he assured you. “Is my uncle here too?” He asked once again to Katara.
“He had business to finish in Ba Sing Se but he’ll be here by tomorrow” it was Aang who intervened this time.
Before anyone else could speak Toph appeared around the corner. “Oh great, you’re back. How was your date?” With those words your heartbeat stopped and restarted again at an impressively fast speed.
Every pair of eyes in the room turned to look at you and Zuko realizing for the first time the two of you had been out together and alone. “Date?” Sokka asked raising an eyebrow. You knew he was never gonna let this go.
“It wasn’t a date” Zuko said from a place he’d stood in behind you. Your heart fell at those words. I mean, yeah he never explicitly said it was a date, and deep inside you knew it wasn’t, but you had hoped that in a way it could’ve been. What hurt you the most was how fast he was to correct Toph, as if he couldn’t stand the idea of your picnic being a date. “Y/N was bored to death and I was too stressed from Fire lord stuff so we took a day off and ate lunch.”
The silence that came after surely couldn’t last more than a couple seconds but to you it was so awkward and shameful it might as well have been two hours. Finally Toph was the once to speak once again. “Well... are we gonna stay here all night and freeze or are we going inside to eat? I’m starving”
——————————-
You did as much as you could to not let Zuko’s comment ruin your night. You got to spend time with your friends for the first time in a while, and at first, swallowing the tight feeling in your throat was hard, you didn’t want to look at Zuko for the rest of the night. The worst part was you knew Zuko hadn’t done anything wrong, it was you who was dumb enough to think a day out could become something else... something more, he was being kind and nice and you turned it into something you knew would end up hurting you. If anything the one you should be mad at is yourself.
But after just a few minutes at the table, listening to Katara and Sokka’s stories about how it was like to go back home after so long, how they’d received them like heroes, how gran gran was so proud of them, Aangs tales of how the other nations are doing and Suki recieving good news from the Kioshi warriors sometimes, soon enough the feeling faded. It would resurface every now and again when Zuko’s eyes would meet your own, an almost worried look on his face but faint enough for only you to notice, but you managed to keep your attention on everyone else.
When dinner was over, Suki was the one to propose the idea of having a girls-only sleep over. Toph, Katara and you agreed, while Sokka told Aang and Zuko they would have a boys night then. You wasted no time making your way to Toph’s room and away from the dinner table. As soon as you walked in you threw yourself dramatically to her bed as the rest of the girls walked inside after you. Toph was the last one and closed the door behind her.
“So... are you gonna keep drowning in your sorrows or are you gonna tell us what happened today at your date.” She jumped to the bed as Katara and Suki took a seat too.
“It wasn’t a date, Toph.”
“You sure wanted it to be” she joked leaning back into her pillows.
“Toph!” You yelled throwing a small cushion at her face which surprisingly she caught with her hand.
“Um... Y/N? Did we miss something? Are you and Zuko...” Suki said looking at you expectantly.
“No! There’s not a me and Zuko, things are like they’ve always been, we’re friends, that’s it.” You responded exasperated
“But... you want to be more.” Katara added, it was more of a statement than a question.
“Ugh i don’t know.” You replied covering your face with your hands. “I mean yeah but it’s dumb and it’s not gonna happen, so no.”
“Well he did seem pretty concerned when you sprinted out of the dining room” She pointed out moving over to braid your hair. She liked to do that because she said it reminded her of when her mom used to do it to her.
“You didn’t tell us what happened today in your little trip” Toph interviened pushing you softly with her foot.
“Nothing, i think. I mean... at one point I think we were about to kiss? But then a guard interrupted us with the news of you guys being here so we had to leave.” You felt a heat take over your body as you remembered the moment when Zuko’s face had been only inches away from yours. “Oh and I kinda fell asleep on him on the way back and he hugged me to warm me up. That’s it”
“That’s it? Y/N you’re really dumb sometimes.” Toph said “If he almost kissed you and you were all cuddly in the carriage then there’s no way he doesn’t like you.”
“He called himself my ‘friend’ while we were eating, and you saw how he got when you said we were on a date. It’s like the idea of it it’s unbearable to him.” You sighed deeply as you felt Katara finishing up your braid. “I think the best thing I can do is get over it.”
“Don’t do something you’ll regret later, Y/N” Suki advised you as she put a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“Yeah...that’s what I’m trying to do.”
—————
That night you had more fun than you remembered having in a long time. Gossiping about boys was first on your sleepover to-do list. You heard Suki complain about all the Southern Water tribe girls who would dwell over Sokka, and how he would be so oblivious about it, it could become so frustrating. “It’s like he doesn’t even notice how all this girls have their eyes glued to him when he tells stories about his travels and basically need a bucket to store all their drooling.” And Katara didn’t have much complaining to do on that area, she said she sometimes would catch girls looking at him in awe but honestly that’s how everyone looked at Aang, besides she was sure Aang was too busy to even pay attention to anyone other than her. Despite complaints about their boyfriends, the two girls seemed to be very happy.
You talked, laughed and ended up falling asleep cuddled together by the end of the night. You missed that, you really did.
But as all good things, it had to come to an end. The sun was rising on the horizon by the time you woke up and decided to go to the bathroom. With your eyes still half closed from the light, you didn’t even notice when you walked into Zuko. You felt his strong chest covered by his work attire and a pair of hands holding you so you wouldn’t trip.
“Y/N” he said surprised to see you. “Good morning.” Zuko smiled at the sight of your sleepy eyes and morning head.
“Hey” you greeted him back “working early?”
He put his hands down from your shoulders and back to his sides before answering “Yeah, actually. I want to get some things done before mid-day. I’m taking all of you to the market to find something to wear for the gala. I asked around and it sounds like Uncle went all out.”
“He’s getting here today right?”
“Later tonight, yeah” Zuko replied. You tried your best not to but it was impossible not getting lost in his eyes for just a second. You’d never noticed how bright they got in direct sunlight, it was like you could even see the golden and orange specks flying in his orbs, just like a wild burning flame. You couldn’t tell if you wanted this to happen so bad you imagined it or if it actually happened, but you could swear his eyes drifted down to your lips for a split second. He was the one break the silence again. “So um... wake the girls up and tell them to get ready, we’ll be on our way at mid-day.”
You were taken out of your trance and forced to answer. “Yeah, will do.” And with that the Fire lord was on his way back to his office and you were left standing alone, like you had many times before.
——————-
The market was filled with people that day. It was bigger than any market you’d ever been in before, it took up blocks upon blocks where sellers would set their carts or open their shops for costumers to come in. There was an entire street dedicated to clothing, so you and the girls decided to separate from the group to go into a store where Katara had seen a particularly nice dress, while they went off to find Zuko’s personal tailor who had a shop right around the corner.
You didn’t even take two steps into the store before Katara whined“Isn’t this the most beautiful thing you’ve seen?” Holding up an aqua marine dress against her.
“I’ve never seen anything more beautiful.” Said Toph, who was standing next to you.
“Ha ha, hilarious Toph”
“It’s really pretty Katara, I think it would look great on you.” intervened Suki looking at her and then turning around to look for one herself.
“I’ll go try it on.” She said walking to the back side of the store where you assumed the dressing rooms were.
You started to walk around trying to find something too, you liked shopping but you were never too good at deciding what would look best on you. A couple dresses caught your eye, but for all of them you ended up deciding they weren’t enough for the occasion. Your search came to an end when you heard Suki yell at you from somewhere in the store. “Y/N!! You need to see this right now!”
You followed the sound of her voice to the opposite end of the store to see her standing in front of a dress. Before she moved to the side to let you get a sight of it she said “You’re gonna love this.” The dress she picked was a long, puffy formal dress, it was mostly red from the bottom but as you looked up to the waist and chest it faded into a deep red and finally to black in the shoulders and sleeves. The neckline had a V shape that would show the shape of your breasts but still was formal and discrete enough to fit the occasion. The back was made out of a very thin lace fabric that would make it seem like the only thing laying on your skin were some black details simulating the shape of flames with some slight golden details on them. It really felt like the dress was made for you.
You were speechless for a couple seconds which Suki took as a hint of you loving it as much as she did. She started to push you to the dressing rooms saying “You need to try it on” until you finally were in one closing the curtain behind you. You thought it wouldn’t take you more than a few minutes to put it on, but in reality it took around ten. Because the dress was very wide and voluptuous, getting it no happened to be harder than it looked and you ended up needing to ask for help from one of the girls that worked in the store. When you finally got it on and looked at yourself you were sure that it was the one.
You were about to walk out when you heard a male’s voice outside the dressing room. “Y/N?” You recognized Zuko’s voice calling you “are you there?”
“Yeah im here.” Almost forgetting what you had on you walked right out to meet him. His eyes fell on you and widened instantly, he looked at you up and down not saying a thing for a good while before you asked “Well? Do you like it?”
“I-I um... yeah, you look... wow” he stuttered back not taking his eyes off of you. You hadn’t seen Zuko this nervous or stuttery since he first met you when he joined the gaang. It was sweet and it made your cheeks gain color once again.
“I’ll take that as a ‘I do like it’.” You chuckled a bit before asking “Where are the girls?”
“They um... they’re already out. It was getting a little crowded in here so they sent me in to look for you.”
“Oh, ok. I’ll take this off and then pay for it, I’ll be done in a second.” You said walking back into the dressing room. Taking it off was significantly easier to do that putting it on, thank the spirits.
Once you walked out Zuko was still waiting for you there. Right as you were about to go pay for the dress, you were sure you saw through the window a familiar face walking in front of the store. You pulled out a bag of coins and handed it to the boy standing next to you. “Zuko... do me a favor. Can you pay for the dress for me? I need to go outside really quick.”
He had a confused look on his face but nodded, taking the bag into one hand and holding the dress in the other. He saw you run outside while he was giving the coins to the old lady who owned the store, faintly listening while she said “She looks beautiful in it doesn’t she? You’re a lucky young man” If he had been paying his full attention, maybe he would’ve corrected her, but his eyes were glued on you. You had stopped a guy in the middle of the street who you looked at with awe and surprise. When he was finally done paying for the dress and the old lady was done packing it up, he walked out of the store only to find this guy holding your face in his hands really close to his, your hands rested on his neck as he approached you and gave you several kisses in your cheeks and forehead while you laughed. The final straw for him was when you raised your hand to his cheek, moving away a bunch of hair that barely covered his face. He was completely sure you were about to kiss him.
Zuko’s heart dropped and his vision turned red. He couldn’t stand looking at you anymore, so he walked up to Aang and the others faster than he meant to.
“Zuko. Are you ok?” Katara asked realizing how his deemeanor had changed.
“Fine. Give this to Y/N.” He ordered handing the dress to her. “I have business to attend at the palace, if you want you can stay and eat around here.”
And without waiting for a reply he took off walking furiously out of the market.

you heard her laugh and suddenly your heart was doing summersaults like it always did when you heard it, no matter how long you had known her, no matter how much you had a heard it, you never got sick of it. there was just something about it, maybe it was just the sound of it or maybe it was knowing that the girl who had your heart was happy.
“you should’ve seen the other guy’s face, i-” sokka retelling of something that had happened to him while he was visiting the south pole got cut off by suki spotting you enter the jasmin dragon, eyes wide with excitement.
“y/n!” she waved to you, helping you locate your friends in the beautiful tea shop even if it wouldn’t have been difficult to do yourself considering your friends weren’t the quietest group of teenagers but it didn’t matter, it was a part of why you loved them dearly.
“hey guys.” you shyly greeted everyone as you finally reached them in the back of the building, not bothering to individually reply to everyone saying their hellos to you as suki shooed zuko that was sitting next to her, making a spot right next to the kyoshi warrior available. you mumbled a sorry to the new firelord but he dismissed it with a knowing smile.
“did you get lost?” suki whispered to you as sokka took the silence that had settled once you found your spot as an inventation to continue his tale, the girl now disinterested in the boy’s story now that you were here, eager to talk with you as you hadn’t been together all day, opting to try and find some of your relatives that you knew lived in ba sing se.
“no, just didn’t see time go by.” you whispered back, turning your head ever so slightly to answer the girl before pretending to listen to sokka’s story, staying silent as everyone interjected, asking questions in order to know more.
“was it fun?” after a couple of minutes of trying to pay attention in his story, suki gave up, wanting to talk to you again as she had missed you dearly throughout the day, not being used to spending that much time without you. being attached at the hip ever since you joined the kyoshi warriors meant you two stuck together through thick and thin, not being complete without the other being near them.
“it was! turns out i have like five cousins here but a couple of them moved to omashu.” you both turned your heads at the same time, fully investing yourselves into your side conversation rather than the one sokka was telling.
“do you think you’ll want to go visit them?” she tucked her loose hair behind her ear. you admired how beautiful her bare face looked, not always getting the possibility to see it for more than a couple of minutes before she’d go to bed or right before she got ready for the day. although you thought her kyoshi warrior makeup looked absolutely badass on her, you couldn’t help but appreciate the natural beauty that laid behind it.
“not sure, kind of have a job. it’s called being a kyoshi warrior, not sure if you’ve heard of it.” you teased, earning a playful eye roll and a shove from the girl, the smile never leaving her face.
“come on y/n, it could be fun!” she insisted, her voice going a bit higher than the rather discreet whispers you had been exchanging.
“what could be fun? what are you two talking about?” both of your heads snapped to whoever had intercepted their conversation, eyes landing on sokka with a huge smirk on his lips as everyone was staring at the two of you causing a blush to dust your cheeks while suki remained unphased.
“y/n has some more family in omashu.” suki explained, making you want to sink further into your chair once you realised this meant that instead of sokka carrying the conversation between the majority of the gaang, you were now the one who everyone’s eyes were on.
“you visited some family here right?” katara was the first to ask you questions, making you dread what you knew was coming. luckily for you, suki noticed your uneasiness and interlocked your pinkies under the table, a habit you had both picked up back when you were training and someone was nervous, it sticking between the two of you. simply having her pinkie against yours brought on a surge of confidence that seemed to appear out of thin air and all of sudden, you didn’t mind being the center of attention for a little while.
but always wished they were more, cause they loved one another,
“boo.” you heard a voice whisper in your ear, pulling you out of whatever dream currently was taking place in your slumber. your eyes shot open, being immediately met with blue eyes glinting with mischief.
“got y’a.” she smirked as she stood up fully, no longer leaning over your face in order to wake you up rather suddenly. you rubbed the sleep out of your eyes as leaned up on both your elbows, narrowing your eyes at your friend that took you out of your peaceful state.
“what the hell was that for?” you whined, voice still groggy for only being awake for mere seconds. before she could answer, you got yours as you simply registered what her face was decorated with. the white makeup that caked her face along with the red and black that surrounded her eyes was all you needed to realise you most likely overslept on what you thought was your day off.
“shit.” you mumbled, throwing the cover off as you stood up, suki moving out of the way to watch you scrambled around the room for your uniform as you were still in your pajama’s. arms crossed, same smirk on her face but it slowly morphed into one of adoration as she watched you mumbled curses under your breath as you wiggled into the kyoshi warrior uniform.
“why did you not wake me up earlier?” you asked in disbelief, not bothering to turn around so she could the annoyance on your face as you rushed to the bathroom to apply your makeup.
“don’t know, it was funny that you didn’t wake up to the bell. and i mean you did look too peaceful to bother.” the last part was mumbled as for you to not catch onto her feelings, she followed you to where you going, making sure to grab your headpiece and your fans as you left them behind.
“very funny suki.” you rolled your eyes as you went through your makeup routine as fast as possible. knowing you were too focused on getting it done as fast as possible with as much as accuracy, she let herself admire the way your tongue stuck out in concentration, the way your eyes narrowed in concentration.
“i must admit, it was a bit hilarious.” you sighed in relief as you put the last touch of the black eyeliner, putting the lid back on the pot before patting yourself down in order to make sure you hadn’t forgotten anything important to your uniform. once you realised you didn’t feel your fans or your headpiece you felt your heartrate pick up.
“shit, my fans.” you mumbled as you turned around. taking a few steps to take your missing pieces before finding your friend in your path, headpiece and fans in her hands, the second sigh of relief escaping your lips in the last couple of minutes.
“you’re a life saver.” you grabbed the headpiece and turned your head slightly to make sure it was placed perfectly on your head before taking the fans and placing them right where they belonged.
“i know, now come on we’re late.” she grabbed your wrist, erasing her love stricken face for a more friendly one before leading the two of you to your posts for the day, not too far from the firelord’s chamber.
but never discovered, cause they were too afraid of what they'd say
“hey y/n.” zuko greeted you as he stepped into his office, delighted to see you were the one currently on watch while he was working, happy to have a friend keep him company even if it was silently.
you simply nodded to the firelord, making sure to keep it professional as you were on duty as his bodyguard. you two may have escaped the boiling rock together, somehow talking so much during your arrest by azula that she ended up throwing you in there with suki, and you two may have ended the hundred year war but now he was the man you were supposed to be protecting and not your friend.
a couple of hours passed in silence as you kept your hands behind your back, the only noise being the turning of pages and the scribbling of notes by the firelord along with the casual chirp of the birds that flew around the garden bringing a small smile on your lips at the nice surprise.
“listen y/n, i know you’re supposed to be professional and all but, i’ve got to ask, what’s going on between suki and you?” this time the surprise wasn’t the lovely song of a native bird but of your friend asking a question that you hoped you never had to answer.
“suki is my fellow warrior, firelord.” your face didn’t waver from the stoic expression you had, the firelord’s inquisitive one being met with a wall of years of training.
“y/n, as firelord, is anything happening between suki and you? you’re in my castle so everything i say goes.” he insisted, watching your face drop, your eyes stating on your feet as you thought of the answer, not knowing if this was the place to finally open up to someone.
“and as your friend too.” he added, his gaze softening as to make sure you didn’t feel too intimated by it.
“i don’t know, i’ve just. all my life suki and i have been best friends but i just, i wished she was more than one.” your voiced dimmed throughout your answer, surprised at how easy it was to coax that out of you.
“you know she likes you too right? i mean it’s so obvious by the way she just becomes all soft inside at the sight of you.” zuko teased, his arm placed above the head of the chair so he could place his chin on it to watch your face more closely, not talking to you in a friendly way for awhile.
“she doesn’t, i know she doesn’t.” your eyes didn’t move but you noticed that your grip on your fans tightened.
“won’t hurt to try?” hope laced in his words as he still waited for your expression to change, knowing that a simple sentence of three words would resolve years of buried feelings between suki and yourself
“actually it would sir, it would ruin our friendship and she’d say the opposite of what you say.” you finally looked up, hoping that he’d catch onto you wanting to drop the subject.
“y/n-" he tried to reason but was cut off by a rather demanding tone that he’d never heard come from you before, a slight surprise in his eyes at the side of you he hadn’t seen yet.
“now if you wouldn’t mind firelord, i’d like to do my job.” it didn’t waver, no emotions could be perceived through the tone that you used, indicating that you didn’t want to go any further and thankfully for you, zuko dropped the subject with a sigh and turned back to his work, letting the silence take over again.
moved to different states
“y/n, you can’t leave!” suki argued, stopping in her tracks as you dropped the news of your planned departure as you two walked towards the throne room where the firelord had asked you to be stationed during a meeting with international leaders.
“can we talk about this later? zuko’s waiting for us.” you stopped and turned your head around, slight annoyance in your gaze as your friend was a few steps behind you. you continued to make your way down the hallway as you heard her hurried steps, you first felt happiness as this meant she was ready to focus on your task at hand but you felt her hand grip your wrist, now causing the both of you to stop.
“no! y/n, the kyoshi warriors need you! i need you.” she pleaded, feeling herself stress at the idea of being separated from you, not being able to see your face that always made her day better, not being able to make you laugh just to hear what she thought was the most wonderful sound in the world. despite constantly having to push down her romantic feelings for you, she’d rather hurt her heart than see you leave.
“suki, you and i both knew that just behind a bodyguard isn’t what i want to do, i know it’s kyoshi’s honour to guard the firelord now but i just feel unfulfilled.” you sighed before deciding to have the much needed conversation with her now instead of later, figuring that getting it out of the way would be beneficial for the both of you.
“we’re not going to be here forever!” she kept her grip on your wrist, afraid that letting you go physically would mean letting you go forever.
“but then we’re just guards for the rest of our lives! that may be something for you but when zuko started talking to me about the possibility of going down to the new developing cities in the old colonies and helping in their development just sounded like something i’d finally want to do.” you explained, just thinking about starting a new life in a town that was just getting on its feet was enough to make the ghost of a smile appear on your face, needing to be on your own, not being able to deal with what you thought were unrequited feelings for your childhood best friend.
“if thatll make you happy.” she mumbled, finally taking her eyes off of yours, not wanting you to see the hurt in her eyes at the prospect of you feeling that your job was pointless, and having to wake up without seeing your adorable sleepy face. her grip loosened.
“it will.” your eyes softening, trying to find hers again as you put one of your hands in one of hers, squeezing it slightly in hopes that it’ll comfort her.
“then that’s great.” she finally looked up, trying her hardest to blink back tears as you kept your fingers interlocked with hers, deciding to make your way to the firelord’s throne room hand in hand for what was most likely the last time.

Day 14: Dao Swords
Continued from Day 13: Folktale. Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
AO3
@zutaramonth The third night came, and it was all the agony of the first two nights and more. He tried to think of Katara, of how he came closer to breaking the curse after every second. He prayed for unconsciousness. He prayed to wake up and run away with his freed princess. Once he heard the familiar ringing in his ears and felt the call of sleep throbbing through his head, he answered it readily.
He woke to Katara whispering sweet praises in his ear. “You did it. You broke the curse.”
“I did?”
“Yes,” she answered tearfully. “I’m free, Zuko. Thank you. Thank you so much.” She kissed him tenderly. It was the loveliest kiss he’d ever known. He held Katara in his arms, relieved that it was finally over, excited to start his life with her, but all too soon she pulled away from.
“I have to go for a few days,” she told him. “My father’s calling me back, but when I return, it will be as a proper princess to come get you and bring you home with me.”
“You mean we’ll be apart?”
“Just for a little while,” she promised. “We’ll be married in no time.”
He leaned forward to kiss her again, to seal her words with his lips, but in a heartbeat, she disappeared. In her place appeared a blue staff engraved with words he didn’t understand. Immediately, however, he knew what to do with it. He took the staff in his hand and leaped to his feet, letting them guide him to the hall where the sleeping men lay. One by one, he took the staff and touched each of the men with it, spurring them to wake. Eventually, he found Jet sleeping, and woke him.
Zuko did his best to explain about Katara and why the men had been trapped in the castle.
“I’ve been asleep for days?”
“Yes, Jet. Now go. Get out of the castle.”
“I can’t just wander the desert by myself. Come with me.”
Zuko refused. “I’m waiting for the Princess.”
“So let me get this straight. Beautiful princess says if you take a beating for three nights, her curse will break, and you’ll get to marry her and inherit her father’s kingdom. Then the beautiful princess disappears when you break the curse, and you really think she’s going to come back?”
“Get out of the castle,” he repeated, though Jet’s words did breathe life into the doubts he’d tried to suppress. What if Katara had used him?
After all the men had left the castle, Zuko became overwhelmed with the events of the night and went to sleep. The next morning, he was surprised to find a bald boy with blue tattoos all over his body sitting at his feet and watching him sleep.
Zuko shrieked in surprise. “Where did you come from?” he shouted.
The boy smiled. “Oh, wow, you’re angry. I’m Aang.”
“How did you get here?”
Aang shrugged. “Katara sent me.”
“Katara? Is she here?”
“No, she’s not here. She sent me ahead to get you ready. She says you have to be out on the castle steps by noon when she gets here. Now that her curse is broken, she can’t enter the castle again, so it’s very important that you’re outside,” he emphasized.
“She’ll be here at noon? What time is it now?”
“A little after ten. You have time. I made breakfast if you’re interested.”
Once Aang mentioned breakfast, Zuko realized how hungry he was. “Sure, thanks. That sounds great.”
“Cool, I can’t wait for you to try this.” A bowl was pushed in front of him, and it smelled sweet like honey. It was some kind of grain, mashed and cooked and sweetened. One spoonful wasn’t enough to sate him; he devoured the whole bowl of it within minutes.
“What was that?” he asked.
“Just an old recipe. Good, right?”
“Really good.” Then Zuko’s eyes fluttered. He fought it at first, but the temptation to sleep became too strong. He slumped to the floor. When his eyes opened, the sun was gone from the sky, and Aang was watching him again. Zuko jerked up.
“Katara!” he called, remembering.
“She’s already gone. She was pretty upset when you weren’t outside. She said you have one more chance at noon tomorrow. Then the castle’s going to disappear, and you’ll never be allowed to find her again, or something like that.”
“Why didn’t you wake me?” he growled, feeling the effects of grogginess and despair.
“I tried. You wouldn’t wake up.”
“I can’t risk that happening again. I won’t sleep again until I see her.”
“Suit yourself.”
Zuko watched the moon through the castle’s windows. It rose higher and higher in the sky, and the stars shone along with it. Soon enough, they disappeared completely from view as the world kept on turning and the sun reappeared to light the sky. Only a few more hours, and then he would be reunited with Katara. Only a few more hours to the beginning of their life together.
“Have you had anything to eat or drink?” asked Aang.
“No, I don’t want anything until I see Katara.”
“But your body needs something. You wouldn’t want to pass out and miss your chance with Katara. I’ll bring you some water at least.”
Zuko conceded to the urging of this odd boy and drank the cup of water he gave him. Then the same feeling as the day before washed over him, and he realized gravely, “You’re drugging me.”
“I’m sorry,” said Aang. “You’re not supposed to be with Katara.”
He felt nothing but rage as the world went black.
The moon was shining down on him. Cool sand bristled against his cheek. He already knew he’d missed Katara. He sat up and saw that the castle had disappeared from sight completely. There was nothing around him but the bleak desert. Then he spotted the glimmering swords by his side. Two dao swords had been left beside him, still in their sheaths. He removed the first carefully and beheld the most beautiful weapon he had ever seen. He knew they were a gift from Katara. He knew his absence had broken her heart. It had broken his heart too. Then he spied the characters engraved in the sword’s pommel. These were not like the ones on the blue staff. These he could read. And they said, Come and find me in the Blue Mountains.
He laughed, taking heart again. He would find Katara. He just had to find these Blue Mountains first. He strapped the swords to his back and wandered through the desert, away from where the war was waging on, surviving on nothing but the milk of desert plants. He sliced through the prickly layer with his swords and grasped the plant carefully to drink from. The milk was rich enough to keep him going.
On the outermost boundary of the desert, right before the beginning of the river lands, he stumbled upon a single home with a lantern lit inside. He knocked on the door, hoping whoever lived there could lead him in the right direction.
“Well, hello, there. Name’s Dock.”
“Zuko. Nice to meet you. Would you by chance know anything about the Blue Mountains?”
Dock’s face lit up. “Well, son, you’ve come to the right place. I have a book that contains the history of the whole world. I can look through it tonight, and if there’s any mention of the Blue Mountains, I can find it.”
Zuko exhaled in relief, marveling at his luck. “Thank you.”
Dock offered him some fish for dinner. Zuko had hoped the fish would be cooked when he accepted, but he soon learned that hunger drove a man to eat things he wouldn’t eat before, though the raw fish left an odd taste in his mouth.
“Okay, so I looked through the book. There’s not a word about the Blue Mountains.”
Zuko slammed his head against Dock’s table. “Not one word?”
“Nope. But I’ll tell you what, if such a place exists, my brother will know. He is the only one in the world smarter than I am.”
“I thought you said your book was a complete history of the world.”
“It is, but my brother has the revised edition. He’ll know.”
“Well, how far away is he from here?”
“Nine hundred miles,” Dock answered, as if nine hundred miles equated to a stone’s throw from the kitchen.
“Nine hundred miles?”
“Don’t stress it, son. One blow of my whistle, and you’ll be at my brother’s in an instant. Just watch.”
The whistle rang through the air, and Zuko was sitting at another kitchen table in front of a man who looked absolutely identical to Dock. “Dock?”
“Dock? Do I look like Dock to you?”
“Uh, yes.”
“Well, Dock’s my brother. I’m Xu. So what can I do for you?”
“I’m trying to find the Blue Mountains. Dock told me if anyone knew about them, it was you.”
“Well you’re in luck. You see, I’ve got a book, and it just so happens that this book-“
“-contains a complete history of the world. Dock told me.”
“The revised edition,” amended Xu.
“Right. The revised edition.”
“I’ll just go grab it and take a look through the index. I bet Dock didn’t look through the index. He’s known to do that--it’s why he has to keep directing people to me. What use is it to have a great book of knowledge and then ignore the index?”
“How terrible,” offered Zuko drily.
“Let’s see. B, Bindu City, Blue Bay, Blue Island, Blue Lagoon, yep, Blue Mountains!”
Zuko jumped to his feet. “Where?” He demanded, feeling as hopeful as when he first noticed the writing on his dao sword.
Xu’s face contorted as he scanned the page. “It doesn’t say.”
“What do you mean it doesn’t say?” demanded Zuko.
“It doesn’t say where the Blue Mountains are, only that the princess of the kingdom was enchanted by a terrible curse.”
“I already know all about that. I broke the curse. I’m supposed to be with the princess, but some bald kid drugged me and she disappeared.”
“That’s quite a sequence of events.”
“I. Know.” he groaned. “I wish she’d left me a map instead.”
“The princess left you something?”
Zuko removed the dao swords from their place on his back. “These,” he said. “They tell me to find her in the Blue Mountains.”
Xu inspected the fine steel of the first sword, noting the engraving of the pommel. “These are finely forged,” he said as he examined them. “You were probably too distracted by that to notice these characters on the blade.”
Zuko’s pulse quickened. “Show me.”
“Here.” Xu held the first dao up to the light and showed Zuko characters written in the same language as the ones on the staff that he had not been able to read. The second dao had different characters in the same spot on the blade as the first.
“Can you read them?”
“Yes, but I can’t translate it.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.”
Xu rolled his eyes. “This is an old, old language. As old as the spirits. I know the basic sounds the characters make, but that doesn’t mean I can derive meaning from them.”
“Then how come the blade is written in the ancient language, and the pommel is written in today’s?”
Xu smiled, revealing yellowed teeth. “I would bet whatever’s written on this blade is magic, and that’s why it doesn’t translate.” The old man touched his finger to the indecipherable characters. “Hmm. I wonder.”
Then Xu’s mouth began to form the words:
Bǎ tā dài dào dàhǎi yǔ tiānkōng xiāngyù dì dìfāng. Bǎ tā dài dào chuàngzuò zhě zài wǒmen zhōngjiān xíngzǒu dì dìfāng. Dài tā qù lán shān shānmài.
Suddenly Zuko was very sleepy. Again.
He woke coughing, expelling the burning seawater from his lungs. Around him he heard the crashing waves of the sea. His whole body felt damp, though the sun above warmed him. When he looked around, he noticed mountains on the other side of the beach, covered in grasses of the most beautiful shade of blue. They were as blue as Katara’s eyes. I’m here, he realized. I made it. When he stood up to his feet, he saw for the first time a castle on the highest point of one of the mountains. Even from his distance, he knew the castle was identical to the one he’d found Katara in so long ago.
Though he was soaked to the bone, he trudged forward, light as a feather. Zuko walked miles and miles up the path on the side of the mountain. He was the talk of the village, apparently. Everyone wanted to know who he was and how he came here. It would seem the Blue Mountains didn’t receive much in the way of foot traffic. No one was ever just passing through.
“Do you think it’s him?” he heard one child say to another.
“Who?”
“You know, the man Princess Katara is going to marry.”
 “I don’t think it’s him.”
Zuko almost laughed.
When he arrived at the entrance of the castle, Zuko requested an audience with Princess Katara.
“The Princess is busy today. Come back tomorrow,” the guards told him.
Zuko did not move. “What is she doing?”
“She’s preparing for her wedding.”
“I’m the groom!” Zuko shouted at them. “Find her and tell her that I’m here. I made it to the Blue Mountains. Go tell her I found her!”
One hurried off while the other kept Zuko outside the entrance. He even tried to send Zuko away again, but he would not budge. He was not moving his feet from their place until he saw Katara.
And then he saw her. She looked even more beautiful in daylight. Brown hair spilled down her back in waves. Blue eyes shined at him, glistening with happy tears. Perfect lips formed his name in disbelief. She threw herself into his arms, and he was all too happy to catch her.
“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting?” she asked.
“As long as I’ve been looking.”
They had waited long enough. They married the very next day.

In the broadest of strokes, how would the endgame have looked like?
Oh man. Writing out the ending is  a lot easier said than done, because there was just so much buildup and lore and backstory that needed to be laid out first, otherwise the significance of the endgame wouldn’t make any sense
But! Broad strokes! I’ll try and cover as much as I can but my memory about everything isn’t perfect. Feel free to ask more questions if you need a gap filled in!
This summary got a lot longer than I anticipated, so the rest is under the tab!
So essentially what was going to happen next was Vriska, John, Liz, FDave and the rest of the remaining kids regrouping and coming up with a plan to get the Ring of Nightmares back from Cristyle, since it is the only way they know of to subdue her, since killing her is near impossible due to her shape-shifting also regenerating her. Fdave, as a last resort, also asked Aradia to come to Earth to try and help them go back in time to fix this, with the understanding that this timeline would be doomed. Aradia shows up, and immediately points out that “time here feels funny”. She explains that it feels like time here is in motion, but somehow senses that in the background everything feels… stilted. Aradia brings out her time travel devices, activates them, and they explode into white bolts that shatter the space around them. Looks like going back in time is not going to happen.
This plan to catch Cristyle ultimately fails, but Terlock appears before our heroes and reveals how they can beat Cristyle: Hades. His void powers allow him to significantly reduce the powers of those around him, hence why they’ve had so much trouble fighting him in the past. This is also why Cristyle constantly berates Hades, essentially she knows he could kill her if he wanted to.
Hades ultimately ends up pulling a Zuko like pretty much everyone predicted! Though his motives are not to save earth in the long term. His home planet is still very much in jeopardy. Rather he realizes they have a common enemy in Nero and agrees to help thwart him.
Cristyle meanwhile is pretty hellbent on getting vengeance on Vriska somehow. She saw the future where Vriska kills her beloved sister Sylja, and wishes to inflict the same pain upon her, before killing her. In the future, (That FDave hurriedly sent her to, to get her out of the way)  he actually returns to the ship flying overhead, where Raven, the Shinobi (and Witch of Time) who is being held captive there. She takes the Scarf of Time, and the dagger pulled from Sylja’s chest, and Nero finds her. He identifies that dagger as one Sylja had stolen from him, and instructs Cristyle to fuse the Scarf and the dagger, take it back in time, and kill John with it.
Meanwhile, Vriska, John, Liz, Fdave, assisted by Hades, Kate and Gary (who have intel on Cristyle’s whereabouts) are able to track down Jade and Roxy, wake them from their slumbers with Hades’ help, and have them rejoin the group. They come up with a plan now that Hades is on their side to travel back to Cyronilla, find the device Nero was planning on using to overclock Cristyle’s powers, and destroy it. Sylja steps in and provides them with a visual of the location of the device, and it is revealed to be none other than a Quest Bed, one with the Heart symbol imbued upon it. 7 more quest beds are in the room, one for each of the following symbols: Void, Mind, Doom, Time, Space, Light, and Breath. The Time and Doom quest beds have blood stains on them.
Nero later finds out about Sylja’s involvement with giving information to the kids. He speaks to her, and informs her that once Cristyle is no longer useful to him, he has no reason not to kill her. He essentially threatens her with Cristyle’s death after the invasion unless she tells him what she told the heroes. And she gives in. Cristyle is informed about the heroes plans, and blows up Hades’s moon base, including all of his transportation equipment and essentially his only way to access Cyronillia, essentially killing their plans to destroy the Heart quest bed.  Also all the cows he had been harboring died too, which enrages Hades, his disdain towards his sister has now been elevated to outright hatred.
Now the only course of action the heroes have is to simply prepare for the invasion. Sollux, Equius, and later Kanaya and Terezi after the threats on Alternia are dealt with, show up, and start preparing weapons to take down ships all over the earth. What they end up making are a network of giant pylons which will defend the planet once they invasion begins. Fdave notes that this timeline has completely veered off from what he remembered. He has no idea of what’s to come, except for the date that Nero and his fleets are set to arrive. They continue to try and track down Cristyle, but she is uncharacteristically keeping her profile low.
Meanwhile, Rose is continuing her adventure through Nero’s castle. There is a lot of running around, guards looking for her. She finds Nero’s room. There she finds Sburb Artifacts. There is a also Lord of Doom outfit. Rose eventually finds her way to Raven’s chamber. Raven talks to Rose, and explains that she’s been captive here for thousands of years. She directs Rose to her journal from her Sburb days. Raven then asks Rose to kill her to spare her misery of existing in this state, and to save Earth. She explains that the Shinobi have been using her powers to travel to Earth and will use them for the final invasion. Rose asks if that means dooming the Shinobi to being sucked into the black hole, and Raven explains that there are plenty of viable planets in their own universe, and Nero’s decision to take over Earth was based on an old prophecy that he was stubbornly following. Rose makes up her mind, and decides to let Raven die. Raven explains that in her suit, there is a magical ring, the counterpart to the Ring of Nightmares, that is keeping her alive, and that Rose must remove it.
Nero however, steps in at the last moment and completely loses his cool seeing Rose about to kill Raven. He throws Rose against the wall, and as his rage builds, the ground around them begins to shake. Outside, the black hole that has been looming over the plan suddenly begins to violently churn and expand. It is Raven who then speaks to Nero, in a calm and lucid voice. She instructs him that he needs to regain his composure, otherwise they will all be destroyed. Nero is at a complete loss for words, stating that this was the first time Raven spoke to him sincerely in ages. Outside, the Shinobi are panicking.
Raven asks Nero to let Rose go. Nero agrees to her wishes. “As you wish, my love” He says. “Child, there is a ship on the far balcony. You may use it to return to your home” Rose, with Raven’s journal safely hidden from Nero, takes the ship, and returns to Earth and rejoins the rest of the kids.
Vriska and John’s relationship continues to advance. They pretty much have nothing left to do except wait for the invasion, so John asks Vriska to a dance held by his school, with the understanding that this may be their last chance to live out sort of a normal life and have a normal relationship.
Cristyle decides that now she will make her move. When Vriska goes off on her own, Cristyle sneaks up behind her, and stabs her through heart with a kitchen knife. Vriska falls to the ground and dies, and Cristyle uses the resulting blood to take Vriska’s form and return to the dance, Nero’s time dagger in hand. Vriska of course, having suffered a blindside death of neither heroic nor just leaning, revives, and realizes that Cristyle can now take her form. She rushes back to the party just in time to see Cristyle dancing with John, and holding the dagger behind his back. She pierces John’s back with the dagger, and what happens John is enveloped in a red crackling light, and he vanishes. Vriska sees this happen and goes into a fury, attacking Cristyle with everything she has. Cristyle eventually returns to her normal form and nearly kills Vriska again, this time with the circumstances of her death potentially being heroic, until FDave and Hades step in and join the fight. Cristyle realizes she is in trouble, and escapes the situation. (this whole scene was actually partially story-boarded in a scrapped flash animation)
Vriska is now completely distraught. John is nowhere to be found, they have no idea what happened to him, if he is alive, or if he can ever be retrieved. The only real reason she had to be on Earth has been taken from her. She begins to spiral into a depression. FDave steps in after Vriska cuts her hair short, just as the Vriska from his timeline did after everything started to go south. He sees this as an omen that nothing has chance, and he steps in to talk to Vriska. He explains to her than in his timeline, Future Vriska, even after John and everyone else died, fought up to her very last breath to try and make things right. He tells her that he knows her, and he knows that she is never one to give up, and has it in her to do whatever it takes to find John and save Earth. He then tells her the story of what happened in his future, and how Vriska sacrifices herself to save him so he could go back into the past and make things right. This whole backstory was also a flash, and I had started story-boarding 4 years ago and had been slowly adding to over time. It is largely unfinished and there is a lot of gaps, here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6yfr3mmnw02hsg6/DaveVriskflash.swf?dl=0(warning: there is some mild flashing colors in this animation that I hadn’t removed yet)
Rose, meanwhile has begun pouring through Raven’s journal, and it is her account of the Sburb session as it happened. Tens of thousands of years ago, the Shinobi had played a Sburb session and created their current universe. The players consisted of Raven: the Witch of Time, Zarlo, the Knight of Space, Icarus: the Heir of Light, Shawntie, the Seer of Breath, Hades: Prince of Void, Cristyle: Thief of Heart, Sylja: Sylph of Mind, and Oren: Lord of Doom.
Rose is very confused by Hades, Cristyle and Sylja’s names being in this journal. As far as she could tell, the three siblings where fairly young and had no involvement with the Sburb game. The Shinobi described in this book where clearly different people with their similarities to their modern counterparts only superficial. Rose reads on and finds that as with any session full of teenagers, a lot of drama ensued. Their was a power struggle between Shawntie, Oren, and Hades. All three of them wanted to be in charge of the team. Oren was the reincarnation of Orpheus, who was essentially Shinobi Jesus, and believed that he was entitled to lead them all to victory. Shawntie however despised Oren and felt he didn’t live up to who Orpheus once was, and asserted that she had to work to gain her prestige unlike Oren who has born with it. Hades, however saw the instability in the two of them. He knew that Oren was deeply insecure and mistrusting, and Shawntie was headstrong and stubborn, and offered to lead the group, as he was the true heir to the Throne of the Shinobi before their home was destroyed in The Game. Oren despised the two of them, Shawntie whom he had never gotten along with was ruthless in her criticism of him, and Hades he despised for more complicated reason.
Oren had grown up believing that he was the prince of his people set to inherit the throne. In reality he was a decoy prince, places their in order to protect the true blood heir, Hades (Sort of like how in the prequel Star Wars trilogy, Padme was the real queen, while the Queen Amedala we saw was just a decoy). When Oren discovered that he would not inherit the throne he began to mistrust everyone around him. He loathed Hades, feeling that he was not raised to be ruler, and therefore has no claim to the throne. Even after it was revealed that Oren was the reincarnation of Orpheus, the savior of the Shinobi, they refused his claim to royalty, stating that Orpheus was not a figure meant to lead, but a figure of self sacrifice for the greater good. Oren was intended to step aside and allow Hades to be the true ruler. Then Sburb happened and all of that stopped mattering.
There were also some LOVE TRIANGLES going on with the 8 Shinobi! Oren was in love with Raven, who wanted nothing to do with him. She saw just as plainly as any what an insecure backstabber he was. Cristyle became enamored with Oren after discovering he was Orpheus’s reincarnation. Sylja was in love with Cristyle, because as a orphaned child, Sylja grew up on the streets, cast out by society. It was Cristyle who was the first one to show her kindness and would offer her food and money any time they encountered each other. They became good friends, but Cristyle was completely unaware of Sylja’s affection for her.
There’s a couple Shinobi I haven’t talked about much yet, as they are kind of irrelevant to the grand scheme of things, but in summary of each of the 8:
Oren: The reincarnation of Orpheus, though thus far he had been failing to live up to it. Hades: The levelheaded and wise beyond his years Prince of the Shinobi.  Cristyle: The intelligent and charismatic hero, her drive and resourcefulness she chose to use for good.Sylja: The soft-spoken and shy orphan girl, shunned by society but brought into the friend group by Sylja. Shawntie: The brash and stubborn leader type. Raven: The bookish and withdrawn spell-caster, and unknown to her, the reincarnation of Eurydice, Orpheus’s beloved wife whom he failed to save in the past. Zarlo: The trickster, used to work in a circus.Icarus: The engineer, is lucky there is no sun in Sburb for him to fly too close to.
So the stage is set, the 8 Shinobi play out their game. Everything is going according to plan, with the Shinobi making good progress in completing their assigned trails and whatnot. As Oren is progressing towards his Denizen encounter, he finds that the way is blocked with 8 locked keystones, each one corresponding to the Aspect of each player in their game. He activates the Doom keystone, and realizes he needs to bring each of the other players to unlock their keystones so he can progress. He manages to convince each of them to activate their corresponding stones, up until he gets to Shawntie. She refuses to help him out, and Oren becomes enraged. They argue, and in a fit of hysteria, Oren kills Shawntie. He is horrified at what he’s done, and hides her body away.
Some time passes and Oren ends up alchemizing a dagger. But, as soon as he picks it up, it begins to emit red sparks, flies out of his hand, and John appears! This knife is piercing his chest, but their is no blood and he doesn’t appear to be harmed.
Rose, upon reading the book, realizes what happened to John, that he was sent back in time to the point in time where the dagger he was stabbed with was created.
John quickly befriends Oren, and soon realizes that he has been sent to a Shinobi session. However, he doesn’t realize that he has been sent back in time. He believes that these Shinobi are currently in the process of playing Sburb, believes that the black hole devouring Cyronillia is Sburb’s way of destroying their planet. John realizes that if he helps the Shinobi complete their session and create a new universe, they will no longer need to search for a new home and can leave Earth alone.
So John proceeds to help Oren, and they locate his quest bed. John explains that when he is ready, Oren must die on this bed in order to resurrected in his God Tier form, and that each of his friends must do the same. Oren, realizes his session might be doomed since Shawntie is dead, and he keeps quiet about this. He doesn’t want John to know he killed her.
John eventually explains to Oren that his home is under attack by his people. The Shinobi want to make Earth their new home. John talks about Earth extensively, and how much he loves it and how much they sacrifices to get their new home. Oren listens intently. He doesn’t comment about how his home was destroyed, and internally he starts to piece things together…
Eventually Oren takes John to the temple with the aspect Keystones. There is one left, the Breath keystone, and John, as an Heir of Breath, is able to activate it. Oren thanks him, and John explains to Oren that he is about to face Yaldabaoth, the most powerful Denizen. However, before they part ways for Oren to face his Denizen, Shawntie appears, inexplicably revived. She explains that Hades found her, and had revived her dream self. She has come back for revenge, stating that Oren is a danger to their entire session and attacks him. Oren and Shawntie fight again, with John being knocked out trying to mediate. Shawntie is victories this time, landing a fatal strike on Oren. She leaves him there to die.
John wakes up while Oren is bleeding out, and realizes they can’t beat their session without him. He carries Oren to his Quest Bed where he dies, and moments later Oren is resurrected as the fully realized Lord of Doom. Oren thanks John for reviving him, but something in Oren has changed. He tells John that he is going to kill Shawntie, and John tries to stop him. But, Oren pulls the knife from John’s chest, and he fizzles out in a burst of sparks. He takes the knife, hunts down Shawntie and kills her.
Upon finding out what he had done to her, the rest of the Shinobi turn on him, but they are outmatched. His paranoia and spite got the better of him, and one by one he killed Hades, Sylja, Cristyle, Zarlo, and Icarus. Even Raven he decides is better off dead than knowing the atrocities he’s committed. However, as he watches her bleed out, he decides he can’t let her die. He brings Raven to her quest bed and she revives as a God Tiered Witch of Time.
Oren falls to his knees before her and cries, completely overcome by guilt and horror at what he has done. He pleads with her that he will do whatever it takes to atone for his crimes. He will do whatever it takes to set things right. He says he will find a way to save this session, create a new empire, and he and Raven can rule together for the rest of their immortal existence. But Raven refuses, and leaves him alone to rot in this failed session.
Left with no other choice, Oren returns to the gate John had helped him open and proceeds to make the trek to the center of his planet down a spiral staircase to confront his only remaining hope: Yaldabaoth.
Yaldabaoth explains to Oren that his actions have doomed the session, but he offers him a choice. If Oren is successful in defeating him, Yaldabaoth will grant him one of two options:
1) All of Oren’s friends that he killed will be revived and able to complete the session and move on create a new world, at the cost of Oren being forever trapped in the core of his planet in the session for the rest of eternity.
2) Oren may complete the session by himself, but the new universe he created will be doomed from the start. The soul of Orpheus that he had betrayed will slowly consume everything until all that Oren had worked for would be destroyed.
Oren, being unable to cope with the idea of sacrificing himself, chooses the 2nd option. He kills Yaldabaoth, and the choice he made is set into motion. Oren proceeds to the new Cyronillia, and creates a new empire in which he is the sole ruler. The black hole that Yaldabaoth promised is created, only known to Oren, and it slowly begins to expand threatening to devour everything. Raven attempts to thwart him, and he captures her and holds her prisoner, hoping that one day she will come to see him as he sees her.
Oren, still struggling with the guilt, reverses his name to Nero. He wants to leave the past behind him and start over as a new person. He knows that Shinobi souls reincarnate, and hopes that as his old friends reincarnate he can make things right with them. But time and time again, as his friends reincarnate, he repeats the same mistakes. He can’t let go of his disdain of Hades, he is terrified to let any new version of Shawntie live past childhood in fear that she will grow up despise him and try to kill him.
It is Sylja who is the most problematic for Nero. As a Sylph of Mind, for some reason Sylja is able to remember every past incarnation of herself, and thus she remembers the atrocities Nero committed. She has been responsible for every uprising against him, and after so many failed uprisings, Sylja lost hope and vowed to never speak again.
Over time Nero grows more and more jaded. And he becomes more and more desperate to find away out of the thrall of the black hole. It is his encounter with John that gave him hope of escape. To Nero, John was a walking prophecy, that one day his empire would seek out a planet in another universe known as Earth, and he would make his new empire there. And thus, he begins his plans to take over. Nero over time decides to take on three children (Shinobi don’t reproduce normally, they are created in a DNA pool and given to Shinobi who are fit to raise them). The three children Nero happen to receive are Cristyle, then Sylja, then Hades. Maybe now that his old friends are finally this close to them he can keep an eye on them… Maybe raising them is how he will atone for killing them in the past, he decides.
So back with the heroes, Rose is now informed about the Shinobi session, and knows what happened to John. And, just in time, John appears back in the school gymnasium, and returns to the group. Vriska is overjoyed, and imbued with a new sense of hope. Rose informs them all of the story of Nero and the session.
And here is where I stop writing for the time being, as this “Broad strokes” summary has ballooned out more than I anticipated. I will try and have the rest of out as soon as I can, don’t be afraid to keep bugging me about it!
Feel free to ask any questions, as there where a lot I skimmed over and a lot of plot threads I didn’t talk about. I will try and answer what I can time permitting.

pt25
The three men sat around the table in Zuko’s room, drinking tea and swapping stories. Even though he had heard them a million times before, Zuko asked his friends to recount their adventures with (Y/N), before the two had reconciled. It made him happy to know that she had been taken care of in his absence.
(Y/N) couldn’t contain her nerves. Every inch of her body felt alive, like electricity flowed through her veins. This electricity translated into not being able to sit still, which greatly annoyed the servants that were helping her get ready. She kept having to get up and walk around to stretch her legs, or take a quick trip outside to get some fresh air.
Katara eyed her as (Y/N’s) foot tapped against the marble floors of her bedroom. She had barely spoken all morning, which was very unlike her dear friend. Toph coughed from her spot on (Y/N’s) bed.
“Could you stop doing that?” Toph asked. “I can barely see with all the movement you’re making.” (Y/N) halted her foot immediately.
“Sorry, Toph,” She muttered. She looked down at her hands, which still shook, but she clenched her fists to get them to stop.
“It’s going to be okay,” Katara said, placing her hand atop (Y/N’s). She stared into her friend’s eyes. Katara was always honest, especially with her. (Y/N) let out a small chuckle.
“I don’t know why I’m so jittery,” she admitted. “It’s not like I haven’t known this day would come for the past year.”
It had been almost exactly one year since Zuko had proposed to her on her birthday. She remembered grabbing him by the arms and asking him if he was sure that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. “I’ve never been more sure of anything,” He had said, and the biggest smile appeared on her face as she accepted his offer. He had slid an engagement ring on her finger almost immediately. “I’d been planning on doing this since the first day I saw you after my banishment.”
“Even though I was fighting against you?” Zuko nodded, his eyes crinkling from his own smile.
She stared at the ring now. It never failed to take her breath away. He had it made especially for her. Traditionally, a Fire Lord would propose with his mother’s engagement ring, but Zuko thought that would be a bad omen on their marriage considering how things ended with his parents.
“You’re excited,” Suki said, leaning back into her seat. She and Katara were also being pampered by the servants. They scrubbed at her nails and feet and combed her long brown hair. Toph had opted out of a beauty treatment, considering how she had thrown a woman through a wall the last time someone touched her feet in Ba Sing Se.
“There’s going to be so many people there,” (Y/N) mumbled. Growing up as Fire Nation nobility, she had always been around large crowds of people, but that didn’t mean she liked it. She like to keep her circle small and if it were up to her, she would have had the smallest wedding possible. Maybe Momo as the officiant. But Zuko was the Fire Lord, and with that title came certain expectations. The people of the Fire Nation were invited to watch the ceremony. From what (Y/N) had heard, it was something they all looked forward to, so who was she to deny them of that?
“We’ll be there too,” Katara assured her. “Besides, you only have to focus on one person.” (Y/N) felt butterflies flutter in her stomach. She and Zuko hadn’t been able to see each other at all that day. It was customary for the bride and groom not to see each other until the ceremony, but (Y/N) hated it. She couldn’t run to the one person who gave her comfort and it annoyed her endlessly.
“What kind of food will we have later?” Toph asked. “I’m starving.”
“I can ask the servants to bring you something,” (Y/N) said to her friend. Toph rubbed her hands together as she listed everything she wanted to eat in that moment.
Zuko was in his room on the other side of the castle, with Aang and Sokka. Both had agreed happily to being groomsmen, but Zuko extended the special invitation of best man to Aang. They had been through so much together and they had both changed for the better. If it weren’t for Aang, Zuko might never have reunited with (Y/N) again. Aang graciously accepted his offer. Momo and Appa had been given the titles of honorary groomsmen, but they wouldn’t fit at the altar with the rest of them.
The three men sat around the table in Zuko’s room, drinking tea and swapping stories. Even though he had heard them a million times before, Zuko asked his friends to recount their adventures with (Y/N), before the two had reconciled. It made him happy to know that she had been taken care of in his absence.
“She took care of herself,” Aang said with a laugh. “It was hilarious seeing an enemy’s face once they realized we had a firebender with us.”
“Especially when we were fighting against the Fire Nation,” Sokka chimed in. “You guys were all ‘Who? What?’ and (Y/N) was all ‘Boom, Bang! Fire blast!’“
“She is a strong fighter.” The guys turned to see Iroh standing at the doorway. Zuko stood and smiled, bowing to his uncle.
“I’m so happy you could come,” He said as they hugged. Iroh squeezed him tightly.
“As if I would miss my own nephew’s wedding! The tea shop is busy, but never too busy for you.” Iroh took a seat at the table. “So, have you prepared your vows?”
Zuko’s face paled. “Vows? Vows? No one told me I had to do vows!” He began pacing around the room, scrambling for a piece of paper and a brush.
“Zuko, it’s fine!” Aang assured him. “Just speak from your heart!”
“It took me years to tell her that I loved her and you want me to speak from the heart?” Zuko was spiraling. How could he have forgotten about the vows? He had made sure that everything else was in line except the one thing that he actually needed to do. (Y/N) would be absolutely mortified is she recited her vows to him and he didn’t have any to say back! What kind of husband would he be if he couldn’t prepare vows?
“We only have an hour before the wedding,” Sokka said, pulling Zuko back over to the table and making him take a seat. “So we all need to brainstorm. All of us know (Y/N) and Zuko pretty well. We’ll just give you ideas of what to say and then we’ll write them down!”
Zuko nodded. “Okay, that sounds good.”
Silence fell over the table as they all thought of what Zuko could say for his vows. Each man stared at each other, waiting for someone to speak up. Finally, Iroh spoke:
“Tell her that she is as lovely as freshly brewed tea.”
Zuko sunk into his seat and groaned. This would be a long hour.
In (Y/N’s) room, she and her friends were putting on their dresses. In the Fire Nation, all women wore different variations of white and red to weddings. The bride’s dress was supposed to be the most elegant, so that she would be set apart from the other attendees. Her hair was placed in an intricate updo, with the traditional royal family crown placed on top.
(Y/N) stared at herself in the mirror. She could barely recognize herself, but she felt beautiful. “I look like a princess,” She said to her friends.
“Like a queen.” Ursa stood in the doorway, smiling softly at her future daughter-in-law. (Y/N) smiled widely, running over to embrace her.
“I’m so happy you’re here!” She pulled away from Ursa, her smile faltering just a bit. “Did you...?”
After announcing the engagement to Ursa, she had asked (Y/N) privately if there was anything that she could do to help prepare for the wedding. She had only one request: locating her own mother to see if she would attend the wedding.
(Y/N) and her mother had had their ups and downs throughout her life, but after their moment in her jail cell, she really began to miss her. It was obvious that her mother was under her father’s thumb and had no way of escaping. And while she loved Zuko’s family like her own, the idea of not having members of her family present at her wedding saddened her.
Ursa smiled, stepping to the side to allow (Y/N’s) mother to enter the room. It had been years since they had last seen each other, but the signs of aging were lost on her mother’s beautiful face. Much to (Y/N’s) surprise, her mother’s eyes watered as soon as she saw her.
“You look so beautiful,” She whispered, embracing her daughter in a hug. (Y/N) gripped onto her for dear life. She felt a wave of relief wash over her as her mother held her.
“I’m so happy you could come,” (Y/N) said with a smile. She turned back to her friends. “These are my friends! Katara, Suki, and Toph.”
“You raised a wonderful daughter,” Katara said, but her mother shook her head.
“She did that all by herself.”
“Can you stay for the ceremony?” Her mother’s eyes quickly turned sad.
“Your father forbade me from attending. I had to sneak away just to come here with Ursa.”
“Why would he do that?” Suki asked. (Y/N) sighed.
“Because he disowned me. As far as he sees it, I’m not their child anymore. But Mother, I’m marrying Zuko. You know that if there’s anything you need--” Her mother held up a hand to silence her.
“I am being taken care of, my dear, and you are as well. That is all I could ask for.”
“You’re going to let your stupid husband keep you two apart?” Toph asked. She was always far more blunt than the rest of them.
“It’s complicated,” (Y/N) said quietly, before her mother could say it. “I understand. I suppose he can’t forbid you from coming to a royal summons?” Her mother smiled.
“No, he cannot.” She hugged her daughter tightly. “I love you, and I am so proud of you.”
(Y/N) felt her tears swell, but she forced them down so she wouldn’t ruin her makeup. Ursa led her mother out.
“Are you okay?” Katara asked. (Y/N) nodded.
“She said she loved me and she was proud of me. And I know I don’t need her approval to know that I’ve been doing the right things but...” She took a deep breath. “It still meant a lot.”
Her friends smiled and wrapped her into a big hug. It took Toph a little bit to join, but once she did, they squeezed her tightly. Despite everything, (Y/N) missed her parents a lot. But she knew she had been given an even better family in her friends.
Zuko, Iroh, Aang, and Sokka, had used every minute available to complete Zuko’s wedding vows. It took a lot of trial and error, but Zuko figured they were as good as they were going to get. “Remember,” Aang whispered as they walked to the altar. “If all else fails, speak from the heart.”
Zuko stood at the top of the steps of the palace courtyard, Sokka and Aang standing a step below him. Momo stood at Sokka’s feet at the bottom of the steps. No one was really quite sure how he had acquired a bowtie, but they decided not to question it.
Iroh stood beside Zuko. He and (Y/N) had asked if he could officiate their wedding, and he had graciously accepted. He smiled gently at his nephew before leaning close. “From the time you were small, I could tell that your souls were intertwined. You loved each other in a past life and will love each other in the next. Congratulations, my nephew.”
Zuko smiled at his uncle. His comment made him emotional, but he was trying not to think about it. The idea that he and (Y/N) would always be perfect for each other made his heart swell the biggest it had ever been.
Toph was the first to walk out, guided by Suki. She stood across from Momo while Suki stood across from Katara. Toph raised an eyebrow. “Why’s Momo with the groomsmen?” Suki shushed her as Katara walked out, taking her place across from Aang. They smiled at each other.
“I can’t wait to marry you,” Aang mouthed to Katara, which caused her to blush.
Finally, (Y/N) exited the palace, the long train of her dress flowing behind her. She kept her head down so that she wouldn’t trip, and only looked up when she took her place beside Katara, across from Zuko. When her eyes met his, all of her fear and worry melted away. She smiled at him.
Zuko couldn’t help the few tears escape from his eyes as he stared at (Y/N). She looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. The sheer realization that this was actually happening, that after everything they had been through together and apart, was enough to make him cry.
She reached out and wiped away his tears, her own sliding down her cheeks. They held each other’s hands as Iroh began the ceremony. (Y/N) felt like every word that Iroh was saying went in one ear and out the other. All she could focus on was Zuko.
When it came time for vows, (Y/N) cleared her throat. She had spent weeks memorizing her vows with Katara, to the point where she had them down perfectly. Her only worry was that her emotion would get the best of her as she recited them.
“I wrote and rewrote these vows a thousand times. What can you say to the person who means the world to you? No matter how hard I tried to shake you and shove down how I felt about you, you always came back to remind me how much I loved you. I loved you every single time that we fought against each other and I loved you every time that we fought with each other. I’m not big into the spiritual stuff, as you know, but a very wise old man once said that you and I were connected by an indestructible thread. No matter how hard either of us tried to cut it, it would never break. And I think that’s true, because no matter where I went, I always found you again.” She inhaled a shaky breath. “You are my sun, moon, and stars. You are everything I ever wanted out of life and more. I love you, Zuko, even more than I love the palace’s fruit tarts.”
When she finished, Zuko couldn’t help but press his lips to hers. (Y/N) giggled into the kiss before softly pushing him away. “You weren’t supposed to do that yet.”
“I don’t care,” Zuko said with a smile.
He pulled his piece of paper out of his pocket and inhaled a deep breath. He only hoped that he could do her vows justice. “I’m not good with words. You know this. I shut down and I keep things bottled up a lot. I’ve been like that for as long as I could remember. But you...you wouldn’t let me. Whenever I was upset as a kid, you’d ask me what was wrong and wouldn’t leave me alone until I had an answer to give you. You’re stubborn, and I’m stubborn too, but your stubbornness always wins in the end.” (Y/N) smiled at him.
“For a long time after I was banished, I wouldn’t let myself be happy. I had one main goal in life and would stop at nothing to achieve it. But when I saw you again for the first time in three years, you threw my goals off course. I was trying to hunt the Avatar, but I knew one step closer to him would be another step closer to you. It didn’t matter that you were fighting against me. Seeing your face gave me the spark that I needed to continue another day. Whether I was sad, happy, or angry, I always wanted you at my side. And I want you to be at my side everyday for the rest of our lives. Because when I’m with you, no matter what I’m feeling, I’m still the happiest I’ve ever been.”
(Y/N) was fully crying now, her makeup undoubtedly ruined, but she didn’t care. She loved Zuko with all of her heart. Every bad thing that had ever happened to her, every battle, every tear that she had ever shed, faded into nothingness.
They said their “I do’s,” and before Iroh could get the last few words of the ceremony out, Zuko’s arms wrapped around (Y/N’s) waist and pulled her close. Their kiss sealed their marriage. Neither could believe that after everything that had happened, they were standing together, finally married. It had been a long time coming, full of trials and tribulations and heartache and sadness, but they both wouldn’t change it for a thing.
The couple pulled apart, smiling at each other, before turning to the crowd to present themselves. They waved at the people who watched as Iroh boomed behind them: “I present to you: Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Queen (Y/N)!” Their friends and the people of the Fire Nation cheered for them. She saw Mai and Ty Lee at the front of the crowd, both wearing smiles on their faces as they clapped. Momo leapt into (Y/N’s) arms, giving her a big lick on the cheek.
A dagger flew through the crowd, narrowly missing (Y/N’s) head as it sank into the wooden pillar behind her. Throngs of people dressed in black jumped over the palace wall. The crowd screamed in terror, and (Y/N), Zuko, and their friends watched as the men and women in black began fighting their way toward the palace.
Zuko looked down at (Y/N). “Are you ready?” She nodded.
“It wouldn’t be a party without at least one battle.” Zuko chuckled.
As a team, (Y/N) and her friends sprung into action to fight. As she fought with her firebending, she couldn’t help but think that this was the perfect wedding.
