Gonna cheat and share a couple because one of them has been sitting unfinished for three years (but hope springs infernal). Sunrise by RealTerminal & jws38 is what I'd call a corporate AU where Ruby is an engineering grad who lands her dream job at SDC, but the project's been delayed and she ends up as personal assistant to CEO Weiss Schnee instead. There's also the fact that she doesn't have anywhere to stay until she coincidentally runs into an old friend at the bar where he works and is offered a bed at his & his partner's place.

It's the fic that really got me into RWBY fanfic in general, and was also the impetus for my favorite characterization of Ruby being an engineer/maker.

In terms of something that's still being worked on, Deadline by @amarawolfe is up there. High-school AU with Ruby navigating the waters of adolescence while also dealing with the revelation that she's trans. It just got a new chapter a few days ago, and it's a very sweet story.

Zwei's gonna show up in V10 and Ruby and Yang are going to run to him, arms outstretched and tears of happy reunion in their eyes and he's gonna sprint straight past them and tackle Weiss.

I only have one AU that's actually been posted so far**, a oneshot showcasing Weiss as a put-upon mailcarrier who's drawn the eye of a trio of water nymphs who live nearby her town.

That said, my currently focused-WIP (aside from the exchange) has Ruby working with Summer in a blacksmith's shop and being visited by a certain white-haired merchant in need of forgework, and I love it so much. Can't wait to start getting it posted probably next month.

**Spirit of Competition is more of a crossover than an AU, but since noone really knows about indie visual novel Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers, folks could hypothetically treat it as an eSports AU if they wanted.

Alternate, more comedic headcanon I thought of immediately after hitting post: Penny actually knew from the start how to act human. She was uncomfortable with the dishonestly of presenting herself as a completely 'normal' biological girl, but she was under orders to keep herself under wraps, so she played up the awkward-/uncanni-ness, leaving just enough of a hint there for anyone paying attention (like Ruby) to pick up that not everything was as it might seem with her.

Question of the Week: What's your favorite headcanon(s) for your favorite character(s)?

I have two of differing degrees of somber/fun;

Less uplifting: Ruby knows that she likely could've done more good for the world as a weaponsmith/engineer/maker than as a huntress, playing a support role rather than than frontline fighter and/or directly helping improve average people's lives. She's got the skills for it, and the passion, but she grew up chasing the shadow of Summer Rose. Her early encounters with Atlas mechs might have reinforced that decision, but Pietro (and Penny, to some extent) showed her up close how much of an impact that work could have when it's done by someone with heart. Unfortunately by that point there are too many people depending on her and she is now and she's too deep into the Salem/Ozma stuff to back down. But committed as she is, it does somewhat feel like it might be the wrong path. And maybe that played a part in her mental state during V9 as well.

More Uplifting: Ruby's early enthusiasm as the team's leader was somewhat dampened by the fact that she believed she had to be the one taking point on EVERYTHING (again, she grew up with stories of Summer, and if 'Supermom' could do it all then she had to too). She could analyze strengths & weaknesses and craft strategies & direct traffic in the field (like we saw in the Nevermore fight), but in class she thought it was all on her. The 'best teammate ever' conversation with Weiss (not to mention the conflict leading up to it) made it even worse for a bit,but one of the first things Weiss did in her new resolve to support Ruby was teach her the power of delegating. Which helped cement their still-new partnership and ultimately made the pre-Vytal days at Beacon run quite a bit smoother.

Got my assignment for the @remnants-of-rwby-exchange . I'm slightly apprehensive about writing the main character being requested, but I REALLY like a few of the prompts the person asked for.

After picking up Street Fighter 6 back in December and spending all of January and February doing combo trials, bot matches, and random practice drills from youtube, I jumped online last month. It's been overall a rough go with a few bright patches, but for the past week or so I've been sitting at about a 50% winrate. And more importantly, I'm actually having A LOT of fun with it.

If the rumors are true ther may be a decent chance my character (Manon main detected) is getting buffed for season 2, so I have that to look forward to. Now at what point do I start looking for someone to commission to make some custom art for my fightstick (I jumped the gun and got one on discount before I knew how much I even jelled with the game)? And what kind of nerdy bullshit should it be?

I have tentative plans to do some Pokémon for Desert Bus this year, so I tested one of the patterns I was thinking about and this is the result.
