Welcome Luke and Leia to the family.
As much as I love having a farm way out in the country I hate this about it the most... When people abandon animals instead of being responsible with their pets. It happens far too often.
Earlier this week someone decided to toss a box in the driveway. Inside were these two little ones. We hadn't had any intention of adding more cats to the family as we already had two senior cats age 14 and 18.
We brought them in, fed them, gave them a thorough check over and a (couple at this point with dawn dish soap) flea bath. Aside from fleas and being very hungry they were in really good health. We called every shelter within a 50 mile radius and absolutely no one had any room to take them in.
We contacted friends and family to see if they were interested but were met with the same result. Fortunately we were in a position to keep them even if it hadn't been planned.
Now we are just waiting a few more weeks for them to be old enough to get their first shots, chipped and then eventually to get fixed.
Be sure to get your pets spayed and neutered. If you can't afford it, check with your local assistance programs. I have yet to hear of a place that does not have vouchers or programs for getting your pets fixed for an extremely reduced fee or even free if you are low income. If you are unable to further care for your pet be responsible about finding them a new home, not everyone is going to be able to take them in.

I love you pre-Autumn. I love you first chilly night after a hot day. I love you first crunchy leaves on the ground while the trees are still green. I love cicadas. I love you crickets. I love you dusk sneaking in earlier for the first time. I love you deep sigh of relief after summer.

Finally doing my wrap up for June. Lots of retellings and good ones at that. Need to get a copy of #Kaikeyi as it was easily my favorite read last month. How'd your June reading go?

Happy Sock Sunday! How long has it been since I've done one of these? It may be July but I am ready for fall and harvest season.
Planning on getting lots of plush pattern pieces cut out today. What are you're plans?

Stack of shame 😥
I've been going through my Goodreads and doing my best to try and knock off at least one veteran for every couple newer books on my TBR. Shamefully these amazing titles are sitting in the earliest places. What makes it worse is that I have all the books in these series up to their current releases.
Have you read any of these? Whats the oldest title on your stack of shame?

After many recommendations #theatlissix has found its way onto my April #TBR
I took a week vacation and it's been so refreshing. Ive knocked several of the oldest books off my TBR list. Redid the bookshelves in the front room. Spent a day with my friend sorting flowers for flower crowns and coming up with patterns for this year's toys, masks and costumes for our Clayshire renfest booth. I even put on makeup a couple times this week for the first time in ages.
That aside, hope everyone is doing well. What are your reading plans for April?

Thanks to the crazy weather (1/2 in of ice and 3 in of ❄️so far with more on the way) I have an unexpected 4 days off. With the animals safe and sheltered up with plenty of feed, water and bedding I can hunker down and catch up on reading and sewing. Only question is what do I pick?
Hope y'all are staying safe and warm. What are you reading?

It's a snowy morning on the homestead. Got the run cleared of snow for the chickens. Then made blueberry muffins with the help of my sourdough starter.
Now that my audiobook hold has come in for this gorgeous #bookishbox edition of #kingdomofthecursed I'm going to work on getting some quilts finished up today.
What are your plans for today?

New name, same love for books and something more.....       Happy 2022! Are you setting a reading challenge? Trying something new? Planning to participate in any Read-A-Thons? We made it another year. If you've been with me a while you know last year was a lot. I took some time off social media to deal with the loss of my mother, my mother in laws cancer battle, the work on our farm, and lots of other things. It seemed every time I tried to fo anything I just didn't have the inspiration. I thought perhaps its time to look at incorporating some more of me into what I put out there.        I will still be talking books as that is a love that has never diminished. I'm also going to start sharing a look into the cooking, farming, crafting, plants and poultry raising/rescues that we do here. Hope to see you all around. And may 2022 be the start of something amazing for all of you. #happynewyear #tryingnewthings #books #reading #homesteading https://www.instagram.com/the_homestead_reader/p/CYMsDoBr5PZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Garbage collectors in the Turkish capital have opened a public library comprised entirely of books once destined for the landfills.
The library, located in the Çankaya district of Ankara, was founded after sanitation workers started collecting discarded books. For months, the garbage men gathered forsaken books. As word of the collection spread, residents also began donating books directly. Initially, the books were only for employees and their families to borrow. But as the collection grew and interest spread throughout the community, the library was eventually opened to the public in September of last year.
“On one hand, there were those who were leaving these books on the streets. On the other hand others were looking for these books.”
Today, the library has over 6,000 books ranging from literature to nonfiction. There is also a popular kid’s section with comic books and an entire section for scientific research. Books in English and French are also available for bilingual visitors. The collection grew so large the library now loans the salvaged books to schools, educational programs, and even prisons. Village schoolteachers from all over Turkey are requesting books. The library is often filled with children of municipal employees and students from nearby schools. There is also a lounge area for readers and chess boards for visitors.

Happy #bookbirthday to #sevenendlessforests by @apriltucholke ! . . Seven Endless Forests falls in the same vein of The Boneless Mercies, giving us a lyrical spin on a classic story. In this book Tucholke tackles King Arthur’s rise to the throne with a feminine but no less lethal twist. . . There’s are two sayings that kept coming to mind while reading: Hero’s rarely find their happy endings and its hard for a good man to be king. You can see both of these play out throughout the story. I love the atmosphere and the tones that these books give. This title (along with the Boneless Mercies) are perfect examples of campfire tales. Those stories that people tell of their ancestors around a fire when its time to settle in at night. . . You follow Torvi on a harrowing adventure to reclaim home, family and freedom. Having to make hard choices that will lead the world to better or let it succumb to the flame and wolves of the priest Uther. . . With her band of troubled yet endearing misfits you meet up with witches, assassins, bards, traverse tree top villages, cursed towers and hidden kingdoms. Tragic pasts, humorous banter, and relatable characters, Seven Endless Forests is a must read for Fantasy fans. . . *E-ARC kindly provided by Macmillian via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. .............................................................................#bookreview #newrelease #bookaholic #bookstamums #anticipatedreads #bookphotography #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #igbooks #bookstagramcommunity #igbooks #bookhoarder #booksbooksbooks #bookreader #bookblogger #bookish #bookworm #ilovebooks #ilovereading #booksandflowers https://www.instagram.com/p/B_icq-jgYFQ/?igshid=8nnea2qzzv3o

Finally got around to reading this after getting it for holiday.
Tumblr media
There was no reason this book should have left me feeling underwhelmed...but it did. It feels like you’ve not gotten anywhere when you finally close the book. There’s set up for a few different possible story lines and I think the fuller scale of it is what left it feeling so flat. Like you’ve landed more in the middle of a story then at its beginning. The atmosphere and attention to scenic detail were lovely. Really enjoyed that aspect. The magic system is clean and easy to understand. I just wish there was a bit more oomph leading up to what I feel is going to be a major lesson in the abuse of power and cruelty without thinking of it repercussions.
Im still curious to see where the next book goes. It will be a library grab first though. ............................................................................... #ninthhouse #leighbardugo #bookaholic #bookstamums #anticipatedreads #bookphotography #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #igbooks #bookstagramcommunity #igbooks #bookhoarder #booksbooksbooks #bookreader #bookblogger #bookish #bookworm #ilovebooks #ilovereading #booksandflowers

Dont know about the rest of y'all but the state of things have had me in a major funk. Ive been doing my best to keep positive and thankfully theres been quite a few releases that make for great distractions. Here is one of my favorite recent reads. If you would like my full review head on over to my GR page. “All is fair in love and war.” Whoever came up with that idea never met Lady Violet Grey and Lord John Audley To Have and To Hoax is a hysterically entertaining historical Rom-Com that proves that while the course of true love never did run smooth, it makes for one hell of ride. ............................................................................... #bookaholic #bookstacks #bookstamums #anticipatedreads #bookphotography #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #igbooks #bookstagramcommunity #igbooks #bookhoarder #booksbooksbooks #bookreader #bookblogger #bookish #bookworm #ilovebooks #ilovereading #booksandflowers https://www.instagram.com/p/B_DTToOF2Og/?igshid=1n0zs7esv6hps

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these turbulent times. Its been chaos for us on the homestead and seriously cutting into my physical reading time. Thankfully between them and my #libbyapp from the library I've been able to listen to audiobooks while restocking our dehydrated and canned goods. For those looking for extra entertainment of th their own, @scribd is opening access to their fantastic library for the next 30 days. I've been a subscriber for quite some time now and can attest to the epic collection that they have. Thank you #scribd for helping out! #wellgetthroughthis #staysafe #staythefuckhome #read #audiobooks #Bookstagramer #ilovereading https://www.instagram.com/p/B942tN_Arzx/?igshid=1bjxwcflnxsc
