It took three attempts in three separate episodes, but people finally believed Ruby. Sure, the Doctor repeatedly said she was crazy in front of people who practically worship him, but it did happen. Yay.
#i got so angry at that scene#you said ruby was your best friend#and now she's just delusional#fuck that#< prev tags

Forgive me if it’s not my place to bring up, but I can’t stop thinking about this season’s treatment of brown women. Cause like Belinda gets almost zero development or agency the whole season and mostly exists to react to things, while Ruby does the plot relevant stuff like meeting Conrad.
Then in Conrad’s World Belinda has to be the housewife character who betrays the Doctor, while Ruby gets to remember the old world and do MORE plot relevant stuff. THEN after they have their memories back Belinda gets actually physically shoved in a box while, again, Ruby meets with Conrad and helps save the world and ends up being the only one to remember Poppy. And ALSO Panjabi!Rani, who gets far less screen time and build up compared to Mrs. Flood, monologues for a bit before meeting a brutal and undignified death. While Mrs. Flood just gets to escape unscathed. What the hell was the point.
THEN!! Because we’re still going!! Belinda is just forced into a motherly role that was never hinted at, and the doctor leaves her behind. And most of the focus on HER motherhood revolves around her child and the fact that the Doctor is sad he isn’t a dad. No space for her to really process what’s been done to her beyond like, one line.
Just. I feel so bad for Belinda’s character. No allowance for growth or agency, no real consideration for her emotions beyond a sudden and unexplained desire for motherhood (shoving specifically a brown woman into a motherly role once the plot no longer requires her), just using brown women when it’s convenient and throwing them out when they’re done. AND the Omega plotline was stupid.
In sum: RTD WHAT is your damage!!!!!!

It was all RTD's (and, well, the Doctor's, too) fault and people are hating on my girl Ruby???? Like, haven't you seen how traumatized she has become in the past two seasons? Look at the way all the people including the Doctor don't trust in her memory and insisting that she was wrong...and remember it has happened multiple times...She IS the very victim of memory correction wdym its just her "inability to adjust"??? All the time she's asking if her memory is real and everyone's like "nah girl you lie" and nobody even bother to ask why she think of that????...Belinda's whole life being re-written wasn't even her wish, she asked only because the Doctor promised they won't let Poppy vanish but yet she did and now they act like nothing happened and that is absolutely horrifying. Changing Belinda's life is all Doctor's own idea.

Episode one Belinda: breaks up with her boyfriend because he’s a controlling misogynistic prick who wants her to conform to the role of wife and mother, when he later kidnaps her to force her to marry him she calls him an incel and explodes him
Episode eight Belinda: I can’t help you with the battle I’m no use at saving the world, the best thing I can do is stand in this box with my daughter and be a mother, I love being a mother, please rewrite my entire timeline so that I have a daughter, I’m so glad this right wing incel fascist rewrote reality so that women are wives and mothers because that means I am a mother to my daughter

Sammy's Anti-Baptism

God is not going to save you.
One of my favorite parts of Sinners (and there are many) is the focus on how Christianity has been used to rip away culture from groups throughout history.
Sammy lives on a plantation, in a house so small his siblings sleep shoulder to shoulder on the floor. But what is the big white pristine building? The church.
The church was a huge part in colonizing black folks and it was immensely effective. The number of people on TikTok saying the movie was too "spiritually unclean" and they had to walk out... accidentally validating one of the massive points of the movie. If you can Christianize someone, you can erase their ancestral knowledge/power.

Annie never forgot that knowledge. She talks of haints and vampires with knowledge that only comes from generations passing down information. She makes mojo bags for the twins, and sells her wares, serving those in her community. Annie preserves ancestral knowledge and magic, which gives them a fighting chance when they realize something is wrong.
Since the beginning of the film, Sammy has been told that his guitar is in direct conflict with the church, that it will call upon the devil, and that he's asking for trouble. In reality, the guitar and his gifts don't call upon the devil; they call upon the spirit of his ancestors. Again, the church is directly in conflict with ancestral magic/knowledge.

At the very end, Sammy thinks he's about to die in the lake. He starts reciting prayers, only for Remmick to speak them in unison. He then says "The people who took everything from us spoke those words too." Touching upon the cultural erasure that the Romans enacted onto the Irish people. It's low key a "ah, they got you too?"
What saves Sammy's life? Not god. Not his prayers. His guitar. The silver they knew to use because of Annie. Because she didn't let the church erase the powerful knowledge in her lineage.
When he goes home, his father, the pastor demands, "let go of the guitar, give over to god."
He never lets go of his guitar.
Sammy knows. God is not where power lies. The gifts bestowed upon him is where true power is. And that is within him.
(P.S. The vampires chanting in the dark "love and fellowship" gave "thoughts and prayers" vibes.)

I don't know but, what if we really assume that Mallory and Lawrence are brothers (plz this is such an interesting hc), by doing so we can graft Conclave into the 007 universe.
Then, by acknowledging the existing headcanon where Q is the secret 4th brothers in the Holmes family, we can then blend Conclave into... the SuperWhoLock universe.
Wow welcome back, 2010s Tumblr timeline.

It's always "I love you" and never "I've come to ask for your forgiveness. I had the temerity to tell you to examine your heart when all the time it was my own... it's shameful to be this age and still not know yourself."

Interesting to know that while Conrad is Ableist and Sexist and Homophobic, he doesn't seem to be Racist.
