WHUMPTOBER 2025: PROMPTS LIST

Welcome to Whumptober 2025 — The Eighth Year!

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation CHALLENGE (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are four prompts for each day of the month, giving 124 for you to play with! There is also a list of 18 alternative prompts that can be subbed in for any day to give participants as much creative freedom as possible.

All prompts are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts into your work). Feel free to run rampant on interpretation. For example, if the prompt is “flame", you could create something with reference to a candle/campfire, your character could have suffered a burn, or the flame could be a reference to an ‘old flame’ - an old relationship. It’s truly down to you!

You can produce work in any media you choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, photo/video/audio edits, paper crafts and elaborate recommendation lists (not just a list of links). You can participate as much or as little as you want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

The above is a link to a strawpage with reading recommendations for 52 queer characters in DC comics. These are intro recommendations, and as such don't cover any character's entire history. It's essentially a taste test at what's out there in DC, with a focus on characters that aren't as known or talked about.

meggan puceanu has one of the most interesting concepts for a shapeshifter in that she's a roma woman who instinctually shapeshifts to blend in as a defense mechanism and keep herself safe.

and then marvel fumbled the entire concept by deciding she must stay as a blond-haired, green-eyed white lady which was a form she took solely because brian likes it. she indicates she doesn't feel comfortable in that form. but does marvel care? no. the roma woman must look white, according to marvel.

it's wild because at this point, it would actually be easier to just retcon the previous issues a bit and state khalid is like 25/26. it wouldn't bring into question how a 21 year old is a doctor. even if you were to assume the 21 wasn't meant to be taken literally, kendra is only 24, so khalid would be 23 max and that simply doesn't work timeline wise given his solo + vase time + jl dark time. i don't understand why lemire is so stuck on khalid being the second youngest after jakeem.
