iconic things suzanne collins did in sunrise on the reaping:
had haymitch declare himself an lgbt+ ally
confirmed snow is still habitually crashing out over lucy gray 40 years later
made me cry over the regina george of district 12

I wish Maysilee Donner would've met President Snow. He wouldve said some corny shit like "Snow lands on top" and she would've eaten the words and chewed them right back up so nasty that he would've been so ashamed to say them ever again.

ahhh thank you for the compliments, this is my first proper detailed analysis so it means a lot!!
i think piper is a difficult character to write as i feel rick had all the right ideas but didn’t execute them well so i think that it would be nice to see her older self explain her struggles with self worth when she was on the argo and how she is still trying to find out who she is as a person away from just her physical appearance, which could be explored through maybe her previously trying to change her appearance in drastic or dangerous ways before she realised she was not gaining anything from it apart from harming herself in the process.
i also would like to think that an older piper would be less attached to her partner and focus more on herself and i see her maybe having hobbies such as yoga or mindfulness as it helps her relax when she gets overwhelmed with the feeling of she’s not “good enough”.
i do think that along the line she would’ve struggled with mental health issues relating to her not feeling “good enough” which would’ve been extremely heightened due to jason’s passing so her recovery and growth could also be explored.
lastly, i also think piper is a rare opportunity to maybe explore a character who didn’t really want to “save the world” or be a “hero” at such a young age. i feel like through HoO piper comes across as just wanting to be normal and live a normal teenagers life. before mark of athena and when the seven set off, she’s one of two characters (her and leo) who haven’t been in the demigod world for long so when suddenly she’s told she has to save the world at fifteen ,it makes the demigod world a lot less appealing to her than the other demigods such as percy and annabeth who have been there longer and find camp halfblood more of a home opposed to piper, who was literally bullied by her own cabin mates, so she might not of found it as nice so i imagine an older piper might be a little more detached to the demigods world and although she does spend time there, she does also like to spend time in the real world.
i hope this is okay, let me know if you want any more ideas…and let me know when the fic is out i would love to read it!!!
the piper mclean writing issue and her representation in the pjo fandom
no cus let’s genuinely talk about it.
scrolling through tiktok and i come across a heroes of olympus ranking video about HoO couples. guess whose at the bottom? piper and jason. came across another ranking video but this time it’s book ranking, guess which is at the bottom? lost hero. came across ANOTHER but this time it’s characters, guess whose at the bottom? PIPER. MCLEAN. there seems to be a recurring theme of putting piper mclean last and it makes me wonder how the fandom views her as a character.
from what i gather ( from the ranking videos and comments) she’s viewed as weak, boring and also clingy. and i think the root of the issue is that i don’t think rick riordan is that great at writing a character aimed towards more “girly girls” (i don’t know how to describe the demographic lol). for example: rick did a good job writing annabeth however she is portrayed as more of a sporty girl who never cared about her appearance too much because she was always busy with training etc (queen) so she was never really targeted towards the “girly girls” which is fine, i think the books are for a mixed audience but naturally it’s probably more aimed to boys, so this makes sense fro rick to write annabeth that way. but i think as the fandom grew rick needed to include more characters aimed to different parts of the fandom which is why we had the seven. nothing against rick i can understand he would find writing boys easier as i imagine it’s easier to write about your own gender (i’m not a writer so just i’m just assuming) but i forever wish piper was just written even a little better.
i believe she was supposed to be portrayed as an extremely pretty girl who struggles with insecurity and self worth and i think rick could’ve really explored her pretty privilege and how she doesn’t like being given stuff just because she has a pretty face. obviously with HoO being a book with seven main characters there’s always gonna be a few less developed characters, but i just think rick got a little lazy with her character in particular especially in blood of olympus because even as a piper fan myself i can admit her povs were in fact, just boring.
i do think rick should’ve explored her power more because sadly being on a ship with: a son of poseidon who can literally conjure earthquakes and command the sea AND a son of zeus who can fly and create storms AND a child of hades who can control the mist AND a shapshifter AND someone who can summon fire she’s already forced onto the back foot along with annabeth. however the difference between them is annabeth already haa character depth/development due to the pjo series beforehand. not only that but annabeth even proves, throughout the series, that she is still very strong and of equal power to the others despite not having a specific power which i’m not sure we see in the same way from piper even tho she literally DOES have a power, but i just don’t think it’s ever explored enough to make us feel like it’s at equals with percy or jason or even franks abilities. and i think that is the root of a big problem, the fact that in reality, pipers charmspeak just cannot match up (or isn’t written to be able to match up) against the other demigods. obviously having three children of the big three already calls for a strong disconnect but i think rick does quite a good job of matching up leo, frank and even annabeth up to percy, hazel and jason’s abilities but i think it failed a little with piper as it just feels like such a strong difference between her abilities and the others while reading despite the fact i do think charmspeak is incredibly powerful, it just isn’t portrayed as incredibly powerful during her povs or anyone else’s unfortunately so it makes her seem weak.
theoretically, if anything the dynamic of the fandom opinions on the seven should lean more towards annabeth actually being the weakest of the seven (not true obviously) but if we’re ranking by abilities, theoretically she should be at the bottom but instead it always seems to be piper. and i wonder why? and i think it’s because although piper does have a charmspeak ability, we learn throughout the books she doesn’t actually LIKE to use it because again she opposes the idea of being handed things without having to actually work for it which could’ve been explored more as i think it could’ve been interesting to understand why someone who literally has magical powers wouldn’t want to use them, especially something so powerful and flexible as charmspeak is as it could be used in the real world as well and learning about why she doesn’t like to use it could’ve added more depth to her character also.
but instead i think it just tends to come off to readers as her just being annoying, difficult and little useless. even if you remove the ranking by powers and just rank normally, unfortunately she still ends up at the bottom because again, for example, annabeth has proven her strength so many time through strategy, combat and intuition in multiple battles throughout the series, whereas pipers strength tends to rely on her charmspeak which she barely uses and her dagger, both of which can only really be used in close combat making her seem a little useless if the enemy isn’t right in front of her.
piper deserved so much more than what we were given in heroes of olympus and although i understand where the fandom is coming from- some povs were boring and the way she’s written makes it very hard to recognise she’s so much more than how she is initially presented and i obviously understand the book is directed towards a younger audience i feel like she was done so dirty and i wish the fandom realised she’s so much more than just a “weak” “annoying” character because she IS so much more than that.
thanks for listening to my ted talk lol <3

sadly i’m lazy and a terrible writer so the task is a bit out of reach 💔😔
sometimes i do wish that heroes of olympus was a YA book so the drama that could’ve happened would’ve been truly messy

tell me your thoughts about lemonade mouth like your favorite character and moments and ship and whatever
i love this question so muchhh!!! i’m gonna go off the movies because i am yet to read the books sadly :(
my favourite character is mo because i like her storyline about family expectations and i honestly really like olivia as well i loved seeing her character development. top 3 moments have got to be the first meeting because like LEMONADE MOUTH IS CREATED??, i do really like the holding cell scene because i love a bit of drama and i gotta say the halloween bash/determinate song is definitely up there. right, in terms of ships at first i really shipped mo and charlie and wanted them to have gotten together but then i rewatched it and i kinda like her with scott as well i feel like charlie needed to learn how to be himself before he got into a relationship maybe…but they deffo missed a chance to do popular girl/loser boy trope which i think would’ve been cool considering they made charlie seem as though he liked her throughout literally half the movie?? anyways i loveee olivia and wen probably my fav ship honestly (the cat at the end aww).also i don’t know if this is controversial but i didn’t really like the fact that scott joined the band in the end, it felt a bit intrusive to the original members. i’m also not the biggest fan of stella but hopefully that’ll change once i read the books :) it is a killer movie and does deserve more hype than it gets but yes i hope you are satisfied with my long ass answer and thank you for the question :))

never really deeped it but i guess ‘real or not real’ is a lot more than just peeta trying to untangle his thoughts/ his mind after his hijacking, maybe it was a representation of everlarks whole relationship. how after the first games katniss revealed that she was ‘pretending’ for the games and she didn’t really know if her feelings were actually there. so this would’ve probably meant that peeta viewed everything that happened in the first games as fake so therefore he was probably very wary about all of katniss’s actions throughout the victory tour and quarter quell so in a way him asking if things are real or not real is their way of confirming what pieces of their relationship the capitol forced them to have and what pieces were genuinely real to both of them throughout.

i think this scene epitomises katniss’s full feelings for peeta in the movies because she looks exactly like her mum when her dad died. especially afterwards when plutarch was explaining peeta’s hijacking, she looked dead inside and mirrored her mum completely, who throughout the series katniss refers to as “useless” after her dad died and she despises that her mum ended up how she did. but this scene shows how katniss is finally understanding her mum because she’s found someone she loves just as much maybe more than her mum loved her dad and that scares her because she viewed what her mum and dad had as “real love” and it ended with her mum struggling BADLY and she’s afraid that she’ll turn out like her now. after everything that happened to peeta she’s genuinely terrified she’ll be just like her mum - the one person she really didn’t want to turn out to be and that’s probably why she’s so scared of the idea of love and even more scared of the idea that she loves someone as much as her mum loved her dad as she know that their love was (in her eyes) the truest, realest form of love she had ever been exposed to so katniss would be inclined to think what her mum went through was the universal experience of what the after effects of love can do. and that’s what makes everlark so beautiful the way peeta opens up a new form of love for her she never knew existed TWICE.
