"The CDC has announced a new, nationwide moratorium on evictions lasting from now until the end of December. This thread will cover the details, and then some actions that DSA locals can take to ensure it is effective and that tenants are not forced out of their homes regardless.

Firstly, unlike the CARES Act moratorium, this applies to all rental properties. If any home is being rented out, it is covered by the moratorium depending on the tenant's circumstances.

Tenants must make a *self-declaration to their landlord* - it does not need to be processed to be effective.

They first must declare that they

(a) received a stimulus check, or

(b) did not have to pay tax in 2019, or

(c) expect to earn 99k or less, or 198k if filing jointly.

Second, they must declare they have lost income or incurred unexpected expenses due to the economic or medical effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Third, they must declare they are doing their best to make partial payments, taking into account other necessary expenses e.g. food.

Finally they must declare that they will become homeless or have to move into a congregated setting such as a family home, shelter, or house with roommates if they are evicted.

Once this declaration is made, they can't be evicted til 2021.

If a tenant does not make this declaration, even if it would apply to them, they can still be evicted if it would otherwise be permissible under local and state laws.

It does NOT override stricter moratoriums like that in Washington, D.C. where currently nobody can be evicted.

It also does NOT cancel rent or convert rental debt into consumer debt that tenants cannot be evicted for in future, so people who cannot pay will still have to deal with a backlog. DSA continues to believe cancelling rent is the only just solution to the COVID housing crisis.

That being said, this moratorium will only work if tenants are aware of it. Locals have the opportunity to canvass their neighbors and inform them of their new rights under the CDC moratorium, and how they can make a declaration to their landlord that can keep them in their home.

This is a reprieve, not a final victory for tenants. We must help protect tenants from eviction through education about these rights while also continuing the struggle to cancel rent and ensure that landlords, banks and the rich - not tenants - pay for this crisis.

We would also note that this means tenants in many states will have effective protection against evictions for nonpayment for the first time since the crisis began. This is an opportunity for tenants, and your DSA locals, to talk to neighbors about tenant unions and rent strikes.

We have been receiving some questions about whether this applies to no-fault evictions or merely to evictions with nonpayment as a specific cause. To be clear, this moratorium DOES NOT allow no-fault evictions (but does permit evictions for certain other causes, see screens)."

Hey um what. What goddamn business did Omashu have having a King?? Like I never really questioned it since it came from such an early Book One still-world-building episode but. Omashu is a city, for starters, and it’s a city in the Earth Kingdom. Which. You know. HAS a king. 

You know I bet, honestly, Omashu doesn’t have a king. And NEVER had a king. Omashu had a succession of Governors or some shit and on the day that Bumi took the mantle he said “Fuck this ‘Governor Bumi’ stuff that’s lame. Call me King.” and when his advisors said they can’t legally do that Bumi passed a law changing his title from Governor to King, stuck a crown on his head, and called it macaroni.

And the citizens of Omashu were probably just like “alright” cuz like. Bumi strikes me as the kind of Local Town Eccentric who has a working personal relationship with pretty much everyone so all 100,000 people of Omashu heard this decree of Kingship and went “yeah that tracks” and got on with their day.

Outside of Omashu though? Good god. That’s gotta be a fucking look. At this point 112-year-old Bumi has been ‘King’ for a lifetime longer than the actual Earth King. What a look. How much sleep do you think Long Feng loses about this??? How many assassination attempts do you think he tried to carry out, only to have the Dai Lee come crawling home with the imprint of Bumi’s face smashed into their armor and some rock candy stuffed into their socks?

Ba Sing Se adores its appearance of order and structure and hierarchy and I cannot even begin to imagine their Daily Hell of dealing with Omashu’s centenarian feast-loving candy-munching batshit unhinged and utterly unkillable pseudo-King. 

The Fire Nation taking over Omashu was probably the happiest goddamn day of Long Feng’s life.

Let yourself suck. Write things that are bad, and let them be bad. Get used to the thought that you won’t always produce greatness; perfection is the nemesis of done. If your writing is cluttered or clumsy, let it be. Keep going, let it be a mess. Write notes if you need to, but do not let your momentum slip until you are done. “Perfection” is an unachievable concept. Masterful is attainable, but to become a master you must become intimately acquainted with failure. Look at that clumsy sentence, which you meant to be elegant but came out hamfisted and blunt. Look at it again. It is not perfect, but it is there. It’s there, and even as something that does not meet your standards, it can be worked with. You can tweak it, edit it, mess with it until it works. Writing is not an easy task; it is an art borne of years of practice, years of failure, years of editing and staring at a sentence that would not have been possible three months ago and smiling, grinning as you realize that failure is an option, not because it gives you an out, but because it opens other doors, gives you other avenues to explore.

Writing is an art; let it be that way. Let it be messy, play with it, and you will see improvement. It will be slow, and there will be days when you’re convinced you’ll never improve. But I promise you, you will. It will be hard, and frustrating, but it will be worth it.

Keep going; I believe in you.

How do you write a relationship without romanticising it? In my story the two main characters are deeply in love, however not in a completely healthy relationship (one being very emotionally dependent, clingy/possessive and anxious, the other verbally abusive and somewhat manipulative). The story is about them realizing their mistakes and trying to become better people for each other ... how can i go about that? All similar stories I read are either based on shallow conflict or end in a breakup

“realizing their mistakes and trying to become better people for each other” is loving and wholesome. Pointing out the problems in the first place and not letting them define the romance is anti-romanticising.

Romanticisation is often shown as taking extremely negative things like war, immorality, alcoholism, disease, etc., and portraying it in an extremely positive and beneficial light. Addressing these problems head-on to try and fix them through compassion and understanding is not romanticisation.

In a relationship between two people, romanticising would be taking the bad aspects of the romance and making them seem like the primary reason this should be considered a romance. 

The Beast holding Belle hostage and scaring her because he’s a selfish creep with a grudge is not romantic.

The Beast improving his behavior, her standard of living, and letting her live freely outside of his control all because he genuinely loves her is romantic.

In your case, if your characters’ problems are complex and deep-seated they won’t be able to overcome them through “the power of true love” alone. They will need strong external help like therapy, family support, religion, community, etc. They can still end up happy together as long as they’re both quick to resolve problems, avoid relapses, and immediately recognize and cease their own toxic habits.

I got inspired by a bunch of role reversal AUs here on the toombles, ended up getting one stuck in my head. Melissa is a retired hunter and has been trying to keep Scott out of the supernatural, Allison gets bitten by Peter, Lydia’s the human/potential emissary (I CAN DREAM OKAY), both Derek and Cora are lurking around but Cora becomes the Alpha instead.

I was trying to figure out what to do with Stiles, since he’d end up switching places with Lydia, and I ended up making him a Drekavac, these spirits in Slavic folklore. There’s a lot of differing lore on what they look like, but I went with the version where they can look like human children (teenager/general human, whatever, in Stiles’ case) and can take the form of a fox. Their cries are omens of death, but depending on what form you’re hearing, it means two different things: human cry is for human death, fox cry is for animal death. (ﾉ´ヮ´)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
