june 21 - a friend of a friend's fence [dream excerpt]

i was over at a friend's get-together where we were all kind of hanging out in our own little cliques. i splintered off with this person i didn't really know but knew enough to hang around with, and we went into the backyard.

they said they wanted to get into the trampoline the long way, and in order to do that we had to jump some smaller fences set up in the larger yard, kind of like how a pasture is set up.

approaching the fence, there was a field of tiny wired caltrops on the ground, similar to a net. no clue why it was there, probably some other kind of preventative measure.

the other person hopped the fence first, and i tried to follow. however, i grabbed the chainlink wire part of the fence (which was also adorned with tiny caltrops) instead of the stronger metal frame. i lost my balance and fell backward, missing the caltrop net by a few feet

i awkwardly laughed, looked at the friend of my friend and said "well thank god i missed the fuckin caltrops!" they laughed, and i tried to climb the fence again, grabbing the metal frame this time. woke up shortly after that !

june 2nd, 2025 - basketballs and laundromats

first part's real hazy. i remember an apartment in a shoddy downtown city area. a b-plot involved a law enforcement prop: a dart shooter of some sort, incredibly red and simply designed. at some point the needle tip was replaced by cannabis, somehow.

b-plot felt partly inspired by the Netflix show "Mo." there was a laundromat, with an interior painted bright yellow all over, where a mother and her adult child were trying to reserve the fancier dryers. the son remarked that that re-drying on the basic ones "didn't do much" while he investigated a pair of boxers. Catherine Martell from Twin Peaks may have owned the laundromat, which seems fitting.

the mother and sons family showed up later, two sisters and a daughter. one sister had the dart shooter, somehow, and was also under the influence of something. she fired the needle into the base of a near wall, and the prop changed owners once again.

a close friend and i may have owned that strange loft apartment. on my own, i walked along a trail behind the complex when i saw a group of teens arguing in the distance against golden hour light. four people pestering one, with two basketballs between them.

i shouted, "y'know, it probably ain't that serious!" one pesterer responded "well, i mean it kinda is!" i apologized and continued walking.

shortly after, i saw the basketballs fly way up in the air. i had just crossed through a tunnel and thought to myself, "no fuckin way [those cleared the building]." pleasantly surprised, i saw the now-deflated balls resting on the opposing sidewalk. the street was bare, save for one old-timey vehicle that looked like it was made of Duplo bricks. i carefully crossed the street, and the car slowed to a stop before the driver and i shared an unmemorable interaction. i removed a few nails from the basketballs.

details are sparce on this one, sadly. i don't remember much of what happened between scenes
