“Are you sure you want to do this?” Jane bit her lip after hearing what her friend had been going through. She had noticed the sleepless nights of course, but there was a far bigger explanation than heartbreak.

Liv took a deep breath closing her eyes even now she tried hard not to seem nervous. She tried to act natural as she gave the silvery beings a wide birth. No one else could see them so she made it seem as if she couldn’t either.

“I don’t know how much more I can stand of this.” Liv glanced over at her friend.

“They can’t turn you down if you put in the request for leave, but I know how upset you were after the last time they benched you.”

“This time is going to be different.” Liv rubbed her temples as she passed through an energy. “I won’t be working any cases for a while. Not until I get this sorted out.”

“Diane is going to be pissed.” Jane smirked.

“Diane can shove it.”

“Where are you gonna go?” Jane already knew, but she had hoped her friend would stick around. Nothing made her feel worse than when she could be of no help.

“Home.” Another long breath. “I need to go through my grandma’s things. See if there’s a way to shut this down permanently.”

Jane chewed on her lip watching her roommate weave in and around invisible things. It was for her own good, she knew, but who knew if she’d ever be able to close that door again. And what if she never came back?
