“Most people don't grow up. Most people age. They find parking spaces, honor their credit cards, get married, have children, and call that maturity. What that is, is aging.” ― Maya Angelou

The best therapy can sometimes be music that you don't normally listen to. Music that just makes you feel or smile. The lyrics are a little less than desired, but the beat and the chorus >>>>. This is a song to listen to when you are working out or trying to stay awake on a long road trip. When you feel like being silly with friends and stop taking yourself so seriously. Stop being at the office when you aren't at the office! Live a little.
Just. Vibe.

Want to brighten a bad day?
The best way to feel better when you've had a bad day, or on any day at all is to help other feel better! It seems a little silly, but try it and let me know what happens! I will even give you some suggestions:
1. Compliment Someone - everyone loves to feel good about themselves! Tell someone you love their hairstyle or ask them where you can get that cool jacket they are sporting.
2. Ask someone for advice - Now of course they need to be knowledgeable about whatever you are asking them about... but you would be surprised at how many people love feeling needed or valued.
3. Treats! - Get an extra cupcake at Gigi's? or maybe smoothies at McDonald's were 2-4-1, take one to someone else. A friend or a stranger.
4. Step outside of your comfort zone - Ask someone to hang out that you usually don't spend a lot of time with. Find out if you can attend their athletic game, recital, concert, or even just a get together at their home. People love fixing broken connections.
5. Speak - Say hello to and smile at every person that you make eye contact with. You will be surprised how catching friendliness can be.

Motivation: We Get it from the Strangest Places
It seems like everyone today wants to be motivated by someone. We all want a cheerleader in our corner who says "You can do it!" when things get tough. For many of us this can be our parents, siblings, teachers, coaches, or even our friends. We need to feel a certain level of resolve from those whose opinion that we value in order to feel more confident n our decisions. The unfortunate thing about this is that most of the time our cheerleaders end up being more like our principals. They analyze our decisions, give their opinions on whether we are right or wrong, and ultimately end up causing us more confusion and fear than we felt before we talked to them.
It has taken me quite some time to understand how I have been able to function over the last 23 years without a cheerleader or a "Yes Man" (someone who always agrees with yo) to encourage me. I am a fairly indecisive person and I tend to heavily rely on the opinions of others before making big decisions. It took a long conversation with my mother this week to help e realize that my perception of myself is completely wrong.
I motivate myself! I am my own cheerleader.
Ultimately when I feel that I have a great idea, I get extremely excited and beginning developing it right away. When others disagree or try to deter me, it somehow motivates me to prove them wrong. There have been several activities I have become involved in and life changing decisions that I have made that no one was more excited about than me! Anger and and pride may not be great personality traits, but let's be realistic, most of us feel those emotions regularly. So, why not use them to our advantage and create positive results from such negative emotions.
Another interesting thing that I realized this week is that
fear can be a good thing.
Hear me out. You head into a meeting with your supervisor, he tells you that you are basically doing a horrible job, but that he is confident that you have the potential to excel in your field. After this meeting you have one of three options:
1. Go home and cry about it
2. Redeem yourself. Take the very next moment and start exceeding your boss' expectations.
3. Quit. Give Up. Accept your failure.
In my case I would write in: "4. 1&2". (Indecisiveness strikes again!) There is nothing wrong with regretting poor decisions, ideas, or performance. The problems come when you dwell on them. Fear can break you down, but it can also help to build you back up if you let it. It can act almost like an alarm clock. Not going off 24/7, but only every once in awhile to jolt you from your dreams into reality. To keep you on track towards whatever it is you are aiming for.
Depending on others to motivate you will never get you anywhere. Create your own motivation from within! The worst thing about being our age is that those emotions still control us much more than we tend to control them.
