(Lmao I suck at hiatus)

Rick slammed down his fifth shot of Rubinoff. Why was he drinking Rubi you ask? He found it near a college dorm, unopened, beckoning for him. He answered the call.

It burned. 

Oh boy did it burn.

The loneliness. The anxiety. The guilt. The pain. The thoughts. Burned.

But that’s just the alcohol, right?

He takes a sharp inhale after the burn travels down his esophagus, face scrunching at the low-quality grain alcohol. He hasn’t drunk in a while. The 10-month sobriety chip he uses as a coaster stares at him as a reminder that he’s a failure. As a father, a friend, a lover, a caretaker. Failure. 

He spins his body on the couch so that he’s lengthwise with it, ready to lay down. His eyes struggle to stay open, the length of the week wearing down on him. He runs a calloused hand through his wiry blue locks as he lays prone. Rick throws his arms behind him and stretches. 

Longer. Longer. Longer.

Pops and cracks fill the room, his lower back and knees the cause of the chorus. Soon his vision fills with stars, indicating that he’s probably stretched enough. He lowers his arms and relaxes his legs, both plopping onto the couch in a relaxed heap. Rick stares up at the ceiling, his gaze intensifying.

How could the smartest man in the universe make such a dumb fucking mistake? 

He gets an oh so familiar pang in his chest with the revival of that thought. His muscles tense.

“Fuck.”
