Showing yourself to the world, and hoping someone else understands." Babel by R. F. Kuang I had high hopes for Babel and thankfully it didn't disappoint. This is the first book that I read from R. F. Kuang and I loved her writing style. The book has the vibe of dark academia and grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance and the use of translation as a tool of empire. The characters of the book were done really well and I especially liked our main character Robin Swift, who has an excellent character development. The three supporting characters were really good as well and I loved the friendship dynamics between the four of them. The book takes place in our world but adding the magic of silver-working makes it unique. Finally, the research that the author has done shows in every aspect of the book. Happy #socksunday 💜 B•O•O•K▪︎ R•E•V•I•E•W #aurorarising Rating: DNF (chapter 6) I was given fair warning by @thebookprescription about this book. But I've been on a sci-fi kick and LOVED Illuminae. So I wanted to give this one a try. To be fair, the premise sounded like it would be up my alley and I DID walk into it without any expectations. Kudos @thebookprescription for seeing it through till the end, cause quite frankly, I got tired of hearing about Tyler's dimples, killer smile, how hot he was and his scar on his right eyebrow. I lasted 6 chapters and could have sworn the story was titled Captain Hotness & his dimples. Seriously, there was not one chapter that didn't mention them. Or his good looks. Or his tousled hair. This could have been a great story, cause it was moving quite nicely with Auri, but it was those stupid dimples! They were annoying..like Steve Urkle level of annoying! Still wanna read this one? Mini May Book Haul 🌹 Can you believe in a few days it’s going to be June!!! Like holy crap the year is half over. I e been really good at not buying a ton of books, I only want to buy the ones I know I’m going to love. So authors I already like, or recommendations from reviewers with similar reading taste. In May I bought 4 books, one hasn’t arrived yet so I’ll count that towards my June haul. ☁️ Books Bought ☁️ Whit Hot Kiss: JLA is one of my favourite authors and I want to own all her books. This is one I haven’t read yet. I want to pick it up sometime this summer. Flock: I needed to have a physical copy of this one. Huge book haul... Got around to collecting up and putting away all the books I received from birthday/holiday hauls.
