New Dice Wiki – Help Needed!

Following the bankruptcy and closure of Shapeways, one of the dice community members, Adeline, has opened a new Dice Wiki to document valuable information about the vast variety of self-designed dice shapes that are out there.

The Wiki has in the meantime been expanded to include information about all kinds of commercially available dice and dice brands, and it’s grown into a community project that we’d like to fill with as much information as possible.

The Wiki is hosted on Miraheze, a free to use, open-source and ad-free Wiki hosting service at dice.miraheze.org.

To make the Dice Wiki as rich and informative as possible, we need the community’s knowledge and expertise! In particular, it would be great if we could find more people who can help with:

Filling the unclaimed pages for listed dice brands with information (those with red links).

Editing or expanding existing pages to improve their quality and accuracy.

Uploading and adding photos that are missing. (These need to be your own photos or photos you have explicit written permission to use.)

Reaching out to brands or shops to ask for written permission to use their shop photography to upload into the Wiki.

While the Dice Wiki can be edited anonymously, it might be best to register with an account so you can be officially added to the Wiki team of writers. You will also need to follow the Wiki guidelines and policies and adhere to the fair use and Creative Commons principles. We have a Dice Wiki User Guide that gives you the basics.

We have a progress tracker in Google Sheets where you can check which sections still need work or who is working on what, e.g. in the Dice Brands tab. There’s also a Template Texts tab with template code text if you want to create new pages or upload shop logos (which would fall under the “fair use” principle).

Please note that the Dice Wiki is meant to be an informational database and not a promotional platform for commercial businesses. It is not meant to be a list of online dice sellers but should stay limited to factual information about brands and creators who design, create or manufacture dice that are unique or exclusive to them. Promotional content will be deleted.

The existing Dice Discord server has a channel dedicated to the Wiki work. Feel free to join if you'd like to hep with the Wiki.

I know it's been a super long time since I've posted anything or even been on Tumblr, and most of you who still follow me probably don't even watch The Good Doctor, but I'm still gonna link you this epic fanfic I've written that I'm currently posting daily until Feb 27.

It's been a labour of love, and I hope the odd fan may find it and enjoy this little treat before the show comes back from winter hiatus on Feb 28.

It’s kinda magical when favourite fandoms intertwine...

I’m so stoked that Deborah Ann Woll is gonna guest-star on Critical Role next week!! I’ve been hoping for this for months. She was awesome as kickass Barbarian Jamila on Force Grey, and her DMing on Stream of Many Eyes was fantastic.

I can’t wait to see what Deb and Matt have in store for their joint adventure with the Mighty Nein in Wildemount next week! It’s been rough with the whole Daredevil cancellation, and I’m not sure that this makes up for it, but at least it’s a bit of a band aid.

I better go catch up with this week’s CR episode!!

This is why video piracy will increase again over the next few years as more streaming services with their own proprietary content will inevitably open.

That said, if Hulu will go international *and* pick up Daredevil with the same cast and creators, I will seriously consider actually paying for it.

If various companies think that pulling their content from Netflix so they can host their own streaming service will make them sign up to theirs then they are wrong. It will just make me pirate their content again.

As a fandom dinosaur, I have to say I’m reading this with a frown on my forehead. Having grown up with communities like mailing lists and LiveJournal, where we had actual communities, where people were able to connect and discuss on platforms that were specifically made for discussion, I found and still find Tumblr utterly failing at the whole “interaction” aspect.

I can honestly say, even though I’ve been on Tumblr almost daily for years and years, I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve had meaningful conversations on this platform. The whole reblogging to talk to each other setup is clunky and I find it annoying. The PM feature is tiny and not especially useful.

Like, how do you even build or join a community on Tumblr? Just following a bunch of people with the same interest and getting a Like or the occasional reblog doesn’t feel like a community to me. Maybe I haven’t followed the right people, or haven’t interacted with the right people to get to that place, but I can honestly say that I have a 100 times stronger sense of community from the six or so months I’ve been in the Defenders Fan Fiction Discord than having followed most of the people there on Tumblr for ten times as long.

Maybe I’m too old for this. Maybe I’m not doing it right. Sure, it’s sad to see Tumblr circling the drain, but at least there’s Discord and Pillowfort and other places where we can endure and maybe even thrive. Fandom has a way of finding our own niches if we have to. We’ll manage and reconvene somewhere else, and it’ll be okay. 

Maybe it’ll be even better than Tumblr. Have hope.

Everyone loves to shit on this site but the truth is no major social media platform fosters a sense of community quite like tumblr nor does it generate such valuable conversations (amidst a lot of bullshit granted but there’s no escaping that anywhere on the internet)…….like the kinds of genuine love n connection that are created via tumblr are absolutely unique to the platform and I don’t know why or what it is and I sure as hell don’t attribute the quality to anything the staff has ever done but it doesn’t matter, there is something special about it here, an accident maybe but over its 11 years of existence it’s consistently bridged a gap between traditional text-based blogging and more recently popular photo-centric social networking that allows for more humanity & innovation than I’ve found anywhere else, and I’ll be the first to say I’m only leaving when they drag me out by my ankles and u bet your bottom dollar I’ll be kicking and screaming.

That’s what all of us at #RenewDaredevil are doing too. Our goal for the next stage of our campaign is to provide one consolidated list of actionable tasks ALL Daredevil fans can take en masse in order to make a difference. If we can help to promote your effort or idea on our platform, we would love to do that in order to narrow down our focus rather than add to the noise.

I was gonna say, hey, I wrote, like, 5 of those 164, but then I realized I only ever put them on FFN. Hmmmm.

Cause, yeah, I was kind of obsessed with that universe for a while, even though the story of the movie lacked in originality, but you gotta admit that the visuals were stunning, and the whole Na'vi culture was somehow fascinating.

Even after all these years, I still feel like it's one of the best 3D movies ever made. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a fan. The movie captivated me, and that's more than I can say for some of the films that have a gazillion fandom members.

3 favourite foods: Really hard to answer right now, because casein and histamine intolerance combined forced me to give up a lot of those things two years ago. Which sucks. Epically. Before this happened, I used to love strawberries, high quality chocolate, desserts with lots of cream, or a good medium rare steak. Now things are complicated, eating out is always a major undertaking, and food has just become something that’s more hassle than pleasure.
