the hero in Max Fry's books is like a typical Russian.
1. the attitude to things is “optimistic indifference”.
Russian people are mostly mannered so that any life mischief can be brought out by fun, alcohol or the typical “fck it all”.
The protagonist Sir Max in the fantastic Echo Labyrinths series copes with death, parting and ordinary longing quietly and loudly saying “Hello, my painfully familiar rake, I haven’t stepped on you for a long time.”
2. the world is built on self-love
My favorite quote from Sir Max is “You have to love and praise yourself. Do not entrust such a responsible matter to strangers!” In our basic essence, we need only ourselves, we move forward and are responsible only for ourselves.
3. “you can’t imagine what a person is capable of who has finally realized that he has no other choice .”
