this scene is so personal to me it genuinely makes me DIE inside like genuinely everything about it.

from weiss's reaction and her expression and just the sheer, utter pain written all across her face as she's once again painfully reminded of what happened back in atlas, as she's once again reminded of all the things that previously went wrong.

and GOD, the look on ruby's face. poor ruby, who is also thinking about the ruins that they've left back home, who sees how horribly weiss is hurting and wishes for nothing more than to take that pain away, but can do nothing more than gently lead her away.

there's something about the expressions of guilt and shame and just pure hurt on both of their faces; the way you can immediately tell how weiss is very vividly remembering what happened back in V8 and how ruby is trying so so hard to NOT think about that and only focus on weiss right now and make sure that weiss is okay.

also i'm just a sucker for how soft they are with each other. ruby's hand on weiss's back and the way she's gently holding her hand and leading her away??? goodbye i am unwell you can pry them out of my cold dead hands.

Commission I just finished for @bravewriting of their AU/fic War Machines which you can read right HERE. It’s a Nuts & Dolts AU where Ruby and Penny were swapped at birth and Penny ends up on team RWBY (now team BSYP or Battleship). This scene is in Chapter 12 and is Penny coming out to her team as a robot girl

I had fun drawing this, but god damn multi person hugs are complicated. I had to color code the sketch just to keep track of all the limbs lol

A crumpled Cinder laid defeated as Jaune breathed heavily, raising Crocea Mors in victory.

Jaune: Yeah, gonna fall now...

And he was about to when he felt someone hold him up. He looked down at his savior and saw a familiar dual color hair.

Jaune: ...hey Neo..

Neo: 👋

Jaune: Thanks for catching me. uhm, you can let me down, I just need to rest a bit...

Neo: 🫡

Neo sits down on the ground and gently drags Jaune down so he can lay down, and to his surprise, Neo leads his head into her lap, Jaune wanted to protest but the feeling of Neo's hand running through his hair felt really good and the want to protest vanished as Jaune fell into a peaceful sleep just in time for Ruby and Weiss to see.

Yang: *Bored out of her skull, reading a "Teen" magazine*

Weiss: *Enjoying her simple healthy breakfast salad*

Ruby: *Enjoying her not-so-healthy breakfast cereal*

Blake: *Catching up on her "literature"*

Yang: *Perks up on reading a topic* "Just how gay are you and your partner? Take this simple test and find out!"

Weiss: Please no, I just want to finish breakfast.

Yang: *Ignoring her, turning to Blake* Wanna take this test with me, Blakey?

Blake: *Closing her book, raising a skeptical eyebrow* You do know we have no need for such a test, right?

Yang: We don't?

Blake: We don't. And I can prove it. *Puts away her book and stands up* Stand up.

Yang: *Already standing, curious* Okay...

Blake: *Walks over, standing close to Yang, their height difference evident as she looks up at the blonde* Now, on your knees.

Yang: *Wide-eyed in shock* Uhm, wha-what?!

Blake: *Touches Yang's jawline* On. Your. Knees.

Yang: *Knees buckle, thudding on the floor* Okay...

Blake: *Now looking down at the blonde, eyes bright in delight and with a wicked grin* And that, my dear girl, that is how gay you are. Understood?

Yang: *In need of clean underwear* Yes, ma'am.

Weiss: Ugh... I should go join JNPER (Jaune, Nora, Oscar, Emerald, Ren). Surely they're... normal compared to whatever these two are doing all day.

Ruby: Probably best if you didn't.

Weiss: Pray tell, why?

Ruby: Oscar, and by extension Ozpin, is mostly busy with Theodore and other high-ranking huntsfolk for whatever business is most pressing but the rest... *Slightly cringes as she weighs whether or not she should tell*

Weiss: Ruby. Tell. Me!

Ruby: *Sighs, shrugs and spills the proverbial beans* They're probably banging right about now.

Weiss: ...

Ruby: Yeah... after our return from the Ever After there was this whole thing where Ren and Nora wanted- Needed more like- to reconnect and reconcile with Jaune. Emerald was just desperate looking for a place to belong. Anyway, long story short, they're likely banging right now.

Weiss: *Thudding her head on the table* My fucking friend group is a Gods damned mess!

Ruby: I'm still traumatized from walking in on them, but you don't hear me complain. Nora's way more flexible than you'd expect.

Weiss: *Whinging into the table surface* UUUUUGH...

Vacuan Nights, Like Vacuan Days

They’re just so great together! I’d love for Jaune and Weiss to get a little downtime in Vacuo to live out a moment like this. They really deserve it, and I’d love to see Jaune’s guitar make a reappearance.

The comic here was inspired by u/Silverstar1243’s excellent piece of art, A Serenade Under the Moonlight. Send some love to them on their twitter, commission some art if you’re willing and able, they’ve made some great stuff.

You folks may have noticed I threw in a couple of references for those in the know; the Golden Oreos behind Yang (double stuffed, I might add) for the trio’s ship, Weiss liking it rough for Mallobaude’s great fic, and of course I made a whole theme around the Arabian Nights Disney song. A song, along with its Aladdin compatriots, which I spent the better part of a day finding covers for just to listen to on repeat while I worked.

This one’s now officially my longest comic project, with 14 panels, two over the past record since I added the White Knight kiss at the end. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Not sure I’d say it was more difficult than my Vanity of Vanities post, but for this one I actually knew how to use my editing software going into it (at least somewhat).

Put a lot of work into this one, been working on it on and off since February. Took a few breaks for vacation, to make my memorial post for Rooster Teeth, and another five meme edits or so, but I came back around to it. First half was pretty easy, relatively minor edits inserting characters into scenes and so on. The second half with Jaune and Weiss was tougher though, with color correcting, merging poses, redrawing features, drawing Jaune’s entire head to fix some lighting issues, etc. Really like how the edit to make Jaune strum his guitar turned out.

The time it took to make the whole comic got me down a little, until I did a bit of math. Including my side projects since starting this, all the scripting and editing and all, I’ve been pumping out a panel every two days. That seems pretty good to me, that kind of accomplishment makes me a little proud of myself.

Really need to get around to watching the second part of the Justice League Crossover movies. It’s got a few Vacuo scenes that might make things a little more authentic instead of me just using Saphron’s house and pretending it’s a suite in Vacuo. I do love taking yet more character stills from Jaune and friends experiencing deep trauma and turning it into something positive, been making that a bit of a personal habit. And I’ve got to say, the background for Jaune and Weiss’ scene is really beautiful, pulled it from when Sun and Neptune hear Ruby’s message about Salem. That’s just a really good shot all on its own, I even saved a copy for my computer’s wallpaper after editing out the two.

Posting a big RWBY White Knight edit, watching not one but two RWBY Beyond episodes, and all on the trail of the news that RWBY’s found partners that they’re negotiating with and that the creative team is expected to stay on. And I'm sipping bubble tea. Life is good.

Anyway, pardon the long write up. I’m invested in this one, and am quite pleased with how the comic turned out. I hope you all get a kick out of it as well!
