This château is worth a visit. Located in the heart of the Graves wine area of Bordeaux. It’s a family owned estate, which has decided to invest in tourism on a family scale. The scenery and position of the Chateau is quite incredible with a beautiful view of the Garonne river. The team are incredibly friendly and the family still live there, so you might get the chance to talk with the owner.
The visit starts with a film about the estate. I’d like to point out that this video is very good, English is perfect, this filmed landscapes are wonderful. The video takes you through the history of the estate from the Roman Empire to the current owners. The estate is well-known in the region because Napoléon and Joséphine made a stop here in 1808. There is a humorous reconstruction of this during the video.
During the visit you also see the Vat room and cellars. Before finishing in their new museum/information centre where you learn about the vines and different stages of growth. There is a touch-screen which explains everything about the wine region and the estate in a modern way.
The visit finishes with a tasting of three wines: 2 reds and 1 white. The great thing about this château is that you leave with your engraved wine glass which is a nice souvenir to show friends at home. There is also a photo-booth where you can take photos. All this is included in the visit price of 12€ per person. Great value.
If you have children no worries as this season they have a treasure hunt for 2€ available in English with a fruit juice and award at the end.
There are other visits possible such as the classic visit of the estate and cellars with a cheese and cold meat platter at 20€ pp. Or accompanied by local savoury dishes at 35€ pp.
Marion is one of the guides of the château who showed me around. She is really friendly speaks English and was born in the wine business so knows what she’s talking about. Being a family owned and family friendly estate the visits aren’t rushed. They want you to have a good time and remember your visit.
There is also a shop, were you can buy wine (of coarse) but also local produce such as jam and paté but also wine accessories. Great for presents to take back home.

For many years I’ve heard of this restaurant but never had the occasion to eat there. So I decided to change this and give them a call to reserve.
La Tupina is one of the most well-known in the city where French presidents have eaten, the major Alain Juppé often eats and the famous chef Rick Stein (lives in my home region of Cornwall) recommends it.
The restaurant is tucked away on a small street behind one of the four city doors of Bordeaux “Porte de la Monnaie”. When you walk inside it’s like you’ve walked in a time machine. The restaurant is decorated in an old bistro, grandmothers, and hunter’s kitchen style. You can’t miss the imposing fireplace where the meat is cooked and a beautiful selection of herbs, meats and veg are presented. I’d recommend you reserve as it was rather busy when I went. After being seated by very welcoming waiters, a plate of radishes, cauliflower and paté was served. I decided to go with the fixed menu at 74€ starter, main, dessert with three glasses of wine included. For starters you could choose from: Duck liver paté or Scallops with roasted Jerusalem artichoke and black truffle. For mains there was either: Zander fillet and seasonal vegetables or a confit goose wing with Sarladaises potatoes. For desserts you could have: Red fruit sorbet or the local Cannelé and ice cream. The idea of having three glasses of wine with the menu is great as you can do a mix. For example drink a white, a red and with the dessert a sweet white. Don’t expect modern cuisine, this goes back to basics, with a warm feeling, fresh high-quality produce and good sized servings. To be honest I couldn’t have eaten a thing more when I left, I was full, and that’s quite difficult as I love to eat French regional food. For more information go to their website: www.latupina.com

Last night at the debate about sweet wines with interesting guests: - Caroline Furstoss (head sommelier of one of France's top chefs Francois Piege) - Alexandre de Lur Saluces the owner of Chateau de Fargues and ancient administrator of Chateau d'Yquem - Patrick Baudouin wine-maker in Anjou - Jacques Glenat the director of Glenat editions - Jean Marc Grussaute wine-maker in Jurancon. The debate was: Do we still drink sweet wines at Christmas? So what do you instagramers and wine lovers think about this question? 🍇🍇 #questionoftheday #debate #sweetwine #winelovers🍷 #frenchwine #wine #conference #citeduvin #sommelier #oenotourisme #oenophile #chateaudyquem #sauternes #bordeaux #igerseurope #winewednesday #winetime #carolinefurstoss #luxurywine #winelist #discover #traveladdict #culture #wine #jurancon #tokaj #eiswein #icewine (à La Cité du Vin)
