Rosebud
Not all flowers have to be in colour. Did a quick sketch of a rose 🥀
Used the Manero pencil brushes and one of my many flower photos as a reference.

Ocean Surf
Started February with a shorter tutorial to warm up a bit. Did one of James Julier’s older videos, Beach Sea Waves. A pretty sunny day at the beach under a blue sky 🌊😊

Time for a Timballo and Carbs!
The other month I decided it was time to try my hand at a timballo. It is a very, very heavy dish, you don’t need anything else afterwards! Fortunately, we had guests to share it with.
Note to self for next time: while I didn’t reduce the ragù down as much as usual, I should keep it more “liquid” otherwise it can dry out when mixed with the pasta. And of course, more mozzarella, can’t go wrong with more cheese.

Cool Guy in Sunglasses
Well, trying to look cool? 😊 back to practicing people. Found a random picture to use as a reference and back to the Manero Pencils.
Still working on my proportions and I’ll have to eventually try for actual eyes, but for now sunglasses it is. 😊

A Pretty Pansy
Was looking for subjects to practice on and thought, flowers are always good. Practicing some virtual oils with a purple pansy.

Morning Cappuccino ☕️
My habit of taking pictures of my meals came in handy and finally got some use 😊. Used a picture of my morning cappuccino as a reference for this pencil drawing.
Used the Manero pencils and textures, experimented a bit with a darker “paper” feel.

Orange Tiger Lily Flower
A little more practice with the Manero pastel brushes. Flowers are always a good subject, I used a picture of a tiger lily I took on a summer’s walk.
I think I came decently close 🌼 😊
My reference picture:

Sunset at Sea 2
Wanted to continue playing around with the new pastels, and ended up redoing my Sunset at Sea with the new brushes.
Not sure if there’s really a better, more of slight differences. I think for quick things the Bardot are great, while with Manero I’m still memorizing the texture and canvas layers settings 😊
Used a photo I took and the Ittai Manero Pastel brushes. (Can scroll down for the Bardot pastels version 😊.)

Le Nozze di Figaro
Since discovering them last year I’ve tried to keep an eye out for any new productions from our local lyric society. A couple of months ago they did Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart.
Of course they don’t have the budget for big sets, but they did a nice job with a very minimal set and piano accompaniment. It’s a good way to spend a winter afternoon enjoying good music 🎼 🎵

New Brush Test - Pear 🍐
I actually received a brush bundle for Christmas, I tested the oils first and then had a go at the pastels. Stayed with the fruit theme and did a classic pear 🍐 to test out the Ittai Manero Pastel brushes.
I like my pear, compared to last year’s pears, I think I have improved and it’s not just the new brushes 😊

More New Brush Tests - Apple 🍎
After trying out the cool 3D frame canvas, tried the regular style canvas and textures from the Manero’s Thick Paint set. Chose a classic apple still life for my practice oil painting. I’m actually rather proud of this one. Considering the last time I dabbled in oils (one time and not very good) this came out nice! 😊
A red apple 🍎 in digital oils.

New Brush and Canvas Test (Oils)
I got some new brushes for Christmas and tried them out. Received the Thick Paint set, oil paint brushes, from Ittai Manero. They also came with various canvases and textures.
This is his 3D canvas. Really cool, not sure how he did it, but you can rotate it and it looks like a framed painting 🖼️
I drew a quick cherry blossom tree to test out the brushes part.

I Wear my Sunglasses at Night
I guess, eventually one should face their fears. Mine are people. I used to be able to draw them well, now I’m so out of practice that I’ve been avoiding them. Decided to just go for it even if it’s not perfect, although I gave myself a little out by avoiding the eyes with a model wearing sunglasses. He’s probably some sunglasses model 😊
On the one hand, not as bad as I was expecting, still, he’s a little…..flat/soulless maybe?? Need to just practice more.
Used my Manero Pencil brushes and paper texture with a random image from google as a reference.

Above the Clouds
