Obi-Wan can't seem to quite recall when he started to fall in love with you.

It was a slow, fickle thing. He knew the slow and simple melody that crooned in his chest like a second heartbeat, melancholic yet marching on all the same. A duo of a warm and harmonic cello and the delicate twinkling of piano keys, chords twirling sluggish and content. He knew those notes, and they were familar in their simplicity. A duo was fairly common for those with "soul songs". Occasionally, there was a trio, or the rare quad or penta. Sometimes, there was also the unfortunate solo.

You were a senator, a diplomatic politician who seemed determined to catch his eye, intentionally or not. You were beautiful, with sharp and intelligent eyes that held a sense of mischievousness whenever the two of you spoke, with skin that seemed to glow in the nearby sun of Coruscant. The way you carried yourself was gentle yet confident, unyielding with separatist representatives, but soft and maternal with children of the crèche, the one time that you were permitted to visit. He can still remember the high and delighted giggles of the younglings, several of them crowding around you to fiddle with the intricate jewelry adorning your wrists, arms, ears and neck. The colorful and regal gowns you'd choose swaying with each movement. You looked breathtaking and devastating, and the cello in his chest played off tune, a sharp note echoing a sound only he could hear.

You were magnetic and overwhelming, calming and defiant, too. And Obi-Wan loved you in a way that a Jedi shouldn't, and it felt like he was in the tide, and a wave was crashing over his head, with no hope of him coming back up for air. He wanted to drown in you, and it was slowly killing him.

He had just finished debriefing through holocall with his captain of the 212th and was in the temple, preparing to report to the council when he'd noticed the faster hum in his chest, the slow croon of the cello in his chest picking up slightly in speed, the music shifting to something sweet, melody soft and mesmerizing, even to his own ears. He paused and pressed a hand to his chest, rubbing at his sternum as he leaned against the table in his quarters.

Slowly, as the cello and piano in his chest marched on in their simple melody, the piano grew louder and devastating, chords shifting to a soft and yearning A Major, clenching his soul in a way that felt too similar to swallowing a knot in your throat whilst on the verge of tears. Then, slowly, gentle as sunlight peeking through stormy clouds, other instruments begin to join the fray stored away behind his sternum.

The symphony of cello and violin strings with the soft lull of piano chords growing sweeter in their closeness, low notes curling tenderly around his heartstrings at each brush of their hands. Distantly, the delicate plucking of a harp slowly joins the orchestra that seems to be echoing in Obi-Wan's chest.

It was then, Obi-Wan knew, that he was doomed.
