Our Teitho prompt for June/July is Inheritance.
We can’t wait to see how you choose to use this prompt!
Inheritance can have many meanings. It can be the physical traits one inherits from relatives—eye color, hair color, a cleft chin—or it can be a tendency that runs in a family—a short temper, chattiness, prophetic dreams.
It could be a physical object like a home, a sword, a keepsake. Or a heavier burden like an oath or vow. Or it could be both, like the Ring of Barahir.
It can be a bloodline—like the Dunedain or the line of Durin. Or a legacy—like the shards of Narsil or the Arkenstone.
Inheritance may be tangible or intangible, may bring joy, wealth, or immense tragedy.
Inheritance can vary between siblings. Or it can lead to strife between family.
What story or art of Inheritance will you give us this month? Please submit your art or story to [email protected] by July 31st.
We can’t wait to see what you create!
Your teitho mods,
Sian22, lotrfan, and Cassie

Our prompt for May/June is Weddings.
Spring is a common time for weddings and it may be so for Middle-earth as well. For example, Aragorn and Arwen married in the spring.
Wedding rites may vary among the races of Arda. Will you give us stories of Elven weddings, the rituals of Dwarves, or the ceremonies of Men. What about Hobbits?
Weddings bring joy, they can unite families, they can also bring alliances.
How will you weave a wedding tale for us? Will it be a story of Fëanor and Nerdanel? Or Beren and Luthien?
The courtship of Sam and Rosie? Or a deeper look at Faramir and Eowyn?
We look forward to your wedding stories and art for this prompt!
Please submit to [email protected] by June 30 2025!

Sian, Lotrfan and Cassie

Our prompt for April/May is Spring.
Spring figures noticeably in a number of Tolkien’s works. From that long-ago spring in the Shire when Bilbo ran out of Bag End without a handkerchief, to the spring flowers Sam and Frodo see circling the fallen king’s statue as they travel to Mordor. Sauron is defeated in spring, the rebirth of Middle-earth cleansed of the shadow of Mordor.
Aragorn and Arwen wed and are crowned in that fateful spring.
Treebeard references a long ago spring with the Entwives. And spring is when Sam marries Rosie Cotton, a spring marked by many weddings.
In the Silmarillion we read of the Spring of Arda, the first and the second.
Luthien danced in the spring and was perceived by Beren.
But there is also the idea of springs as sources of water—springs that we find referenced in all of Tolkien’s writings.
What springs will you give us for this prompt? The springs of Sirion or those near Nargothond? The ones that were choked and marred in Mordor? Or will you give us stories of springtime in Beleriand, the Shire, Gondor?
We look forward to your stories and art! Please submit by May 31, 2025 to [email protected]

Our prompt for March/April is Mothers!
Exploring the idea of mothers in Tolkien lets us go behind the scenes. We have quite a few mothers directly in the narrative, primarily in the Silmarillion—where we see Miriel, Nerdanel, Morwen, Idril, Aredhel, Luthien, Elwing, and even have mentions of Anaire and Earwen.
In The Lord of the Rings we read of Galadriel being Celebrian’s mother and Arwen’s grandmother. Aragorn’s mother Gilraen, Faramir and Boromir’s mother Finduilas, and Rosie Cotton—Sam’s wife—are all mentioned in the narrative.
The Hobbit gives us a memory of Belladonna Took, Bilbo’s mother, and mentions of Thorin’s sister Dis—the mother of Fili and Kili.
The stories of any of these characters would make for fascinating fic! Or art!
There are many who remain unmentioned and unnamed—Legolas’s mother, Gimli’s, the mothers of generations of Dunedain, of Gondorians, of the Rohirrim, of the Shire. And consider Ungoliant, mother of Shelob!
And mothers among the ranks of orcs.
We are excited to see where this prompt takes you and which character gives you inspiration!
Please submit your fic or art by April 30 to [email protected]

WE ARE BACK!
Thank you to all who filled out the survey! The consensus was to keep going with challenges, keep them in current format, try to increase our visibility. We’ll be looking at other hosting options but will stay at ProBoards for now as we search for alternatives. We’ll keep the lights on and see how things go! As always we welcome your feedback and commentary.
Please see our NEW CHALLENGE below:
Our challenge for February/March 2025 is Resolution.
A new year often brings thoughts of resolutions—from small ones like “I’m not going to eavesdrop while lurking in the hedges under Mr Frodo’s window “ to more significant ones like “I will not swear an Oath relegating me and my sons to the Everlasting Dark if we don’t fulfill it.”
Making a resolution is one thing, but keeping to it is another.
A resolution may be a promise that you keep to yourself. Or it may be a state of mind—being resolved or determined.
A literary resolution is the conclusion of a story—the resolving of all the conflicts between characters.
Which type of resolution will you choose for your story or art? Will it be a character keeping a promise to themselves? Or finding the determination and resolve to see a task through to its end? Perhaps you will give us an alternative or reimagining of an ending to an event or story line.
Whatever you choose, please know we are eager to see your creation!
Please send us your submission by March 31st to [email protected]
