I hate random encounters!
It’s been so busy at work today I had to practically wedding-march my way into the break room because I was stopped to answer a question at literally every single steP

So usually I write music by pencilling in MIDI data by hand, but this piece was written solely in notation software. In other words, I wrote this using a lot more MUSIC THEORIEZ than is typical for me. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
Next piece in development will be another piano thingy, written entirely on an actual piano.

So I played Amneisa: A Machine for Pigs this past week, what with the new year theme and all, and dear God is that a scary game. It inspired me to write something horrific and harrowing. Which, it turns out, is really fun to write.

This week's assignment: NEWS THEME! I've been excited about this all quarter and it's finally here.
It was tough to get started ("NO. BAD TROMBONE. STAHP THAT. WHERE ARE MY VIOLAS.") but once I had the piano "dink, dink, dink dinkdink" written, the rest just fell into place.
I have never left out so many 3rds in my life. It feels so wrong. Nearly all the harmonies are open 5ths and 4ths. Sus 4-evah.

My music theory professor pointed something out to me. If I'm in the key of, say, G, I like going back to G again and again throughout the whole song. So my exercise here is all about being in the key of A minor without ever touching the A minor chord except for the very beginning and the very end.
Also, I love softly played strings the way I love cheese. Delicious.

I got too excited writing Baa Baa Black Sheep so I wrote another orchestral piece using a greater extent (and greater weirdness) of my music theory skills.
I clocked the work time to be about 5 hours, so if you think it sounds rushed you are indeed right.

Wooo homework is turned in. The professor gave us a MIDI file with nothing but the melody for Baa Baa Black Sheep and told us to make it sound like an orchestra.
Now this wasn't for my highbrow music theory class, but my everyman-electronic MIDI composition class. However, I went all out with this and I must say, it was CRAZY fun. Work time was roughly 5-6 hours; it just sort of exploded out in a fury.
There will definitely be more things like this in the near-future :D

School project for the week: take this video and make a "John Cage-y" soundtrack for it. Claimed goal: learn to export video from whatever music program you use. My goal: WRITE A THING
My favorite part starts about a minute or so in, so bear with the fwoofiness and weird visuals.
Song is downloadable here.
