I’m repeating myself and it’s time to repeat myself again: Star Wars always has and always will mirror the real world we live in.

And remember: Star Wars is a spectrum from the silly Jedi Adventures all the way to the boots on the ground story of Andor. Sometimes it’s bright and funny. Sometimes it’s dark and gritty. Sometimes it’s a mix. The original trilogy went back and forth between the two from the funny “into the garbage chute flyboy” to the gnarly demise of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. The Clone Wars went back and forth from funny to dark all the time. From a silly adventure training younglings to finding Echo being used as a literal puppet for the separatists.

Star Wars is f**king wild. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Stealing from Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is a new low.

As users posted their Ghibli-style images on social media, Miyazaki’s previous comments on AI animation also began to resurface. When Miyazaki was shown an AI demo in 2016, he said he was “utterly disgusted” by the display, according to documentary footage of the interaction. The person demonstrating the animation, which showed a writhing body dragging itself by its head, explained that AI could “present us grotesque movements that we humans can’t imagine.” It could be used for zombie movements, the person said.

That prompted Miyazaki to tell a story.

“Every morning, not in recent days, I see my friend who has a disability,” Miyazaki said. “It’s so hard for him just to do a high five; his arm with stiff muscle can’t reach out to my hand. Now, thinking of him, I can’t watch this stuff and find it interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is.”

“I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.”

These are some of the images that inspired the Tech commission. It was tempting to maybe go with him holding his data pad or fixing his glasses but I ultimately went with the powerful pose and the teeny tiny smirk. I wanted to see badass Tech in his season 1 armor and also helmet-free Tech with the subtle smile in the corner of his mouth. I love it. Armor Tech just looks like a powerful mother effer. It is always satisfying watching him go from something like chilling on his data pad then immediately go into kick-ass mode. He’s smart. He’s strong. And he will correct you.🥰
