There’s another awkward silence, stretching on until Remus thinks he might just have to kill himself. Sirius is the first to break it, thankfully. “I’m sorry.” He repeats, like there’s nothing else to say. Maybe there isn’t. It makes no difference- Remus wants to tear the words from his throat anyway.  

“Not enough.”

“I’ll eat.”

Remus scoffs, turning on his heels. “I hope you choke.”

Sirius' patronus is a small, slender cat. It's fussy and pretends to scratch him every so often. The cat looks like it's partway between being a kitten and a fully grown cat. Sirius will never know that his patronus has a counterpart.

Sirius called Walburga many things, not in a way that anyone would notice, but there are differences.

Everyone knew that’s Sirius’ mother. “My mother…” he would say.

The Marauders (and close friends) knew her as his mum. “Mum says…” he would say.

But Regulus heard him call her something different. Lying on the cold floor below his mother, her wand pointed at him, Sirius called out something else. As Walburga shouted Crucio, Sirius let out a pained mama. “Mama please…” he would say.

And Regulus just stood there, hearing his big brother scream, knowing he couldn’t do a thing to stop it.

no ok dont get me wrong i do love feminine short sirius black but. did we forget that sirius is canonically the tallest marauder. like obviously fuck jkr so canon is less important but also where are the fics where he towers over everyone. mr. flair for the dramatics would Love it. here are my contributions:

sirius will walk up to remus and just plant his face in his hair. when remus asks what hes doing he goes "mind your business" and walks away after a few minutes. the smell calms him and his hair is so soft that sirius cant help it

constantly makes fun of james for being oh so short despite the fact that the difference is like. an inch

despite being the tallest marauder, he can Always find and squeeze into the smallest hiding spaces when theyre pulling pranks, and the rest of them just cant figure out how he does it

until he makes an offhand comment about how he had to teach reggie how to hide so he could go and distract walburga, so reggie wouldnt get hurt when she was in one of her Moods

while im at it, sirius is taller than walburga by a lot, so looking at them next to each other, people find it harder to believe she could ever Really hurt him because after all, "youre so much bigger than she is, cant you just fight back or run away?"

When Regulus was little, Bellatrix crucio’d him once for fun. Sirius was livid. Regulus ended up with a stutter because of the nerve damage. Sirius vowed that he wouldn’t let it happen again, and he made it a habit to divert attention from Regulus and take his punishments for him. Walburga hated the stutter (“a Black should speak with proper eloquence”) and it was trained out of him (for the most part) within a couple of years.

Sirius ran away to the Potters’ and didn’t speak with his brother at all when they went back to school. Every time he tried, Regulus gave him the silent treatment. James, with his savior complex, tried to bridge the gap between the brothers, hoping that Regulus would come stay with them as well. The conversation was short, mostly one-sided. James hadn’t spoken to Regulus much before, but when he had, he was always met with smooth speech and a sharp tongue.

So when James returns to the dorms to a pacing Sirius, who asks him,

“Well? How did it go?”

James hesitates. He has to ask.

“… Strange. Has he always had a stutter?”

Sirius goes very pale.
