It is the height of irony that women are valued for our looks, encouraged to make ourselves beautiful and ornamental, and are then derided as shallow and vain for doing so.

I'm assuming this is just supposed to be humorous, but I thought I'd answer it anyway.
For those of us into humiliation and degradation, it's usually not something you enter into lightly. Much like pain play- you discuss what you like, and don't like, and many will give limits on what they will and won't tolerate.
If an accident is made somewhere along the line, again, just like with pain play, I would expect the top-type person to be sympathetic and comforting and reassure the bottom-type person.
Okay what if two people are bang-a-langin’ (yes I just said that, move along) and one of them wants to be degraded and shit because that’s a thing some people are into
But like
The person doing the degrading doesn’t really understand the boundaries and overshoots
“Your parents are disappointed in you and think your time in art school was a waste”
“You can’t pull off your favourite dress at all”
“You should probably brush your teeth more”
“You keep making this weird face when youre into it and it makes you look like Jeff Garlin”
“Hey can you introduce me to your friend Sandra”
“You smell like pot roast and it’s really throwing me off”

Like most women, I currently live in a society where violence, harassment and scary shit can break out at any moment, just because I told some random asshole “no” without bothering to be nice about it. Doing that is so dangerous that most women don’t dare; after a few scary incidents, they learn to make up excuses, to smile, to be sweet and welcoming, to act as if every single random asshole on the street is a precious new friend that they would just LOVE to stand outside of the Chipotle and chat with FOR HOURS, if only cruel fate had not intervened. That’s what it’s actually like, being a woman: Playing nice with every random asshole, because this random asshole might be the one who hurts you. And then, if he hurts you anyway, they’ll tell you that you led him on.

Thank God for men like your husband. Now if only males in the gaming industry would actually pay attention to what he's said and take action. On a side note, you have a cat with bacon taped to it on your blog. I am now obligated to follow.
Thanks :-) And we will see. We do our best working on the gamers we personally interact with- but it's hard to make progress in such a sexist society. But both of us plan on doing all we can.
And we can only hope that more cat-bacon and other related photos will surface in the dawning of this new age.

philosophucked replied to your post: Your hubby did the story about sexism in magic eh? After I talk to the Wizards Play rep for my district I think I’d like to talk to him as well (about a local judge who has sexually harassed almost every woman player he’s come across).
oh shit that’s your man? lol nice!
Yep. All of my feminism-ing around Him got Him learning/interested to the point He decided to write about it. :-P

Yes, that He did. I'm sure He'd be happy to chat. Whenever you want, you can send me a DM on Twitter and I can put Him in touch with you, if you'd like.
Also, that's really horrible (though not surprising) to hear about. Glad you're trying to help.

Seems like moving, going on a trip to Puerto Rico, and planning our wedding has kept me pretty busy lately.
Also trying to figure out things to do in the new city (the SF Bay Area). I'm hoping I can meet some cool social justice and feminist people to hang around with, not to mention other nerd/gamer types like myself.
And SF is full of kinky folk, so that part shouldn't be a problem.

Congressional GOP wants to take Personhood Amendment Nationwide
So, apparently the terribad idea that is being proposed in Mississippi today is now being held up as a shining example of what the GOP wants to accomplish nationwide!
Spoiler alert: It's a bunch of woman-hating garbage. It attempts to grant the full rights of a person to a fertilized egg, which doesn't make sense for so many reasons. Not the least of which are (1) criminalization of miscarriages and (2) the outlawing of birth control.
From Mother Jones:
Sixty-three House Republicans, or over a quarter of the GOP conference, are cosponsors of HR 212, Rep. Paul Broun's (R-Ga.) "Sanctity of Human Life Act," which includes language that directly parallels that of the Mississippi personhood amendment.
Yes, you read that right. Over 1/4 of the GOP members don't just support it, but are COSPONSORS. So imagine how many members actually support it.
Polls show the Mississippi personhood bill stands a good chance of passing. "These are the kind of measures, whether state or federal, that would end up at the Supreme Court eventually," Rosenbaum says. "I assume that's the next step."
Ugh.
Reminder: Today is voting day in the U.S.- if you live in Mississippi (or anywhere else in the US!) get out and vote!
