Metal Matt: When you started writing music, did you write music to deal with problems in your life? I know many people listen to your music to deal with their own problems.

Peter: "When I first started to write songs when I was 14, I was fascinated with the psychological implications of tones, how a minor chord makes someone feel sad, or how a major chord makes someone feel happy, or how a song can have such an emotional impact on someone. Even before I was writing songs, I was sitting down hitting two or three notes at one time to see how it made me feel personally. Then, when I became a little bit better at it, would actually try to string these things together to write songs that I liked. It wasn't so much for the public or that I was trying to compete with my friends, or be like the Beatles or Black Sabbath, which are two bands that I admire very much. It was just something that I liked to do. I find it fascinating."

What car do you drive?

Peter: "A modified 1985 Grand Prix. It's half car, half truck, like something out of Mad Max. It's not very fast, but in its present shape everyone has more to lose than I do. I barrel through traffic, not paying attention to red lights, stop signs or pedestrians."

"Peter had this car - it was a Grand Prix with truck tires on it, and they didn't quite fit. They bottomed out on the wheel wells. Josh had to drive with him to rehearsal, and Josh hated getting in it in the first place. And then he had to drive home with Peter drunk. Sometimes after rehearsal, the wheels would fall off the back of the car. I'd drive by and see the car, like, 'What are they still doing here? And I'd see Peter putting the wheels back on, with Josh leaning on the hood."

Peter: "I have two interesting vehicles, the first one is a modified 85 Grand Prix that I raised up on swamp tires, 33's in the back, 31's in the front. Cut out the wheel wheels, took off the bumpers, welded on I beams with chains... took out the back seat... no dashboard, pretty much it's gas, brake, stick shift, which I put in myself... It used to be a 350 transmission but now it's... I put a tractor engine in there, and ah, woof woof. I have a PA system in there, I can yell at people. And I also have a Long Island railroad train horn, with the the compressor in my trunk. So when I hit the horn... (Peter makes train horn noise.) It's tuned to Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath, the devils triad."

JDuff: Is that's the name of the car?

Peter: "No. My car is called handsome. Whenever I do an oil change, I dump the oil all over the car. I spray painted it flat black, I put yellow caution stripes on the side."
