Can we expect an update to The Exceptionals soon?

Ohboy 😅 First of all, thank you for asking! I want to apologise for how long it’s been since the last update, as a lot of life stuff has been happening for both me and Alpha, and we’ve had to hiatus the fic for some time. That being said, we absolutely do not plan on abandoning this fic completely. I unfortunately can’t give you any sort of estimate on when the next update will be, but no matter how long it takes, there will be one eventually!

A huge thank you to those who’ve read and stuck with The Exceptionals so far. The fact that we started our daft little idea back then, and I’m still hearing of people wanting more of it SEVEN YEARS later despite the hiatus, is incredible.

We’re so sorry for the wait, but eventually the Mysteria will fly again.

Christ, has it been a while!

Here’s Hannah just popping in to first of all say a belated happy 4th anniversary of me and Alpha starting work on this fic! I was pretty ill for this past week so didn’t get the chance to really post about it on the day. It’s so weird to think about just how long we’ve been working together on this, and we couldn’t be more happy and grateful that this little fan work brought us closer together as friends than anything else.

Adding to that, we’re a little slowed down in terms of writing speed at the moment because, like many, the pandemic and life in general have been making it a little hard to keep up the usual pace of productivity. It’s been particularly weird having no access to our most common work/brainstorming environment (our regular local comics club meetups) to keep the right mindset. Also we both have some separate projects going on, particularly Alpha who’s working on an amazing original story so scheduling is going a bit bonkers at the moment! That being said, neither of us plan on putting this down for good any time soon and we’re determined to keep the Mysteria flying, so just please bear with us in these weird times and don’t forget to keep posting reviews on the fic or sending us your asks/submissions here if you’d like to show support!

I’m currently putting together some plans at the moment for more future livestream readings over tiktok, Instagram and the like if anyone is interested, and have a fun little idea or two for additional content to put on this blog if I can find the time. Wish us luck!

Been getting more used to digital drawing over lockdown, and the amount of times I’ve drawn this cutie! Clare is so much fun to draw because she can be put in different adorable outfits, and the whole vibe she gives off to me is just so “Could in fact kill you but is a cinnamon roll”.

So among all the folks I’ve been talking to lately who do cool art/fanfic to do with Daleks, especially the Cult of Skaro, a ridiculous amount are all Dalek Sec stans and we keep just coming across more of each other! 3 Year Anniversary!

Well folks, it’s been THREE YEARS since we first started posting The Exceptionals and we just put up chapter 25 last night! Can’t believe how long this has been going and how we’ve still got much further to go. This project means a lot to us for various reasons, and it’s so heartwarming any time we get to talk to folks who’ve read our work!

As a little celebratory bonus a mini chapter will be going up (as soon as it’s done) which is a throwback to a much earlier point in the story, because I never got it out of my head so why not 😆 hope you enjoy the little comedic break!

ALSO due to all the lockdown stuff going on, what do people think of scheduled live readings and discussions of the fic by its writers? Plus Doctor Who discussions in general. Let us know via this post if that sounds like a good idea and you may see some getting planned!

Christ it’s been a while since I could post relevant art! Random daft thing I spent way too long on but here, have our good ol’ terrible boi Disanon dressed as White Diamond!

The two share some vibes and a lot of ideals I think, and both think they’re pretty damn perfect. I just had to put him in that big flouncy outfit with an elaborate headdress (inspired by one White Diamond cosplayer I spotted online ages ago).

Not massively sure on the proportions for this sketch but then again it’s fine 😆 just a sketch and he’s not human.

It may be past 1am over here (whoops) but it’s still the 2nd of February somewhere!

Ladies and gents, three years ago shortly after one of their birthdays, two besties agreed to meet up in Waterstones dressed all nerdy, grab some lunch, and plan out maybe 3/4 of the entire basic plotline of The Exceptionals. We created and named characters, gave them goals and planned where they’d come in, broke down the whole first act into chunks and some of those chunks into chapters, and then we started planning those very first chapters. Now it’s weird to think the chapter number we’re working on MATCHES OUR AGE!

And then we joined in the Harry Potter nerds with their quiz night, dressed like renegade Time Lords.

Honestly I still look back at that day and think it was so brilliant. Personally I’d been feeling low and put off writing, especially fanfiction, but then Alpha started coming up with this idea with me and it went somewhere so fast that I was HYPED.

We may not have the official fic anniversary for another couple of months, but this date marks the day when Alpha and I grew a million times closer together as friends and I gained back my love of both Doctor Who and writing.

Also while I did acknowledge this on time irl, HAPPY BELATED 25th BIRTHDAY ALPHA! 🥳 Best writer and friend ever.

While we wait on more Exceptionals stuff, I’ve ended up getting my Dalek Sec “puppet” cosplay back out to use for a certain RP acting plot on tiktok... then decided to sketch out this frame from one of the not yet posted videos. Rather proud of this, I’m not normally good at or fond of drawing myself! Let alone with that ridiculously curly wig on.

does The Mysteria have official art? 👀 (not to push you or anything, just curious)

Oohgosh we’re working on it :D See when we first started coming up with details about the ship we had to sit and map out approximate size and shape, but as the team’s artist I’ve never actually drawn proper spacecraft before and it got a little… intimidating o_o’ there was a time I couldn’t draw a car let alone this thing.

That being said I’m just aiming to do some more research and practice before a proper sketch or two get released! Artwork right now is a little few and far between for one of three reasons: I’m super busy with other work/life, I haven’t figured out how to draw the thing yet, or the thing hasn’t been shown in-fic yet and would be a spoiler. Can’t wait to post more! :D-HH

Happy New Year, folks! Aaaand happy birthday tomorrow for me, I guess 😆

We’re currently working on the next fic chapter and I’m attempting to put some time aside to catch up on art in general! Been trying really hard lately to improve my skills and style, so while it’s postponed some posting I hope it’ll mean stuff looks a bit better overall.
