oh by the way, since I guess people haven't heard? don't fucking get on a plane in the US right now (may 5, 2025) if you can help it. a ton of air traffic controllers have walked off the job. it's a nightmare, flights are getting cancelled and diverted. i know two different people who were just left in the wrong state. and this is also prime conditions for another crash. stay on the ground right now.

tumblr is such a different animal than other social media platforms for so many reasons obviously but one thing i really find funny about it is how on other sites if i see something that doesn't interest me i don't follow or don't like the post. but on here if someone i follow starts posting exclusively about something really niche that i have no interest in my reaction is never to unfollow. its just part of the natural environment. like oh mutual is now really into pro wrestling? ok i guess ill be seeing these guys around now

it's not just the end result that's made me feel heartened about the state of australian politics today.

i volunteered at a polling booth, handing out how-to-vote cards for the greens, and the whole experience was so chill. there were other volunteers there from labor and liberal, and we all stood next to each other and had a perfectly pleasant chat, and we all offered our wares to the people in line, who would either gratefully accept or graciously decline according to the party/ies that interested them.

absolutely no one had a go at anyone. i didn't even get so much as a dirty look -- none of us did.

i am so, so happy that we can just be fucking Normal about elections and politics and parties here.

this is democracy manifest!
