Important Kemetic Terminology
Em Hotep, everyone. Today I will talk about some important terminology used in Kemetic circles. I may or may not do a part two at a later date, but this is just the basics for now!
Sayings
Em Hotep - means "come in peace". Very common in Kemetic circles
Anudj har - means "hail to" (e.x. anudj har Ra means "hail to Ra")
Heru nofer - means "good day"
Religious Terms
Ma'at - when not referring to the deity, refers to the fundamental order of the universe
I/s/f/e/t - the opposite of Ma'at, pure chaos. Often censored to avoid giving it power
A/p/e/p - the giant snake that opposes Ra when he travels through the Duat. His name is censored to prevent giving him the power he desires
Heka - "magic", but not as we think of it. Heka is the magic of speech, as words are often louder than actions, but are actually the same thing. Thought and deed are united in the magic of heka
The Duat - the afterlife, ruled over by Wasir. To arrive, you must travel through the twelve kingdoms/hours of the night, the same journey Ra takes every night.
Conception of the Soul - this is a longer idea, and thus I will cover it in a separate post. There are eight different parts of the soul
Khet the physical body
Sah the spiritual body
Ren the name and identity
Ba the personality
Ka the double
Ib the heart
Shut or sheut the shadow
Sekhem the power and form
Important Texts
Book of the Dead - quite possibly the most important, and also called "Book of Coming Forth by Day" or "Book of Emerging Forth into the Light", the Book of the Dead is filled with spells and rituals that were used to assist a deceased person's body on their journey into the Duat
The Coffin Texts - spells and rituals to assist a deceased into the Duat. These were written on coffins when the deceased were buried. The Coffin Texts were later copied into the Book of the Dead
The Pyramid Texts - the oldest of the funerary texts, written on the underground pyramid walls. The Pyramid Texts were used for pharaohs only, and were quite similar to the spells and rituals of the Coffin Texts and Book of the Dead
The 42 Negative Confessions - a list of "sins" (for lack of a better term) that are used during the Weighing of the Heart Ceremony.
As I said before, I will most likely do more parts explaining more important aspects of Kemetic religion. A list of what I have planned is as follows:
The 42 Negative Confessions.
A more in-depth look at the afterlife, specifically the twelve kingdoms of the night and the Weighing of the Heart ceremony.
The Conception of the Soul
A history of i/s/f/e/t and a/p/e/p
If there's anything you'd like me to cover, feel free to ask and I'll definitely do so!

Anatomy of a Spell
This post will go over what is needed for a spell to be created!
This is a page from my grimoire and by no means is this a set-in-stone situation. Take what you will and leave what you won't.
Desire or intent. This is the whole point of the spell. What is the desired outcome, what do you want to achieve from this spell?
Planning of ingredients, spell structure, time, and location. This includes the verbal or written aspect of the spell if any.
Protection, there’s really no reason not to have a safeguard on your spell in my opinion but this isn't true for everyone. Do what feels right for you.
Raising, gathering, or building energy for the spell. Energy is how you get your spell to work. This can be done by chanting, breathwork, borrowing energy, and more.
Directing energy into the spell. Self-explanatory, gotta get it in there somehow. Basically just getting the intent/desire from inside you to inside the spell so that it can work its magic (pun intended).
Release any excess energy if needed. Grounding is a good way to do this.
Clear and concise ending; this could be a phrase, word, or physical act that indicates the ending of the spell. It’s best when everyone and everything involved knows when you have ceased doing the spell.
Extras:
It’s a good idea to record your process and results of the spells you create and cast so that you have a reference for future spells; also you can figure out what went wrong or right.
I personally think it’s a good idea to put a fail-safe in a spell, I usually do this by stating it out loud: i.e. “If I take apart this spell bag then the spell will cease.” or “If I do this spell in reverse the spell will cease/reverse” and so on.
Preparing the physical and non-physical things for the spell; can mean gathering, cleansing, or preparing yourself to be in the headspace needed for the spell. It's better to be prepared than to get blindsided halfway through because you’re missing something!

FRIENDLY REMINDER FOR MY FELLOW WITCHES WITH CHRONIC PAIN!
Take a few minutes to focus on your breath, if you can. Acknowledge the pain you’re in and let yourself feel it. You don’t always have to work through it, so sit down, get some tea and menthol pain relievers, turn on your favorite show and take a break. You don’t have to practice your craft every day and that doesn’t make you any less powerful. Your deities love you, so treat yourself kindly <3
(Courtesy of my lovely girlfriend, who also has chronic pain, helping me to realize it’s not a crime to rest. I know how it feels to hate yourself for not being productive, or blaming yourself for not being as social of you could. Just know that it’s not your fault or your responsibility for how other people react to YOUR flare ups.)

Here’s an affirmation tip I’ve been using for the last few months:
While you’re going about your day, tell yourself “As I ____, I am ____”. For example, while I’m showering, I tell myself “As I cleanse myself, I gain more and more confidence”
(Personally, I say it 3 times because I believe the number 3 is intensely powerful, but you can say it as many times as you believe suits you!)
