Headcanon #5

Tails' first inventions were made from Badnik's parts left over from the battle. So, they were usually red/gray.

When Sonic and Tails got some paint and a place to store Tails' inventions, he started painting them yellow to hide Robotnik's original color.

And when he was finally able to buy the parts, he started buying them all in yellow, or always painting them yellow, but now, to declare the inventions as his.
