I just saw someone who works in healthcare bring up the fact that his mother was a known drug addict and most likely didn't stop using while pregnant which would have caused complications like both twins being born incredibly early leading to health problems and very little parents who are adopting want to adopt a baby who isn't healthy. Then of course you have to foster before adopting most of the time, so by the time Andrew would be considered healthy enough to want he'd probably be too old to be wanted. Them of course the trauma the foster system causes that will show up even in a toddler. Then we know he was assaulted at 7 years old and we know sometime after that he started acting out meaning Andrew who already was introverted and a little standoffish as a kid started getting labeled as a problem child, and most parents looking to adopt don't want a little boy who's acting out.

Also his foster mother, the "Spear" one (I forgot her first name) was stated to be good and love Andrew, it's also implied Andrew loved her too. That along with the fact that Drake most likely threatened Andrew so he would keep quiet about the abuse which was happening to him, Andrew probably was on his best behavior when his social worker came around so he could stay with a mom who actually wanted him.

Andrew only acted out badly enough to get sent to juvi once Aaron contacted him and Drake said that he wanted both twins in his bed. Andrew only acted out badly enough to protect his brother and then he was a foster kid in a juvenile detention center while having an attitude (It likely formed to keep people at an arms distance so he didn't get attached and hurt or taken from someone he cares about again) which makes him very undisarable to any foster parents that would have taken him in.

Plus we know Drake was going into the military so the system would likely not believe Andrew because why would Drake Spear a new solider and upstanding citizen rape a child? And when Andrew told his uncle, the uncle said it was a "misunderstanding"

One thing I don’t understand in AFTG: how come Andrew was never adopted?

Listen, I’m not American and I won’t pretend to fully understand how the American adoption system works, but I think it’s pretty universal that newborn babies are the most sought after, and that race and health are also big factors.

So how come Andrew, a newborn, white and healthy baby didn’t get adopted? That doesn’t really make sense to me, but again I don’t really know how the system works. Was it just for the plot? Or could there be another reasonable explanation?
