Aliens were really, hostile, and invading Earth, but nothing related to that was trending on Tumblr because some big fandom stuff had also happened.

He turns the stone in his fingers, once, twice, three times-
“Hello?”
This time, Regulus just manages to keep ahold of the stone as he whips his head up, flinching back in surprise. What he sees, though, sends him scrambling till his back is pressed up against the wall of the tower. “What the fuck,” he hisses.
The man, shimmery and slightly translucent, stares at him with a similar expression of pure shock.
“What am I doing here?” he whispers.
Regulus can’t speak, can’t think, the blood he’s never fully managed to scrub off his hands suddenly burning, consuming him entirely. Everything in him shudders. “Harold?”

Jegulus Apollo/Hyacinthus Au
“Why are you here?”
“Must you ask me the same question every five sentences?”
Regulus holds his gaze. “It’s the first time today. And I still haven’t gotten a satisfactory answer.”
James runs a hand through his curls. “I like the way you look.”
Something inside Regulus shrivels and curls into itself, making his skin crawl with a horribly familiar feeling. Of course.
Of fucking course.
The warmth from before melts away into disgust and fear, twisting his stomach into knots.
“Oh,” he says, very aware of how cold his voice has gotten. “Many do.”
James blinks at him, evidently confused, before his eyes flash with realization. “No! No. Not like that. Not the way you look. Though, I have to say— but no. That’s not what I mean. I should’ve phrased it better. For the god of song, you'd think— never mind. I like the way you look at things. The way you see the world. The things you choose to look at. The way you look.”
Regulus eyes him warily. “What?”
“You look at everyone like you can see straight through them. Like you already know their nature, already know exactly what to expect from them. You set yourself rules for different people and different things, and once you sort everyone into the box you assign them they can never get out.” He pauses, humming gently. “You come with many preconceived notions, Regulus Black. About me, about everyone. No one can escape them.” He grins. “I want to be the first.”
Regulus stares at him. “You see me as a challenge?”
“Not a challenge,” James says slowly. “A game. A lovely, wonderful, sullen game.”
“Is that so.”
“Mhm. Want to know something else?”
“What’s that?”
James smiles, as sharp and warm as the sun. “I intend to win.”

Jegulus as Hyacinth and Apollo AU (with Barty staring as Zephyrus)
“There,” Barty whispers, pointing at a brown bird sitting on a lower branch of a tree.
Regulus nods, silently lifting his bow and closing one eye, taking aim. When he’s sure he’s found his mark he releases the string, watching the arrow cut through the air. At the last minute it veers a hard left, hitting the trunk and startling the bird into flight. Barty cackles next to him, lowering his hand.
Regulus drops his bow and shoves him, pushing away his smile. “You idiot! I was going to make it!”
“Seemed to me like a pretty bad shot,” Barty laughs as he stumbles back.
“You turned my arrow!” Regulus pushes him again and this time Barty grabs his arm, pulling him backwards with him. Regulus lets out a light shout and then they both go down, landing in a heap on the forest floor. Barty laughs, and Regulus, pushing himself up slightly above him, can’t help but join in after a moment.
Through their laughter he can feel Barty’s heated gaze on him, sending shivers down his back and a small drip of light dread into his stomach.
He knows what Barty wants from him.
What he’s always wanted from him.
He’s just grateful he’s never tried to take it.
Regulus pushes off him a second later, sitting up on the moss and wiping the leaves from his tunic, still smiling. “Can I—”
Barty jolts up suddenly, leaping to his feet and cutting off the rest of Regulus’s sentence. His expression, no longer playful, turns dangerous as he glances around.
“Barty?” Regulus asks, getting to his feet slowly. “What is it?”
“I—” Barty looks around again, spinning a full circle while staying rooted to the spot. “I need to—”
And then he turns and disappears, a sharp warm wind taking his place before that vanishes as well, shooting off through the trees.
Regulus stares after him, reaching for his bow. Barty never did that, never left with no warning. Plus, that expression on his face. He looked… scared.
And what could possibly scare a god?
Regulus lifts the bow carefully, looking around. There’s a crunch in the underbrush and instantly Regulus has an arrow notched and aimed at the spot, ready to fire. “Who’s there?” He calls, hating the hint of fear in his voice.
There’s no response, just the birds in the trees.
Then the birds stop too.
The bush rustles again, and Regulus lets the arrow fly.
Just as his fingers leave the string someone steps out of the trees, hand snapping up to close around the arrow right before it strikes him in the chest. He’s slightly taller than Regulus, with dark curls and bronzed skin. A halo of sunlight circles his head, glowing bright for a moment before dissipating. He’s wearing a tunic made of white cloth, a quiver of golden arrows slung over his back and a bow held firmly in his other hand. A lyre is attached to his hip. Warm golden brown eyes set into a face that adorns thousands of temples and shrines flick up to meet Regulus’s, filled with jovial warmth.
“Trying to kill me already, love?”
Regulus takes a step back. Then another.
Because that’s James.
The sun god.
And he just caught the arrow Regulus aimed for his heart.

Jegulus Apollo and Hyacinthus AU
“I have a friend who reminds me of you,” James says. “He’s also incredibly stubborn. Is that a mortal trait, then?”
The boy blinks at him, tunic fluttering in the breeze lightly. “You have a mortal friend?”
“What, is that so hard to believe?” James takes a step closer, silently celebrating when the boy doesn’t move away.
“I thought Gods didn’t interact with mortals unless they want to kill them, use them, or fuck them.”
James grimaces at the expression on the boy's face, the hard anger and rigidity that only comes with years of distrust. “Zeus, maybe. Not me. I’m not like that.” He tips his head as something occurs to him. “Isn’t Barty your friend? He’s a god.” Not one James is personally fond of, but their paths don’t often cross so, really, it’s no skin off his back.
The boy’s expression doesn’t change. He presses his lips into a thin line, saying nothing.
Oh.
James narrows his eyes, a hot flash of anger ripping through him. “Did he- has he done something?”
The boy sighs, shaking his head and rubbing his eyes. “No. He wouldn’t. He’s not that type.”
“So, you just don’t trust me, then.”
“I just met you.”
“And yet we’re getting along so well!”
The boy scowls at him. “I’ll shoot you again.”
“That is so incredibly blasphemous.” James spreads his arms again, spinning in a little circle. “See? I look mortal. Just pretend I’m… like… one of the townspeople. A schoolboy friend, maybe.”
The boy frowns slightly. “I had a tutor.”
Sometimes James forgets he’s a prince. “Right. Ok. A common citizen, then.”
The boy gives him a dry look.
“What?”
“You’re literally glowing, James.”
“I-” James looks down at himself, noticing for the first time the slight warm light illuminating his skin. It’s very faint, but definitely there. “Ah.” He says slowly. “Right. Sirius never mentioned that.”

Very excited about this new project!!
