To Have a Purpose
Anyone can write, but to write with purpose is a whole other story. BeOdd Fatty is a blog that uplifts and pushes body-positivity.  This is a blog that addresses issues within the plus-size community that people would rather sweep under the rug. This blog is about a carefree Black girl exploring different ways to style her body, and encouraging other fat girls to do the same despite what people

To be A Big Girl in a "Small" World
To be A Big Girl in a “Small” World
Chanel Wiley has been one of my best friends since senior year of high school, more specifically in Urban Alliance Chicago (WHOP CLASS 2014). I am a firm believer in keeping people around if they have built you up or built up with you. She has done both. But I’d like to think that because we are both fatties, we connected on a deeper level. This is her feature on being a big girl in a small

Is Being Fat and Black in Fashion / Beauty Just a Phase?
Is Being Fat and Black in Fashion / Beauty Just a Phase?
I recently read the Glamour online article called The Rise of the Plus-Size Face, and I have to say the author made some great points. However, I find that many brands are falling into a fad of Fat representation. I mean yes, that’s great we need representation, but authentic representation. And I have a feeling that this isn’t going to last. The author explains how Sephora and Ulta brands are

I had the time to visit the ILAVA pop-up shop event at The Silver Umbrella on Sunday. I have a bunch to say, so let’s just jump into it:
ILAVA is a socially responsible clothing brand that uses fashion to empower women and inspire change around the world, specifically Tanzania. They offer four lifestyle product categories: fashion, jewelry, handmade cards, and home decor. The name of the brand is inspired by the ILAVA women from Tanzania. When a person purchases a product, some proceeds go back to the women in Tanzania for school uniforms and creating jobs.
ILAVA’s clothes are beautiful. The picture above shows the various African patterns that she uses to create her clothing for women. I saw two dresses that I liked to buy for graduation and they were flawlessly constructed. The designer knows how to tailor very well to the female body. I didn’t know that she also created accessories in her collection but I think they stole the show. They were meticulously beaded and far from ordinary with the color ranges and lengths.
However, the largest size she makes are a size 14 and a couple of items are in a size 16. Since her clothes are so tailored, a woman would have to either be a size 12/13 to get in a 14 or the perfect 14 all around her body. She does have jackets that are one size fit all and they are beautiful as well, but I wanted rarely are going to look at her brand for jackets. A plus size women would appreciate her jackets because they are truly one size fits all, they run large and it doesn’t have sleeves for women who have bigger arms.
Her jewelry starts at $10, and her clothing prices are on the expensive side starting from $45 belts.
©ILAVA
©ILAVA
Would I buy: Yes and No. I would not buy her tops, dresses, or bottoms because she only creates up to a size 14/16. I would buy the jackets and her accessories because they are a one size fits all, they look beautiful on melanin, and they are uncommon from regular fat fashion.
Thanks for listening Fattys!

Adventures of Fatty Acid: Bronner Bro Show (Final Memories of my Uncle)
Adventures of Fatty Acid: Bronner Bro Show (Final Memories of my Uncle)
Tumblr media
I’ve had the blessing to finally go to the Bronner Brother International Hair Show this past August in Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve kept it quite hush because I don’t believe in reviewing an event while I’m at the actual event (because you won’t truly experience it), or to review right after the event (because I just need a moment to take it in). We (my parents,my sister and I) stayed with my auntie

Finding Your Style through Other Outlets

We’ll if you’re a fatty like me you give up either after 10 minutes or scrolling or after page 3 on the website. I get bored easily, so I found other ways to find

The Fat Lingerie Dilemma: Big Company Intimates vs. What We Want
The Fat Lingerie Dilemma: Big Company Intimates vs. What We Want
Let’s talk about the part of fat fashion that almost no one likes to address: lingerie. It’s something about picturing a full figured woman in lingerie that makes people reaction one of two ways: either they cringe at the thought of it, or they appreciate it and smile. Either way, I’m talking about it today. So, Let’s get into it. Me trying to gather my life while reading the first articles
