Science is not apolitical. Researcher bias is real and there are many instances where racist, homophobic, and misogynistic scientists have slanted data (often subconsciously) due to their worldview and bigots use this to justify their hatred. Science is an impressive tool for understanding the world but any tool can be misused and being a scientist does not automatically immunize someone against their internal biases or the prejudices that exist in their societal milieu.

If you dare come at me about banning straws, I will throw you into the sun cannon. I’m disabled, I’m crippled, I need disposable plastic straws, and all those pricey ridiculous alternatives aren’t working as well. Plastic straws were invented for the disabled.
Way to shit all over a vital access need because you think straws are worse than corporate greed.
We all care about the turtles, the seals, the oceans, obviously. Notice how the easiest thing to yell about was something that would barely affect anything but appealed heavily to emotional discourse.
The disabled community is huge, and it can be joined by anyone. Most of those As Seen On TV products were invented for us. Society still mocks us and ignores us, and often outright harms us in multiple ways.
Communicate better. Listen better. But stop putting us out in the cold because you are inconvenienced by our simplest needs.

I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:
Fictional characters are objects.
They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

Update! I've finished the lineart for the comic I'm using to mark the introduction of my DunMeshi BioSciences AU, just colouring a few panels and we're all set. The askblog is for the most part completed (I'll add the playlist later on), which I'll reveal very very soon on my blog! For now, here are some of my favourite little closeups as a sneak-peek. Truly a win for the LGBT+ community <3

Alright, to ao3's soon to be arriving Wattpad Refugees, a basic guide to general user culture:
1.) Unlike Wattpads vote system that let's you like each chapter, the ao3 equivalent kudos only allows one per work. Everyone is generally quietly annoyed about this. To engage with each chapter, you're heavily encouraged to comment. Trust me, it makes people's day.
2.) Ao3 has no algorithm. By default it's latest updated work first. You can find things to your taste through searches, filters and tags.
3.) 'No archive warnings apply' and 'user has chosen not to use archive warnings' mean two very different things. No archives warnings means the work is free from any content that could require a warning tag (character death, graphic depictions of violence, non-con, etc). User has chosen not to use archive warnings means it could contain any of the warning content, be it hasn't been explicitly tagged. Treat it like an allergen. No archive warnings apply is allergen free. User has chosen not to use archive warnings, may contain traces or whole chunks of the allergen. If you're likely to have a bad reaction, maybe don't take the risk.
4.) Speaking of warnings, ao3 has very few restrictions on the type of work that's allowed. Whatever your personal thoughts or feelings on that are, thats how the site is. You're likely to run across some dark subject matters and a lot of people are uncomfortable with reading that. You're well within your rights not like these works and have your opinion on whether they should be allowed, but harassing the authors of such works (or any works) is more likely to come back on you than them. Ao3 operates on a strong policy of 'don't like, don't read'. Use the tagging system to your full advantage to only engage with the kind of works you want to see.
We look forward to welcoming you all and seeing the fantastic works you create. Happy writing!

A little sneak-peek from my DunMeshi BioSciences AU (askblog in-progress) that made me laugh because it's a pretty good summary of what you can expect! <3
[Please do not repost, reblogging stops my hours of work from dying in your likes, lets others enjoy this too and spreads the word of this project I’m making! <3]

Good news folks!
The DunMeshi BioSciences AU askblog is officially complete! I'm happy with it so far, but would you all be interested in me opening it early before I finish the intro, or would you rather wait?

Another updated WIP of my DunMeshi BioSciences AU. This askblog is already in-progress and I will publish it just as soon as I finish this intro. A poll is up to see which endangered animal will be covered first by the party outside of this fun introduction. Can you guess what animal the boys have found this time?

DunMeshi BioSciences askblog update:
Just a stream of thought about my DunMeshi BioSciences AU (that is an in-progress askblog, keep an eye out for it's reveal!) because it's currently overtaking my brain and is all I can think about:
This askblog concept is very important to me. I'm putting a lot of time, a lot of thought and creativity into it, and it's going to be an outlet for all of my passion for the biosciences world that I'm thriving in.
Dungeon Meshi is very much a comfort series for me at the moment, and its links to biology, evolution and themes of life in death, rebirth, nurturing the careful balance of resources, as well as connectivity are all themes that I cherish about and relate to my field. With this, the characters all fit into this world seamlessly, and I'll be making the most of this in several ways:
The blog is going to heavily feature around endangered species; some known, some lesser known, and some that may surprise you. Each character is going to have their own varying careers in this AU, all interwoven and incredibly important. It'll feature many weird and wonderful animals, and I aim to bring to light ways that we can support these animals, or cover events that are happening presently within biology.
This IS going to be an askblog however, so there will be plenty of opportunities for interactions, polls to vote on, games and hopefully events. It's going to be a LOT of fun and I hope that you're looking forward to it as much as me <3

Zoologist here! Such cool detail that Falin is Saurischian! The dragon had ‘lizard-like hips.’ This represents the fact that the dragon part of her did, indeed, evolve from amphibians (specifically a type of ancient salamander), and later reptiles, which share the same lineage with birds, who actually evolved from ‘lizard-hipped’ animals and not ‘bird-hipped’ animals (Ornithischians)! That’s just so interesting! Also makes sense as to why she has feathers too.
